Opis:
From an economic point of view, protected areas do not bring in high profits, in comparison to other possible ways of land usage. National parks and nature reserves are costly in their creation, as well as in their subsequent upkeep and management. In developing countries, their operation can be the source of many political and economic problems. Usually, local communities neighboring protected areas perceive the existence of a protected zone negatively, although they are often able to avail themselves of park resources in various ways. Besides being given the opportunity to rationally make use of certain park resources, community members may be employed as park attendants, which is a practice that is widespread. A part of the profits obtained from the developing tourist industry may be allocated towards local development programs, e.g. the building of a new hospital or school. Some national parks, while lacking the adequate infrastructure necessary for tourism, grapple with a lack of funds. The lack of earning opportunities in connection with the development of tourism results in the local community's over-exploitation of park resources. This often manifests itself in an increased incidence of poaching in the protected area.

Veľká Fatra National Park
Opis:
The present study deals with the evaluation of the management of Veľká Fatra National Park and its comparison with three other selected national parks of the Visegrád Four: Bohemian Switzerland National Park (Czech Republic), Bieszczady National Park (Poland) and the Bükk National Park (Hungary). The information about Veľká Fatra National Park was acquired through a SWOT analysis. The weaknesses and threats found following the SWOT analysis were further evaluated by an analysis of the "force field" and a "problem analysis". The management applied in individual parks was evaluated through the expert system Integrated Protected Area Management (IPAM) with the aim to improve the present management. Another part of the examination is the evaluation of the environmental edification and of the consciousness of students of grammar schools and secondary schools, both in the region where the National Park is located and outside that region. The examination for this study was carried out between 2010-2014. A survey of the environmental consciousness and edification has been implemented in all surveyed countries and the tool of exploratory method was a questionnaire, which was distributed to 1301 respondents. The survey managed to confirm the assumption that in some areas the level of environmental consciousness of the target group is very low. This situation is justified by the fact that schools do not have a precise definition in what form and to what extent attention should be paid to this field. Another reason is the insufficient cooperation between schools and National Parks.   References: Beregszászi, P. (1995). Štúdia k pojmu cestovný ruch orientovaný na životné prostredie. This report presents an assessment of chemical variability in forest ecosystems of three selected national parks in Poland, i.e. Magurski National Park, Świętokrzyski National Park (Holy CrossMts.) andWigierski National Park derived from the calculation of geochemical baselines using a "barbell" cluster and ANOVA design. In addition, results of summary statistics for elemental concentrations and pH in the soil horizons-O (Ol + Ofh), -A and -B (or -E), 1 and 2 year old Pinus sylvestris needles, pine bark and Hypogymnia physodes thalli are given. The variability of elements in soils and plant bioindicators of Wigierski National Park is primarily governed by underlying glacial sediments and to a lesser extent by anthropogenic factors; the two remaining parks reveal a more distinct anthropogenic imprint. The most interesting of all the parks examined is Wigierski National Park because this area has experienced low levels of air pollution compared to other parts of Poland.

Opis:
Tatra National Park is the only national park in Poland located within Alpine mountain range. Berchtesgaden National Park can be regarded as an analogous example in Germany. So far, as many as 23 national parks have been established in Poland (1% of country’s total area), and 14 national parks in Germany (0.55%). The main aim of this article is to compare the availability of both these mountainous areas for touristic activity including legal foundations, elements of touristic development, and tourist arrivals. Touristic activity in Tatra and Berchtesgaden Alps dates back to the last decade of 19th century. No permanent tourist facilities existed in both considered parks during their official establishment: in 1954 (Tatra National Park) and 1978 (Berchtesgaden National Park). Presently, chiefly the Tatra National Park grapples with very intense tourist attractiveness. Mountain hostels available to the general public exist in both parks, but they are diverse as far as their functions and elevation above the mean sea level are concerned. Other forms of tourist facilities found in both parks include: accommodation for advanced activities (available for mountaineers and cavers) and food service. Nevertheless, ski resorts operate only in Tatras. These mountains are also distinguished by roads and parking lots located within the National Park’s boundaries whereas in Berchtesgaden Alps such infrastructure is located beyond the protected area. Both parks are comparable with respect to the length of mountain trails, but not to the number of tourist information points, something more typical for Berchtesgaden National Park. Lastly, all of the considered elements of touristic development are confronted with fixed protected zones in order to detect man-made impacts upon natural resources in both parks.

