Opis:
Modern technologies, such as motion capture systems (both optical and markerless), are more and more frequently used for athlete performance analysis due to their great precision. Optical systems based on the retro-reflective markers allow for tracking motion of multiple objects of various types. These systems compute human kinetic and kinematic parameters based on biomechanical models. Tracking additional objects like a tennis racket is also a very important aspect for analysing the player’s technique and precision. The motion data gathered by motion capture systems may be used for analysing various aspects that may not be recognised by the human eye or a video camera. This paper presents algorithms for analysis of a tennis racket motion during two of the most important tennis strokes: forehand and backhand. An optical Vicon system was used for obtaining the motion data which was the input for the algorithms. They indicate: the velocity of a tennis racket’s head and the racket’s handle based on the trajectories of attached markers as well as the racket’s orientation. The algorithms were implemented and tested on the data obtained from a professional trainer who participated in the research and performed a series of ten strikes, separately for: 1) forehand without a ball, 2) backhand without a ball, 3) forehand with a ball and 4) backhand with a ball. The computed parameters are gathered in tables and visualised in a graph.

Opis:
The starting point for considering the means of creating and designing a film space in Romanian New Wave cinema is the thesis that Romanian film art in the 21st century is an artistic response to the times of communism and that images of the post-socialist architectural space – their multi-faceted functionalization in film mise-en-scéne – are the key method of evoking memories of the past. The article discusses, via the example of movies by Crisitian Mungiu, Corneliu Porumboiu and Cristi Puiu, (1) ways of depicting the “closing” of film characters in the cramped interiors of their apartments and (2) film images of individuals’ alienation in public spaces, both of them allusively referring to the times of the oppressive Nicolae Ceaușescu regime. The most important cinematographic devices used bythe authors of the Romanian New Wave cinema include: seemingly static shots, which, however, are filmed with a camera that is constantly gently moving and observing, and tableau shots. A common feature of all the considered works is the panopticism of the film world: the private and public spaces designed in them easily become a place of constant, panoptical observation. In the summary, theauthor remarks on and briefly discusses the coexistence of the aesthetics of minimalism / realism with the melodramatic elements in the cinematic structure of Romanian New Wave films.

Accelerometry offers a practical and low cost method of objectively monitoring human movements, and has particular applicability to the monitoring of free-living subjects. The main objective of the paper is comparsion of acceleration in four different body position during spinning.

Opis:
The aim of this study was to investigate four sources of implied motion in static images (a moving object as the source of implied motion, hand movements of the image creator as the source of implied motion, past experiences of the observer as the source of implied motion, and fictive movement of a point across an image as the source of implied motion). In the experiment of the study, participants orally described 16 static images that appeared on the screen of a computer. The aim was to find whether participants had used any motion-related word to describe each image. It was assumed that using motion-related words to describe a static image was an indication that the image had created a sense of motion for the observer. These results indicated that all four types of implied motion could create a significant sense of motion for the observer. Based on these results, it is suggested that observing these images could lead to simulating the actions involved in those motion events and the activation of the motor system. Finally, it is proposed that the three characteristics of being rule-based (clearly-defined), continuous, and gradual are critical in perceiving that image as a fictive motion.

The development of science and technology brings about many advantages for human beings, yet it also creates a risk for their health and correct growth, including problems with right posture among children. The fast pace of life, an increasing number of tasks in- and outside of school, lack of physical activity, bad dietary habits and permanent compression of vertebrae are the main factors responsible for posture problems among child and teenager groups. The ages between 7 and 10 seem to be a critical period for forming the body position and it is connected with changing children’s daily learning routine (from free and loose activity to a few-hour sitting position at school). In effect, about 60% of children suffer from postural problems. This percentage has a rising tendency as such problems increase with age. The prevention and treatment of consequent disorders is based e.g. on physical exercise during corrective gymnastic classes, where a number of new technology solutions to improve standard and quality of such classes are used, e.g. motion sensors (Microsoft Kinect). This articleconnects corrective exercises with motion-control-based computer games. This approach uses the natural interest of children for interactive games to improve their engagement in corrective exercises. This new form of health-related activity packed in a “computer driven case” is a real chance to make corrective exercises more children-friendly and thus to stimulate children’s motivation to actively participate in them.

