Opis:
From an economic point of view, protected areas do not bring in high profits, in comparison to other possible ways of land usage. National parks and nature reserves are costly in their creation, as well as in their subsequent upkeep and management. In developing countries, their operation can be the source of many political and economic problems. Usually, local communities neighboring protected areas perceive the existence of a protected zone negatively, although they are often able to avail themselves of park resources in various ways. Besides being given the opportunity to rationally make use of certain park resources, community members may be employed as park attendants, which is a practice that is widespread. A part of the profits obtained from the developing tourist industry may be allocated towards local development programs, e.g. the building of a new hospital or school. Some national parks, while lacking the adequate infrastructure necessary for tourism, grapple with a lack of funds. The lack of earning opportunities in connection with the development of tourism results in the local community's over-exploitation of park resources. This often manifests itself in an increased incidence of poaching in the protected area.

Veľká Fatra National Park
Opis:
The present study deals with the evaluation of the management of Veľká Fatra National Park and its comparison with three other selected national parks of the Visegrád Four: Bohemian Switzerland National Park (Czech Republic), Bieszczady National Park (Poland) and the Bükk National Park (Hungary). The information about Veľká Fatra National Park was acquired through a SWOT analysis. The weaknesses and threats found following the SWOT analysis were further evaluated by an analysis of the "force field" and a "problem analysis". The management applied in individual parks was evaluated through the expert system Integrated Protected Area Management (IPAM) with the aim to improve the present management. Another part of the examination is the evaluation of the environmental edification and of the consciousness of students of grammar schools and secondary schools, both in the region where the National Park is located and outside that region. The examination for this study was carried out between 2010-2014. A survey of the environmental consciousness and edification has been implemented in all surveyed countries and the tool of exploratory method was a questionnaire, which was distributed to 1301 respondents. The survey managed to confirm the assumption that in some areas the level of environmental consciousness of the target group is very low. This situation is justified by the fact that schools do not have a precise definition in what form and to what extent attention should be paid to this field. Another reason is the insufficient cooperation between schools and National Parks.   References: Beregszászi, P. (1995). Štúdia k pojmu cestovný ruch orientovaný na životné prostredie. This report presents an assessment of chemical variability in forest ecosystems of three selected national parks in Poland, i.e. Magurski National Park, Świętokrzyski National Park (Holy CrossMts.) andWigierski National Park derived from the calculation of geochemical baselines using a "barbell" cluster and ANOVA design. In addition, results of summary statistics for elemental concentrations and pH in the soil horizons-O (Ol + Ofh), -A and -B (or -E), 1 and 2 year old Pinus sylvestris needles, pine bark and Hypogymnia physodes thalli are given. The variability of elements in soils and plant bioindicators of Wigierski National Park is primarily governed by underlying glacial sediments and to a lesser extent by anthropogenic factors; the two remaining parks reveal a more distinct anthropogenic imprint. The most interesting of all the parks examined is Wigierski National Park because this area has experienced low levels of air pollution compared to other parts of Poland.

Opis:
Tatra National Park is the only national park in Poland located within Alpine mountain range. Berchtesgaden National Park can be regarded as an analogous example in Germany. So far, as many as 23 national parks have been established in Poland (1% of country’s total area), and 14 national parks in Germany (0.55%). The main aim of this article is to compare the availability of both these mountainous areas for touristic activity including legal foundations, elements of touristic development, and tourist arrivals. Touristic activity in Tatra and Berchtesgaden Alps dates back to the last decade of 19th century. No permanent tourist facilities existed in both considered parks during their official establishment: in 1954 (Tatra National Park) and 1978 (Berchtesgaden National Park). Presently, chiefly the Tatra National Park grapples with very intense tourist attractiveness. Mountain hostels available to the general public exist in both parks, but they are diverse as far as their functions and elevation above the mean sea level are concerned. Other forms of tourist facilities found in both parks include: accommodation for advanced activities (available for mountaineers and cavers) and food service. Nevertheless, ski resorts operate only in Tatras. These mountains are also distinguished by roads and parking lots located within the National Park’s boundaries whereas in Berchtesgaden Alps such infrastructure is located beyond the protected area. Both parks are comparable with respect to the length of mountain trails, but not to the number of tourist information points, something more typical for Berchtesgaden National Park. Lastly, all of the considered elements of touristic development are confronted with fixed protected zones in order to detect man-made impacts upon natural resources in both parks.

Opis:
National parks are among the most frequently visited tourist places in Poland. Every year, millions of tourists travel to spend time there and their number is constantly rising. National parks take nearly 30% of all domestic tourism. However, the number of people visiting individual national parks strongly varies. Some parks are visited by millions, others by only several thousand. The article is an attempt to indicate the main causes of the varying number of tourists visiting national parks. By analysing individual features of tourism in specific national parks, especially in those where the differences are most visible, the author attempts to distinguish aspects which may explain this phenomenon.

Observing wildlife at their natural habitat is practically a chance factor. However, there is alternative way by which it is possible to study the presence of wildlife and also their activities by indirect methods. North Bengal, especially Dooars is extreme rich in wildlife; therefore, there are many National Parks, Reserve forest as well as Wildlife Sanctuaries at this terrain. Studies on presence of wildlife by means of indirect evidences from different National Parks of Dooars reveals many untold stories. From this study it also evident that Dooars region is still harboring very good verities of wildlife, therefore, this is the demand of time to conserve these forests, as well as wildlife not only to save them from quick destruction but also to maintain human civilization.

