In order to study the characteristics of mixed vessel traffic flow, based on classical head distance model and probability analysis, by studying the combination time head way of different vessel-following sequences, the capacity model of mixed vessels traffic flow was established. Through analyzing two representative types of vessels, research results indicate that the capacity of mixed traffic increase with the traffic flow speed in a certain speed range, but the increasing trend slow down. The closer length and inertial stopping distance of different kind vessels are, the more capacity of mixed traffic increases. And the influence of reaction time on the capacity is related to proportion of different kind vessels.

Strength of educational system depends upon the quality pf teachers. Teachers have always been considered as one of the noblest professions. (Naz, 2016). Students are generally influenced by their teachers because they spend most of their time at school (Rahaman, 2010; Rosen, 2010). To teach students according to today’s standards, teachers need to understand subject matter deeply and flexibly so that they can help students create useful cognitive maps, relate one idea to another, and address misconceptions. Teachers need to see how ideas connect across fields and to everyday life. Teachers use suitable strategies and resources to follow instructions according to the needs of the needs of individuals and groups of students. Teachers should guide pupils learning in analyzing. Teachers should provide manifold models and explanations of concepts behaviors and skills. Teachers provide creative and critical thinking, problem solving ability, curiosity. They should know how to use various technological and communication. They should believe in change and flexibility in teaching learning process (Rahaman, 2010; Rosen, 2010).

World marine engineering sector has been developing rather swiftly since recently. Every year the majority of leading shipping companies raise the level of management & maintenance of their vessels. Therefore the requirements to seafarers are increasing constantly. All these circumstances lead to the fact that every next year marine institutions, having limited time for teaching process, meet rising difficulties in seafarer’s proper training. That goes particularly for the special (technical) subjects, which are being taught to future marine engineers and form the level of their proficiency by the time of the graduation.

Opis:
Shipping can be regarded as a high-risk domain with a large complexity in operations. Accidents and incidents may involve serious danger for seafarers and passengers, as well as for the environment and society at large. Education and training play a crucial role for the safe conduct of ships. While technical skills have been at the core of a mariner’s skillset, non-technical skills (NTS) have become increasingly important for the safe conduct of merchant vessels. Therefore, knowledge in NTS has become a mandatory requirement for officers serving on board. This knowledge is normally taught in courses labelled Bridge Resource Management, Engine room Resource Management, or Maritime Resource Management. While the number of courses in the industry is steadily increasing, research focused on NTS training and its relation to safety in operation seems sparse. This review article aims to provide an overview of scientific literature focused on training NTS for maritime operations published between 2000 and 2018. Based on the reviewed literature the article identifies and discusses current research gaps, trends and potential future directions to improve maritime resource management training.

Opis:
In real systems are non-linear mathematical description. The exact solution can not be determined, and then look for approximate methods. Important is the type of nonlinearity, solutions and error method approximation. Linearization is an essential part of creating a model of the selected process. Ship resistance is a function of power with exponent two and higher. Model motion of the ship must have a solution in terms of maneuverability speed and speed of the sea. The solution must be well reproduce the actual path of the transition and the transition time of the ship. Nonlinear solution method determines the accuracy of the answers. Has presented the revised approach to solve the nonlinear differential equation of parabolic function. Linearization has been made in the selected range, and not where you want it to work and solve the error estimate. Range of solutions selected by external priorities adopted. Before the solution is estimated response error. The error value determines whether the selected interval will apply. If the problem solution is unacceptable, it will increase the accuracy of the result of the narrow scope of the work. The new scope of work should also be reassessed a solution error. This type of approach correlates with fuzzy logic, where we use the value of the Boolean variable with the function of belonging. The combination of classical methods of solving differential equations of the theory of fuzzy sets can bring new benefits. Such a solution must have the function of the accuracy of the answers. The linearization method meets this requirement.

Opis:
Approaches to the port are usually considered high traffic areas. Not only deep draft vessels pass through this limited manoeuvring space, but also intensive pleasure craft traffic, especially during the summer season. Crossing of both commercial ships and pleasure craft traffic may generate dangerous situations for navigation. The aim of the following article is to present solutions to the aforementioned safety problem. The article focuses on the navigation safety aspects at the Świnoujście seaport entrance. Currently, Świnoujście-Szczecin Port Regulations take only large ships into consideration while specifying the safety passing at this area, at the same time, belittling the presence of small crafts up to 20 m in length. In order to prove the need for change, one should first present the necessary research concerning the evaluation of the safety level of maximum sized ships navigating at the Świnoujście entrance area in the presence or absence of small pleasure crafts. The surveys were conducted on a group of pilots and captains possessing pilot exemption certificates. The research findings clearly show that the traffic of small crafts and large ships should be separated due to safety concerns. Thus, marine traffic engineering solution is suggested in order to eliminate the most plausible dangers.

