    Teaching and educational M. Montessori’s system, called also Montessori’s education or method, despite the passing years is still alternative for traditional education and works in school practice in many countries in Europe and beyond its borders. It also works in Poland. Although that system was created by M. Montessori more than a hundred years ago it is still interpreted anew. This happens because of the many undeniable advantages and special its author’s resume. The aim of this article is presenting the basic establishment of M. Montessori’s teaching and educational system and guidelines and examples of projects of practical solutions that are adaptation of the system to the conditions, challenges and tasks that polish, still reforming school is facing.

    Introduction: It is important that people who want to perform their duties in a global and uncertain reality are prepared for changes. Therefore, education can play a significant role in supporting the development of active, competent citizens. The superior task of the contemporary school is to provide an educational environment which would be a source of various experiences with the material, social and cultural world (Todd et al. 2019). The model solution in this regard is offered by the school environment organized according to Maria Montessori’s pedagogical principles. The guiding standard for such an environment is support of the individual’s potential. This is also the key rule on which the lifelong learning paradigm is based (Fleming, 2021). Research Aim: The aim of the paper is to evidence that the Montessori environment favors the development of skills necessary for lifelong learning and to verify empirically the affective significances of the educational experiences of Montessori school graduates. Method: In order to discover the emotional significance of school experiences, the partly modified Hermans’s Confrontation With Yourself method was applied (Hermans, Hermans-Jansen, 2000). Results: The educational experiences of Montessori school graduates are characterized by one type of emotional climate – strength and union (+HH) – in which the fulfilment of both basic motives of  human behavior (of self-enhancement and contact with others) evokes positive feelings. Conclusion: Montessori school former pupils possess intra- and interpersonal skills, necessary in lifelong learning. The Montessori model of education supports the development of the ability to harmonize one’s interests with the goals of other people as well as personal and social responsibility.
    Wprowadzenie: Ważne jest, aby ludzie, którzy chcą wykonywać swoje obowiązki w globalnej i niepewnej rzeczywistości, byli przygotowani na zmiany. Dlatego edukacja może odegrać znaczącą rolę we wspieraniu rozwoju aktywnych i kompetentnych obywateli. Nadrzędnym zadaniem współczesnej szkoły jest zapewnienie środowiska edukacyjnego, które byłoby źródłem różnorodnych doświadczeń, nabywanych w kontaktach ze światem materialnym, społecznym i kulturowym. Modelowym rozwiązaniem w tym zakresie jest środowisko szkolne zgodne z zasadami pedagogiki Marii Montessori. Ideą przewodnią jego organizacji jest wspieranie potencjału jednostki. Jest to również kluczowa zasada, na której opiera się paradygmat uczenia się przez całe życie. Cel badań: Celem artykułu jest wykazanie, że środowisko szkoły Montessori sprzyja rozwojowi umiejętności niezbędnych w procesie uczenia się przez całe życia oraz empiryczna weryfikacja afektywnych znaczeń doświadczeń edukacyjnych absolwentów szkoły Montessori. Metoda badań: W celu określenia afektywnych znaczeń doświadczeń szkolnych zastosowano częściowo zmodyfikowaną Metodę Konfrontacji z Sobą Huberta J.M. Hermansa. Wyniki: Doświadczenia edukacyjne absolwentów szkoły Montessori charakteryzuje jeden typ klimatu emocjonalnego – siły i jedności (+HH), w którym zaspokojenie obydwu motywów podstawowych ludzkiego działania (umacniania siebie oraz kontaktu i jedności z innymi) wywołuje uczucia pozytywne. Wnioski: Absolwenci szkoły Montessori posiadają umiejętności intra- i interpersonalne, niezbędne w procesie uczenia się przez całe życie. Model edukacji Montessori wspiera rozwój zarówno umiejętności harmonizowania własnych interesów z celami innych ludzi, jak i odpowiedzialności osobistej i społecznej.

