W nawiązaniu do współczesnej myśli teologicznej, która rozwinęła w sposób zupełnie nowy refleksję nad tajemnicą Boga jako Trójcy, artykuł przedstawia duchowość jedności zrodzoną w Trydencie w czasach drugiej wojny światowej z doświadczenia duchowego Chiary Lubich i grupy jej pierwszych towarzyszek. Odkrycie Boga jako Miłości Trzech Osób staje się nowym, mocnym fundamentem wiary i życia rodzącej się pierwszej wspólnoty focolare. Szczególne znaczenie dla podejmowanego tematu ma doświadczenie mistyczne przeżyte przez Chiarę Lubich latem 1949 roku. W dalszej części zostają więc przywołane dwa pisma z tego okresu, wskazujące na głęboką więź pomiędzy miłością do Boga a miłością do bliźniego, a także na wzajemność jako konstytutywny atrybut miłości chrześcijańskiej będącej życiem na ziemi na obraz Trójcy Świętej. Duchowość jedności, wnosząc niespotykane dotąd w historii Kościoła doświadczenie miłości trynitarnej jako miary życia codziennego, a także refleksji doktrynalnej, jawi się jako szczególna odpowiedź na wezwanie Novo millennio ineunte do budowania Kościoła Komunii.

The earlier Madame de Stael’s essay on relations between litera-ture and society, the Lukács, Goldman, Hauser and Sacarpit’s works on the influence of sociology into fiction, have founded the sociology of literature. In the following pages, we propose the reverse situation: how literature influences society. The XX century Latin American fiction is a good example of which we analyze its different periods.
Desde Madame de Stael y su ensayo precursor de 1800, pasando por Lukács, Goldman, Hauser y Escarpit se ha estudiado la influencia de la sociedad en la literatura. En estas páginas se aventura una propuesta inversa: la literatura tam-bién influye en la sociedad, extremo del que la narrativa latinoamericana del siglo XX es un buen ejemplo que se analiza en sus diferentes períodos: las “novelas de la tie-rra”, las de denuncia social y política, lo real maravilloso y la contemporánea narrati-va basada en la cultura popular.

Scanning tunneling spectroscopy was used to check the tunneling I-V characteristics of junctions formed by n-ZnO nanowires deposited on Si substrates with n- and p-type electrical conductivity (i.e. n-ZnO nanowire/n-Si and n-ZnO nanowire/p-Si junctions, respectively). Simultaneously, several phenomena which influence the measured I-V spectra were studied by atomic force microscopy. These influencing factors are: the deposition density of the nanowires, the possibility of surface modification by tip movement (difference in attraction forces between nanowires and the p-Si and n-Si) and the aging of the surface.

In this work we investigate the electronic structure of coupled 0D-2D nanostructures. The respective confined state energy levels in a quantum dot-quantum well system are calculated for various conduction band offsets - between the quantum dot and surrounding material. The calculated electron and hole energy levels with their wave functions allow determining if the wave functions are within the injector quantum well or within the quantum dot and if the carrier positions on the energy scale are appropriate from the point of view of a possible laser structure utilizing the so-called tunnel injection scheme. It is shown that for an adequate width of an injector quantum well and the conduction band offsets designing an optimal tunnel injection structure is possible.

The aim of the present paper is to place Guillaume Budé’s De Transitu Hellenismi ad Christianismum in relation to a paradox, a typical phenomenon in Renaissance culture. There are two different types of paradox: a rhetorical one, which is just an amusing intellectual play, and an existential one, which points at the contradictions of human condition. Budé is interested in the latter. In his work he deals with a paradoxical situation of the Christianity in 16th century France: a divergence between the knowledge of the Christian doctrine and its presence in the everyday life. This state is due to the influence exercised on the human soul by “the world” which weakens the faith. Budé points out that everyone can understand this by oneself on condition that one reflects on this problem in one’s mind. The mental activity lets a man resolve his nature’s paradoxes.
Dans le présent article, l’auteur situe le De Transitu Hellenismi ad Christianismum de Guillaume Budé par rapport au phénomène du paradoxe si caractéristique dans la culture de la Renaissance. Les paradoxes se divisent en deux catégories : on distingue le paradoxe rhétorique qui est un jeu intellectuel et le paradoxe existentiel qui signale les antinomies de la condition humaine. Budé ne pratique pas le paradoxe qui n’est qu’un exercice amusant de l’esprit, il s’intéresse plutôt aux paradoxes présents dans la réalité : dans le De Transitu il s’occupe de la condition du christianisme dans la France de son époque : de la divergence entre la connaissance de la doctrine et la pratique de celle-ci dans la vie. Il explique que cet état des choses résulte de la vie dans le monde dont les valeurs s’opposent aux valeurs chrétiennes et dont l’influence affaiblit la foi. L’idée principale de De Transitu est la conviction qu’un homme, être raisonnable, un chrétien du XVIe siècle, est capable de résoudre ce paradoxe par l’effort de l’esprit : la lecture et la méditation sur l’Écriture.