Petroleum substances are a mixture of many hydrocarbons of various structures; some of them are toxic for marine organisms. In case of pollution of the aquatic environment, these compounds may enter seawater organisms and adversely affect gas exchange and inhibit photosynthesis. Therefore, it is important to take measures to reduce the emissions of these compounds into the aquatic environment and quickly to remove possible spills of uncontrolled pollution. Sorbents are materials that soak up oil from water. They are best suited for the absorption of oil – derived substances. They are used to absorb leaks in open and closed tanks, particularly in hard – to-reach places. Sorbents can be natural organic, natural inorganic or synthetic. Natural sorbents are divided to organic materials such as peat moss or wood products, and inorganic materials such as vermiculite or clay. Sorbents are available in a loose form, which includes granules, powder, chunks and cubes. Synthetic sorbents are used to wipe other oil spill recovery equipment such as skimmers and booms after a spill clean-up operation. The thesis deals with the issues related to the analysis of the possibility of using sorbents to combat oil pollution in port and coastal areas. The article discusses the types of pollution occurring in coastal waters, as well as the types of sorbents used and the forces and measures to combat pollution. The characteristic features of sorbents are rate of absorption and adsorption, oil retention and ease of application. Absorption tests were carried out and the best sorbents for combating oil pollution were selected.

Project analysis to meet needs for equipment customized to pumping out surface forms of oil in the port and other narrow basins are reported in this paper. New elements of the technical concept of the skimmer to eliminate the disadvantages of structurally similar devices are proposed - esential componets of the new type of skimmer currently elaborating in the Student Scientific Society „Nautica“ (at Faculty of Marine Engineering of the Gdynia Maritime University) are demostrated. The first motivation to this work is that the consequence of growing usage of ships in the world transport is necessity to search for more fast and efficient methods to remove oil pollutions from the water surface and the second one – preparation of appropriate training and research equipment for the continuous improvement of its construction as well as the manner of its use in variety conditions. Port areas are relatively small and they have numerous hard to navigate places, therefore oils which leaked from ships or transloading equipment are difficult to remove from the water surface. Those all factors promote the development of the new and innovative solutions for more efficient water treatment. New solutions of the technical concept of the skimmer are proposed here - among other the theoretically justifiable triangular inlet openings with the system of vertical positionnig relative to the water surface.

Opis:
The paper presents search for objective and quantitative method of determination usefulness of various loose sorbents destined for cleaning surfaces polluted with oil. The motivation to take up the topic is that oil pollution emergence in marine areas remains still as the environmental problem. During the ship exploitation there is possibility of appearing of the fuel oil, lubricating oil, hydraulic oil or even transformer oil leaks on the board which might be erased by washing or using sorbent powders and granules or mates. In the case of disposing the washing liquids, the large volume of oil-in-water emulsion is forming which is gathered in a tank and further transported to the vessel cleaning system. In the case when sorbents are applied in an early phase of oil leakage, the vessel cleaning system is less overloaded which reduce the probability of failure. We report analyses of effectiveness of mineral and organic sorbents. The time-period of incepting of defined amount of oil by define amount of sorbent is applied as the sorption effectiveness parameter. Time plots of oil sorption as well as visualizations of this process are presented. Method to characterize the efficiency of sorbents in relation to used lubricating oil is proposed which will stand as the base for further works directed towards elaborating optimal sorbent-set which can be rapidly used for combat spillages and leaks of oils and even other liquid dangerous payloads carried by ships.

The paper presents the study about impregnability of various loose materials dedicated as the fillers of oil absorbent socks and booms. Purpose of the survey was finding the material, which is characterized with the smallest hygroscopicity and the highest absorptivity towards typical fuels used in the marine techniques. The cause of take up the topic is the fact, that the contamination of sea areas with petroleum substances are unfortunately very often, are dangerous for natural environment and first of all are so hard to remove from the sea surface. The natural, mineral and synthetic sorbents were studied under laboratory conditions. Samples of the ten kinds of sorbent, each of 2 grams, were treated with the same amount of the diesel fuel, heavy fuel oil and the sea water also, each time in the same period-time (5 minutes). In order to determine the reliability of the results the authors carried out the test fivefold for the one of searched sorbents (recognized as the most hydrophobic-oleophilic substance). The results are presented in graphical form, based on which we are able to select sorbent that fulfils the greatest extent of required expectations. The results of performed tests show that the method that was described in the paper could be used to test the suitability of various materials for the production of devices for collecting the oil film from the surface of the water.
