Opis:
Scientists describe the way young people (school children and university students) think today, as a fundamentally superficial, fragmentary, illogical mosaic. This mode of thinking significantly differs from the conceptual thinking specific to previous generations. Easy access to Internet content and electronic technologies induces students to plagiarize and to resign from independent action. The paper presents fragments of essays and exam tests bearing traces of Internet content manipulation. This practice is not considered as unethical by a number of students. However difficult it may seem to efficiently counteract the habit of copying and pasting material available online, it can be channeled into appropriate approaches and methods. To accommodate these recent changes in cognitive mechanisms, the educational material, and the theoretical elements which are offered to the modern pupils and students, one should intensively focus on contextualizing fragmentary information, providing records in the modernized forms such as modules, flowcharts, algorithms, and mind maps. This approach may help students overcome the inconsistency in the reception and reproduction of the information and avoid serious mistakes in their comprehension of the presented facts. The adaptation of the teaching techniques can form in students the skills of extracting the most important facts, following cause and effect relationships, and structuring the data accordingly.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to present a paradigm according to which Bosnia and Herzegovina can be seen as a mirror in which the multifaceted problems of Turkey as the ”sick person of Europe” are reflected. Contributing to the Turkish withdrawal from the Balkans, however, the Ottoman legacy characterized by political and cultural fragmentation permanently became a part of the history of the Balkans and influenced its fate in the 21st century. The author, on the basis of the studies of the American, Polish, Turkish, Bosnian, Serbian and Croatian historians examines the factors that determined the end of Ottoman rule in the Balkans. Bosnia and Herzegovina should be considered the key to the analysis of the Eastern crisis (1875-1878), which proved to be a mere preludes prelude to the end of the Ottoman Empire. The characteristic feature of this province was its permanent insubordination against Turkey, visible in a great number of revolts and uprisings of different provenance against the Turkish government. Already at the beginning of the 17th century, increasing corruption and taxes imposed on the Muslim population led to the first protests against the government. In the 17th century the great uprisings of Bosnian Muslims took place in the following years: 1636, 1650, 1682. In Herzegovina unrest and riots were reported in the following years: 1711, 1727, 1728, 1729, 1732. The Ottoman sources confirmed the occasional participation of the Christian population in those riots. On the one hand, the Muslim feudal lords, who were opposed to the reforms of the Sultan and fought to maintain their privileges, acted against the central power. On the other hand, rebellions had the character of the people’s liberation movement. The largest peasant revolt against the Muslim feudal lords from 1875 in Herzegovina rapidly evolved into the rise of Christian peasants all over Bosnia and Herzegovina, at the same time, the uprising became the South Slavic war of liberation from Turkish rule, contributing to the collapse of the Ottoman Empire.

Jednocześnie poszukuję wyjaśnień swoich wątpliwości: Jak odróżnić perspektywę dziecka od perspektywy dorosłego?, W jaki sposób w badaniach uniknąć pozycji siły i zależności pomiędzy dorosłym a dzieckiem? Opierając się na naszych spostrzeżeniach i doświadczeniach, postaram się rozstrzygnąć te dylematy, wskazując na zastosowanie podejścia mozaikowego Alison Clark w badaniach dzieci/z dziećmi.
I do research on the world of a child from a few years, trying to find the most suitable way to reach a child. The longer I do research, however, the more and more doubts: do I really come close to the child`s world? Maybe it is only an adult`s construct of a child`s reality. In this article I present my and students` experiences with research on children, which we did during the research project Innovative methods in early childhood education. I try to answer questions: who should research a child`s world? Where, and how? I respond to doubts: how to distinguish child’s perspective from an adult’s\; how to avoid the power relation in research. Using my experiences, I resolve the problem by present the Alison Clark mosaic approach in research with children.