    Po krótkim omówieniu modelu edukacji Marii Montessori (podstawy psychologiczne, zasady postępowania, cechy wyróżniające) autorka stara się zaprezentować wyczerpujący opis roli nauczyciela Montessori, zwłaszcza na poziomie szkoły elementarnej. Opracowane w tym celu ramy opisu obejmują selekcję materiałów należących do trzech źródeł: oryginalnych pism M. Montessori, materiałów wizualnych (ikonograficznych) oraz danych empirycznych z badań własnych. Każdy z wymienionych działów zbiera materiały o wysokiej jakości z intencją skoncentrowania na nich uwagi czytelnika i poddania ich szerszej refleksji z różnych punktów widzenia. Triangulacja proponowanych treści i danych jest tu postrzegana jako metoda badania złożonej, lecz fascynującej charakterystyki profilu nauczyciela, zarówno w aspekcie jego teoretycznych właściwości, jak i operacyjnych cech działania ujawnianych w kontekście procesu nauczania-uczenia się. Głównym celem analizy jest głębsze skoncentrowanie się na profilu i roli nauczyciela Montessori w szkole elementarnej, a także umożliwienie czytelnikowi samodzielnej, pogłębionej refleksji nad zagadnieniem i niezależnego formułowania własnych wniosków.
    After a brief introduction to the Montessori model of education (psychological foundations, guiding principles, distinctive features), the Author’s contribution is aimed at giving a satisfactory representation of the Montessori teacher, in particular the one dealing with learners at the elementary school stage. The framework is developed using a selection of sources belonging to three different types: Montessori’s writings, visual materials, empirical data. Each section collects specific material with the intention of bringing it to the attention of the reader, allowing wider reflection from different points of view. The triangulation of the proposed contents and data is seen as a method for considering this complex but fascinating teacher profile both in its theoretical specificities and in its operational qualities in the context in which the teaching-learning process takes place. The desired overall results should allow a greater focus on the profile and role of the Montessori teacher in the elementary school as well as giving the reader himself the opportunity to elaborate further reflections and conclusions independently.

    Dynamic changes taking place in the contemporary social reality pose new challenges for Polish schools. The necessity to depart from a deep-rooted educational tradition and a school model which does not suit the current conditions prompts the search for alternative solutions. Consequently, for several years there has been an increase in interest in various educational offers, and education in line with the assumptions of Maria Montessori’s pedagogical concept has an important place among them. The educational process realized in Montessori institutions based on the child’s activity, subjective treatment of the pupil, respect for his individual needs, abilities and interests, support for his versatile development become a catalyst for self-development, self-education and self-training, which are so much expected from the contemporary generation of students. However, the growing popularity of Montessori institutions raises the question of how much their choice is the result of parents’ rational decision and real conviction about the value of the Montessori education system. The analysis of the empirical material gathered for this study revealed the surveyed parents’ motives for selecting a kindergarten facility for their child, as well as their expectations and opinions about education in the kindergarten working on the basis of Maria Montessori pedagogy.
    Dynamiczne zmiany zachodzące we współczesnej rzeczywistości społecznej stawiają nowe wyzwania przed polskim szkolnictwem. Konieczność odejścia od głęboko zakorzenionej tradycji edukacyjnej i niedostosowanego do obecnych warunków modelu szkoły skłania do poszukiwania alternatywnych rozwiązań. W związku z tym od kilkunastu lat obserwuje się wzrost zainteresowania różnorodnymi ofertami edukacyjnymi, wśród których ważne miejsce zajmuje kształcenie zgodne z założeniami koncepcji pedagogicznej Marii Montessori.Oparcie realizowanego w placówkach montessoriańskich procesu edukacyjnego na aktywności dziecka, podmiotowe traktowanie wychowanka, respektowanie jego indywidualnych potrzeb, możliwości i zainteresowań, wspieranie jego wszechstronnego rozwoju staje się katalizatorem samorozwoju, samokształcenia i samowychowania, których tak bardzo oczekuje się od współczesnego pokolenia uczniów. Rosnąca popularność placówek montessoriańskich skłania jednak do postawienia pytania, na ile ich wybór jest efektem racjonalnej decyzji rodziców i faktycznego przekonania o wartości systemu pedagogicznego Montessori. Analiza materiału empirycznego zgromadzonego na potrzeby niniejszego opracowania ujawniła motywy, jakimi kierowali się badani rodzice, dokonując wyboru placówki przedszkolnej dla swojego dziecka, a także ich oczekiwania i opinie na temat edukacji realizowanej w przedszkolach wykorzystujących pedagogikę Marii Montessori.

