This paper presents some remarks on the album edited last year Cztery pory roku (The Four Seasons). There are two reasons for the immense significance of the album: excellent performance by famous artists and rich essence that together mould the children’s world of values. The lyrics on the album are taken from Śpiewnik dla dzieci op. 34 (Songbook for children op. 34) written by Zygmunt Noskowski and Maria Konopnicka. This songbook was very popular but now it is absolutely forgotten, so it is valuable that the album reminds this great Polish heritage.

This paper is based on an analysis that compares some texts devoted to music taken from Łukasz Górnicki’s “Dworzanin polski” (1566) and Baldassarr Castiglione’s “Il libro del Cortigiano” (1528). The purpose of this comparison is to show the relationship of the works under study with the broad philosophical and literary tradition of the sixteenth century. It also seeks to answer the question about the function played by music and musical education in the image of a perfect courtier.

SYLLABUSES IN ARTISTIC HIGHER EDUCATION
Opis:
Basing on the analysis of documents and deeds the author of this work depicts efforts of the Ministry of Education to meet the demand for elementary and general high school music teachers in the years 1950-1960. This challenge was taken up by the public advanced music schooling in cooperation with the Ministry of Culture and Art. In 1957 they organized a B section for working teachers, at IV Teachers' Training Faculties of advanced music schools and Academies. The beginnings of music teachers' training in the system of extra mural studies has been presented in terms of the goals which were set and achieved and conflicts resulting from inconsistence of syllabuses as well as from preferential approach to music teachers who both worked and studied. All of the presentation has been supported by experiences gained by the advanced music schooling in the years after 1945.

The aim of the experimental research was to answer the question of whether it was possible to effectively stimulate perfect pitch abilities in children at early school age. An experimental ear training program with the use of the absolute method was directed onto children in year one of music school. The effects of the stimulation were applied to two control groups trained by using the relative mFollowing the study, it was found that: perfect pitch can be shaped in a conscious way; the ability develops primarily in early childhood; the process of forming the capacity for absolute hearing begins with memorizing the seven standard pitches of the diatonic scale of C major. The research also confi rmed a high attractiveness of perfect pitch for professional musicians and proved that the ability to consciously stimulate the capacity for absolute hearing in children aged 7–8 years speaks for the use of the absolute method in the initial stage of studies in music schools.

After some preliminary observations about Europe of regions, this article discuses aspects of music and music education under the viewpoint of interregional cultural interaction and history. The focus is on the situation in Luxembourg. The influence wielded by the neighboring regions is considered in relation to (1) the close proximity bringing together germanophone and francophone (Wallonia, i.e. the French speaking part of Belgium and France) traditions; and in relation to (2) the development of the grand duchy and its stately independence starting in 1815. Furthermore, the author examines the cultural shift initiated by the migration of Italian and Portuguese families at the end of the 19th century and its influence on musical life and music education in Luxembourg.

Opis:
The concept of diversity entails the development of strategies that capitalize on the diverse cultural potential of the members of a heterogeneous group and explores that potential in a constructive way. In principle, this might be a good idea but it runs the risk of binding cultural potentials within so-called multicultural (learners) groups (of pupils) to their origins/descents, thus strengthening positive racism. In contrast, the new concept of identity operates in terms of a plural or fragmented self, or a patchwork biography, in which the individual is no longer bound by the predetermined factors of one’s identity, such as gender, place of residence, profession of parents or origin/descent. Rather, one has to solve the task of constructing one’s identity over and over again throughout one’s whole life, balancing and integrating different senses of cultural belonging. This article presents both concepts referring to multicultural learners/learning groups. It also discusses whether the theoretical base of diversity and identity rule themselves out in the end or whether there are common assumptions, which reflects the precepts of intercultural music education.

Opis:
Music education through audiation consists of two processes: 1) informal direction developing subjective sense of tonality and meter, which takes place at home and nursery on the basis of intuition and learning how to audiate things; 2) formal teaching in school in order to develop a sense of objective tonality and meter, in which the emphasis is on understanding and mastering of how things should be audiated. Aesthetics is a general theory of art, a science of: 1) social and psychological sources of the formation of art and views on it; 2) social function of art and its development; 3) evaluation criteria for items in terms of their beauty; 4) historical development of the criteria of beauty. The article poses the question of whether music education is based on the assumptions of the theory of learning music by Gordon combined with aesthetic education in terms of Lissa. The purpose of music education and art education is to develop interests and needs of one’s own experience of artistic expression in an imitative and creative activity in various forms. There were attempts of showing that aesthetic education is a natural consequence of implementation of music education based on learning theory and it was suggested to combine learning theory with aesthetic music education due to a common area of interest – dealing with the so-called aesthetic situations, and in the framework of the creator, the creative process, the work of art, listener, process, perception of art and aesthetic values. Remarks by Gordon and Lissa are consistent, intriguing and useful to create a music curriculum.

