Opis:
The ship hull vibration has a great impact on the performance, safety of the devices, structures, and the sailor's comfort when working on the ship. With increases in ship sizes and speeds, shipboard vibration becomes a significant concern in the design and construction of ships. Therefore, designing a ship without any excessive vibration is an important issue and should be studied through analysis right in the design phase. To ensure minimum vibration in a proposed new design; avoid damage to structures, machinery or equipment (mechanically suitable); meeting the requirements of the crew's living environment and working conditions. The ship's natural vibrations are determined to right from the design stage, which will help ship designers and structures avoid dangerous resonance areas. In this study, a three-dimensional finite element model representing the entire ship hull, including the deckhouse and machinery propulsion system, has been developed using numerical modelling implemented in Patran-Nastran software for local and global vibration analyses of the container ship 2000 TEU. Vibration analyses have been conducted under two conditions: free– free (dry) and in-water (wet). The wet analysis has been implemented using Mfluid elements in Nastran software. Because of the global ship free vibration analysis, global natural frequencies and mode shapes have been determined. Combined with the frequency of the main engine and the propeller, the resonant regions with higher frequencies are determined by the resonant graph of the hull. The application of the finite element method for ship vibration analysis shows the optimal of numerical modelling method compared to other traditional methods. This will help other technical problems to be solved with the support of the finite element method.

Opis:
Thin-walled structures are very popular in industries, especially in the field of shipbuilding. There are many types of equipment and structures of ships, which are made up of thin-walled structures such as hull, deck and superstructure. Therefore, the analysis and understanding of the static and dynamic characteristics of a thin-walled structure are very important. In this article, we focus on vibration analysis of a typical thin-walled structurerectangular plate, a basic structure of the hull. Vibration analysis of a rectangular thin plate is conducted by two methods: numerical modelling method of the finite element on Patran-Nastran software platform and experimental method implemented in the laboratory of Gdynia Maritime University. Thin rectangular plate is fixed one end by four clamping plates and is modelled with finite elements and different meshing densities. The numerical model of thin rectangular plate is divided into four cases. Case 1, thin rectangular plate, and clamping plates are modelled with two-dimensional elements. Case 2, the rectangular thin plate is modelled with two-dimensional elements; the clamping plates are modelled with three-dimensional elements. Case 3, both the rectangular thin plate and clamping plates are modelled with three-dimensional elements. Case 4, the rectangular thin plate, and clamping plates are modelled with three-dimensional elements with larger mesh density to increase the accuracy of the calculation results. After that, the results of vibration analysis according to the numerical modelling method on Patran-Nastran software platform for these cases were compared with the measurement results. From there, assess the accuracy of analysis results of selected numerical model methods and the ability to widely apply this numerical model method to other marine structures

Opis:
The purpose of the study is to compute an approached satellite thermal model to be able to estimate the heat transfer and the maximum temperature through the harmonic gear for small size geostationary satellite. We use finite element method using known data with Nastran In-CAD FEM software. The presented results show temperature gradients compatible with experimental information. Though the results are not correlated with dedicated tests, they seems to be in line with what can be found in literature. The paper use these information in dedicated analysis related to impact of temperature gradient in precision mechanism. The second purpose of the study is to show that simplified tools and methods allows to reach results sufficient for preliminary analysis. The space business is changing fast with growing private companies that are challenging conservative space standards. A simplified analysis allowing to reduce cost and increase competitiveness is presented.

Opis:
In this paper, the finite element method (FEM) is used to calculate the strength of truck frames by integrating the MSC Adams software, for dynamics analysis of mechanical systems, and the NX Nastran/Femap software. At the same time, a method for reducing degrees of freedom is been developed based on the Craig–Bampton method. The interface is applied in order to calculate the strength of the frame in the selected truck, which runs on the test track. The selected model of truck can be treated as the virtual prototype that is useful in the design process.

Opis:
The article presents a simulation of metal hardness determination by the Rockwell method. The authors describe a physical model of an indenter and the examined sample built by means of the Nastran FX 2010 program using the finite elements method. The modelling included subsequent stages of indenter loads that follow the procedure used in the method. The verifying calculations were made for the results of C45 steel hardness of approx. 20 HRC. Two methods of hardness measurements were analyzed. A diamond cone was used as an indenting tool in one method, a steel ball in the other. As a result of calculations, spatial maps of elastic and plastic strains and stresses were obtained throughout the process. The hardness results obtained from computer simulations and those from experiments involving C45 steel are similar. metal hardness, Rockwell method, finite elements method, Nastran FX 2010, elastic strains twardość metalu, metoda Rockwella, metoda elementów skończonych, Nastran FX 2010, odkształcenia sprężyste

Opis:
W artykule przeprowadzono ocenę oprogramowania wykorzystywanego do nauki projektowania złożonych i wielkogabarytowych konstrukcji cienkościennych. Większość oferowanych środowisk graficznych umożliwia zamodelowanie struktury przestrzennej obiektu i przeprowadzenie badań symulacyjnych obejmujących np.: analizę wytrzymałościową i statyczną, obliczenia drgań własnych i wymuszonych. Moduł obliczeniowy w tego typu programach bazuje na metodzie elementów skończonych. W pracy zamieszczono przykładową ścieżkę projektową i analizę pokładu okrętu typu RO-RO, na którym zaparkował samochód ciężarowy. W przedstawionym przykładzie wykorzystano oprogramowanie firmy MSC z preprocesorem Patran i modułem obliczeniowym Nastran.
In the paper the software to the teaching of designing of complex and large-scale thin-walled structures was evaluated by the authors. The bundle of MSC software, named Patran-Nastran, was presented. The software is based on Finite Element Method. The authors, during the teaching process, focus on basic analyses: linear static strength analysis, normal mode (eigenvectors) analysis and frequency response analysis (forced vibrations calculations). An example of RO-RO ship's deck analysis was presented. The deck was loaded with the wheels of truck. A short description of the modeling process as well as the results of the analyses are presented in the paper. Discussion about objectives of the teaching process was carried out. In the authors' opinion, knowledge of that very specialized software is important not only for a calculating engineer. All mechanical engineers should have basic knowledge about the calculations process because they will be recipients of the calculations performed during structure designing. Thin-walled structures are very useful for teaching because during the structure modeling we have to choose types of FEM elements. Stiffeners may be modeled by 1-D elements (with offset) and the plates should be modeled by 2D elements. Differences between beam and rod 1D elements as well as shell, plate and membrane 2D elements should be stressed during the teaching process.