Opis:
National parks are among the most frequently visited tourist places in Poland. Every year, millions of tourists travel to spend time there and their number is constantly rising. National parks take nearly 30% of all domestic tourism. However, the number of people visiting individual national parks strongly varies. Some parks are visited by millions, others by only several thousand. The article is an attempt to indicate the main causes of the varying number of tourists visiting national parks. By analysing individual features of tourism in specific national parks, especially in those where the differences are most visible, the author attempts to distinguish aspects which may explain this phenomenon.

Observing wildlife at their natural habitat is practically a chance factor. However, there is alternative way by which it is possible to study the presence of wildlife and also their activities by indirect methods. North Bengal, especially Dooars is extreme rich in wildlife; therefore, there are many National Parks, Reserve forest as well as Wildlife Sanctuaries at this terrain. Studies on presence of wildlife by means of indirect evidences from different National Parks of Dooars reveals many untold stories. From this study it also evident that Dooars region is still harboring very good verities of wildlife, therefore, this is the demand of time to conserve these forests, as well as wildlife not only to save them from quick destruction but also to maintain human civilization.

As the number of people visiting national parks in Poland is constantly growing, it is important to recognise their varying motivations and preferences. This is particularly important in the most popular national parks, such as the National Park in the Karkonosze Mountains (KNP). KNP is visited by two millions tourists annually, which makes it the second most popular national park in Poland. The aim of study was to classify visitors of the national park in terms of their motivation to visit. Three main categories of visitors were identified: leisure seekers, nature lovers and active tourists. The category of leisure seekers was the largest and most diverse with respect to their preferences. Nature lovers knew a lot about the park, especially as regards its geodiversity and its fauna and flora. The number of active visitors keeps growing every year. Active tourism, especially in the KPN, requires advanced equipment and good physical fitness. The findings of the study tourism trends in mountain national parks and can provide insights for its management. The article ends with some predictions regarding future trends and changes in the classification of KPN visitors after the pandemic.

In the period 2009–2011, the micromycetes causing symptoms on the leaves of Schoenoplectus lacustris (SL) from Płociczno and Płociowe lakes in Drawa National Park (DNP) were investigated. A total of 39 taxa of microscopic fungi and chromistan fungi were found. The taxonomic structure of the mycobiota was dominated by anamorphs of Ascomycota. In each year of the study, the SL fungal species richness was higher in Płociowe Lake than in Płociczno Lake. In all the years of study in both lakes, the fungal community on SL was composed of the following six dominant species: Alternaria alternata, Cladosporium herbarum, Fusarium incarnatum, F. sacchari, Gibberella avenacea, and Pleospora scirpicola. The species occurring exclusively in Płociczno Lake were Papulaspora immersa, Puccinia scirpi, and Trichothecium roseum, and those found only in Płociowe Lake were Acremoniella atra, Alternaria atra, Aspergillus niger, A. versicolor, Fusarium oxysporum, Gonatobotrys simplex, Massariosphaeria scirpina, Microascus brevicaulis, Penicillium chrysogenum, and Stagonospora aquatica. Only one confirmation of the occurrence of Puccinia scirpi and the lack of other specialized obligate parasites indicate the good health of SL in DNP. The facultative parasites, inter alia, Boeremia exigua, Chaetomium globosum, Fusarium culmorum, F. incarnatum, F. sacchari, Gibberella avenacea, and Stagonospora aquatica that are present on plants as part of the natural process of apoptosis may influence the health of SL.