Opis:
One of the biggest challenges in Poland (1918-1939) was the establishment of a new Polish school. The main goal of the newly created Polish school was to educate a generation as patriots and responsible citizens, and unite compatriots from three ex-partitions. The first school curriculum in the independent Poland focused on teaching social knowledge, Polish and European cultures, and, above all, providing pupils with moral and aesthetic experience. Music education played a key role in bringing various ideological objectives to fruition. Music compositions with national themes – both from concert and folk traditions – were worshipped and seen as the rebirth of the national culture. The goal of music instruction was to educate the young generation, bring it closer to the ideas embedded in the masterpieces of art, and deepen their love of music.

The article is a kind of report on my own questionnaire survey concerning the problem of implementation of curricular contents of the Music handbook, the use of which was obligatory in Polish educational system at the turn of the 20th and 21st century. The basis for analysis were: curricular contents of selected handbooks for primary schools (forms 4–6) and secondary schools (gymnasia) (forms 1–3), Acts of the law of 1999 concerning reform of the system of education, curricular basis for the subject Music at the second and third stages of the educational level and results of my own research carried out in 2011 in selected Polish towns and cities, e.g. Kraków, ód, Pozna, Warszawa, Wrocaw and in the rural areas of the country. Their purpose was to determine quality and effectiveness of teaching the subject Music in schools. The answers provided by 368 respondents and analysis of documents allowed to determine a number of difficulties in conductive effective implementation of the curricular contents. They are, e.g. too small number of hours assigned to teaching the subject Music, diversified degree and musical ability and skills of the pupils, school equipment which was incompatible with the requirements of the curricular basis, etc.

Opis:
The purpose of this article is the presentation of the results of the research conducted in Poland on the effectiveness of music education realised in accordance with the assumptions of Edwin Elias Gordon’s Theory of Music Learning, which holds an important place in the existing systems of common music education. Gordon pays attention to the need of undertaking the earliest possible music interactions when it comes to children. Some observations conducted among pregnant women and infants during music activities being realised in accordance with the assumptions of Gordon’s theory showed that infants display some reactions indicating the recognition of the music presented before the birth. They also demonstrated that these children reacted to music earlier than the infants who were not musically stimulated in their prenatal period. The experimental research conducted among children at pre-school age and early-school age proved greater, compared to the traditional methods, effectiveness of the interactions resulting from Gordon’s Theory of Music Learning in the development of their music aptitudes and musical achievements. Moreover, they also proved that the stimulation of music aptitudes contributes to the development of children’s perceptive-motor functions especially in the context of developmental shortages compensation. Other research confirmed the validity of E.E. Gordon’s thesis about the existing relation between instrument timbre preference and the achievements in playing them.

The aim of this paper is to present latest studies on absolute pitch conducted over the past ten years. The author respectively discusses: results of the research on the origins of absolute pitch, relationship between absolute pitch and musical skills, dependence of the development of absolute pitch on applied aural training methods, anatomical and neural foundations of this ability, as well as infl uence of absolute pitch on the progress of other cognitive abilities. In conclusion the author submits: the key causes for the development of absolute pitch ability lay in innate predispositions (either genetic or stimulated in the prenatal period) — which manifest themselves in the asymmetry between left and right planum temporale — as well as in skills acquired by early musical practice combined with absolute method of ear training. It appears that using tonal languages is benefi cial for the development of absolute pitch. It has been proven that the ability of absolute pitch correlates with profi ciency in performing musical tasks. Examining brains of people with absolute hearing abilities shows that they have better developed circumferential networks, grey matter, greater thickness of cerebral cortex and improved white matter connectivity, what results in more effi cient networking between various areas of brain, better „small-world” functional networking and memory. Ability of absolute pitch can be understood as a phenomenon of unique perceptual enhancement, useful for the examination of brain plasticity.

Ponieważ przykłady biznesowej działalności dotyczą usług edukacyjnych, więc w artykule opisano mentalność członków społeczeństwa informacyjnego i szczególną wartość edukacji w takim społeczeństwie. Jako główne ilustracje wspomnianych usług w branży muzycznej przedstawiono przykłady szkół muzycznych Yamaha i ośrodków muzycznych kształcących metodą Suzuki.
