Opis:
Starting from the difficulties in the reception of the Council’s teaching on the liturgy and its implementation, this article points to the need to discover the paschal mystery of Christ in the Eucharist. Because of the biblical and patristic-liturgical renewal and the re-emphasis on “mystery” in the twentieth century, the article introduces the concept of mystery in pagan cults and in the Church of the first centuries. The second part of the article, based John Paul II’s teaching on the Eucharist, shows the spiritual attitude towards the paschal mystery of Christ in the celebration of the Eucharist and considers the components of this attitude. At the same time, he takes into account signs and symbols and their functions in the interiorization of this mystery.

The paper is focused on the mystery of the passion of Jesus Christ performed in Budzewo, in the Most Sacred Trinity Parish of Budry, in 2002-2011. The undertaken considerations start with elucidating the meaning of mystery, then present the Lord’s Passion in Budzewo, which is still inspiring for many artists. The author shows that the mystery contains not only informative power, but also that of education.

Opis:
While the approach of the classical philosophy draws attention to the things that exist and to the entities we can discern, the contemporary philosophy tends to emphasise the absence of the being and the impossibility to cognise it. Therefore, the classic theory can fully confirm that potius est esse quam non-esse, yet nowadays it seems that the opposite is true: potius est non-esse quam esse. It appears, we would miss one transcendental characteristic of the being, the one which refers to the opposite of the being, to what is not yet known, or in extreme case, does not exist, namely, the transcendental character of the “mystery”. This article presents the being as a mystery and the bipolar structure of all the beings created by God. This allows to indicate the consequences of such understanding of the being, especially for the relationship between philosophy and theology. For this purpose, the paper has been divided into three parts. First, we clarify what is meant by the being as a mystery. Then, knowing that being refers to the truth, we analyse the relationship between the truth and the mystery. Finally, we are able to describe the human vocation to participate in the mystery and we may perceive the faith, the prayer and the liturgy as the three ways to enter the mystery and to open ourselves to the knowledge of the truth.

In 1914, the year World War I broke out, Adolf Reinach, one of Edmund Husserl’s most notable students, a teacher and mentor of the young generation of phenomenologists, abandoned his work at the university and enlisted in the army. At the front, as a result of various experiences, he went through a vehement turn to religion. He left traces of his conversion in the notes about the religious act he made most probably while in the trenches. In them, Reinach conducted a thorough analysis of the human encounter with the Absolute, discussing the conditions for the opening up of the finite being to infinity and the detailed structure of the religious act. The latter, according to the phenomenologist, is constituted in the feeling consisting in the sense of dependence and safety experienced in the presence of God and the response to it, the sense of gratitude and trust. The conclusion of the whole act is the moment of affirmation of the human being who “in” God finds peace and happiness, not desiring to aspire to or strive for anything else.

Opis:
This paper presents three attempts of grasping the relations between faith and reason made by M. Heller, J. Tischner and K. Tarnowski. Reason and faith are two foundations for human desire to understand the world. Without them, no attempts to understand can take place. As Heller points out, both of them, due to cooperation, support development and help to eliminate dangerous simplifications. Faith, or more precisely – religious thinking – is, as J. Tischner famously argued, a condition for dialogue, for being open to others and community. Faith gives strength and courage, supports the search for existing (although very often unconscious) ties that bonds people. Faith allows us to discover the meaning and purpose of our lives. K. Tarnowski goes even further and claims, that faith reveals “the surplus” of meaning, which invites us to investigate what is impossible to express- the Mystery. Only in the face of Mystery, by a communion with the Other, can we feel that the presence of the Other is important for our existence. The three philosophers from Krakow emphasized in their works, that the relations between faith and reason, although connected and supplementing themselves, require much attention from both scientists, who create rational models of reality, and theologians, who aim to create a coherent vision linking these two aspects of human world.

