This paper is an enquiry on the role of the philosophy in the theology according to the representatives the Lublin Philosophical School. This article is divided into three parts. In the first chapter the development of the relationship between the philosophy and the theology is presented within its historical perspective. The second part accounts for Stanisław Kamiński’s considerations about this subject. This philosopher emphasises the logical and the methodological aspects of the role of that the philosophy is to play within the theology. In the last chapter a solution for the problem is offered by M.A. Krąpiec’s Philosophy. In M. A. Krąpiec’s system the philosophy can give the theology the correct concept of the world and the human being. According to this Thinkers only the classical philosophy is appropriate for the theological reflection.

The article is intended to present arguments for the cultivation of philosophy as “sapiential” or wisdom-oriented knowledge whereby human knowledge is realized most fully. The author claims, first, that philosophy has indispensable heuristic value because it considers the understanding of the world and man in the context of the question “why;” the search for an answer to this fundamental question is an expression of the human person’s natural inclination to explain the reality in which he lives. Secondly, he argues that classical philosophy is not only the explanation of the reality, but it is a way of forming man; therefore it is a proposal for a method of philosophical education that is an interesting alternative to contemporary forms of practicism. The reflections are based on the legacy of the Lublin Philosophical School (Poland).

The article analyzes the metaphysical approach to the rational cognition of the world of persons and things. It shows the way in which metaphysicians reveal the essential and universal properties of the world and the laws that govern their being. Among these properties, the most important are as follows: to be a thing (that is, to have a concretely determined essence), to be one (that is, to be non-contradictory in itself), to be separate or distinct (that is, to be sovereign in being), and also to be a vehicle of truth, good, and beauty. Among the laws of being, in turn, the article indicates the law of identity, the law of non-contradiction, the law of the excluded middle, the law of the reason of being, the law of finality, and the law of perfection. These laws primarily show the source and foundation of the rational order.

The paper Słowacki Among Scholars is an attempt to look critically at contemporary research concerning Słowacki's work. It presents and assesses scholarly publications ordered according to the following principle: presentation of the successors and continuators of the so-called “Lublin school” of research on romantic literature (Seweryn, Pyczek, Kuczera-Chachulska); and then proving that re-editing old works on Słowacki (Bychowski, Słowacki and His Soul. A psychoanalytic study; Kleiner, Juliusz Słowacki, the History of His Work; Kowalczykowa, Słowacki; Treugutt, Beniowski. The Crisis of the Romantic Individualism) is appropriate. A special stress was has been put on presenting Toszyński's book The King-Spirit Inn. The Diary of Juliusz Słowacki's Last Years and Gacowa's work Juliusz Słowacki. A Bibliography of Polish Literature. A New Korbut. Hence the present treatise assumes a meta-scholarly shape and is a peculiar state of research; however, it focuses only on a quite subjective choice of the presented material. Reading contemporary works on Juliusz Słowacki's works allows the statement that up till now his work has provoked a lot of controversy and polemics. Scholarly investigation most often focuses on Słowacki's mystical works. Also very often it can be noticed that the interpretative plane of Słowacki's literary works is largely influenced by his biography.

According to the author, we live in the world which requires us to better understand the relationship between humans and technology, and especially technological artifacts. The author claims that this relationship, at least partially, can be explained in the framework of philosophy cultivated by the Lublin School of Philosophy represented by Mieczysław A. Krąpiec and his concepts of two intentionalites. However, in order to do justice to the human–artifact relationship two concepts of intentionality as elaborated by Krąpiec seem to be insufficient. The author then proposes to supplement Krąpiec’s concepts of the first intentionality present in the maker’s design and the second intentionality present in the artifact as an embodiment of that design with a concept of the third intentionality which is the inventive contribution of a user.