In contemporary literature and visual media one may encounter many references to hard-boiled fiction and film noir, yet the themes and characters depicted in the classic texts have been reinvented and altered. This article argues that L.A. Confidential may be perceived as a re-creation of American noir tradition and intends to prove that James Ellroy’s L.A. Confidential may be classified as hardboiled literature. Moreover, it scrutinizes the figures of detectives presented in both the book and the film, and analyzes the work in terms of retro-noir, focusing attention on the figure of femme fatale, the notion of the city and the on-screen violence.
Elementy literatury hard-boiled i filmu noir są obecne we współczesnej literaturze i mediach wizualnych, ale motywy i postacie z klasycznych tekstów noir zostały odkryte na nowo. Artykuł udowadnia, że film L.A. Confidential może być postrzegany jako odtworzenie amerykańskiej tradycji noir, a powieść Jamesa Ellroya zaklasyfikowana jako literatura hard-boiled. Autor analizuje postacie detektywów przedstawione zarówno w książce, jak i w filmie oraz bada dzieło w kontekście  retronoir, skupiając uwagę na postaci femme fatale, roli miasta i sposobie przedstawienia brutalności.

The multicultural city is a popular setting of many Chicana narratives and short stories. However, in many contemporary works by Chicana authors it loses its typical function of providing a background to the story solely and becomes an active agent that reflects the struggles of its inhabitants. This negotiation is also seen in the interplay between the barrio and the city that is depicted in Chicana literature. This depiction of the city as a place of dialogue, negotiation and struggle against conformity is especially interesting in the two works by two Chicana authors – The Faults by Terri de la Peña and Two Badges: The Lives of Mona Ruiz by Mona Ruiz. Terri de la Peña makes L.A. an arena of fight against sexual conformity, male violence, and against conforming to restricting social norms. Ruiz, on the other hand, concentrates on the relation between the barrio and the city. In her personal story she presents different aspects of non-conformity, which is especially visible in the transformation of her own life, (namely her passage from a gang member to a policewoman in Santa Ana) and her struggle not to conform in both situations. The aspect of dialogue and negotiation is emphasized in both books at the linguistic level, as well, as both authors use code-switching. The purpose of my paper is to compare the two works and analyze the portrait of a contemporary multicultural city that emerges from these books, concentrating on the aspect of the city as a place of (non)conformity in terms of gender, ethnicity, sexuality and class.

Two concentric two-dimensional GaAs/(Al,Ga)As nanorings in a normal magnetic field are theoretically studied. The single-band effective mass approximation is adopted for both the electron and the hole states, and the analytical solutions are given. We find that the electronic single particle states are arranged in pairs, which exhibit anticrossings and the orbital momentum transitions in the energy spectrum when magnetic field increases. Their period is essentially determined by the radius of the outer ring. The oscillator strength for interband transitions is strongly reduced close to each anticrossing. We show that an optical excitonic Aharonov-Bohm effect may occur in concentric nanorings.