Jednym z piewców misterium Bożego Narodzenia był papież, św. Leon Wielki.
Pope Leo the Great left a rich patrimony of letters and sermons, which were created as a result of his constant pastoral care for the community of Rome and for all the churches. The preserved collection contains about a hundred of sermons and about one hundred and fifty letters, all written in Latin. Among his sermons the ones that interest us the most are: on the Feast of the Nativity (11 sermons) and on the Feast of the Epiphany (8 sermons). On the basis of these source texts an attempt to elaborate on the main thoughts concerning the mystery of the Nativity is made. First the spiritual fruits of the Mystery of Incarnation are discussed, then the Divine Mercy and lastly – the approach of the faithful to the mystery of the Lord’s Nativity. Pope Leo summarises his teachings in the following way: “If we have recourse to that unutterable condescension of the Divine Mercy, whereby the Creator of men deigned to become man, by it we shall be raised to the nature of Him whom we adore in ours” (Sermon VIII on the Nativity).

One of the greatest problems modern religious education struggles with is the decreasing participation in the sacramental life of ever greater number of Catholics. It seems that the only antidote to this situation may be an in-depth mystagogic catechesis that will help overcome the magic and superficial perception of liturgy. In the present article an attempt is undertaken to synthetically define the very reality of mystagogy, and the two basic notions, on which it is based, that is „symbol” and „mystery”, are subjected to analysis. A proper understanding of these terms are necessary to work out a modern conception of mystagogic catechesis.

In the Turkish language a ‘secret’ is: giz, gizlilik, sır. What is hidden and implicit is described by some adjectives: gizli, sırlı – esrarlı, esrârengiz, gizli. The meaning of ‘hide’ or ‘not to disclose’ is reflected in some verbs like gizlemek, sırrolmak, and expressions and phrases. The analysis of vocabulary related to ‘mystery/ secret’, as well as its confidentiality or disclosure, indicates that the secret is most often revealed, which means someone talks about what it represented. On the other hand, keeping something secret does not necessarily refer to verbal human activity (hide, not show, not explain). Proverbs, defined as the words of the ancestors (atasözleri) contain a set of orders and instructions on how to / how not to proceed in a given situation. The analysis of the proverbs relating to ‘secrets’ shows that: 1. A secret should be kept even at the cost of losing one’s life; 2. Secrets should not be revealed even to one’s closest friends; 3. When one person says something, it is known by all; 4. Only from a child can one learn the truth; 5. The longer one talks, the more information one may gain. ‘Secrets’ and (not) keeping them involves skills that only humans possess, namely speech. Just as oral transmission enables us to capture and transmit knowledge and culture, so it enables others to learn the secrets that should be kept secret.

Abstract: The human being meets the idea of infinity very early, still a child, when he  realises that he can go on counting using  natural numbers until it is impossible to continue to count. The idea of infinity attracts and rejects, sometimes becomes an  object of desire and sometimes of study and systematic research. Infinity is the testimony that intellect, even starting from experience, can overcome limits and boundaries. Our own limited experience on the Earth suggests the existence of something beyond it. Scientists, artists, philosophers, musicians, writers, mathematicians have often assumed towards this concept positions and opinions sensitively different. Infinity would be, by its etymology and nature, what escapes all possible classification and measurement, while mathematics tends to classify and measure every object it examines, and  has been able to measure it. Infinity follows us from primary school until university, but often remains a misunderstood concept in the mathematical sense.

Opis:
The following article is an attempt to demonstrate Dostoyevsky’s philosophy of man. In this framework two categories seems most important: ambivalence and mystery. The picture of a man in Dostoyevsky’s novels is full of ambiguities, contradictories, paradoxes and – seeming – lack of logical senses. There is no total definition of a man, because he’s a big enigma. A man is not a monolith, he contains full of different existential and psychological areas. A man doesn’t have any ontological score, which would can to name and to determine him – particular, to name and to determine him unambiguously and permanently. An existence is a task. Can this diversity in a man integrated? Can the mystery of a man illuminate? It seems that Dostoyevsky sees only one solution: the Christianity.