    W myśl konstruktywistycznej koncepcji dydaktyki powinnością nauczyciela jest wspieranie uczniów w zdobywaniu przez nich narzędzi poznania i rozumienia świata oraz budowaniu zasobów własnej wiedzy i umiejętności. Zadaniem edukacji jest natomiast pomoc każdej jednostce w rozwija-niu zdolności w stawaniu się całościowym bytem ludzkim, a nie jedynie narzędziem dla ekonomii. Zarzutem kierowanym najczęściej w kierunku polskiej szkoły jest niewywiązywanie się z tego zada-nia, co przejawia się słabym przygotowaniem młodych ludzi do życia i pracy, do wyzwań rozwojo-wych, ale i zagrożeń współczesnego świata. Warto poszukiwać takich rozwiązań, które stworzą dzieciom i młodzieży możliwość rozwoju na miarę ich możliwości. Jednym z takich rozwiązań dysponuje pedagogika Marii Montessori, podkreślając znaczenie aktywności dziecka w procesie jego uczenia się. W artykule krótko porównano hebratyzm z nurtem „nowego wychowania”, do którego zaliczana jest pedagogika Marii Montessori, a dalsze rozważania odniesione zostały do współczesnej wiedzy o tym, jak uczy się mózg.
    In accordance with the constructivist concept of didactics, the teacher’s duty is to support students in acquiring tools for understanding the world and building resources of their own knowledge and skills. On the other hand, the task of education is to help each individual in developing his ability to become a holistic human being, not just a tool for economics. The charge directed most often towards the Polish school is failure to perform this task, which is manifested by the poor preparation of young people to live and work, to the development challenges, but also the threats of the modern world. It is worth looking for solutions that will create opportunities for children and young people to develop according to their abilities. One of such solutions has the pedagogy of Maria Montessori emphasizing the importance of the child’s activity in the process of learning. The article compared briefly the hebra-tism with the trend of “new upbringing” to which Maria Montessori’s pedagogy is included, and fur-ther considerations have been referred to the modern knowledge of how the brain is taught.

    The paper aims at recalling Maria Montessori’s essential assumptions about the child development and organization of the educational process as a basic issue considering the concept of science education. In the Montessori pedagogy, it is characterized by the form of the so-called Cosmic Education. Cosmic Education is a unique approach to work with children aged 6 to 12. Thus, the idea of Cosmic Education, the relationship between the child’s needs and the science education curriculum is elucidated. The essence of the Great and Key Lessons as centers of children’s exploration and research is discussed. The Montessorian way of learning about fundamental human needs is presented as an inspiration for school practice. The basis for collecting empirical material is the analysis of the content aiming at the current achievements within the selected topic characterization.
    Celem niniejszego artykułu jest przypomnienie głównych założeń, jakie sformułowała Maria Montessori na temat rozwoju dziecka i organizacji procesu edukacyjnego, jako punktów krytycznych w rozważaniach nad koncepcją kształcenia w zakresie poznawania środowiska społeczno-przyrodniczego. W pedagogice Montessori wskazana koncepcja przybiera postać tzw. Kosmicznej Edukacji. Kosmiczna Edukacja jest unikatowym podejściem w pracy z dziećmi w wieku od 6 do 12 lat. W artykule wyjaśniono ideę Edukacji Kosmicznej, wskazano związek między potrzebami dziecka a programem poznawania środowiska społeczno-przyrodniczego. Opisano istotę Wielkich i Kluczowych Lekcji, jako ośrodków dziecięcych badań i dociekań. Zaprezentowano także rekomendowany przez Montessori sposób poznawania przez dzieci fundamentalnych potrzeba człowieka, będący inspiracją dla praktyki szkolnej. Podstawą do zebrania materiału empirycznego była analiza treści, przeprowadzona w celu scharakteryzowania aktualnych osiągnięć w ramach wybranego tematu.

    The article presented is a qualitative analysis of the early education Freinet and Montessori teachers in relation to their educational practices in the scope of educational constructivism. Understanding constructivism as a metaphor describing process of learning, the authors outline similarities and differences in the conceptions attributed to the processes of learning between the two researched groups of teachers. The results of the analysis show the opposite “direction” of the thematizations. Freinet teachers concentrate on the techniques and then – in their narratives – outline the values related to education whereas Montessori teachers’ narratives are oriented at values and only illustrated with some technological examples. The outcomes of the analysis can be formulated in a form of provisional synthesis: The realization of constructivism in education is not connected so much with so called “active learning techniques” but rather with values, individual and shared axio-educational orientations and the quality of relations between various subjects involved in education. Such a hypothesis leads to the questioning of the tendency according to which teachers’ education should be practical. On the contrary, we claim that such a conception on teachers’ education might be an obstacle to the wide implementation of constructivism in educational practices.

    The purpose of the article is to present Maria Montessori’s pedagogy and her concepts included in contemporary integrated education which uses modern teaching technologies. Methods: The author relies on her own research and takes account of the source literature. She uses the diagnostic survey method. Results: The author analyzes the situation of early school education and the use of new technologies by teachers. Primarly, the report of her research was applied. The data analysis results show that the vast majority of teachers undertook to implement new technologies into education, but unfortunately on a rare basis, and the group that uses these devices in education most frequently and undertakes training is early school and pre-school education teachers. In addition, the author, based on the obtained research results, presented examples of educational solutions that could combine Maria Montessori’s pedagogy and new technologies. Conclusions: The purpose of the article is to present Maria Montessori’s pedagogy and her concepts included in modern integrated education which uses modern teaching technologies. Therefore, efforts were made to diagnose the range of application of modern technologies in integrated education. Determining the involvement of teachers in the organization of the teaching process with the use of new technologies is important because not all teachers have IT education. This issue was mentioned in the quantitative research conducted among teachers in 2021. In addition, the author, based on the obtained research results, presented examples of educational solutions that could combine Maria Montessori’s pedagogy and new technologies. Teachers should update their knowledge on didactic innovations that improve the process of gaining information about the world and follow those aspects which determine the behaviour and needs of students nowadays. I have presented in this article a method to combine educational ideas which are centuries apart.

