Opis:
The author of the article examines the essence of the “founding myth” concept and analyses its role in legitimizing the power in the III RP. She reconstructs the theory basing upon Polish and international scientific output. The author asks whether referring to certain „founding myths” of post-Solidarity political groups is more then a manipulation, which may pass like an ordinary political trend or if it is the definition of a constant domination in shaping the ideological and political system of contemporary Poland. The author also analyses theoretical connection between the “political myth” and “founding myth” and their effects on social consciousness. She recalls the best known “political myths” from Polish history and determines whether the Polish people are easily affected by political mythologization among constantly arising new “founding myths” as it happened in the past. There is no doubt that referring to the “founding myths” in current politics deepens the socio-political divisions in Poland.

Fourth Republic of Poland
Opis:
From The Noble Republic of Poland to the Fourth Republic: a Short Review of Polish Founding MythsThere is one type of political myths returning especially often in the Polish political space. This type of myth, founding myth, gains a lot of followers especially during social crises. The main aim of this article is to remind the most popular Polish founding myths together with their historical context. Moreover, a comparison of the past political myths function with their latest variation, the so-called “Fourth Republic of Poland” founding myths, was described. In the summary section, a special attention is devoted to the danger related with using the founding myths for particular motivated political interests.

Opis:
The aim of the presented paper was to find out whether Czech and Slovak teachers are affected by myths about the gifted. We selected myths concerning the nature of giftedness, its identification, social and emotional characteristics of the gifted, and their education. The myths were examined in regard to determinants regarding educators. Data from 434 teachers (350 women) were collected by a foreign questionnaire. The results showed that these educators tend to hold myths about overachievement of the gifted without special care, simultaneity of giftand creativity, and the correlation of giftedness with social and emotional problems. The group with a higher risk to be susceptible to certain myths are teachers over 40 years of age, with experience longer than 10 years, teaching in villages and having no contact with giftedness. Thus, we recommend focusing especially on further training of these high-risk groups of teachers in order to rebut their misconceptions about the gifted. The research was supported by the research grant of the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic registered under number P407/11/1272.

MYTHS
Opis:
This article is devoted to ways of exploring the mythical strains in Dante's Divine Comedy. Previous research has managed to extrapolate the classical myths and their medieval variants from Dante's work. However, the theory of myth developed by Hans Blumenberg opens a broader perspective for interpretation, revealing not only the myths' anthropological and historical background, but also demonstrating the way they function within a literary work. The 'world image' presented in the Divine Comedy can be explored in three stages of interpretation. At the most basic level, the article refers to the 'catalogue' of classical and Christian myths contained in Dante's poem. Further analysis of mythical subject-matter allows us to distinguish periodical variants of myths from Antiquity to our time. Finally, 'the working of the myth' is considered at the most general level, with the help of 'absolute metaphors', epitomizing the key images dominating the worldview at every historical period. Being devoted to the central myth of Christianity, Dante believed to have connected 'earth and heaven' with the bridge of his art. The new approach to the subject of myth in Dante's poem, using anthropologically-based concepts, allows us to better understand the construction and functions of Dante's poetic 'journey' in European culture.

The paper discuss the problem of lusophony as a poscolonial neoimperial Portuguese ideology. The author claims that the lusophonic mythology, that is currently being created, is ingrained in the tradition of salazarist propaganda. Also the frequent mentions of lusotropicalism in the context of the modern lusophony is observed especially in the case of enunciations of the Portuguese dignitaries of whom Mario Soares is the most proeminent. The conclusion is that the idea of lusophony may resemble lusotropicalism in many aspects, especially if we take into account the Portuguese point of view. Also the approach towards the idea of lusophony of the Portuguese speaking African countries and Brasil is shortly discussed.