Environmental changes affect edge populations first and the strongest. The aim of this study was to document the historical and current occurrence of the moose Alces alces L. along the western edge of its range in Poland and Europe. Our studies were conducted in central Poland, in the area of Experimental Forest Station of Warsaw University of Life Sciences (WULS) in the vicinity of Rogów village (225 km2 of field and forest mosaic, forest cover approx. 20%). We reviewed all available historical data as well as recorded direct observations. This included data collected through various methods such as drive counts, night spot-light and thermal vision counts along transect routes, snow tracking, camera-traps and pellet group counts. Occurrence of moose and changes in its abundance in the area of the Experimental Forest Station in Rogów reflected trends in the abundance of the species and in its range throughout the whole country. Currently, direct observations of moose or signs of its presence are recorded in the whole study area. However, in this very fragmented landscape, the species does not form a stable population but the observed individuals are most likely migrating from their main refugees. Signs of presence were recorded only once during drive counts and snow tracking in the central part of the study area (2011–2018) registered 0.03 moose tracks/ km/24 h. Snow tracking conducted in January and February of 2021 was focused on moose specifically and revealed the presence of 10–11 individuals in the entire study area. Pellet group counts along transects (spring 2020 and 2021) resulted in a density index of 0.33 pellet groups/km/100 days of accumulation, while data from camera-traps (2011–2020) indicated an increase in the relative abundance index. In the biggest forest complex of the study area, this index increased three fold, whereas in smaller forest complexes only two fold. Assuming that 11 individuals were present, the population density was 0.49 ind./1000 ha in terms of total area and 2.6 ind./1000 ha in terms of forest area. In the following years, a further population increase can be expected reflecting growth in the core population.

In the discussed verse 1 Macc 3:21, there are two main motivations for the struggle of Judah Maccabee and his compatriots against the Seleucid army of Antiochus IV Epiphanes. The text combines the struggle for the physical existence of Jews with the defence of native customs established on the foundations of the Mosaic Law. There is a clear indissolubility of life and faith in the Jewish consciousness. One cannot survive without one’s own religious tradition, which is the basis of national identity. This article aims to explore the meaning of the Greek adjective νόμιμος, -η, -ον, appearing in the analysed verse of the the book, as substantive (τὸ) νόμιμον, "custom" especially in the plural τὰ νόμιμα, "customs, usages, norms". This term will be presented from a theological and historical perspective in search of an answer to the question about its content and implied meaning in the speech of Judah to his countrymen before the beginning of the battle of Beth-Choron. This content will be both the justification of the struggle undertaken and its importance in the history of Israel in the middle of the 2nd century BC.