    The article addresses the issue of alternative education in the context of cultural codes. On the basis of ethnographic research conducted in primary Montessori schools in Poland the author analyses the significance of local culture for the global range pedagogy, and in this way questions the thesis according to which Montessori is indifferent to cultural differences. The results of the research show, that all three cultural codes, including the totalitarian and folwark ones are present in many different situations investigated during the research. At the same time Polish Montessori schools are undoubtedly these places in which the modernization code is overwhelmingly present.

    W artykule podjęto problem realizacji edukacji matematycznej przez nauczycieli w przedszkolach w systemie Montessori. Na podstawie przeprowadzonych badań empirycznych ustalono, iż edukacja matematyczna w placówkach Montessori przebiega prawidłowo i efektywnie. Badani nauczyciele deklarują dużą częstotliwość realizowania treści matematycznych. Stosują zróżnicowane metody i formy kształcenia właściwe dla pedagogiki montessoriańskiej, preferując indywidualną pracę dziecka z materiałem rozwojowym. Taka sytuacja edukacyjna gwarantuje dzieciom kończącym edukację przedszkolną w systemie Montessori opanowanie na właściwym poziomie wstępnych umiejętności matematycznych nazwanych matematycznymi intuicjami oraz osiągniecie dojrzałości do uczenia się matematyki na poziomie szkolnym.
    The article tackles the issue of mathematical education provided by teachers in the kindergartens run in the Montessori system. As empirical research has demonstrated, mathematical education in Montessori kindergartens proceeds correctly and effectively. The respondent teachers declared that they teach mathematical content very often. They use varied teaching methods and forms specific to the Montessori approach, giving preference to individual work with the developmental material. Such an educational situation guarantees that children completing their pre-school education in the Montessori system will have mastered preliminary mathematical skills (called mathematical intuitions) at an appropriate level and attained the maturity required for learning mathematics at the school level.

Dane zostały zebrane na podstawie analizy materiałów źródłowych, w tym informacji zawartych na stronach internetowych leśnych przedszkoli, dokumentów takich jak projekt „Koncepcji Pedagogicznej Przedszkoli Leśnych działających w partnerstwie z Polskim Instytutem Przedszkoli Leśnych”, dostępnych wyników badań i literatury dotyczącej poruszanego zagadnienia, telefonicznej weryfikacji aktualności danych zawartych na internetowej mapie leśnych przedszkoli w Polsce, obserwacji uczestniczących prowadzonych m.in. w Leśnym Przedszkolu „Puszczyk” w Białymstoku. Celem przeprowadzonych dociekań była m.in. analiza przedszkoli leśnych i przedszkoli Montessori pod kątem podobieństw w ich funkcjonowaniu. W wyniku wykonanej pracy badawczej zauważono liczne punkty wspólne dla tych dwóch form edukacji alternatywnej, co opisano w tekście artykułu. Zaprezentowano również kilka wybranych polskich przedszkoli, które czerpią z koncepcji przedszkoli leśnych oraz montessoriańskiego systemu edukacji. Pokazuje to, że takie połączenie staje się ciekawą propozycją wychowania przedszkolnego zarówno dla założycieli przedszkoli, jak i adresatów tej oferty – dzieci w wieku przedszkolnym i ich
    The article presents the ideas behind forest kindergartens, as well as their interconnection with the Montessori Method. It also includes a brief history of forest kindergartens, both around the world and in Poland, and the characteristics of how they function. The presented data are based on the analysis of source materials, including information found on forest kindergartens’ websites, documents such as the project of “The Pedagogical Concept of Forest Kindergartens Operating in Partnership with the Polish Institute of Forest Kindergartens,” the available research results and the literature on the topic, the telephone verification of the validity of the data shown on the internet map of forest kindergartens in Poland, and participant observations carried out i.a. in “Puszczyk” forest kindergarten in Białystok. The objective of the conducted research was to analyse forest kindergartens and Montessori kindergartens, paying special attention to the similarities in their functioning. As a result of the scientific work, numerous links between the two forms of alternative education were found and these are set out in the article. Moreover, a selection of several Polish kindergartens which draw inspiration from the idea of forest kindergartens and the Montessori education system are presented herein. All of this shows that such a combination turns out to be an interesting proposition for pre-school education, both for the founders of kindergartens and the recipients of the offer – pre-school children and their parents.