The article is focused on the Lublin Philosophical School; it explains its name, presents its founders, reveals the causes of its rise, and introduce the specific character of the School’s philosophy. It starts with stating the fact that in the proper sense, the term “Lublin Philosophical School” describes a way of cultivating realistic (classical) philosophy developed in the 1950s by a group of philosophers at the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland. The Lublin Philosophical School is characterized by cognitive realism (the object of cognition is really existing being), maximalism (taking up all existentially important questions), methodological autonomy (in relation to the natural-mathematical sciences and theology), transcendentalism in its assertions (its assertions refer to all reality), methodological-epistemological unity (the same method applied in objectively cultivated philosophical disciplines), coherence (which guarantees the objective unity of the object), and objectivity (achieved by the verifiability of assertions on their own terms, which is achieved by relating them in each instance to objective evidence). The term is the name of the Polish school of realistic (classical) philosophy that arose as a response to the Marxism that was imposed administratively on Polish institutions of learning, and also as a response to other philosophical currents dominant at the time such as phenomenology, existentialism, and logical positivism.

W 100-letnią tradycję istnienia Wydziału Teologii na Katolickim Uniwersytecie Lubelskim Jana Pawła II wpisuje się dziedzina określana jako teologia fundamentalna. Znalazła się w programie studiów teologicznych od samego początku, tak iż z perspektywy ostatnich lat można powiedzieć o powstaniu lubelskiej szkoły teologii fundamentalnej. Autor niniejszego artykułu postanowił przedstawić, w jaki sposób w obrębie tej szkoły rozumie się Boże Objawienie, czyli jedno z istotnych zagadnień, które jest zarówno podstawą wszelkiej teologii, jak również przedmiotem namysłu w obrębie teologii fundamentalnej. W tym celu autor przedstawił najpierw znaczenie refleksji nad pojęciem Objawienia Bożego, a następnie wskazał autorów, których działalność naukowa związana była z istnieniem lubelskiej szkoły teologii fundamentalnej i którzy zajmowali się refleksją nad Bożym Objawieniem. W kolejnych punktach artykułu przedstawione zostało rozumienie Bożego Objawienia w kategoriach personalistycznych, właściwych dla wspomnianego środowiska teologicznego, znaczenie Bożego Objawienia w teologicznej interpretacji religii oraz pojmowanie wiarygodności Objawienia.
This article discusses the understanding of Divine Revelation within the Lublin School of Fundamental Theology. After presenting the significance of the reflection on the category of Revelation, the article presents the most important characteristics of the reflection on this category typical of the group of theologians associated with John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin, i.e. the personalist understanding of Divine Revelation, the meaning of Divine Revelation in the theological interpretation of religion and the comprehension of the Revelation’s credibility.

The article is concentrated on the Lublin Philosophical School which came into being in the institutional framework of the Department of Philosophy at the Catholic University of Lublin, Poland; it describes its achievements, which took place at different stages of the School’s development, as well as the School’s new initiatives and challenges. The development of the School was connected with the involvement of new people and successive generations of new students who joined in the cultivation of realistic philosophy. One can regard the years 1950–1966 as the first stage of the School’s development, in which the School’s program was formulated. The following stages are the years 1967–1980, and 1981–2004, and the years that follow, in which new generations of students who take up inquiries in the spirit of the School’s program arrive. The article also explains the reasons why today the Lublin Philosophical School cannot be identified with the Department of Philosophy of the Catholic University of Lublin, but rather with a special style of cultivating philosophy.

The concept of culture is not often discussed in the field of metaphysical anthropology. Nonetheless it is of particular importance to the thought of both the Lublin School of Metaphysics and the thought of Karol Wojtyła. This work aims to build a bridge between these two philosophical positions, and thus define the similarities between them and the influence of the former on the position of the latter, specifically with regards to their views concerning culture. Analysis is made of texts which directly reference certain positions regarding culture, with particular terms being analyzed and compared. Of particular note, emphases is given to the place of “interpersonal relations” and “action” generally.