CULTURAL LANDSCAPE
Opis:
The characteristic features of the landscape of the Bieszczady National Park include a mutual penetration of elements of nature and culture. Areas representing supreme natural merits are composed of the polonina ranges (downs) and the lower mountain forests, together with their unique resources. On the other hand, superior cultural assets belong to historical landscapes in the 'land of valleys', preserving traces of old development and material culture, harmoniously inscribed into natural configurations. These traces are recorded with the help of vegetation and stones, including unkempt orchards, rows of old ash trees, balks and tracts, ancient linden trees and elms, as well as the overgrown underpinnings of cottages, manor houses or churches, either Eastern rite or Uniate, abandoned cemeteries, roadside crosses and derelict cellars. The permanent existence of a cultural landscape calls for systematic protection. A pertinent programme has been inaugurated within the Plan for the Protection of the Bieszczady National Park; its scope ecnompasses recommendations about protection, intent on, i. a. the preservation of the former structures of villages and traces of development, the protection of old trees and the retention of old names as well as rendering all those resources available for educational purposes. Particular conservation is due to roadside crosses and tombstones, whose survival is to a considerable degree imperilled. Nonetheless, it is quite possible that these souvenirs of a bygone world will be meticulously examined and subsequently preserved. The group of persons interested in the history and culture of the region is consistently growing, and the number of publications and historical iconography is on the rise.

European perch (Perca fluviatilis) is a widespread species of freshwater fish. The most frequently isolated parasites in this species are endoparasites, such as trematodes, cestodes and nematodes. The purpose of the study was to determine the presence of parasite species found in perch and the correlations between the occurrence of parasites and age in fish from the Lake Góreckie reserve, located in Wielkopolski National Park. Among 139 examined perch, parasites were found in 69,8%. The analysis showed parasite species from the genera Acanthocephalus, Cammallanus, Neoechinorhynchus, Triaenophorus, Proteocephalus and Tetracotylus. The most common parasitosis was taeniasis. The analyses showed that occurrence of parasites correlates with the age of perch. Older fish were more often infected with parasites, especially of the genus Triaenophorus.

The postulate of intergenerational justice is the core concept of sustainable development. National parks as protected areas with the highest status of protection bring together individual elements contained in the Brundtland definition and the tasks they perform are intended to satisfy the needs of the present generation, without prejudice to subsequent generations. The article presents the implementation of this postulate through a review of sustainable development concepts and their reference to the statutory tasks and functions performed by national parks.

Strong and long-lasting human activity in most European lowland river valleys results in narrowing the area of inudated ecosystems from wide floodplains to the space between embankments. This concerns especially regulation and drainage works, as well as hydrotechnical infrastructure construciton. The Warta Mouth National Park is a suitable region for inudated habitats research – over 5000 hectars of flood reservoir gathers here excess of water every year. It is one of the biggest flooded area in this part of Europe. The aim of this study was the analysis of flora changes over the dozen of years. The two inudated surfaces, different in respect of land use, were compared. Results indicate significant influence of land use on flora composition.

Opis:
Pines are generally fire-resistant trees. There is a shortage of research on the behaviour of Scots pine after surface fire in older stands. The aim of the work was to describe the effect of the surface fire intensity on the mortality of pines of various diameter at breast height (DBH), including older trees. The research was conducted in Peucedano-Pinetum oligotrophic Scots-pine forest in Kampinos National Park (KPN, central Poland) on the area of two adjacent surface fire sites originated in spring 2015 in 60- to 200-year-old stands (site area: 10,92 ha). There were 45 (28 burned and 17 control) permanent plots established after the fire. The share of not burned, superficially burned and completely burnout organic horizon of the soil was determined within all of them. DBH and location of pine trees were measured within all of the plots on the area of 200 m2. For all of the trees for which full information about soil organic horizon damage was mapped, the prevailing type of disturbance in their close neighbourhoods with radii of 1 and 2 m was assessed. The mortality of trees was assessed after each vegetation period up to 2017, basing on the presence of green needles on the trees. The influence of fire intensity on the survival of trees was examined on whole permanent plot level as well as on individual tree level. Strong linear correlation was observed between Scots pine mortality and the share of plots area with damaged organic layer, especially at the end of the third vegetation period after fire. Logistic regression models constructed for individual trees suggest that bigger tree diameter (hence, thicker bark) diminished the odds of mortality only after two vegetation periods from the fire. After the third vegetation period, only the intensity of surface fire in the close neighbourhood of trees influenced (negatively) the chance on survival. The size of trees did no matter in this case. Nearly all of the trees that were located within burnout organic matter areas died. The results did not support the commonly known mechanism of enhancement of bigger Scots pine tree survival after surface fire because of thicker bark responsible for heat protection. Probably, the main cause of observed mortality was not overheating of cambium but it was rather connected to massive fine root loses. Scots pines growing on oligotrophic arid sites modify their root system to explore topsoil layers with higher proportion of shallow roots, growing even in organic litter layer. This corresponds with massive (regardless of size) pine mortality within sites characterised by complete burnout of organic matter layer and very high survival in those ones with only surfacely burned litter layer. The results can improve the assessment of surface fires consequences in managed Scots pine stands growing in oligotrophic conditions.