Non-pedal forms of locomotion show their advantages in inspection techniques or applications to the medical technology for diagnostic systems and minimally invasive surgery. Observing the locomotion of worms, one recognizes conversion of (mostly periodic) internal and internally driven motions into a change in the external position (undulatory locomotion). This paper presents some theoretical and practical investigations of worm-like motion systems that have the earthworm as a live prototype. The locomotion of worms can be described by introduction of nonlinear non-symmetric frictional forces. In the first part of the paper these systems are modelled in form of straight chains of interconnected mass points. The ground contact can be described by non-symmetric dry friction. The investigations are concentrated on motion in a tube or channel, and on motion on a horizontal pIane as well. In both cases, the body is modeled as a viscous Newtonian fluid. The effect of the mass flow through a cross section on the disturbance and material parameters (viscosity, dimensions) is discussed. The paper presents first prototyp es of technically implemented artificial worms.
Taki rodzaj transportu opisano poprzez wprowadzenie do modelu matematycznego nieliniowej i niesymetrycznej charakterystyki tarcia.

Opis:
Compared with standard vessels, a slender catamaran with a semi-submerged bow (SSB) demonstrates superior seakeeping performance. To predict the motion of an SSB catamaran, computational fluid dynamics methods are adopted in this study and results are validated through small-scale model tests. The pitch, heave, and vertical acceleration are calculated at various wavelengths and speeds. Based on the overset grid and motion region methods, this study obtains the motion responses of an SSB catamaran in regular head waves. The results of the numerical studies are validated with the experimental data and show that the overset grid method is more accurate in predicting the motion of an SSB catamaran; the errors can be controlled within 20%. The movement data in regular waves shows that at a constant speed, the motion response initially increases and then decreases with increasing wavelength. This motion response peak is due to the encountering frequency being close to the natural frequency. Under identical sea conditions, the motion response increases with the increasing Froude number. The motion prediction results, that derive from a shortterm irregular sea state, show that there is an optimal speed range that can effectively reduce the amplitude of motion.

As more applied science researchers are attempting to use Stochastic Differential Equations (SDEs) as well as Stochastic Partial Differential Equations (SPDEs) in their modeling, especially when involving Fractional Brownian Motion (fBM), one common issue appears: an exact solution cannot always be found. For cases involving SPDEs, exact solutions commonly do not exist and approximation schemes for their solution are typically still in development. Therefore, in this paper, we test various Numerical methods in solving SDEs and SPDEs with standard BM that have non-linear coeffi cients. In addition we extend our results to problems with fBM.

The Yang's spear turning-stab was a legendary technique, applied in ancient battles in China. It resulted in numerous famous winnings. The mythical aspect of the technique is a victory in fleeing and back-facing a fighter. Now the skill is a spear technique of Chinese martial arts that is learned and excised by many Chinese Gungfu practitioners. Due to a dearth of scientific study on the skill, the uniqueness and its winning secretes are still unknown. The aim of this study is to demystify the skill by using a synchronized measurement of 3D motion capture (VICON 12 camera system), stab-force measurement (AMTI force platform). Six Gungfu athletes with more than 30 years training experience participated in the study. Both the Yang's spear turning-stab (used by a fleer) and spear forward-stab (used by a chaser) were measured and biomechanically analyzed. The results reveal that there would be six secrets for its historical successes. They are 1) showing weakness (i.e. pretend to be defeated), 2) shortening the stab for quick turning, 3) hiding the stab for a covert attack, 4) leaving less reaction time for opponent, 5) generating higher stab-force than opponent, and 6) leaning backward for a stable stab-posture. These secrets identify elements necessary for systematic training toward a reliable execution of the skill. This skill shows the delicate characteristics of Chinese martial culture. Learning and training the skill would benefit trainees both physically and culturally.