There is no need to prove the significant role played by legends, myths and stereotypes in the history of the world. Also in the Polish lands, we can find many stories connected with the history of the Jews. There is still no comprehensive study on legends concerning Jews in mediaeval Poland, but we already have the book by Haya Bar-Itzhak, a professor of Comparative Hebrew Literature at the Haifa University. An exception here may be the well-known legend about the love affair between King Kazimierz Wielki (Casimir the Great) and the Jewish girl Esther, which has been widely described in many works. Of special importance is the book written by the eminent literary historian and linguist, Chone Shmeruk, entitled 'Legenda o Esterce w literaturze jidysz i polskiej' (The Legend of Esther in Yiddish and Polish Literature).

Electricity is one of the factors shaping the quality of life of society. The Polish energy sector is to a large extent identified with fossil fuel used in conventional energy, based mainly on hard coal, which is not fully in line with the current energy policy of the European Union. Therefore, today it is necessary to use renewable energy more efficiently, which, in addition to the clearly indicated economic effect, also accentuates environmental effects. The purpose of the work is to show the opinions of young people aged 15–24 in terms of their awareness of the interpretation of myths about renewable energy, which is a key problem in the development of the modern energy sector, and to indicate the directions of development of the energy policy in Poland.

Opis:
Aim. The aim of this article is to analyse Aboriginal myths and discover the relationship between animals and humans in the beliefs of the indigenous Australians. The article attempts to explain how animals are described when compared to people and vice. Furthermore, the author endeavours to establish what the relationship looks like and how it is presented.   Methods. As Aboriginal myths and mythologies have been evolving for hundreds and thousands of years, it is not possible to analyse every single myth. Hence, in order to narrow them down, only the myths presented by Alexander Wyclif Reed will be analysed. The analysis will be conducted from the perspective of Animals Studies, with a particular focus on the contemporary ecological views presented by a contemporary representative of an ecological turn and animal rights scholar, Peter Wohlleben. The analysis will focus on three main aspects: parenting/motherly love, instincts, feelings and emotions.   Results. The analysis shows that animals were of the utmost importance in the Aboriginal everyday life and most of the time were treated on a par with humans. Just like the Aboriginal point of view, contemporary attitude to Animal Studies attempts to alter the view according to which animals are devoid of feelings and intelligence.   Conclusions. Animals seem to have a crucial role in every aspect of Aboriginal everyday life, including religious and social. They were not perceived as lesser or worse; conversely, Aboriginals considered them to be as intelligent and significant as the Aboriginal people themselves.

National megalomania in Polish reflection in the early 20th centuryIn the early 20th century, a number of Polish thinkers betrayed a mentality in which was deeply rooted the notion of the Polish nation’s unique character. These thinkers also expressed a conviction that Poles had a special mission both in Europe in general and towards other European nations. The signs of the intellectual elite’s national megalomania were reflected in Polish journalistic writings in the final period of World War I and the initial period of regained independence shortly after it.The article analyzes the views of selected thinkers: the philosopher W. Lutosławski, the journalist and literary critic A. Górski, the publicist A. Chołoniewski, and the historian J.K. Kochanowski. All of them believed in an optimistic picture of Polish history and emphasized the significance of the Polish mission in an ethical dimension understood as a desire to establish European order based both on respect towards the individual and at the same time on national diversity. This attitude was clearly based on Romantic thought – a historiosophy tinted with mesianism. All these authors dealt with the same themes from Polish history, treating them as a justification of their attitudes (such as: the Republic of Nobility as an embodiment of the ideal of freedom, Poland as an intermediary between the East and the West, as well as the propagator of Christian civilization in the East; the prominent role of Poles among the Slavic peoples, the importance of Catholicism). All in all, they created a mythologized vision of the Polish Republic in order to integrate the Polish society and mobilize it to act. This stream of glorification of the Polish statehood met with severe criticism after Poland regained its independence. S. Zakrzewski, F. Bujak, J.S. Bystroń, Bocheński brothers and others protested against falsifying the history of Poland.