The Park is situated on the Słowiński Coast and its almost whole area belongs to the Baltic Coastal Geobotanical Region. The studies were carried out in the cultivated fields of the SNP, mainly covered by pine forests, where agriculture plays a minor part. The material collected in the years 1997-1998 comprised 115 phytosociological relevés made by the Braun-Blanquet method, according to the classifications and nomenclature given by Kornas (1972). The names of species were adopted after Mirek et al. (1995). The paper presents the occurrence and analytical characteristics of subatlantic association against the background of habitat condition. Arnoserido-Scleranthetum is floristically the poorest community of weeds developing in winter cereals of the SNP. It is differentiated into two variants: A.-S. typicum and A.-S. myosotetosum with Anthoxanthum aristatum Boiss.
Badania terenowe prowadzono w latach 1997-1998. Wykonano łącznie 115 zdjęć fitosocjologicznych powszechnie stosowana w Polsce metodą Braun-Blanqueta. Klasyfikacje i nomenklaturę zespołu podano według Kornasia (1972). Nazewnictwo gatunków ustalono za Mirkiem et al. (1995). Podano ważniejsze cechy florystyczne wyróżnionej agrofitocenozy, jej wewnętrzne zróżnicowanie i powiązania z warunkami siedliskowymi. Do ich oceny wykorzystano fitoindykacyjną metodę Ellenberga. Zespół chłodka drobnego i czerwca rocznego jest najuboższym florystycznie zbiorowiskiem segetalnym zbóż ozimych w SPN. Zróżnicowane warunki troficzno-wilgotnościowe znalazły swoje odzwierciedlenie w podziale zespołu na dwa podzespoły: A.-S. typicum i A.-S. Myosotetosum.

Geocaching is not a threat to the environment, the rules of the game forbid the devastation of the environment near the cache. Many of the caches are located in the areas of national parks. Enthusiasts of a new form of tourism, which is geocaching, are rarely encountered near Roztoczański National Park, even though the area has a great potential for using in this game (play). Currently, there is only one cache in the Park at the Conservative Breeding Centre in Florianka. Numerous natural and cultural values, as well as developed tourism infrastructure create favorable conditions for the creation (establishment) of new caches in the RNP (Roztoczański National Park) and its surroundings. The authors present a proposal for the inclusion of new caches along the bicycle route Zwierzyniec – Florianka – Górecko Stare. General use of this kind of activity can be helpful in tourist traffic dispersal and directing tourists to places rarely visited.

Groundwater in the Kampinoski National Park (KPN) area is usually of fresh and ultrafresh type with mineralisation lower than 493.36 mg/dm3. The variation of groundwater types is mainly caused by low ability of the system to buffer the acid accumulation and contamination as well as by the lack of isolation. The aim of the monitoring system at the KPN is to prevent anthropogenic contamination of the system. Geochemical modeling is one of the most important elements of the monitoring. Description of geochemical speciations present in groundwater can be used for characterizing a variation of groundwaters’ natural and athropogenic chemistry. Not only speciation modeling (which can reveal speciation of particular elements in groundwater) should be a part of monitoring system, but also inverse modeling, allowing us to reconstruct processes cocurring in the system and their intensity.

Opis:
This study focused on bird species richness and diversity in Borgu sector, Kainji Lake National Park, Nigeria. The study was undertaken to derive information on the species of birds utilizing the study area, and to determine the relative abundance and diversity of birds in the study area. The Line transect methods was used for the study. The result revealed that the present number and kinds of birds species in all the ranges sampled is very low, with Range 4 having the highest bird’s species richness of (22.29%). A total of 3255 birds were inventoried in all the ranges. These belonged to 44 species from 28 families. Family Ardeidae contain the highest number of 593 birds, followed by the family Sturnidae and Numididae - having 392 and 351 birds, respectively. The findings indicate that birds’ abundance is very low with many bird species displaying 0% relative abundance. The low abundance and diversity of birds indicates that Kainji Lake National Park birds in relation to habitat characteristics is very poor. Furthermore, the result from the test prediction Output shows that the estimators predict that (after 5 samples) there will be 41 birds’ family species in the habitat in future, since they (ACE, ICE, Chao2, Jack2) level off at 41. The result indicate that only the same birds species, instead of new birds species are presently seen in Kainji Lake National Park, which are poorly represented among 28 families sampled. It is, therefore, recommended that environmental education campaign on birds’ conservation and protection should be carried out in the communities around the park so as to persuade residents to stop killing birds.

