Opis:
The flame sprayed coatings are characterized by porosity, oxide inclusions presence and large real area of surface. In order to obtain adequate surface roughness coatings must be applied finishing. For this purpose, the turning and grinding are used. In the paper a burnishing to finishing flame sprayed coatings was proposed. Burnishing is not used during the processing of thermally sprayed coatings, as is commonly believed that this technology causes damage to coatings. The process of flame sprayed is a technology affordable and easy to implement. It does not require great skill of the operator. This method is not associated with expensive workstation equipment. It may therefore be used with success for the regeneration of machine parts by the crew of vessel engine room. Coatings of Ni-5% Al and Ni-5%Al-15%Al2O3 obtained by powder flame spraying were studied. Torch of "Casto-Dyn 8000" was used. After turning the average value of surface coatings roughness coefficient Ra =2.59 mi m (for Ni- 5%Al) mi m and Ra = 3.1mi m (for composite coating) was obtained. SRMD burnishing tool produced by "Yamato" company was used. Roller burnishing was performer on turning lathe. It was found that the increase in burnishing force and the reduction of burnishing speed and feed rate of less roughness of coatings are obtained. For Ni-5%Al coatings the lowest surface roughness, Ra = 0.3mi m was obtained after burnishing with the following parameters: the force - 1100 N, burnishing speed - 28m/min, feed - 0.08 mm/rev. During burnishing of Ni-5% Al-15% Al2O3 coatings applied force 700 N, Ra = 1.31 mi m was obtained. Greater burnishing force caused coatings damage. Burnishing compared to turning has positive influence on the curve shape of the material ratio. It was found that the parameters Rk and Rpk were reduced.

Opis:
Ni-Al-Cr system is significant for industrial alloys based on intermetallic phase Ni3Al, that crystallizes in crystal lattice L12. It is indicated as γ′, contrary to disordered phase γ which occurs with addition of chromium. DSC analysis was performed on alloys of chemical composition from Ni75Al25÷Ni75Cr25 range of Ni-rich part of Ni-Al-Cr system. In addition, few measurements were conducted using DTA method. Based on curves registered, it was possible to identify characteristic temperature during heating and cooling of the sample. It corresponds to existence of phase boundary γ′+γ / γ in examined alloys. Results of thermal analysis were compared with results obtained with other method performed by authors which is solution calorimetric method.

Opis:
Mechanical properties at elevated temperature, in modern alloys based on intermetallic phase Ni3Al are connected with phase composition, especially with proportion of ordered phase γ′ (L12) and disordered phase γ (A1). In this paper, analysis of one key systems for mentioned alloys - Ni-Al-Cr, is presented. A series of alloys with chemical composition originated from Ni-rich part of Ni-Al-Cr system was prepared. DTA thermal analysis was performed on all samples. Based on shape of obtained curves, characteristic for continuous order-disorder transition, places of course of phase boundaries γ′+γ / γ were determined. Moreover, temperature of melting and freezing of alloys were obtained. Results of DTA analysis concerning phase boundary γ′+γ / γ indicated agreement with results obtained by authors using calorimetric solution method.

Opis:
The morphology of interlayars and the coating of Fe-Al phase detonation sprayed (DGS) on the substrate of 045 steel was analysed in the work. The Ni(Al) layer, first from the substrate side consisted of Ni with inclusions of Al oxide. The second deposited layer was Ni(Cr), which contained lamellas of Cr in the Ni matrix. The phases present in the transition layers and in the coating were identified with SEM, and EDX methods (linear and point changes of chemical composition). The identification was confirmed with the X-ray technique and TEM microstructure analysis. It was established that Al oxides and AlNiO phases appeared in the DGS process after partial melting and oxidation of Al particles, while in the not melted part of grains small grain morphology was observed. Using the X-ray method, the FeAl2O4, Fe3Al and FeAl phases were identified in the coating, the Cr and Cr2Ni3 phase in the Ni(Cr) interlayer as well as pure nickel and the NiAl phase in the Ni(Al) interlayer. The occurrence of brittle phases of Al oxide and AlNiO phases near the boundaries of layers might result in the increase of tendency to delamination. Hence the reduction of the Al content seems advantageous from the point of view of mechanical properties of the joint.
W pracy poddano analizie metodą skaningowej - SEM i transmisyjnej- TEM mikroskopii elektronowej, budowę warstw pośrednich i powłokę faz typu Fe-Al natryskiwanych detonacyjnie (DGS) na podłoże stali 045. W powłoce zidentyfikowano metodą X-ray fazy: FeAl2O4, Fe3Al oraz FeAl, w warstwie pośredniej Ni(Cr) - chrom i fazę Cr2Ni3w osnowie niklu, zaś w warstwie Ni(Al) czysty nikiel i fazę NiAl. Występowanie faz tlenku glinu i faz AlNiO w pobliżu granic warstw pośrednich powodować może zwiększenie tendencji do delaminacji. Korzystnym byłoby zatem obniżenie ilości aluminium.

