Maintenance is a key manufacturing function that contributes to a company’s productivity, profitability and sustainability. Unfortunately, many aspects of the contribution of maintenance to sustainability in manufacturing remain unexplored, and many enterprises are not yet ready to assess the maintenance impacts on their sustainability. Maturity models are useful tools for assessing maintenance practices; however, no maintenance maturity model that allows the evaluation of the contribution of maintenance to sustainable performance was found in literature. This paper proposes a model for assessing the maturity and sustainability of maintenance processes. The model outputs are: a measure of the maintenance and sustainability maturity level; recommendations for improvement to undertake to enhance maintenance maturity and, thus, meet sustainability standards. The model was applied in three manufacturing enterprises: the calculation of their maintenance maturity and sustainability indices made the maintenance stakeholders more aware of the need to implement effective strategies for more sustainable maintenance performance.

The accurate assessment of aircraft structure damage risk is the premise of establishing reasonable, economic and reliable maintenance intervals. While many studies have proposed damage risk assessment methods for aircraft structures, these methods lack the quantification of risk. This paper proposed a risk assessment method of aircraft structure damage maintenance interval considering fatigue crack growth rate and crack detection rate. The damage process of aircraft structure was simulated by Monte Carlo simulation to realize the quantitative assessment of aircraft structure damage risk and maintenance interval. Taking an aircraft fleet as an example, the damage risk of its wing structure was simulated and analyzed. The results show that if the risk is controlled within a reasonable range, the maintenance interval should be shortened to 16 flight hours. At the same time, through the analysis of the risk classification standard and the crack detection rate, the quantitative evaluation of the risk classification standard was realized.

Maintenance involves a large amount of data management. Although many tools, strategies, and systems, have been developed to organize the maintenance information resources, SMEs have not found the same benefits as large companies due to their inherent characteristics and, above all, the maturity level of the maintenance department. Maturity models are useful tools for assessing the maturity of maintenance information practices; however, existing models are not suitable for any type of business context, as they required companies to have a clear organizational structure and definite informative infrastructure. Moreover, they do not assist in identifying and defining actions to reach the highest level. This paper proposes a model for assessing and improving maintenance management information practices. It allows a clear measure of the maturity of the maintenance information management practices in industrial contexts and provides improvement actions identifying the information and data needed to enhance maintenance management information practices.

Data-driven predictive aircraft maintenance approach typically results in lower maintenance costs, avoiding unnecessary preventive maintenance actions and reducing unexpected failures. Information provided by a reliability analysis of aircraft components and systems can improve an existing maintenance strategy and ensure an optimal maintenance task interval. For reliability work, the exponential distribution is typically used; however, this approach requires substantial amounts of data, which often may not be generated by aviation operations. Therefore, this study proposes a method for reliability analysis given a small dataset. Real-life historical data of an aircraft operating in Nigeria validate the proposed approach and prove its applicability.

Improving the efficiency of maintenance processes is one of the goals of companies. Improvement activities in this area require not only an appropriate maintenance strategy but also the use of a new approach to increase the efficiency of the process. This article focuses on using Six Sigma (SS) to improve maintenance processes. As an introduction, the generations of SS development are identified, and traditional and advanced analytical tools that can be useful in SS projects are reviewed. As part of the research, an example of the implementation of the SS project in the maintenance process using the DMAIC and selected advanced analytical methods, such as PCA and logistic regression, was presented. The PCA results showed that it was enough to have seven main components to keep about 84% of the information on variability. In developed logistic regression explained the impact of the individual factors affecting the availability of the machines. The identified factors and their interactions made it possible to define maintenance activities requiring improvements