The purpose of this article is to evaluate the possibilities of touristic development of the La Lopé National Park and to indicate the most important barriers and limitations of the area exploitation. For this purpose a SWOT method was applied. This assignment presents the situation as of the end of 2014. The majority of the up-to-date data was collected during the mission, the purpose of which was to observe the region, and which was organized by Université Omar Bongo in Libreville and Warsaw University. The La Lopé National Park has a significant touristic potential which is very poorly used. The diagnose of the reasons for that can be an indicator for attempts to rationally use the resources of the region and present an appropriate development strategy.

The waters are acidic to neutral and are characterized by low mineralization. Concentrations of trace elements are commonly low. Elevated levels of Fe, Mn and Al are probably related to natural geochemical processes. The sediments are strongly contaminated by Cd, whereas other trace metals levels are at their hydrogeochemical background. The high level of Cd contamination is most probably related to long-range industrial emissions.

National Parks are the most attractive tourist areas in Poland. In 2015 they were visited by 12 323.2 thousand tourists who can benefit from various forms of tourism. The article aims is to examine how developed a tourist traffic in years 2006–2015 in national parks in Poland and demonstrate the negative aspects associated with excessive tourist traffic. The study attempts to analyze development and tourism in the various national parks. The author made a review of the literature and research on this field and analyze the data from Central Statistic Office. It has been shown that the number of tourists visiting national parks in 2015 increased by 7.41%, while the length of the hiking trails of 24.43%. Decreased the number of available beds. The main consequence of increased interest tourism in national parks is the danger of environmental degradation caused by excessive tourist traffic congestion. It was found that a form of counteracting the negative aspects of tourism in protected areas, is to incorporate the principles of sustainable development.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of the pedogenesis on the sulfur content in the forest soils of the Ojcow National Park (OPN). The study was carried out on soils representing the main units of OPN soil cover: brown rendzinas and soils lessives. Studied soils were characterized by a high variability of sulphate sulfur content within the profiles. The surface Ol horizons contained the highest amount of SO4-S (in rendzinas 104.2–248.0 mg kg–1, in soils lessives 101.0–232.0 mg kg–1) and a significantly higher than deeper horizons. The concentration of sulfur in the humus A horizons was lower (in rendzinas 14.1–91.4 mg kg–1, in soils lessives 16.5–35.5 mg kg–1) and similar to the values in the horizons of parent rock (in rendzinas 12.5–26.9 mg kg–1, in soils lessives 9.1–67.5 mg kg–1). Content of SO4-S was not varied between the Et eluvial horizons (15.9–47.3 mg kg–1) and illuvial Bt horizons (12.3–49.8 mg kg–1). The direction of pedogenesis had no effect on the vertical distribution of sulfur. This set was caused probably by a high variability of relief and profiles diversity within a type unit. Moreover, the content of the analyzed component was determined by a geographical location of soils and specific microclimatic conditions of the Ojcow National Park.
Celem pracy było określenie wpływu kierunku pedogenezy na zawartość siarki w glebach leśnych Ojcowskiego Parku Narodowego (OPN). Badaniami objęto gleby reprezentujące główne jednostki pokrywy glebowej OPN: rędziny brunatne i gleby płowe. Badane gleby charakteryzowały się dużą zmiennością zawartości siarki siarczanowej w obrębie profilu. Największe ilości S-SO4 zawierały powierzchniowe poziomy organiczne Ol (rędziny 104,2–248,0 mg kg–1, gleby płowe 101,0–232,0 mg kg–1). W poziomach próchnicznych A zawartość siarki była niższa (rędziny 14,1–91,4 mg kg–1, gleby płowe 16,5–35,5 mg kg–1) i zbliżona do wartości w poziomach spągowych analizowanych profilów (rędziny 12,5–26,9 mg kg–1, gleby płowe 9,1–67,5 mg kg–1).