Opis:
Thermal analysis allows for determination of temperature specific for the beginning and the end of phase transitions occurring in studied samples. In this paper results obtained from DTA (Differential Thermal Analysis) of alloys of chemical composition referring to nickel-rich part of Ni-Al-Cr system, specifically from section Ni75Al25÷Ni65Cr35 are presented. Those alloys are based on intermetallic phase Ni3 Al. Referring to measurements obtained during heating and cooling, characteristic peaks related to occurrence of phase transition of order-disorder type were noted as well as melting and solidification temperature of alloys was determined. Results of thermal analysis DTA of studied range were compared with results obtained for section Ni75Al25÷Ni75Cr25 and Ni75Al25÷Ni87Cr13, additionally results of measurements performed on high-temperature solution calorimeter were collated. Both methods presented good compatibility.

The purpose of this study was the selection of roller- burnishing parameters of surface Ni-Al coatings obtained by "PN 120" plasma torch. Coatings with low surface roughness could be applied as layers increase the service life of torque pumps shaft used on vessels in the sea water systems. After turning, the average surface roughness of plasma sprayed Ni-5% Al coatings was Ra = 0.77 mi m. Their average hardness was equal to the 253 HV 2. It was comparable to the hardness of flame sprayed Ni-Al coatings after the burnishing. Before machining, plasma sprayed alloy coatings were characterized by hardness 206 HV 2. After pre-treatment, plasma sprayed Ni-Al coatings were burnishing. Burnishing parameters were as follows: Vn=28.26 m/min, Fn=1100N, fn=0,08m/rev. Burnishing reduces the surface roughness of coatings as compared to machining. The arithmetical mean deviation of the assessed profile of machined coatings was 0.78 mi m. After the plastic working, the Ra parameter was reduced to a value of 0.28 mi m. Total height of profile of machined coatings was only 2.63 mim. After burnishing, the value of Wt decreased by 0.16 mi m, to the value of 2.47 mi m. Studies burnished surface topography of coatings of Ni-5% Al overlaid by "PN 120" torch revealed the presence of defects stereometric structure. There is the folding. These folding are arranged in the direction of peripheral velocity vector. The observed high folding on the surface of alloy coatings sprayed by plasmatron were lower from the same geometric structure defects on the surface of coatings obtained by flame spraying methods. This follows from the fact that the plasma coating, after turning, characterized by higher hardness of the sprayed coating obtained by and "Roto-Teck 80" method. Thus, exhibit a lower propensity for plastic deformation. After plastic working of plasma coatings, decrease of parameters of the material ratio curve values were observed. For example, the reduced peak height of cut coatings were 1.38 mi m, after burnishing Rpk value fell to 0.23 mi m.

Opis:
The study presents investigations of an influence of various direct current densities on microstructure, residual stresses, texture, microhardness and corrosion resistance of the nickel coatings electrodeposited from modified Watt’s baths. The properties of obtained coatings were compared to the nano-crystalline composite Ni/Al2O3 coatings prepared under the same plating conditions. The similarities and differences of the obtained coatings microstructures visible on both their surfaces and cross sections and determined properties were presented. The differences in the growth character of the Ni matrix and in the microstructural properties were observed. All electrodeposited Ni and Ni/Al2O3 coatings were compact and well adhering to the steel substrates. The thickness and the microhardness of the Ni and Ni/Al2O3 deposits increased significantly with the current density in the range 2 - 6 A/dm2. Residual stresses are tensile and they reduced as the current density increased. The composite coatings revealed better protection from the corrosion of steel substrate than pure nickel in solution 1 M NaCl.

In this study, Ni, Ni-SiC and Ni-Al2O3 coatings were electroplated on the 2xxx series aluminium alloy. The following parameters of the electroplating process were applied: current density - 4A/dm2, time - 60 minutes, and temperature - 60°C. Hard particles of submicrometric size were used. The results of the research showing the effect of the addition of hard particles (introduced into the nickel bath as a dispersed phase) on the properties of coatings, including the effect of the type (SiC or Al2O3) and content (0, 25, 50 g / l) of these particles, were discussed. Based on extensive investigations, it was found that the type of ceramic particles significantly affects the structure of produced coatings. The dispersed particles incorporated into the nickel coatings improve their abrasion resistance. Improving of the corrosion properties were observed only in the case of coatings containing silicon carbide particles.