The operation of high-speed tracked vehicles takes place in difficult terrain conditions. Hence, to obtain a high operational relia-bility, the design or modernisation process must be precise and should consider even the slightest details. The article presents issues re-lated to the problem of formulating vehicle models using partial models of flexible elements used in tracked mechanisms. Changes occur-ring in the shape and properties of elements such as track pads and roadwheel bandages as a consequence of operating conditions are presented. These changes are reflected in the presented elastic–damping characteristics of components of the crawler mechanism. Nu-merical studies have shown that deterioration of chassis suspension components after a significant mileage may increase dynamic loads (forces) acting on the running gear. Increased forces in the running gear naturally result in increased stresses in the road surface on which the vehicle is travelling, which can pose a danger (or excessive wear and tear) to road infrastructure components such as culverts, bridges and viaducts. In the literature, model tests of objects are carried out on models that represent new vehicles, and the characteristics of the adopted elements correspond to elements not affected by the process and operating conditions. Its influence should not be ignored in the design, testing and running of a special vehicle. The tracked mechanism, as running gear, is designed for special high-speed vehicles for off-road and off-road driving. Its design ensures high off-road traversability. The dynamic loads originating from off-road driving are super-imposed on those generated by the engine, drive train and interaction of the tracks with the roadwheels, sprocket, idler and supporting tracks return rollers.

Fleet systems are considered complex due to the interaction between their units and components. Maintenance management systems face various challenges to achieve acceptable availability and reliability rates at a reasonable cost. A critical task for making maintenance decisions is understanding the system requirements to select maintenance policies appropriate for the actual and future system state. When there is a replacement shortage in a fleet system, and it is impossible to supply new spare parts quickly, cannibalization policies can mitigate this scarcity via the interchange of components. However, this procedure presents the maintenance manager with different evaluation effects, such as increased maintenance hours, decreased system reliability rate, and unavailability in some units. Finding an equilibrium between the benefits and risks has caught the attention of researchers. This work gathers diverse proposals for applying cannibalization policies and the effects that arise from using them. Models, methods, tools, and identified gaps in understanding what parameters of the components and environments of the fleet systems favor cannibalization are discussed.

Opis:
A convenient urban transportation network facilitates a high-quality life and a high-growth economy. Due to cascading failures being a ticklish question triggering continuous road congestion, the maintenance plan is momentous to restore the urban transportation network. Considering fault edges are removed and cars slowly drive out of these edges to ease traffic congestion, a traffic distribution model is proposed to analyze the cascading failures process. To resume the transportation network, this paper proposes a maintenance optimization with minimizing maintenance time. It recovers the cascading failures from two perspectives: the intra-area maintenance model and the inter-area maintenance model. At last, a transportation network of a city in China is regarded as a case study to illuminate the feasibility of the proposed models. The results show that on the premise of dividing traffic areas, it is reasonable to adopt the intra-area maintenance plan for cascading failures. Compared with the previous travel data, the inter-area maintenance plan saves more time.

Maintenance can improve a system’s reliability in a long operation period or when a component has failed. The reliability modeling method that uses the stochastic process degradation model to describe the system degradation process has been widely used. However, the existing reliability models established using stochastic processes only consider the internal degradation process, and do not fully consider the impact of external random shocks on their reliability modeling. Furthermore, the existing theory of importance does not consider the actual factors of maintenance cost. In this paper, based on the reliability modeling of random processes, the degradation rate under the influence of random shocks is introduced into the time scale function to solve the impact of random shocks on product reliability, and two cost importance measures are proposed to guide the maintenance selection of the components under limited resources in the system. Finally, a subsystem of an aircraft hydraulic system is analyzed to verify the proposed method’s performance.

Current situation with the fleet of transport and technological machinery in Ukraine requires an individual approach to evaluating the effectiveness of its maintenance and repair system. The article is devoted to the issue of selecting the most effective option for the use of transport and technological machinery taking into account the specific conditions of its operation characterized by certain risks and uncertainties, and considering the real volumes and age structure of the fleet. Solving this problem requires substantiation of management models of maintenance and repair processes. It is necessary to provide scientifically based methods of managing the system of technical maintenance (TM) and repair of transport and technological machinery (RTTM) using specific methods of an individual approach to the technical and economic evaluation of the effectiveness of maintenance and RTTM processes which are adapted to the modern conditions of its operation. The article presents the results of the research, which was carried out using the basics of system analysis, the theory of decision-making under the conditions of uncertainty, and the basics of multi-criteria analysis. In the course of research, an analytical management model of the maintenance and repair system operation was formed that reveals the sequence of implementing the management methodology, which makes it possible to assess its state in successive discrete states, to promptly take into account the effect of external influencing factors and make corrections, which, in turn, allow increasing the validity of strategic decisions aimed at increasing the effectiveness. A numerical calculation was performed, which allowed us to conclude that the value of maintenance intervals has a significant impact on the indicator of effectiveness. Adjusting this value makes it possible to optimize maintenance and repair processes.