Do badań wykorzystano zestaw wskaźników turystycznego przekształcenia krajobrazu i nasilenia overtourismu, dotyczących wielkości ruchu turystycznego i rozwoju infrastruktury turystycznej. Dotyczy to zwłaszcza najchętniej odwiedzanego Parku Narodowego Zion.
With the increase in global tourism, assessment of the negative impact of tourism on various aspects of reality, including the landscape, has become an important issue. One of the symptoms of the negative influence of tourism is the phenomenon of overtourism. This article presents an assessment of the degree of landscape transformation of Utah national parks due to the phenomenon of overtourism. The research used a set of indicators of tourism landscape transformation and the severity of overtourism concerning the volume of tourism and the development of tourism infrastructure. Moreover, the intensity of tourist traffic was measured. The results indicate a seasonal increase in tourist traffic and, therefore, the phenomenon of periodic overloading of the geosystem. The methodology used allowed the degree of landscape transformation resulting from excessive tourist traffic to be assessed in all analyzed national parks. Considering the seasonality of tourist traffic in protected areas, using tools to limit and channel tourist traffic in high tourist season is recommended. This refers primarily to Zion National Park, which is the most visited in the state.

The calamity situation in the forests of the Tatra National Park, caused by a windstorm on the 19th of November 2004, had widespread damaging effects. The wind calamity caused slashes and wind throws as well. The aim of our paper is to describe influence of the site conditions (parameters of vegetation, soil and georelief) on the windstorm impact at chosen representative localities in the High Tatras foothills. The results obtained by methods of large-scaled geo-ecological field research, remote sensing, geographical information system environment and statistical analyses are presented in this paper. Geotops of saddles, elevations of moraine and colluvial slopes with planted spruce growths and spruce-bilberry forests have been damaged most. Small damage was recorded on geotops of erosion slopes with spruce-bilberry and fir forests, depressions and slopes of moraines covered with mixed pioneer forests. The most important were herein the characteristics of the rock skeleton (mainly size and weathering), soil texture, georelief orientation or wind exposition. The important role of the altitude probably expresses a regional positional factor (distance from the uphill line).

Study on the distribution and abundance of kob (Kobus kob) in Borgu Sector Kainji Lake National Park was carried out. The studies was undertaken to derive information on the abundance of kob in Kainji Lake National Park and also determine the distribution of kob, in the area. The methodology employed in the study includes the use of direct method of census. Line transects was established using a stratified random sampling procedure. The data collected were analyzed using the formula - Total Population Ý = R·Z and the program DISTANCE. The result gathered revealed that each of these habitats contains ample number of kob throughout the year. The total estimated population of kobs censured in all the unit area = 9432 kobs /3970.02 km2, while the mean estimated population density is 0.09 ± 0.05 per km2, and the mean estimated population was 392 ± 210.11. There is therefore a 95% certainty that the true population size lies between 109.78 and 107.15 confidence limit. There is a high significant different at (P < 0.05) between the habitat types on kob abundance between the various habitat types in KLNP. The distribution of the kobs indicates that they are clumped in distribution, having an average cluster size of 14.617 in wet season and 18.067 in the dry season,. In a nut shell if the kobs herd is maintained in the reserve. Eco-tourism based on kobs watching to yield economic benefit to Kainji Lake National Park, Niger state and the Nation at large will be achieved. Therefore there should be extended mentoring programme to all the sectors of the park. This will go a long way to check illegal activities such as over grazing, poaching and tree logging that is affecting kobs population in Kainji Lake National Park.

The main objective of this study is to evaluate the changes in the hydrographic network of Słowiński National Park. The authors analysed the changes occurring in the drainage network due to limited maintenance in this legally protected natural area. To accomplish this task, elaborations prepared on the basis of aerial photographs were used: an orthophoto map from 1996, hyperspectral imaging from June 2015, and a digital terrain model based on airborne laser scanning (ALS) from June 2015. These spatial data resources enabled the digitisation of the water courses for which selected hydro-morphological features had been defined. As a result of analysing the differences of these features, a quality map was elaborated which was then subjected to interpretation, and the identified changes were quantified in detail.