The article is a meta-study and provides an original typology of research on film and religion, based on Polish and English academic sources. The author proposes to divide this field of research into four main domains, which he names successively: substantial-theological, anthropological-mythological, socio-cultural and post-secular. The following descriptive criteria were used to introduce this division: the relationship between religion and culture adopted (usually implicitly) in a given direction of research, the concept of both human and religion emerging from them, and the established subject and scope of research, as well as the basic set of tools used within them. The proposed systematic is intended to help capture the significant differences between the main types of research on film and religion, both in terms of research assumptions, methods of analysis, and set goals.

This paper presents the dynamically consistent Jacobian inverse for non-holonomic robotic system, and its application to solving the motion planning problem. The system’s kinematics are represented by a driftless control system, and defined in terms of its input-output map in accordance with the endogenous configuration space approach. The dynamically consistent Jacobian inverse (DCJI) has been introduced by means of a Riemannian metric in the endogenous configuration space, exploiting the reduced inertia matrix of the system’s dynamics. The consistency condition is formulated as the commutativity property of a diagram of maps. Singular configurations of DCJI are studied, and shown to coincide with the kinematic singularities. A parametric form of DCJI is derived, and used for solving example motion planning problems for the trident snake mobile robot. Some advantages in performance of DCJI in comparison to the Jacobian pseudoinverse are discovered.

This article presents a study on the postural equilibrium conditions for biped robots. Criteria for dynamic walking, such as ZMP and CoP are introduced and their similarities discussed. We also introduce the effects of a compliant foot and take them into consideration during the evaluation of the criteria. A model of a planar biped is used to imitate the movements of a human subject as recorded by the VICON motion capture system. In order to estimate the criteria, body segments accelerations and ground reaction forces are needed. ZMP and CoP are analyzed during both single and double support phases for the model’s motion. A linear shift function is used to transport the load of the biped between the supporting legs during the double support phase. We compare simulated CoP trajectories obtained using a rigid foot and a compliant, deformable spring-damper system located between the ankle joint and the sole of the foot. It is seen that the foot’s deformation smoothes the CoP trajectory and improves the biped’s stability.

In this paper we consider dynamics of floating particles, which have rotational oscillations in acoustic field. This novel phenomena produces additional sound attenuation due to viscous damping. In the present paper this effect is analytically described. The expression for sound attenuation in suspensions of such particles and estimations of the value of the effect are obtained, and possible applications are discussed.

Opis:
In the paper, a formula for calculation of the jerk of a point moving along a space curve is derived. Such a formula is needed for control of motion to calculate jerks (second derivatives of the velocity) by axes of motion. On the basis of this formula, an expression for the maximum admissible velocity on the space curve to satisfy limitation by the jerk is given as well. Such a requirement also arises in the motion control.

Opis:
This study used stick model augmentation on single-camera motion video to create a markerless motion classification model of manual operations. All videos were augmented with a stick model composed of keypoints and lines by using the programming model, which later incorporated the COCO dataset, OpenCV and OpenPose modules to estimate the coordinates and body joints. The stick model data included the initial velocity, cumulative velocity, and acceleration for each body joint. The extracted motion vector data were normalized using three different techniques, and the resulting datasets were subjected to eight classifiers. The experiment involved four distinct motion sequences performed by eight participants. The random forest classifier performed the best in terms of accuracy in recorded data classification in its min-max normalized dataset. This classifier also obtained a score of 81.80% for the dataset before random subsampling and a score of 92.37% for the resampled dataset. Meanwhile, the random subsampling method dramatically improved classification accuracy by removing noise data and replacing them with replicated instances to balance the class. This research advances methodological and applied knowledge on the capture and classification of human motion using a single camera view.