Opis:
The mystery nature of liturgy issues from the mystery nature of God’s Revelation that has its height in Jesus Christ. It is in liturgy that Christ’s salutary mystery is actualized. Owing to this, man can participate in Christ’s mystery, and the very mystery achieves its aim. The mystery nature of liturgical celebration is fulfilled in its being a reorientation of Christian life to the mystery of Christ and to participating in it. The mystery character of celebration is also warranted owing to its five dynamisms: remembrance, participation, presence and action of the Holy Spirit, and in consequence the presence and action of Christ-the Church, and reference to the heavenly liturgy. Owing to these dynamisms liturgy is not just educating people and cheering up their hearts, but it is supposed to become the meaning of their lives, an impersonated adoration. The truth about the mystery nature of liturgy is confirmed in the Church’s Tradition and teaching, as well as in the post-Caselian liturgical theology that achieves its most mature form in the Roman school. The mystery character of liturgy should be constantly discovered and emphasized both in ars celebrandi and in ars participandi of liturgy. It consists in the concentration of the Person of Jesus Christ and on the attitude of adoration. If liturgy in its mystery character is a continuation of the mystery of Jesus Christ by its actualization, the care for the mystery character of liturgy is the care for the growth of God’s Kingdom until its fulfillment in the Heavenly Kingdom. Also its language results from the mystery nature of liturgy. The proper and the only permissible language of liturgical celebration is the symbol and the sign, whose special kind is the uttered word.

Thus, this ancient painting is paradoxically still an open work, whose meaning will never be definitive.

The article develops some reflections on the “theological” knowledge of God, conditions of its possibility, its nature, its tools, and its limits. The theological knowledge of God is that which springs from his free self-communication, and is therefore distinct, without being separated from it, from «natural» knowledge. In the first place, the article presents the theological concept of Mystery and then reflects the limits and models of the theological language on God; at the end he deepens the idea of analogy, as a Christian rule of language on God. The Christian conscience of God is not only knowledge of absolute Being, but also and properly of personal and interpersonal Being in dialogue with us. Personal knowledge certainly has a conceptual moment, as it is a strictly human knowledge, but also and above all an a-conceptual depth, as it is based on sympathy or more deeply on “connaturality” (Latin connaturalitas, to use the term of St. Thomas), which indicates a moment of free choice (basically reciprocal), and on the presence of the “You” as the reality of our life. Every theological language presupposes a religious experience as a personal encounter with the God of faith, incomprehensible and ineffable.

The article seeks to analyze the portrayal of the Jews in two plays from the Chester mystery cycle: “Trial and Flagellation” and “The Passion.” The analysis acknowledges that the cycle is a mixture of, and a dialogue between, the universal standpoint emerging from the presentation of the biblical story of humankind and a contemporary perspective, pertaining to the reality of the viewers. Therefore, while pointing to the unique formal and structural uniformity of the cycle, which strengthens the idea of continuity between the Old and the New Covenant and the role of the Israelites in the history of salvation, it also recognizes the potential of the plays to engage in the current stereotypes. The article examines how the Gospel account of Christ’s trial and death is modified through presenting the Jews as torturers, whitewashing the non-Jewish characters, and placing special emphasis on the question of Jewish ignorance. It is demonstrated how different theological and popular stances concerning the Jewish people are merged and reconciled in the Chester representation of the passion of Christ and it is argued that the plays in question retell the biblical story in such a way that the justification for the expulsion of the Jews from England could be derived from it.

The Apocryphal tale of Judith describes the story of the encounter between the Assyrians and the Jews, who managed to overcome the enemy through the faith and strength of Judith. The Book is rich in historical and geographical details but the general historical stage is false or more likely intentionally modified. The reason of this modification may be the creation of a pseudo-historical reality with the purpose to make an impression of a timeless lesson. But with the course of time this symbolic role of this artistical device is slackening so that the process of decoding advances to the forefront.