As the number of people visiting national parks in Poland is constantly growing, it is important to recognise their varying motivations and preferences. This is particularly important in the most popular national parks, such as the National Park in the Karkonosze Mountains (KNP). KNP is visited by two millions tourists annually, which makes it the second most popular national park in Poland. The aim of study was to classify visitors of the national park in terms of their motivation to visit. Three main categories of visitors were identified: leisure seekers, nature lovers and active tourists. The category of leisure seekers was the largest and most diverse with respect to their preferences. Nature lovers knew a lot about the park, especially as regards its geodiversity and its fauna and flora. The number of active visitors keeps growing every year. Active tourism, especially in the KPN, requires advanced equipment and good physical fitness. The findings of the study tourism trends in mountain national parks and can provide insights for its management. The article ends with some predictions regarding future trends and changes in the classification of KPN visitors after the pandemic.

In the period 2009–2011, the micromycetes causing symptoms on the leaves of Schoenoplectus lacustris (SL) from Płociczno and Płociowe lakes in Drawa National Park (DNP) were investigated. A total of 39 taxa of microscopic fungi and chromistan fungi were found. The taxonomic structure of the mycobiota was dominated by anamorphs of Ascomycota. In each year of the study, the SL fungal species richness was higher in Płociowe Lake than in Płociczno Lake. In all the years of study in both lakes, the fungal community on SL was composed of the following six dominant species: Alternaria alternata, Cladosporium herbarum, Fusarium incarnatum, F. sacchari, Gibberella avenacea, and Pleospora scirpicola. The species occurring exclusively in Płociczno Lake were Papulaspora immersa, Puccinia scirpi, and Trichothecium roseum, and those found only in Płociowe Lake were Acremoniella atra, Alternaria atra, Aspergillus niger, A. versicolor, Fusarium oxysporum, Gonatobotrys simplex, Massariosphaeria scirpina, Microascus brevicaulis, Penicillium chrysogenum, and Stagonospora aquatica. Only one confirmation of the occurrence of Puccinia scirpi and the lack of other specialized obligate parasites indicate the good health of SL in DNP. The facultative parasites, inter alia, Boeremia exigua, Chaetomium globosum, Fusarium culmorum, F. incarnatum, F. sacchari, Gibberella avenacea, and Stagonospora aquatica that are present on plants as part of the natural process of apoptosis may influence the health of SL.

CULTURAL LANDSCAPE
Opis:
The characteristic features of the landscape of the Bieszczady National Park include a mutual penetration of elements of nature and culture. Areas representing supreme natural merits are composed of the polonina ranges (downs) and the lower mountain forests, together with their unique resources. On the other hand, superior cultural assets belong to historical landscapes in the 'land of valleys', preserving traces of old development and material culture, harmoniously inscribed into natural configurations. These traces are recorded with the help of vegetation and stones, including unkempt orchards, rows of old ash trees, balks and tracts, ancient linden trees and elms, as well as the overgrown underpinnings of cottages, manor houses or churches, either Eastern rite or Uniate, abandoned cemeteries, roadside crosses and derelict cellars. The permanent existence of a cultural landscape calls for systematic protection. A pertinent programme has been inaugurated within the Plan for the Protection of the Bieszczady National Park; its scope ecnompasses recommendations about protection, intent on, i. a. the preservation of the former structures of villages and traces of development, the protection of old trees and the retention of old names as well as rendering all those resources available for educational purposes. Particular conservation is due to roadside crosses and tombstones, whose survival is to a considerable degree imperilled. Nonetheless, it is quite possible that these souvenirs of a bygone world will be meticulously examined and subsequently preserved. The group of persons interested in the history and culture of the region is consistently growing, and the number of publications and historical iconography is on the rise.

European perch (Perca fluviatilis) is a widespread species of freshwater fish. The most frequently isolated parasites in this species are endoparasites, such as trematodes, cestodes and nematodes. The purpose of the study was to determine the presence of parasite species found in perch and the correlations between the occurrence of parasites and age in fish from the Lake Góreckie reserve, located in Wielkopolski National Park. Among 139 examined perch, parasites were found in 69,8%. The analysis showed parasite species from the genera Acanthocephalus, Cammallanus, Neoechinorhynchus, Triaenophorus, Proteocephalus and Tetracotylus. The most common parasitosis was taeniasis. The analyses showed that occurrence of parasites correlates with the age of perch. Older fish were more often infected with parasites, especially of the genus Triaenophorus.

Opis:
The postulate of intergenerational justice is the core concept of sustainable development. National parks as protected areas with the highest status of protection bring together individual elements contained in the Brundtland definition and the tasks they perform are intended to satisfy the needs of the present generation, without prejudice to subsequent generations. The article presents the implementation of this postulate through a review of sustainable development concepts and their reference to the statutory tasks and functions performed by national parks.

Środowisko parku należy chronić i właściwie nim gospodarować. Należy odejść od dotychczasowego podejścia konserwatorskiego do gospodarowania zgodnego z zasadami zrównoważonego rozwoju. Podejście takie gwarantuje zachowanie walorów przyrodniczych w niezmienionym stanie i przyczynia się do poprawy ekonomicznych warunków życia lokalnej społeczności.