Opis:
The paper proposes solution for two important issues connected to navigation of independent mobile platforms in an unknown environment. First issue relates to obstacle map, estimated based on stereovision images. It provides a basis for further platform path-planning. The main problem that has to be solved in obstacle map derivation is elimination of artifacts resulting from depth estimation. Thus a two-step artifact filtering procedure is proposed, which exploits both within-frame spatial correlations as well as temporal, between-frame correlations to do this task. Second procedure, based on well-known Lees algorithm is designed for obtaining vehicle collisionless path. Such routes need to be updated on-the-fly to take into account moving obstacles or newly detected objects. The main idea of the proposed approach is to identify regions where environment has changed and to execute a procedure of selective path updates. As a result, an optimal path can be derived at a computational expense comparable to the heuristic Lifelong A* search. Experiment results demonstrate efficiency of the two discussed approaches for platform operation control in real environments, where both static and moving obstacles are present.

Lexicalisation of vertical motion: A study of three satellite-framed languagesThis article presents a comparison of the description of motion in three satellite-framed languages, namely in Polish, Russian and English. More specifically, the lexicalisation patterns of horizontal and vertical motion are compared on the basis of elicitation data. The study highlights the divergent patterns of the lexicalisation of motion along these two planes in the three languages. Besides a description of the motion verbs coding these relations, the linguistic and non-linguistic factors influencing the lexicalisation patterns of motion are discussed. Leksykalizacja ruchu wertykalnego w polskim, rosyjskim i angielskimArtykuł przedstawia porównanie sposobów leksykalizacji ruchu w trzech językach z tzw. „ramą towarzyszącą" - w języku polskim, rosyjskim oraz angielskim. Na podstawie danych uzyskanych od respondentów porównane zostały wzory leksykalizacji ruchu horyzontalnego i wertykalnego w tych trzech językach. Wyniki wskazują na różne wzorce leksykalizacji ruchu horyzontalnego i wertykalnego. W artykule omówiono czynniki zarówno językowe jak i niejęzykowe wpływające na wzorce leksykalizacji ruchu wertykalnego.

Opis:
When cameras are used in aerial photography, satellite imaging or other scenes, the motion of the observational target causes image blur. The corresponding motion compensation systems often present some response delay. Thus, we introduce effective and fast motion prediction for the target to achieve steady real-time motion compensation. We first analyze the target motion states to propose a fast and robust prediction method based on the least square support vector machine algorithm. Then, we evaluate the performance between ours and other state-of-the-art methods through experiments. Experimental results confirm that the proposed method provides a fast and robust prediction for target motion. At last, we embed our method with dual-resolution camera system to perform high-quality motion compensation effect in real time.

In the light of Article 163a Paragraph 2 of the Standing Orders of the Sejm of the Republic of Poland the motion to adjourn the examination of the matter by a parliamentary committee is a procedural proposal, since it concerns the conduct of the committee that is hearing the case and does not lead to a decision on the merits. Although the rules of the Parliament don’t define the issue of “postponing” of the work of parliamentary committees, the deadline for the return to the matter should be clarified in some way. In this case the request for deferral of consideration by the committee, pending the outcome of the court. Although it does not indicate a specific date, it specifies a time of return.

Opis:
The purpose of this work is to study the effect of oil pocket shape and density on friction in reciprocating sliding. The experiments were conducted in reciprocating motion under starved lubrication conditions. Tribological tests were performed using an Optimol SRV5 tribotester. The frictional pair consisted of two discs of 42CrMo4 steel. One disc was laser textured. The oil pockets had circular and sandglass shapes. Disc samples of various texture shapes were characterized by the same pit-area ratios. The operating parameters were the same for all friction pairs. In most cases, surface texturing led to reductions in friction force value and scatter. For both dimple shapes, the best tribological properties were achieved for oil pocket density of 9%. When discs with circular dimples were tested, the highest resistance to motion was received for the highest pit-area ratio of 9%. On the contrary, the worst tribological performance of discs with sandglass-shaped oil pockets of sandglass shape were obtained for the largest oil pocket density of 22%.
