Opis:
The article is an introduction to the issue of Polish literature written in Germany after 1989. The first part of the work focuses around the current literary discussions on defining and developing the terminology and methods enabling research into this new literature – written abroad after the fall of the Iron Curtain. Post-emigration literature, migration literature, minority literature, multi-, inter-, trans-cultural and diasporic literature – these are only a few of the suggested terms. The second part of the article refers to the works of selected representatives of Polish literature written after 1989 and the issues they discuss in their works. The purpose of the article is to briefly present the complexity of an important problem in the views of Polish, German and Slavic philologists. At the same time, it aims to show that study of the phenomenon in question is still insufficient.

Opis:
Autorka prezentuje w artykule trzy scenariusze własnego pomysłu z zakresu edukacji regionalnej, wielo- i międzykulturowej.
In the article the authoress presents three scenarios of her own idea in the regional multi- and intercultural education. The classes proposed are meant to be conducted during additional hours, and are directed to the young people from the district of Andrychów (małopolska province, the area of Wadowice). In 2012 she had begun the research in the field of additional classes, which were held in the district of Andrychów for the gymnasial and high school students with special educational needs. The preliminary results of the research show that some of the schools realize the elements of regional education during “History Classes”, “History Club”, but the classes in multi- and intercultural education are not conducted. It seems that creating the cycle of scenarios in the field of multi- and intercultural education has been justified; and not only should these classes be held during additional school hours, which primary subject is history, but also during classes and clubs which allow students to gain the knowledge, attitudes and skills arising from the realization of the aims of multi- and intercultural education. Such classes should be introduced in the nearest future and the authoress hopes that her sce- narios will become an inspiration for creating them on the teachers’, students’ or parents’ (guardians’) initiative.

Opis:
This paper examines the public debate about Dutch tradition of Sinterklaas (Saint-Nicolas) and particularly the character of Zwarte Piet, the black-faced helper. His apparent racist nature has been subject of debate in Dutch media for years. However, in 2013 the debate escalated and provoked social conflicts and verbal aggression. The paper gives some explanations why this happened. The case of Zwarte Piet is noteworthy because it shows that Dutch society, well-known for being tolerant and open-minded, is not entirely free of ethnic and national tensions. This Old Dutch tradition that had been shaped in the times of colonialism and slavery, has become a hot issue in todays’ multicultural society. The paper includes considerations concerning the emergence of social conflicts and the meaning of postmodern national and ethnic identity. Additionally, it discusses the role of social media in fuelling the debate. Conclusions are based on analysis of social media content (television, Internet) and publications in the Dutch press from October to December 2013.

Opis:
W 2002 r. wprowadzono istotne zmiany w sposobie wybierania wójtów, burmistrzów i prezydentów miast, tj. powszechność i bezpośredniość wyboru w systemie większościowym.
In 2002, significant changes were introduced in the manner of choosing commune heads, mayors and city presidents, i.e. the universality and directness of the election in the majority system. The new rules of choice influenced local democracy. Therefore, the phenomenon of multi-incumbency among commune heads in 2002–2014 may be a picture of the trust of the rural community to local politicians and their support. The article explored the relationship between gender, age, education of candidates and the phenomenon of multi-sovereignty of gmts. In addition, an answer was sought as to whether the place of election and office (geographical criterion – rural gminas by voivodships) affects re-election. The work assumes that the “eternal commune head” is a person who holds office in the same place for at least three terms.

Opis:
William S. Burroughs (1914-1997), one of the most controversial American writers of the 20th century, is an example of a "total artist", who does not limit himself to one genre or medium. He is best known for being an experimental writer, the co-creator of the avant-garde, "cut-ups" technique - a variant of collage. His cut-ups, however, were not limited to literature, as he was also the author of musical recordings, experimental videos and various visual art projects. These were collaborative undertaking that the artist carried out with his friends - mainly with  Brion Gysim (painter), Ian Sommerville (electronics technitian and computer programmer) and Anthony Balch (film director). This article discussed William Burroughs' lesse-known works like, The Third Mind, As Pook Is Here, and The Book of Breeething as they are multi-media, interdysciplinary projects, created with the help of popular painters or illustrators, e.g. Bob Gale or Malcolm McNeil, and best demonstrate Burroughs' unconventional approach towards collaboration and the crossing of boundaries between different forms of art. The article also briefly comments on Burroughs' final decision to turn to painting and his eccentric "Shotgun Art".

