Opis:
This article discusses issues of forming and developing media skills in children in a family setting. Research on the role of media (mainly television) in a child’s life has been conducted for many years and indicates a necessity to develop a child’s media skills early (Izdebska, 1996, 2007; Kossowski 1999; Braun-Gałkowska 2003). There is a shortage of data on the role of parents in preparing children for formal media education (at school or preschool). It is the parents’ responsibility to ensure that a child’s first contact with media is handled properly. In light of this, the following questions arise: Do parents know about the risks, and also opportunities, resulting from the use of media by children? Do they teach children how to choose which media to use and manage the amount of time spent doing it? Do they teach children proper ways of using media for play? I attempt answering these questions by referencing opinions of media experts, psychologists and educators on the topic of media influence (“media childhood”), the significance of media education in developing media literacy in children, and by presenting the conclusions of my research that inspire further insightful analyses into media education of children at home.

Opis:
Indirect education found and is still finding its source in various media for a long time. Technological advancement results in the educators having an increased ability to use new tools in education. The goal remains the same but the social conditions impose a new identity – the subject teacher evolves into a media one. In the school system, necessary corrections have been introduced to the most important documents and the curricula, but there is still a lack of knowledge on what media education looks like in practice in specific national realities. The review article shows how goals determined by the curricula are already realized through new media in Poland and for which goals the didactic activities should be expanded. In the thematic block concerning physical activity, there is an entry: “The contents of this area have been enriched with modern forms of movement, physical activities from other European countries and use of modern technologies to monitor and plan physical activity” (MEN, 2017: 191). When organizing activities in the classroom area and with the right equipment, conducting lessons with the use of the media is not a problematic task. But are the PE teachers in a similarly comfortable position? It turns out that the development of information technology is conducive to the achievement of the objectives of this subject as well. The literature review and the solutions used so far in the school system are the basis for the thesis of a correlation between the ways in which modern media are used and the formation of the students’ attitudes towards physical culture.

Opis:
Development of modern-day media has a significant impact on many aspects of the human life. It is based on intensive technological changes that take place in media. They are a challenge for the researcher and a chance for the social life animateurs. Research on the importance of media for education has been conducted for many years. Their socialisation impact on the young generation is recognised and examined in many forms. Nonetheless, the paradigms that are adopted when conducting these studies need to be revised. New technologies change the nature of this socialisation impact. This paper attempts to revise these paradigms: treatment of the young users of new technologies as more competent in using them, unconditional recognition of technology as a tool to acquire knowledge, direction of media transformation. Pedagogy should take into account new paradigms to help a young adolescent to find himself/herself in the educational environment being highly saturated with new technologies, and, from the one hand, protect from completely new dangers and, from the other one, use the opportunity being provided by them.

Aim. The study aims to identify and compare the sending of own and somebody else’s intimate photos and videos and to point out the importance of media education as a meaningful way of preventing sexting. Methods. The research tool was an online self-designed questionnaire. 250 respondents aged 15 to 19 participated in the research. Results. The research has shown that sending their own photos and somebody else’s photos are equally frequent. Differences are only noticeable in average values. The findings offer an overview of sending sexually explicit photos and indicate decreased shyness, and a greater desire to attract attention through their own naked photos or videos. In the case of sending somebody else’s photos, it is a matter of ridiculing the victim without his/her consent. Conclusions. Primarily, the importance of media education ought to be pointed out, as it provides information about the dangers of publishing such photos and videos, and develops critical thinking and media literacy in children, which is key for the safeguarding of online space. We see the importance and significance of the study especially in the prevention of sexting through media education, which could be the primary means of eliminating it.

The aim of this article is to present the results of the research into the reception of Oscarwinning movies among teenagers (lower and upper secondary school students). Three movies, namely Slumdog Millionaire, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Reader were the favourites of the young viewers. The students watched the films attentively and were able to present and justify their choices and opinions. The results of the survey created quite a coherent and homogenous picture of the movies. It seems that the students’ interest in the cinema and the capability of critical thinking derive from the media education provided by the school.