Opis:
The rapid post-millennial internationalisation of Japan’s tourism sector and the influx of international visitors have quickly increased visitor motivations’ heterogeneity, thereby posing challenges for management. Given the lack of prior research, we aimed to identify nature-based tourism (NBT) push-factor motivation domains of visitors in a Japanese national park and segment domestic and international visitors based on their motivations, demographics and trip profiles. Primary data collection of 137 responses took place in November 2019 through an on-site self-administered questionnaire. From 11 push-factor statements, the principal component analysis yielded a four-factor solution: ‘enjoying nature with family or friends’, ‘improving physical health’, ‘discovering and learning’ and ‘escaping’. In addition, t-tests revealed significant differences between domestic and international visitors in three out of the four motivation dimensions. Underlying visitor profiles could explain some such differences. Despite the differences, both international and domestic visitors share similar motivations regarding ‘improving physical health’. These findings hint at the complexity of monitoring heterogeneous visitor segments within Japanese NBT. Despite increasing international visitors, there has been a lack of the necessary infrastructure and facilities to accommodate them. Thus, this study’s implications might help diversify NBT management strategies to deal with current shortcomings in Japan’s tourism sector.

Specialized authorities in the field of environmental protection have existed since the beginning of the creation of the system of organization of environmental services and the amount of them has been steadily widening. This has been particularly evident in case of nature conservation law which is a part of environmental law. The fact of existence of authorities having specialized knowledge is particularly important in the context of new environmental tasks resulting from the implementation of European Union legal norms often using professional knowledge. The purpose of this article is to present the specialized authorities functioning in the field of nature conservation, the scope of taking advantage of their professional knowledge potential. The article also aims at taking of trial of assessment of adopted regulations accuracy concerning the division of tasks and competences of public authorities with regard to administration of forms of nature  conservation, as well as presenting de lege ferenda comments aiming at nature conservation tasks performing more effectively.

Opis:
In the paper, the results of field studies using automatic meteorological stations are presented. The studies were conducted in July 2005 - July 2006 in the vertical profile of Natural National Park of Carpathians. The results show that the thermal conditions in the area under research is strongly differentiated. Particularly large differences have been observed between the lowerings of the terrain (where the range of annual air temperature changes reaches almost 70˚C, exceptionally high and exceptionally low temperature occurs often, and thermal inversions are frequently encountered) and the summit region (where the range of annual air temperature changes barely exceeds 50˚C and the mean changes of daily air temperature are consideraly smaller).

Opis:
Cross River National Park lies between, latitude 5° 05′ and 6° 29′ N and on longitude 8° 15′ and 9° 30′ E., in the South-Eastern corner of Nigeria, in Cross River State. It covers an area of about 4,000sq. km of primary tropical moist rainforest ecosystem in the south and central parts, and montane mosaic on the Obudu Plateau. It is an important ecological gene-pool containing one of the oldest rainforest in Africa. It lies in the Guineo-Congolian rainforest refugia with close canopy and scattered emergent trees which reach a height of between 40 and 50 metres. The vegetation is studied to have evolved over 60 million years. On account of its critical conservation status it has been designated as one of the 25 United Nations biodiversity hotspots in the world. Cross River National Park have two distinct, non-contagious Divisions: Oban and Okwango. Survey of wild mushrooms occurring in the park (Oban Hills Division) was carried out between the months of April to September in 2015 and 2016 respectively. A total of 80 species of mushroom belonging to 40 families and 55 genera were identified using their macro-morphological features. The identified species and varieties spread over in the following genera viz., Agaricus, Agrocybe, Aleuria, Amanita, Arachnopeziza, Armillaria, Armillariella, Ascocoryne, Atroumbonata, Auricularia, Betula, Bisporella, Boletus, Bonderzewia, Cantharellus, Cerrena, Clitocybe, Coenocybe, Collybia,Coltricia, Coprinellus, Coprinus, Cortinarius, Craterellus, Crepidotus, Cystoderma, Daedaleopsis, Entoloma, Exidia, Fomes, Fomitopsis, Galerina, Ganoderma, Gloeophyllum, Gymnopus, Gyromitra, Hebeloma, Helvella, Hydrochaete, Hygrocybe, Inocybe, Laccaria, Lentinus, Lepiota, Marasmus, Mycena, Omphalotus, Peziza, Pleurotus, Psathyrella, Schizophyllum,Scutellinia, Tapinella, Tramates and Tyromyces. This study therefore shows that the Cross River National Park (Oban Hills Division) is home to a variety of wild mushrooms.