Hybrid molecules formed by coupling semiconductor quantum dots to metal nanoparticle nanoantennas provide a new paradigm for directed nanoscale transfer of quantum information. To assess this possibility, we study theoretically the response of these hybrid molecules to applied optical fields. Quantum-coherent time-evolution of the semiconductor quantum dots in the hybrid molecule is found by solving the semiconductor quantum dot density matrix equations. We study hybrid molecules in the weak and strong coupling regimes. In strongly driven, strongly dipole-coupled semiconductor quantum dot-metal nanoparticle hybrids with spherical metal nanoparticles, interference, dispersion near resonance and self interaction define the metal nanoparticle/semiconductor quantum dot coupling and lead to the Fano resonances, exciton induced transparency, suppressed semiconductor quantum dot response and bistability. More complicated response can be tailored by using metal nanoparticle shape and the placement of semiconductor quantum dots to control the local near-fields that couple the metal nanoparticles and semiconductor quantum dots. We describe how coupling to metal nanoparticle dark modes and higher order multipolar modes impact interference and self-interaction effects. The physics of the metal nanoparticle/semiconductor quantum dot coupling is outlined.

It has recently been shown that potential fluctuations in a wetting layer, which accompanies InAs/GaAs quantum dots can localize excitons. Neutral excitons and biexcitons and charged excitons were identified. In this communication we report on studies of properties of the excitons over wide temperature range (T < 70 K). The micro-photoluminescence measurements enable investigation of excitons localized in a single potential fluctuation. Temperature-induced broadening of the neutral exciton as well as a quenching of the charged exciton at temperatures higher than 50 K are observed and discussed.

Some recent highlights of our optical studies on single and coupled semiconductor quantum dots are reviewed. In the first part, we concentrate on the role of spins and spin-spin interaction in nonmagnetic and magnetic single quantum dots. In the case of strictly resonant excitation of the ground state in self-assembled CdSe/ZnSe quantum dots, we find an exciton spin relaxation time, which exceeds the recombination lifetime significantly. Linear polarization has to be used for these experiments, as the electron-hole exchange interaction lifts the spin degeneracy and the eigenstates are linear combinations of spin-up and spin-down excitons. In a magnetic quantum dot, the exchange interaction between carrier spins and the spins of magnetic ions is shown to be responsible for giant magneto-optical effects. We demonstrate the formation of zero-dimensional magnetic polarons and we succeeded in measuring the magnetization on a scale of a few nanometers using the characteristic photoluminescence signal of individual quantum dots as experimental monitor. The second part is devoted to pairs of single quantum dots. On one hand, single exciton tunneling within an individual quantum dot pair is demonstrated studying single pairs of vertically correlated strain-induced and self-organized quantum dots. On the other hand, we show that in a pair of lithographically defined single dots with strongly different g-factors the energy spacing between the dot ground states can be tuned in an external magnetic field by about 10 meV, giving access to a controlled coupling between two individual quantum dots.

W trakcie prac nad rekonstrukcją księgozbioru kolegium jezuitów w Poznaniu uwagę zwróciły trzy woluminy w charakterystycznych flamandzkich oprawach plakietowych. Oprawy wykonano w Leuven, w warsztatach introligatorskich monogramistów „IP” (Jacob Pandelaert?) oraz „IB” (Jacob Bathen). Dwa woluminy znajdują się obecnie w Bibliotece Uniwersyteckiej w Uppsali, a jeden w Bibliotece Uniwersyteckiej w Poznaniu. To klocki introligatorskie zawierające łącznie 11 dzieł. W artykule opisano historię tych trzech woluminów. Dzięki analizie licznych not marginalnych ustalono, że pierwszym właścicielem ksiąg był pisarz, humanista i reformator Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski (ca 1503–1572). Zakupił je w Leuven najpewniej we wrześniu 1549 roku. Później księgi trafiły w ręce Stanisława Karnkowskiego (1520–1603), który przekazał je poznańskim jezuitom. Artykuł wzbogaca wiedzę o prywatnym księgozbiorze Modrzewskiego. Wśród odnalezionych dzieł na szczególną uwagę zasługują świadomie zebrane przez Modrzewskiego edycje prac Piotra Ramusa (Pierre’a de la Ramée) i Joachima Periona.
During works on the reconstruction of the book collection from the Jesuit College in Poznań the researchers came across three volumes with characteristic Flemish Panel-Stamped decorated bindings, in which designs were stamped into the leather cover by a block, into which the image had been carved or incised. The bindings were made in Leuven, in bookbinding workshops that placed their monograms of the following letter combinations: “IP” (Jacob Pandelaert?) and “IB” (Jacob Bathen). Two of the volumes are now kept in the University Library in Uppsala, while one of them is held in Poznań University Library. These are bookbinding blocks that in total include 11 works. The present article presents the history of the three volumes. Following an analysis of the numerous marginal notes included in the volumes it was possible to establish that that the first owner of the volumes had been the writer, humanist and reformer Andrzej Frycz Modrzewski (ca. 1503–1572). Modrzewski had most probably purchased the volumes in Leuven in September 1549. Subsequently, the books were taken over by Stanisław Karnkowski (1520–1603), who donated them to Poznań-based Jesuits. This article contributes to the knowledge on the private book collection of Modrzewski. A particular attention should be given to the editions of the works of Piotr Ramus (Pierre de la Ramée) and Joachim Perion, specifically collected for a purpose by Modrzewski.