Modelling the time that the system remains in a given state using classical distributions is not always possible. In many cases, empirical distributions are multimodal due to the influence of external, hidden factors and the selection of the best classical distributions may lead to erroneous results. In the article the method of diagnosis of influence of hidden factors into sojourn time of semi-Markov models was presented. In order to capture hidden factors, the authors proposed to model the distributions of the sojourn time with a mixture of distributions, which is a significant novelty in relation to the studies presented in the literature. Hidden factors directly affect the reliability of technical systems. Detecting the existence of these factors enables more accurate modeling of system readiness. Paying attention to irregularities caused by hidden factors makes it possible to reduce system maintenance costs. Such a system model providescomplete information and enables a reliable assessment of the system readiness and maintenance.

Return migration has probably been granted the lowest attention in the field of family language policy (FLP). The current paper seeks to address this gap in the research and explores the dynamics of FLP of a Polish family in the context of their temporary migration to Germany and return migration to Poland. The authors investigate how mobility affects FLP, especially towards L1 (Polish) and L2 (German) in the context of migration and return migration. The study takes a qualitative, interview-based study design, supported by the language portrait technique. An analysis of the interview data has evidenced the parents’ strong support for the maintenance and development of L1 throughout the whole process of migration and return migration and the lack of it in the case of L2 after the return to Poland. The results have also evidenced that individuals in a family, including children, have significant autonomy and agency and can shape their independ- ent FLPs, which are aligned neither with their parents nor siblings.

Opis:
The fault diagnosis for maintenance of machines operating in variable conditions requires special dedicated methods. Variable load or temperature conditions affect the vibration signal values. The article presents a new approach to diagnosing rotating machines using an artificial neural network, the training of which does not require data from the damaged machine. This is a new approach not previously found in the literature. Until now, neural networks have been used for machine diagnosis in the form of classifiers, where data from individual faults were required. A new diagnostic parameter rDPNS (Relative Differences Product of Network Statistics) as a function of the machine's shaft order was proposed as a kind of new order spectrum independent of the machine's operating conditions. The presented work analyses the use of the proposed method to diagnose misalignment and unbalance. The results of an experiment carried out in the laboratory demonstrated the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Competition authorities in countries in development in Europe have a long way to go until they meet the EU standards. Although the local legislation in non-EU members is harmonized with EU legislation for the most part, the enforcement part is the one where obstacles are traditionally more challenging, and Serbia is no exception to this rule. Serbia has had its share of problems when trying to enforce rules on protection of competition, and some of those battles are still being fought, however, the national competition authority now also needs to face rapid changes that come with emerging markets, especially e-commerce. Although e-commerce itself may facilitate anti-competitive behaviors, it seems that they may also have had an effect of a much-needed nudge for the Serbian Commission for the Protection of Competition (CPC) to finally dive into variety of enforcement powers that they have been entrusted with.
Les autorités de la concurrence des pays européens en développement ont encore un long chemin à parcourir avant d’atteindre les normes européennes. Bien que la législation nationale des pays qui ne sont pas membres de l’UE soit en grande partie harmonisée avec la législation européenne, c’est au niveau de l’application que les obstacles sont traditionnellement les plus difficiles à surmonter. La Serbie ne fait pas exception à cette règle. La Serbie a connu sa part de problèmes lorsqu’elle a tenté de faire respecter les règles de protection de la concurrence. Alors que certaines de ces batailles sont encore en cours, l’autorité serbe de la concurrence doit désormais également faire face aux changements rapides qui accompagnent les marchés émergents, en particulier le commerce électronique.