    W części teoretycznej artykułu został przedstawiony zarys koncepcji pedagogicznej Marii Montessori, natomiast w części empirycznej dokonano opisu przebiegu badań własnych oraz zaprezentowano wyniki. Badania autorskie miały na celu uzyskanie aktualnych informacji na temat funkcjonowania placówek działających według założeń koncepcji pedagogicznej Marii Montessori w Polsce. Informacje te zostały uzyskane za pomocą wywiadów z osobami, które związane są na co dzień z placówkami montessoriańskimi (przedszkolami, szkołami). Analiza materiału empirycznego ujawniła, że rodzice i nauczyciele postrzegają ich funkcjonowanie, afirmując takie kategorie kluczowe dla tej koncepcji jak: samodzielność dzieci, indywidualizacja pracy dziecka, samodyscyplina dzieci, wspierająca rola nauczyciela, pogłębiona weryfikacja osiągnięć edukacyjnych. Natomiast zarówno pozytywne, jak i negatywne znaczenie nadają trzem innym ważnym kategoriom: swoboda działania dziecka, relacje między dziećmi, indywidualne podejście nauczycieli do dziecka.
    The theoretical part of the paper presents an outline of Maria Montessori's pedagogical concept, while the empirical part describes the course of her own research and presents its results. The author's research was aimed at obtaining up-to-date information on the functioning of institutions operating according to the assumptions of Maria Montessori's pedagogical concept in Poland, from people who are associated with Montessorian institutions (kindergartens, schools) on a daily basis. The analysis of empirical material revealed that parents and teachers perceive their functioning by affirming such key categories as: children's independence, individualization of child work, children's self-discipline, supporting role of the teacher, in-depth verification of educational achievements. On the other hand, both positive and negative meanings are given to three other important categories: the child's freedom of action, relationships between children, and the individual approach of teachers to the child.

    Maria Montessori’s pedagogy is considered a “classics” of Education Sciences. In this contribution, a survey conducted with three different groups of subjects attending University lectures or in-service Montessori training courses is reported. Main research purpose is to discover background knowledge and perceived meanings of each group concerning the Montessori Method and its main characteristics. Data collected from the three groups under investigation are compared to identify the most macroscopic differences and / or similarities. Through the graphs produced, first reflections and conclusions are attempted, at the same time readers are invited to build their own opinions inferring other meanings or conclusions thanks to data and reading tools provided.
    Pedagogika Marii Montessori jest postrzegana jako „klasyka” w naukach edukacyjnych. W pracy zaprezentowano wyniki badań ankietowych przeprowadzonych na trzech grupach badawczych: studentach oraz dwóch grupach nauczycieli będących uczestnikami szkolenia Montessori. Głównym celem badania było rozpoznanie stanu wiedzy środowiskowej i ustalenie, co poszczególne grupy rozumieją przez metodę Montessori. Zebrane dane przeanalizowano, aby określić najważniejsze różnice i podobieństwa w wynikach uzyskanych w tych grupach. Graficzne zaprezentowanie wyników badań pozwoliło na sformułowanie wniosków, czytający może także na ich podstawie samodzielnie zbudować własną opinię na ten temat.

    This paper summarizes the contribution of Montessori approaches to religious education, both by Maria Montessori herself and by the more recent work of Sofia Cavalletti, Gianna Gobbi and the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. It is acknowledged that this work has been pursued primarily in an attempt to match religious experiences with developmental sensitive periods. The question remains, however, of how the needs of those who have missed the ideal moment for the various aspects of their religious development can be accommodated. A case is made for seeing the typi-cal stages of human development described by Montessori as a general sequential process for all learning, including religious. Consequently, the sequence of experiences used in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd might be able to serve the wider purpose of indicating an appropriate se-quence for all religious learning.

    The article addresses the religious and educational contexts of Maria Montessori’s pedagogical system, along with its anthropological and ontological embedding, with a particular focus on the teleological concept of the world and the messianic concept of the child and childhood. The analysis of Montessori’s views on the significance of religious education, which can be read from the perspective of expanded ecumenism, indicates its subservience to the development of the child’s spirituality, understood both in the perspective of self-transcendence and the role to be played by the child in the eschatological process of achieving a world of perpetual peace.