Opis:
This work discusses the results of rescue excavations in the Early Medieval row cemetery in Gołuń, the Pobiedziska Commune. 17 ares were examined, out of which the necropolis took up the area of 13.21 ares. Prehistoric and Late Medieval finds were also recorded in the cemetery. The cemetery in Gołuń is situated in the Gniezno Lake District, in an area which is pretty diversified with regard to its hypsometry. There are a few more prominent rises of terrain, and one of these, located near a small watercourse, was occupied by the examined necropolis (Fig. 1). All immovable features and finds related to the cemetery were discussed in detail in the catalogue. The catalogue is divided into two principal parts — one of which contains descriptions of graves, including those preserved in situ and destroyed, while the other iscusses the remaining features found within the necropolis: empty grave pits and bonfires. All the graves contained inhumation burials and the dead were buried directly at the bottom of grave pits (perhaps in one case the body was covered with bog soil). 42 graves in situ containing one burial in each were discovered. Further discoveries included 1 grave with the remains of 2 persons as well as bones belonging to 10 individuals, which came from destroyed graves. Almost all out of the 44 burials which were not destroyed were located along the E–W axis or with some deviation to the N and S from it, according to the alignment of the grave pits. The arrangement of skeletons from two graves (24 and 38) which are aligned along the N–E axis is at variance with this principle. Furthermore, these two graves disturb the row arrangement of the cemetery. On the other hand, one can see some sort of regularity for the cemetery in Gołuń, as women were deposited with their heads to the west and men — with their heads to the east. The anthropological analysis demonstrates that most of the dead were men (26 persons — c. 48%), while the women were buried in 14 graves (nearly 26%). Persons whose sex was not assessed constituted about 26% altogether, including children. The nature of the grave inventories (recorded in c. 61.5% of graves) and the co-occurrence of given funds were analysed (Tables 1–2). Deformations of bone materials (e.g., a successful skull trepanation was recorded) as well as the stratigraphy of this basically single-layer cemetery are also discussed. In the work an analysis of all the portable finds discovered in the cemetery was carried out. 3 groups of finds were isolated: artefacts and tools of daily use (knives — 17 items in the graves and 1 in a secondary deposit; a bronze fitting of a leather knife sheath, vessels — 4 in the graves, 1 in the top of an empty grave pit, 1 in a secondary deposit; 2 staved buckets with iron rims; 4 phyllite whetstones; 1 double fire striker; an iron hoof; a clay spindle whorl, an iron awl and 4 artefacts with unclear functions), weaponry (a Type M iron axe and two pairs of spurs belonging to Type I:2 according to Hilczerówna, including one with a pair of buckles) and ornaments (2 silver temple rings; 2 necklaces having 9 beads each — Tab. 3, including 2 mosaic beads; a bronze bell-shaped pendant) and a single find — a silver clump. Concerning other features discovered in the area of the cemetery in Gołuń, 5 features were classified as unused grave pits based on their formal traits, while one of these may have been a cenotaph (a vessel was found in the top of this feature). Another two features — bonfires, which did not disturb graves but overlapped them — are believed to have been related to post-funeral ceremonies. C14 dating (AD 985–1043, cf. Fig. 21) demonstrates that the functioning of the cemetery in Gołuń should be dated to between the late 10th and the mid-11th c. This is also coherent with the results of a typological-chronological analysis of the discovered finds: such as first of all the Type M axe (finds from Greater Poland are dated to the first half of the 11th c.), Type I iron spurs (chiefly dated to the 10th-mid-11th c. in Central and Northern Europe), and a silver bead taken from an earring of Type Świątki, which were in use from the mid- 10th to the late 11th c., or perhaps only to the mid-11th c. Two glass polyhedral mosaic beads with a few groups of “eyelets,” probably coming from Scandinavia or Rus’, are dated to about 1000 and they belong to artefacts with a more precise chronology among those found in the “Gołuń” necropolis. Both temple rings found in the cemetery are dated to between c. the mid-10th c. and the early (?) 13th c. However, their small dimensions (Variant A according to Kóčka-Krenz) rather suggest the first half of this period. Furthermore, the co-occurrence of clay vessels of the Type Menkendorf-Szczecin and Type Vipperov demonstrate that we are dealing with partially slow-wheel made forms which became obsolete and the occurrence of fully slow-wheel made vessels. Therefore, it is justified to propose the first half of the 11th c. as the chronology for the pottery finds. Phyllite whetstones have one quality which confirms the assumed chronology of the cemetery, as in the Baltic Sea zone they have been most commonly discovered among finds from the 10th–11th c. Bronze bell-shaped pendants and staved buckets with iron rims are most often recorded in Poland in necropolises dated to the 10th/11th–11th c. The remaining artefacts, such as the fire striker, the hoof, some other types of beads and the bronze fitting of the leather sheath of a knife, although having a broader chronology, are also discovered in grave inventories which are contemporary to the cemetery in Gołuń. Furthermore, the fittings of knife sheaths with extended upper parts (as it is the case with the Gołuń find) occurred already in finds from early phases in Birka. The sparse stratigraphic relations between the graves, their low number and the relatively small area of the necropolis also suggest that it was in use for a rather short period of time. The necropolis in Gołuń belongs to a type of Early Medieval row cemeteries, which were not located next to churches. It is possible to isolate two zones of this burial ground. The main one — the southern, western and northern parts — consisted of 4 rows, running from the north to the south. However, the arrangement of some parts (especially the central one) is disturbed (Fig. 5). The cemetery with such a spatial layout is adjoined from the south-east by a much smaller cluster of 17 graves (2–3 rows), some of them overlapping each other. Within these two main parts of the necropolis one could make an attempt at isolating smaller units of division. This brings some order and reveals a better spatial organization of the cemetery in Gołuń. This is a hypothetical division, as no traces of fences were recorded in the course of excavation works. When analysing the positions of the graves in the cemetery in Gołuń one can isolate as many as 10 such smaller zones/quarters, which were marked with Roman letters from I to X (Fig. 22). The central part of the necropolis in Gołuń is taken up by Quarter I, with dimensions of c. 8 × 10 m. Only 4 graves were located in it, but they stand out with regard to their grave furnishings. In an empty square which can be seen in the centre of the southern part of the cemetery in Gołuń, no remains were discovered, which could imply an existence of any structure fulfilling a role of a sacral building, e.g., a small wooden church or a cemetery chapel. On the basis of the number of discovered graves and taking the data on destroyed burials into consideration, one can suppose that the cemetery was used by a small local community for some dozen years. Among the finds which were recorded together with the burials of the dead, one’s attention is attracted to grave goods which testify to the formation of a group of warriors, related to the Early Piast monarchy — which was coming into existence at that time. There is no doubt that two women buried with necklaces composed of 9 beads each, belonged to the group of wealthier members of the community using the necropolis. The knife in a leather sheath which is fitted with a bronze sheet with rich ornamentation, which was found in Grave 30, should also be regarded as a luxurious artefact. The analysis of the Archaeological Record of Poland’s research results, demonstrated that the cemetery is situated on the edge of an area which was used in an enormously intensive manner in the Early Middle Ages. The cemetery in Gołuń was probably one of the burial grounds which were used by this broader community, inhabiting the mentioned settlements.