Analysis of online available references suggests that circular characteristics observed around Aegean Sea in southern Europe may represent protobasin class of impact craters, which small central peak and surrounded peak ring appear to be formed by the Cyclades. Thinner crust, upper mantle deformation (uplift), recognition of basin in upper mantle re-filled with rocks having lower density than surrounding mantle, central Aegean Sea area free of sediments and almost perfect circular anomaly of density with diameter over 500 km are only few arguments which may indicate its real origin. The strongest fact standing for hypothesis of impact is presence of deep, lithospheric fracture zones with both circular and radial character, detected up to the distance of ~516 km from common geometric point of all rings (providing estimated diameter of the largest circle over 1000 km). Existence of pseudotachylite veins and breccias in central Cyclades are contributory evidence. Mélange covered by Fe-Ni rich ores in Jurassic/Cretaceous boundary, if related to impact, may give clue to explanation of localized in Europe Tithonian mass extinction event 145 Ma. However, pseudotachylites and breccias can be produced by endogenic processes (e.g., plate tectonics). A further research is required to find evidence of passage of shock wave through target rocks.

Opis:
In modern nanomaterial production, including those for medical purposes, carbon based materials are important, due to their inert nature and interesting properties. The essential attribute for biomaterials is their biocompatibility, which indicates way of interactions with host cells and body fluids. The aim of our work was to analyze two types of model carbon layers differing primarily in topography, and developing their interactions with blood plasma proteins. The first layer was formed of pyrolytic carbon C (CVD) and the second was constructed of multi-walled carbon nanotubes obtained by electrophoretic deposition (EPD), both set on a Ti support. The performed complex studies of carbon layers demonstrate significant dissimilarities regarding their interaction with chosen blood proteins, and points to the differences related to the origin of a protein: whether it is animal or human. However the basic examinations, such as: wettability test and nano sctatch tests were not sufficient to explain the material properties. In contrast, Raman microspectroscopy thoroughly decodes the phenomena occurring at the carbon structures in contact with the selected blood proteins. The 2D correlation method selects the most intense interaction and points out the different mechanism of interactions of proteins with the nanocarbon surfaces and differentiation due to the nature of the protein and its source: animal or human. The 2D correlation of the Raman spectra of the MWCNT layer+HSA interphase proves an increase in albumin β-conformation. The presented results explain the unique properties of the Clayers (CVD) in contact with human albumin.

Opis:
This paper presents a developed method of 3D maps integration based on overlapping regions detection and matching that works without an initial guess about transformation between maps. The presented solution is based on a classic pipeline approach from computer vision that has been applied to the 3D maps integration with multiple improvements related to model extraction and the descriptors matching. The process of finding transformation between maps consists of three steps. The first one is the extraction of the model from one of the maps. Then the initial transformation is estimated between extracted model and another map based on feature extraction, description, and matching. The assumption is that the maps have an overlapping area that can be used during the feature‐based alignment. In the last step, the initial so‐ lution is corrected using local alignment approaches, for example, ICP or NDT. The maps are stored in the octree based representation (octomaps) but during transformation estimation, a point cloud representation is used as well. In addition, the presented method was verified in various experiments: in a simulation, with wheeled robots, and with publicly available datasets. Eventually, the solution can be applied to many robotic applications related to the exploration of unknown environments. Nevertheless, so far it was validated with a group of wheeled robots. Furthermore, the developed method has been implemented and released as a part of the open‐source ROS package 3d_map_server.