Opis:
This research work centered on a survey of road kill along two major transportation routes to access the level of road fatality between the routes. A total number of ninety-five (95) questionnaires were administered – forty-eight (48) for park staff and security personnel and forty-seven (47) for road transport workers (kainji – lumma and kainji – ibbi) branch. The data was analyzed using table and simple percentage. Both routes had significant numbers of road kill - mostly reptiles (69% of the total). Our research also revealed that the wild animals were affected most by human habituation/feeding. Furthermore, 73% of the respondents believe that wildlife signage can be used to reduce rate of road mortality, while 27% choose road-warning signs. The study shows the need for proper mitigation measures and also for the application of modern methods of monitoring road activities and for managing wildlife habitats.

Opis:
The aim of the study was to assess the trophism of soils in the strict nature protection area using the soil trophic index (SIG). The ‘Rybitew’ strict protection area (224.2 ha, created in 1965), is located in the north−eastern part of the Kampinos National Park (central Poland). The results of field and laboratory studies of the physicochemical and chemical properties of soils made it possible to determine their trophism by the SIG index. In the ‘Rybitew’ strict protection area, significant typological diversity of soils (10 subtypes) was found. The soils belong to the following trophic groups determined by the SIG: mixed coniferous forests (BM), mixed broadleaved forests (LM), alder forest (swamp broadleaved forest site) (Ol) and soil developed from low and transitional peatlands. The average value and range of SIG for particular trophic groups was: 19 (15−23) for BM, 26 (25−28) for LM, 34 for Ol was well as 23 for organic soil developed from low peatland and 21 for organic soil made from transitional peatland. Most of the ‘Rybitew’ area is covered by Podzols, Brunic Arenosols and Luvisol occurring in the trophic group of BM and LM. A lot of the soils undergo acidification process, which leads to a reduction in their trophism due to the excessive share of pine in the stand. This causes the podzolization process of Luvisols and significant acidification of the upper horizons, high C:N value and the moder type ectohumus formation, especially in Haplic Gleysols and Haplic Phaeozems. The large typological and trophic diversity of soils and the vegetation covering them in the ‘Rybitew’ strict protection area confirm the rightness of its creation.

Opis:
Background: Water quality for tourists visiting South Luangwa National Park and other less developed regions is of the utmost importance in order to avoid gastrointestinal infections; one of the most common diseases among tourists. It is also important to the health of the local tourist accommodations and the local tourist economy. Methods: Water quality samples assessing microbiological contamination were taken from the borehole and point of use in 14 tourist lodges and camps. Turbidity was assessed optically with a DelAlgua turbidity tube. For microbiological analysis, samples were incubated in the DelAgua Dual Incubator at 37°C and 44°C. Thermotolerant Escherichia coli (E. coli) was used as theindicator bacterium for fecal pollution. Water samples were classified based of risk levels for pollution determined by the World Health Organization (WHO). Results: Fifty percent of borehole samples showed no contamination. Two were found to be at high risk and the others ranged between low and intermediate risk. At the point of use, 80% of the samples were clean and compliant with WHO guidelines. Water contamination generally improved from the borehole to point of use. Turbidity at borehole samples were clear in 75% of possible samples. At the point of use, turbidity was clear in 81% of samples. Conclusion: This study establishes the first baseline water quality data for tourist facilities at South Luangwa National Park in Zambia. While water quality at most sites is clean for human use, a regular monitoring system accompanied by maintenance is recommended.

Tatra National Park
Opis:
Tatra National Park is the most frequently visited national park in Poland. During the peak season (summer), it attracts both ‘fully aware’ tourists, properly prepared for mountain hiking, and ‘casual’ hikers, motivated mainly by the shallow desire to ‘tick off’ the most popular places in the highest Polish mountains. The article describes the specific character of mountain hikers in Tatra National Park during the summer season, with particular attention paid to the motivations and skills involved in active tourism.