The article presents the conception of personalism and the understanding of human person developed by two Polish philosophers: Karol Wojtyła and Mieczysław A. Krąpiec, the framers and the main representatives of the Lublin School of Philosophy. The author comes to the following conclusions: (1) Wojtyła’s and Krąpiec’s conception of personalism comes from experience and seeks verification in experience; it does not accept any a priori explanations or theses, though it does not shy away from drawing upon different branches of knowledge in its attempts to broaden experience, being aware that not everything is given to immediate experiential perception; (2) Wojtyła’s and Krąpiec’s personalism wants to draw on the whole philosophical tradition, taking into account, at the same time, the findings of different sciences of man or humanities which broaden the experience of man or contribute something to the interpretation of experience; (3) bringing together genetic empiricism and methodical rationalism, Wojtyła and Krąpiec are able to avoid radicalism in the explanation of man, making a successful attempt to join in a complementary way these aspects of personal human being which carry some opposition; (4) Wojtyła’s and Krąpiec’s conception of person does not bear any traces of antagonism since it is not directed against anyone; in the light of this conception every human person has a character of the honest good which is the unconditional good, that is the highest and the ultimate good not competing with the value of anything else; (5) Wojtyła and Krąpiec prove that the conception of human person lies at the basis of understanding society, culture, ethics, law, politics, economy, art, and even religion.

Obchodząca jubileusz 50-lecia istnienia lubelska szkoła pedagogiki specjalnej została stworzona przez Profesor Zofię Sękowską, zasłużonego pracownika UMCS w Lublinie. Charakterystycznymi cechami tej nowoczesnej i twórczej koncepcji psychopedagogiki specjalnej są interdyscyplinarność, głęboki humanizm i antropocentryzm. Te cechy mają swój wyraz zarówno w metodologii badań naukowych, rozwiązywaniu złożonych problemów badawczych i diagnostycznych, opracowywaniu koncepcji, oraz metod oddziaływania pedagogiki specjalnej w płaszczyźnie edukacji, terapii, rehabilitacji i resocjalizacji. Badania naukowe realizowane w Katedrze Psychopedagogiki Specjalnej i Socjopedagogiki Specjalnej UMCS stanowią kontynuację i twórcze rozwinięcie żywych i aktualnych tradycji lubelskiej szkoły pedagogiki specjalnej, akcentującej nierozerwalny związek i kluczowe znaczenie psychologicznych, pedagogicznych i socjologicznych problemów w teorii i praktyce pedagogiki specjalnej.
The Lublin school of special education, celebrating its 50th anniversary, was established by Professor Zofia Sękowska, a distinguished employee of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. The distinctive features of this modern and creative concept of special psychopedagogy are interdisciplinarity, deep humanism and anthropocentrism. These features are reflected both in the methodology of scientific research, solving complex research and diagnostic problems, developing concepts, and methods of influencing special education in the area of education, therapy, rehabilitation, and social rehabilitation. Scientific research carried out at the Department of Special Psychopedagogy and Special Sociopedagogy of UMCS is a continuation and creative development of the living and current traditions of the Lublin school of special education, emphasizing the inextricable relationship and the key importance of psychological, pedagogical, and sociological problems in the theory and practice of special education.

The article discusses the influence of the lublin school of thomistic philosophy on the scientific and cultural life of Poland and the world in the 20th century. The author shows that the lublin university, from the very beginning of its establishment, based its model of scientific life on the philosophy of St. thomas Aquinas. this resulted from papal teaching (leo Xiii, Pius Xi). The philosophy was developed remarkably during the communist era, when the Lublin Philosophical School was formed. it produced numerous publications and created an environment that had a great influence on the intellectual life of Poland. The lublin milieu, based on thomism, entered into an effective discourse with the ideological currents that swept the Western world. in the interwar period, this was Bolshevik Marxism and National Socialism. in modern times, this discourse is conducted with the postmodern current and the neo-Marxist philosophy of the Frankfurt School.

The term „Lublin Philosophical School” refers to the mode of philosophizing devised in the 1950’s at the catholic University of lublin. After a brief history, the paper first discusses some methodological features of this mode and the social role of philosophy as a self-awareness of culture. Employing the School’s philosophy, the paper then considers the issue of post-truth and that of the value-ladenness of science. The post-truth approach replaces evidence with emotions, and in consequence, argumentation is replaced with power. This in turn threatens the human person, her rationality and freedom. Admitting that science is value-laden and values are subjective leads to denying the cognitive status of science. Lublin philosophy offers such a concept of value and scientific knowledge which allows one to solve the problem created by the valueladenness of science. Thus, the paper shows that the lublin School’s philosophy can provide answers to contemporary problems and evaluate intellectual developments of culture.