Opis:
Non-homologous RNA recombination is a process enabling the exchange of genetic material between various (related or unrelated) RNA-based viruses. Despite extensive investigations its molecular mechanism remains unclear. Studies on genetic recombination in brome mosaic virus (BMV) have shown that local hybridization between genomic RNAs induces frequent non-homologous crossovers. A detailed analysis of recombinant structures suggested that local complementary regions might be involved in two types of non-homologous recombination in BMV: site-specific and heteroduplex-mediated. To verify the above hypothesis and better recognize the mechanism of the phenomenon studied we have tested how the putative types of recombination are affected by a specific mutation in the BMV polymerase gene or by changes in RNA structure. The experiments undertaken revealed substantial differences between site-specific and heteroduplex-mediated recombination, indicating that they occur according to different mechanisms. The former can be classified as homology-assisted, and the latter as homology-independent. In addition to local RNA/RNA hybridization, short regions of homology are required for site-specific crossovers to occur. They are most efficiently mediated if one homologous sequence is located at the beginning of and the second just before a double-stranded region. At present it is difficult to state what is the mechanism of heteroduplex-mediated recombination. Earlier it was postulated that strong RNA/RNA interaction enforces template switching by the viral replicase. There are, however, several observations questioning this model and indicating that some other factors, which are still unknown, may influence heteroduplex-mediated crossovers.

Turnip mosaic virus (TuMV) is the most important and widespread virus infecting brassicas worldwide. In 2013, 2014, and 2015, twenty-three cabbage (Brassica oleracea L.) breeding lines from Black Sea Agricultural Research Institute (BSARI, Samsun, Turkey) were screened for their reaction to TuMV-BA isolate by mechanical inoculation under controlled conditions. On the basis of 0–5 disease rating scale and ELISA, of the lines tested, nine (39.1%) were categorized as highly resistant (Grade 1), one (4.3%) as resistant (Grade 2), seven (30.4%) as moderately resistant (Grade 3), however, two cabbage lines and four lines were found moderately susceptible and susceptible, respectively to TuMV-BA isolate under controlled conditions. The results suggested that Brassica oleracea L. from the BSARI contain valuable breeding lines resistant to TuMV, and the screened breeding lines in the current study could provide promising resistance sources for cabbage breeding.

Opis:
Barley stripe mosaic virus (BSMV) is an established and extensively used virus-induced gene silencing (VIGS) vector for gene function analysis in monocots. However, the phenotypes generated by targeted gene silencing may be affected or masked by symptoms of BSMV infection. To better understand the potential effects of BSMV-VIGS in hulless barley (Hordeum vulgare var. nudum), the accumulation pattern of BSMV and its impacts on vegetative growth and water status were investigated. The results indicated that the vegetative growth of infected plants was significantly and continuously impacted by BSMV from 10 to 40 days post inoculation (dpi). When the accumulation of BSMV was extremely high (7 to 11 dpi), infected plants displayed twisted leaf tips with an increased water lose rate (WLR) and decreased water content (WC). Virus accumulation declined and stabilized after 25 dpi, at this stage, the WLR and WC were unaffected in the infected plants. The efficiency of VIGS was tested by the silencing of Phytoene desaturase (PDS). RT-qPCR indicated that BSMV-VIGS can be sustained with good efficiency for up to 40 dpi under an altered condition with lower temperature (22 ±1°C) and higher relative humidity (70 ±10%). It was concluded that 25 to 40 dpi was the appropriate time zone for drought-related gene analysis by BSMV-VIGS under such condition.

Opis:
This study provides the first data on the occurrence of the mosaic leafh opper Orientus ishidae (Matsumura, 1902) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) in Poland. This species is native to Southeast Asia, adventive in Europe and feeds on cultivated plants. Orientus ishidae is a well-known carrier of Grapevine fl avescence doree phytoplasma which causes the grapevine yellows disease. Symptoms of phytoplasma diseases of grapevine include deformations, leaf chlorosis and withering of plants. Th e appearance of this species in Poland might be caused by observed climate variations and insuffi cient plant health controls in the international trade of plants.