We apply Bayesian inference to estimate transformation matrix that converts vector of industry outputs from NACE Rev. 1.1 to NACE Rev. 2 classification. In formal terms, the studied issue is a representative of the class of matrix balancing (updating, disaggregation) problems, often arising in the field of multi- sector economic modelling. These problems are characterised by availability of only partial, limited data and a strong role for prior assumptions, and are typically solved using bi-proportional balancing or cross-entropy minimisation methods. Building on Bayesian highest posterior density formulation for a similarly structured case, we extend the model with specification of prior information based on Dirichlet distribution, as well as employ MCMC sampling. The model features a specific likelihood, representing accounting restrictions in the form of an underdetermined system of equations. The primary contribution, compared to the alternative, widespread approaches, is in providing a clear account of uncertainty.

Negotiation is an interaction that happens in multi-agent systems when agents have conflicting objectives and must look for an acceptable agreement. A typical negotiating situation involves two agents that cannot reach their goals by themselves because they do not have some resources they need or they do not know how to use them to reach their goals. Therefore, they must start a negotiation dialogue, taking also into account that they might have incomplete or wrong beliefs about the other agent’s goals and resources. This article presents a negotiating agent model based on argumentation, which is used by the agents to reason on how to exchange resources and knowledge in order to achieve their goals. Agents that negotiate have incomplete beliefs about the others, so that the exchange of arguments gives them information that makes it possible to update their beliefs. In order to formalize their proposals in a negotiation setting, the agents must be able to generate, select and evaluate arguments associated with such offers, updating their mental state accordingly. In our approach, we will focus on an argumentation-based negotiation model between two cooperative agents. The arguments generation and interpretation process is based on belief change operations (expansions, contractions and revisions), and the selection process is a based on a strategy. This approach is presented through a high-level algorithm implemented in logic programming. We show various theoretical properties associated with this approach, which have been formalized and proved using Coq, a formal proof management system. We also illustrate, through a case study, the applicability of our approach in order to solve a slightly modified version of the well-known home improvement agents problem. Moreover, we present various simulations that allow assessing the impact of belief revision on the negotiation process.

Multi-Criteria Group Decision Making (MCGDM) aims to find a unique agreement from a number of decision makers/users by evaluating the uncertainty in judgments. In this paper, we present a General Type-2 Fuzzy Logic based approach for MCGDM (GFLMCGDM). The proposed system aims to handle the high levels of uncertainties which exist due to the varying Decision Makers’ (DMs) judgments and the vagueness of the appraisal. In order to find the optimal parameters of the general type-2 fuzzy sets, we employed the Big Bang-Big Crunch (BB-BC) optimization. The aggregation operation in the proposed method aggregates the various DMs opinions which allow handling the disagreements of DMs’ opinions into a unique approval. We present results from an application for the selection of reading lighting level in an intelligent environment. We carried out various experiments in the intelligent apartment (iSpace) located at the University of Essex. We found that the proposed GFL-MCGDM effectively handle the uncertainties between the various decision makers which resulted in producing outputs which better agreed with the users’ decision compared to type 1 and interval type 2 fuzzy based systems.

Requirements on DWDS availability restrict the usability of the real plant in the design phase. Thus, a proper model is crucial. Within this paper a DWDS multi-species quality model for simulation and design is derived. The model is composed of multiple highly inter-connected modules which are introduced to represent chemical and biological species and (above all) their interactions. The chemical part includes the processes of chloramine decay with additional bromine catalysis and reaction with nitrogen compounds. The biological part consists of both heterotrophic and chemo-autotrophic bacteria species. The heterotrophic bacteria are assumed to consume assimilable organic carbon. Autotrophs are ammonia oxidizing bacteria and nitrite oxidizing bacteria species which are responsible for nitrification processes. Moreover, Disinfection By-Products (DBPs) are also considered. Two numerical examples illustrate the derived model’s behaviour in normal and disturbance operational states.