    The Comenius‘s extensive pedagogical work has become an inspiration for a number of pedagogical directions, for a number of significant personalities of education and upbringing sciences throughout the historical development. The contribution analyses the influence of Comenius’s thoughts, in particular concerning reform pedagogy at the beginning of the 20est century, in particular on the works of John Dewey, Marie Montessori, Helen Parkhurst and Rudolf Steiner. Also, Wilhelm von Humboldt, German thinker and significant pedagogue of high education relied on the philosophical concept of teaching. As for the Czech history of pedagogical thought, the text refers in particular to Karel Slavoj Amerling who even considered himself a successor of the Comenius’ work. Of course, several other significant pedagogues have addressed the work of John Amos Comenius. The contribution refers to the thoughts of Otakar Kádner and Stanislav Velínský who both state that some Comenius’ thoughts did not find application in the school system until the course of school reforms in the European countries in the 20est century.
    Komenského rozsáhlé dílo pedagogické se v průběhu historického vývoje stalo inspirací pro celou řadu pedagogických směrů, pro řadu významných osobností věd o výchově a vzdělávání. Příspěvek se zabývá vlivem Komenského myšlenek zejména na reformní pedagogiku počátku 20. století, konkrétně na díla Johna Deweye, Marii Montessori, Helen Parkhurst a Rudolfa Steinera. Také německý myslitel a veřejný činitel Wilhelm von Humboldt, významný pedagog vysokoškolského vzdělávání se opíral o filozofický koncept výuky. Z české historie pedagogického myšlení je v textu připomenut zejména Karel Slavoj Amerling, který se dokonce považoval za pokračovatele v Komenského díle. Dílem Jana Amose Komenského se samozřejmě zabývala řada dalších významných pedagogů. Příspěvek uvádí myšlenky Otakara Kádnera a Stanislava Velínského, kteří shodně konstatují, že některé Komenského myšlenky didaktické našly uplatnění ve školství až v průběhu školských reforem v evropských zemích až ve 20. století.

    The innovative tendency in pedagogy, called “new education”, which appeared in many European countries in the first half of the 20th century, aimed at reviving schooling, the conditions of education, and the process of learning; it also set a new role for the teacher and emphasized a new approach to the child. Maria Montessori (1870–1952), an Italian physician and educationalist, was one of the representatives of “new education”. Knowledge of the pedagogical theory developed by Montessori was spread in Poland through her books and the pedagogical-psychological literature of Polish educationalists, which referred to the Montessori educational concept. The purpose of this work is to present the reception of Montessori’s pedagogical theory in pre-school education in 1918–1939.
    Nowatorski nurt w pedagogice, określany mianem „nowego wychowania”, który pojawił się w wielu krajach Europy w I połowie XX w., zmierzał do odnowy szkoły, warunków nauki i procesu uczenia się, wyznaczał nową rolę nauczycielowi, akcentował także nowe podejście do dziecka. Jedną z wielu przedstawicieli „nowego wychowania” była Maria Montessori (1870–1952), włoska lekarka i pedagog. Poznaniu teorii pedagogicznej M. Montessori w Polsce służyły publikacje książkowe jej autorstwa oraz literatura pedagogiczno-psychologiczna polskich pedagogów, w której nawiązywano do koncepcji wychowania Montessori. Celem artykułu jest ukazanie recepcji teorii pedagogicznej M. Montessori w wychowaniu przedszkolnym w latach 1918–1939.

    Szkic ten przybliża dwie włoskie koncepcje wychowania i edukacji dziecka w wieku przedszkolnym: metodę Montessori i podejście Reggio Emilia. Choć powstawały one w odrębnych okresach historycznych i realiach polityczno-społecznych, w odniesieniu do wartości, takich jak miłość i szacunek do dziecka czy respektowanie jego praw rozwojowych, obydwie koncepcje mają wiele wspólnego. Tym, co je łączy, jest wiara w potencjał i nieograniczone zasoby dziecka, a także przeniesienie akcentu z aktywności nauczyciela w stronę aktywności dziecka. W odniesieniu do metody Montessori, w podejściu Reggio Emilia silniej uwypuklony jest aspekt relacji i interakcji w dziecięcym procesie uczenia. Wspólnotowy wymiar, będący od początku istnienia przedszkoli Reggio Emilia podstawą ich funkcjonowania, jest jedną z najistotniejszych różnic pomiędzy zaprezentowanymi podejściami, i w związku z tym odmiennymi rozwiązaniami edukacyjnymi. W artykule przedstawiono podłoże powstania koncepcji M. Montessori (początek XX w.) i podejścia Reggio Emilia (lata 50. XX w.). W obydwu systemach zaprezentowano wizję dziecka i nauczyciela oraz istotę środowiska wychowawczo-edukacyjnego tworzonego dla dzieci w przestrzeni instytucjonalnej. Założeniem autorek tekstu było przywołanie myśli, rozważań i refleksji twórców oryginalnych włoskich teorii pedagogicznych
    The paper presents two Italian approaches to early childhood education: the Montessori method and the Reggio Emilia approach. Although they emerged in different historical periods and socio-political realities, these two approaches have a lot in common with regard to values like love and respect for children and their developmental rights. Moreover, they share a belief in the potential and boundless resources of the child as well as shifting the emphasis from a teacher’s activity to that of the child. In comparison to the Montessori method, the Reggio Emilia approach strongly highlights the importance of relations and interactions in the children’s learning process. Group work, which has been one of the fundamentals of the Reggio Emilia approach from the very beginning, is the main difference between these two approaches. The article presents the background of each pedagogical idea (the Montessori method – the beginning of 20th century, Reggio Emilia – the 1950s). The description of the ideas is based on such aspects as the image of a child, the image of a teacher and the role of environment in education. In the article, the authors refer mainly to the thoughts of Montessori, the creator of her own method, and Loris Malaguzzi, who was the leader of the educational experience in Reggio Emilia.