Opis:
The subject of this article is the comparative analysis of the role of historical figures and related national myths in the process of reconstituting the national imagery. The establishment of the Republic in Portugal led to a reformulation of the social imagery, which became apparent through “re-enchantment” (G. Durand), an outbreak of cultural activity informed by national mythology. The shift in the attitude towards myths during that period is vivid in literary texts dedicated to the main political figures, such as Sidónio Pais. In À memória do Presidente-Rei Sidónio Pais (In memory of President-King Sidónio Pais) from 1920, Fernando Pessoa applies the sebastianist myth so as to achieve the messianization of a historical figure. The use of Sebastianism with the objective of a renovation of national imagery culminates in Mensagem (The Message, 1934), the climax of a process of mythification of the Portuguese reality. In Poland, a similar crucial historical moment is the restoration of the national and democratic state in 1918, associated with the figure of Józef Piłsudski. General Piłsudski is a symbolic figure of independence and a protagonist of the poetic volumes Karmazynowy poemat (Carmin Poem) by Jan Lechoń, from 1920, and Wolność tragiczna (Tragic Liberty) by Kazimierz Wierzyński, from 1936. These works struggle to break free from the literary myths of the Polish Romantic era. The poems, highly intertextual and dialogical, are an attempt to demythify reality, which makes the role of national myths in Poland different than in Portugal. In the Portuguese context, the myths, though applied emblematically and incorporated in the Sorelian strategy, serve a purpose of national renovation, while in Poland, they are considered the main obstacle to the rebirth of national culture.

This paper explores the role of myths and archetypes in organizational research. The notion of myth is introduced and theories regarding the origins of mythology are discussed. Myth’s typical features and its role in shaping social reality are considered to better understand the role of mythology in modern organizations. The role of archetype in organizational myth is also emphasized. Analysis of examples of organizational mythologies is combined with methodological insights regarding the ways in which myths and archetypes can be studied in different organizational contexts. The study not only aims to improve comprehension of key assumptions, theories and concepts involved in studying organizational mythologies, but also to enhance the ability to apply this method of organizational analysis.

Wprowadzenie. Materiały i metody. Zastosowano autorski Kwestionariusz Wybranych Mitów Rodzicielskich. W dobrowolnych, anonimowych badaniach wzięło udział 1217 matek (18-55 lat; M = 33; SD = 6) przynajmniej jednego dziecka w wieku 1-10 lat. Wyniki. Badane kobiety w umiarkowanym stopniu kierowały się mitami wychowawczymi w swoich przekonaniach oraz deklarowanych zachowaniach. Zmienne socjodemograficzne miały marginalny wpływ na wyniki. Wnioski. Podstawy popularności mitów rodzicielskich odniesiono do specyfiki myślenia potocznego. Rezultaty badania omówiono w kontekście analogicznych sposobów myślenia o dzieciach matek w Chinach oraz konsekwencji spadku dzietności w Polsce i wzrostu liczby jedynaków w rodzinach.
Introduction. The article is based on the concept of parenting myths by Janusz Trempała (2010) and concerns two of them – that the child is the most important in the world, so it should be given the best and that the parent is responsible for ensuring a happy childhood for the child. Aim. The aim of the research was to determine the degree of intensity of maternal beliefs and declared behaviours that result from being guided by parenting myths, as well as to identify socio-demographic variables that are important for beliefs and behaviours. Materials and methods. The author’s own Questionnaire of Selected Parental Myths was used. 1217 mothers (aged 18–55; M = 33; SD = 6) of at least one child aged 1–10 participated in the voluntary, anonymous study. Results. The participating women were moderately guided by educational myths in their beliefs and declared behaviours. Socio-demographic variables had a marginal impact on the results. Conclusion. The popularity of parental myths was related to the specificity of colloquial thinking. The results of the study are discussed in the context of analogous ways of thinking about children of mothers in China, and also the consequences of the decline in fertility in Poland and the increase in the number of one-child families.