Opis:
In order to investigate the correlation between the reactivity of Ni-Al and micro-structural differences in the crater walls, penetration experiments were performed with Ni-Al and pure Cu shaped charge liners (SCLs). The experimental results showed that the average penetration depth of Cu jets is 2.3 times that of Ni-Al jets, but the crater entrance diameter of Ni-Al jets is larger by 26.6%. The microstructure of the recovered targets was characterized using optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, energy dispersive spectroscopy, and a Vickers micro-hardness system. The Ni-Al “white” band was thicker than that of Cu because it releases a lot of heat. The micro-hardness test showed that the “white” band had a relatively high hardness, and the “white” band hardness in the tail was more significant than that in the head. However, the micro-structural evolution of the crater walls is related to the reactivity of Ni-Al, but is also related to other factors. Combined with the macro penetration results and the evolution of the micro-structure of the crater walls, the “white” band can absorb impact energy more strongly and weaken the jet breaking ability or armour protection ability. These results can provide more valuable reference for designing shaped charge warheads and protection structures.

Opis:
The microstructure of detonation gaseous sprayed (DGS) transition layers of Ni(Al), Ni(Cr) and subsequent coating of Fe-Al intermetallic phases deposited on the 045 steel were studied in the paper using transmission electron microscopy. In order to identify phases in the particular interlayers the selected area electron diffraction (SAED) and an energy dispersive X-ray microanalysis (EDX) were applied. It was found that the Ni(Al) interlayer contained basically pure nickel with a small fraction of NiAl phase. The Al based amorphous phase was also observed its area in the form of bands. The Ni(Cr) interlayer basically contained Ni-rich small grains. Pure chromium in the Ni matrix appeared in the vicinity of Fe-Al coating in the shape of bow-like bands, parallel to the coating. The boundary between the Ni(Cr) layer and the Fe-Al coating revealed abrupt decrease of the Ni content in the coating at simultaneous rapid increase of the Fe amount. Improper Al/Cr ratio within the Ni matrix seems to be responsible for the formation of Al-oxides and the bands of almost pure Cr and Ni(Cr) layers and resulting decrease of interlayer adherence.

Corrosion tests were performed in a 3.5% sodium chloride solution. On the basis of studies, the effect of finishing type on the corrosion properties of flame sprayed coatings has been demonstrated. The lowest corrosion current density was found for Ni-5%Al coatings after burnishing, icorr value equal to 0.76 μA/cm2, and the charge transfer resistance was 31063 Ω/cm2. The lowest resistance to corrosion of grinded Ni-5%Al-Al2O3 composite coatings was observed. These coatings were characterized by the following parameters of corrosion process: icorr = 14.01 μA/cm2, Rct = 3260 Ω/cm2. Burnishing caused increased corrosion resistance of both coatings. Due to reduced roughness and waviness are obtained reduction of the area of the actual burnished coatings compared to turned coatings. Thus, it is resulting in reduced values of corrosion current density. After finishing treatment, the thermally sprayed Ni-5%Al-15%Al2O3 coatings characterized by lower corrosion resistance compared to the alloy coating. The presence of the reinforcing phase in the coating promotes the increase of the porosity. Burnishing does not cause a significant change in porosity of the coating. The flame sprayed coatings on nickel-based have a tendency to localized corrosion in seawater environment.

Opis:
Numerical modelling of hydrogen production by means of methanol decomposition in a thermocatalytic reactor using corrugated foil made of the Ni3Al intermetallic phase is shown in the paper. Experimental results of the flow analysis of mixtures containing helium and methanol in a thermocatalytic reactor with microchannels were used for the initial calibration of the CFD calculations (calculations based on the Computational Fluid Dynamics method). The reaction of the thermocatalytic methanol decomposition was modelled based on experimental data, considering the size of the active surface. The drop in the methanol concentration at the inlet to the reactor, ten millimetres in front of the thermocatalytic region, is associated with the diffusion of streams of other components, mainly hydrogen and carbon monoxide. The commercial CFD code was expanded by User Defined Functions (UDFs) to include surface chemical reaction rates in the interphase between the fluid and the solid. Extrapolation of data by means of the implemented numerical model enabled the assessment of the minimum length of microreactor channels and prediction of the optimal dimension at the system outlet. The results obtained by means of numerical calculations were calibrated and compared with the experimental data, confirming a satisfactory consistency of the data.

Opis:
Alloys based on the Ni3Al intermetallic phase belong to a group of new generation special materials. Their main advantages are resistance to oxidising and carbonising atmospheres, high fatigue strength, high creep resistance, and very high wear and corrosion resistance. This paper presents an analysis of the influence of chemical composition and heat treatment on the structure, thermomechanical strengthening homogeneity, and resistances to erosion wear and cavitation wear of alloys based on Ni3Al intermetallic phase. Investigations of the alloy roughness in the primary stage and after erosion and cavitation wear tests are described. The analysis indicates that erosion and cavitation wear progresses with time and strongly depends on the chemical composition.