    Przedmiotem analizy myśli Marii Montessori jest idea wychowania do pokoju jako antidotum na afirmację przemocy w polityce i środowiskach socjalizacyjno-wychowawczych. Inspiracją do podjęcia tego zagadnienia stała się wojna w Ukrainie, która wywołała w środowiskach pedagogicznych ponowny spór o rolę i efektywność wychowania do pokoju. Coraz częściej powraca na świecie, w tym także w Europie, przemoc militarna wobec jednego z suwerennych państw. Po wojnie lat 90. XX w. na Bałkanach doświadczamy od ośmiu lat wojny imperialnej Rosji wobec Ukrainy, której nasilenie wiosną 2022 r. odsłoniło nekrofilny efekt edukacji młodych pokoleń kraju agresora. W artykule autor stawia pytanie o to, w jakim stopniu pedagogika pokoju Montessori oraz jej idee poszanowania praw człowieka i wychowania dzieci w miłości mają jeszcze szanse na konfrontację z czarną pedagogiką, pedagogiką negatywną. Z badań współczesnej myśli psychologicznej i pedagogicznej wynika, że początki przemocy tkwią w dzieciństwie i pierwotnym środowisku socjalizacji dzieci i młodzieży.
    The subject of the analysis of Maria Montessori’s thought is the idea of education for peace as an antidote to the affirmation of violence in politics and socialization and educational environments. The war in Ukraine was the inspiration to take up this issue, which triggered another dispute in pedagogical circles about the role and effectiveness of education for peace. Military violence against one of sovereign states is returning more and more often in the world, including Europe. After the war of the 1990s in the Balkans, we have been experiencing Russia’s imperial war against Ukraine for eight years, the intensification of which in the spring of 2022 revealed the necrophilic effect of educating the aggressor’s young generations. In the article, the author asks the question of to what extent Montessori’s pedagogy of peace and her ideas of respecting human rights and raising children in love still have a chance of being confronted with black pedagogy, negative pedagogy. The research of contemporary psychological and pedagogical thought shows that the origins of violence lie in childhood and the primary socialization environment of children and adolescents.

    Przedmiotem przeprowadzonych badań była realizacja idei podmiotowego traktowania rodziców dzieci uczęszczających do przedszkoli publicznych i niepublicznych opartych na koncepcji pedagogicznej M. Montessori. Ich celem było zdiagnozowanie aktualnej sytuacji dotyczącej współpracy przedszkola z rodzicami w wymiarze instrumentalnym i decyzyjnym oraz przepływu informacji. Problemem głównym stało się pytanie: W jaki sposób montessoriańskie przedszkola publiczne i niepubliczne realizują podmiotowe podejście we współpracy z rodzicami dzieci? Pytanie to zostało uszczegółowione o kwestię: oceny form i sposobów komunikowania się z rodzicami przez nauczycieli, możliwości współuczestnictwa decyzyjnego i instrumentalnego. W celu zebrania opinii rodziców zastosowano sondaż diagnostyczny z techniką ankiety. Badaniami objęto rodziców dzieci, które uczęszczały do przedszkola przynajmniej przez jeden rok, w czterech celowo wybranych placówkach wychowania przedszkolnego, realizujących koncepcję edukacyjną opracowaną przez M. Montessori. Wśród nich były dwie placówki niepubliczne i dwie publiczne z trzech miast: z Krakowa, Białegostoku i Tychów. Badania zostały przeprowadzone w roku szkolnym 2014/2015. Otrzymane wyniki wskazują, że w badanych przedszkolach realizowane są kryteria partycypacji rodziców w pracy placówek. Są oni informowani o koncepcji filozoficznej, pedagogicznej i organizacyjnej przedszkola. Pozytywnie ocenili przepływ informacji na temat rozwoju dzieci. Kwestia współdecydowania o pracy przedszkola jest regulowana statutem przedszkola. W niektórych sprawach nauczyciele powinni bardziej konsultować się z rodzicami oraz uświadamiać ich o swoich działaniach wychowawczych w celu wypracowania jednolitego oddziaływania na dziecko i budowania zaufania.
    The subject of the study was the realization of the idea of subjective treatment of parents whose children attend public and private kindergartens based on the Montessori teaching concept. The aim was to diagnose the current situation concerning cooperation between kindergarten staff and parents in the dimension of instrumental and decision-making and information flow. The primary concern was the question: how do Montessori public and private kindergartens carry out a subjective approach in cooperation with parents? This has been particularized to the issue: evaluation forms and ways of communicating with parents by teachers, participatory decision-making and instrumental capabilities. In order to gather the views of parents we used a diagnostic technique survey questionnaire. The study involved the parents of children who attended preschool for at least one year in four purposely selected pre-school institutions, implementing the educational concept developed by Montessori. Among them were two private and two public institutions from the three cities of Cracow, Białystok and Tychy. The research was conducted in the school year 2014/15. The results showed that there are some criteria of parents’ participation in the work of tested institutions. Parents are informed about the philosophical, pedagogical and organizational concept of a kindergarten. The parents positively evaluated the flow of information on the development of children. The issue of co-operation is governed by kindergarten statute. In some cases, teachers should consult more with parents and educate them about their educational activities in order to develop a uniform impact on the child and to build trust.

    Matematyka jest przedmiotem, który sprawia uczniom najwięcej problemów nieraz przez całe życie szkolne. Od lat obserwuje się na całym świecie niezadawalające wyniki nauczania tego przedmiotu, a brak lub zbyt niski poziom umiejętności matematycznych nie pozwala wielu uczniom sprostać rosnącym wymaganiom życiowym. Taka niepokojąca sytuacja implikuje podejmowanie ustawicznych prób modyfikacji i reformowania programów edukacji matematycznej zmierzających w kierunku większej ich skuteczności. W pracy podjęto problem trudności dzieci w uczeniu się matematyki. Zwrócono uwagę na rodzaje i skutki niepowodzeń w edukacji matematycznej. W kontekście tych zagadnień, jako alternatywę zakomenderowano edukację metodą M. Montessori. Omówiono główne założenia pedagogiki montessoriańskiej ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem materiału rozwojowego. Największą uwagę poświęcono materiałom sensorycznym i matematycznym, dokonując krótkiej ich charakterystyki oraz wskazując wysoką skuteczność edukacyjną. W celu przybliżenia specyfiki montessoriańskich form pracy ucznia przedstawiono trzystopniową lekcję nazw dotyczącą charakterystycznej dla metody Montessori pomocy rozwojowej, zwanej „złotym materiałem”. W zakończeniu wskazano efektywność dydaktyczną pedagogiki Montessori w obszarze edukacji matematycznej. Podkreślono, że uczniowie w placówkach montessoriańskich chętnie i samodzielnie pracują z materiałami matematycznymi. Doświadczają sukcesów, nabywają nowe umiejętności i przekonują się, że matematyka może być łatwa i przyjemna.
    Mathematics is a school subject which causes students the greatest problems, sometimes throughout their entire school experience. Unsatisfactory learning outcomes in mathematics have been observed worldwide for a number of years, and the lack of or poor mathematical skills make it impossible for many students to cope with the ever increasing demands of modern life. In view of this alarming situation, constant attempts are being made to modify and reform mathematics education curricula in order to improve their effectiveness. The present study explores the difficulties faced by students in learning mathematics. Attention is given to the types and effects of failures in mathematics education. In the context of these problems, the Montessori method is recommended as an alternative. The main assumptions of the Montessori pedagogy are presented, with a special emphasis on the development material. The greatest prominence is given to sensory and mathematical materials, providing their brief characterization and pointing to their high educational effectiveness. In order to bring the characteristics of Montessori’s organizational forms closer (forms of students’ work) the three-stage-lesson is presented. The lesson involves presenting the names connected with the typical developmental Montessori method with the use of Golden Bead Material. The concluding section highlights the didactic effectiveness of Montessori pedagogy in the domain of mathematics education. It is stressed that students who have been educated in Montessori schools work eagerly with mathematical materials and independently. They achieve educational success, acquire new skills and see that mathematics can be easy and pleasant to learn.