Artykuł koncentruje się na metaforze theatrum mundi u Calderóna, rozpatrywanej w kontekście debaty dotyczącej metateatralnego wymiaru jego sztuk. Omówiono badania na ten temat poprzedzające teorię metateatru Lionela Abla (Ernst R. Curtius, Walter Benjamin, Jean Jacquot), a także późniejszą debatę na temat metateatru wśród hiszpańskich badaczy Złotego Wieku i jej implikacje dla badań nad komedią (Henryk Ziomek, Catherine Larson, Thomas A. O'Connor, F.P. Casa, Urszula Aszyk, Katarzyna Mroczkowska-Brand, Jonathan Thacker, Graciela Balestrino, Kasia Lech). Koncepcja metateatru Sławomira Świontka zostaje zastosowana do analizy La vida es sueño i El gran teatro del mundo, które okazują się paradygmatycznymi i wzorcowymi spektaklami metateatralnymi. Autorka omawia metawypowiedzeniowe właściwości dialogu dramatycznego i jego samozwrotność u Calderóna i podkreśla znaczenie efektu mise en abyme implikowanego przez wyraźnie autorefleksyjne cechy sztuk. Wykorzystanie środków metateatralnych można zaobserwować w całej twórczości dramaturga, w komediach (La vida es sueño i Amor, honor y poder), autos sacramentales (El gran teatro del mundo i La protestación de la fe), a także entremés (El toreador) i mojiganga (Mundinovo, Las visiones de la muerte). Wynikająca z tego metateatralna jakość, osiągnięta dzięki skupieniu się Calderóna na relacjach widz-aktor i rzeczywistość-fikcja, pozwala widzom spojrzeć w lustro teatru, aby zobaczyć reprodukujące się własne odbicia, czyli teatr świata.
The article focuses on the theatrum mundi metaphor in Calderón, viewed in the context of the debate concerning the metatheatrical dimension of his plays. It discusses studies on the subject preceding the metatheatre theory by Lionel Abel (Ernst R. Curtius, Walter Benjamin, Jean Jacquot), as well as the ensuing debate on metatheatre among Spanish Golden Age scholars and its implications for the comedia research (Henryk Ziomek, Catherine Larson, Thomas A. O’Connor, F. P. Casa, Urszula Aszyk, Katarzyna Mroczkowska-Brand, Jonathan Thacker, Graciela Balestrino, Kasia Lech). Sławomir Świontek’s concept of metatheatre is applied to analyse La vida es sueño and El gran teatro del mundo, and both are shown to be paradigmatic and exemplary metatheatre plays. The author discusses the meta-enunciative properties of dramatic dialogue and its metatheatrical cues in Calderón and underscores the importance of the mise en abyme effect implied by the distinctly self-reflexive qualities of the plays. The use of metatheatrical devices is studied throughout the playwright’s work, in the comedia  (La vida es sueño and Amor, honor y poder), auto sacramental (El gran teatro del mundo and La protestación de la fe), as well as entremés (El toreador), and mojiganga (Mundinovo, Las visiones de la muerte). The resulting metatheatrical quality, achieved through Calderón’s targeting on the spectator-actor and reality-fiction relations, lets the audience look into the mirror of theatre to see infinitely reproducing reflexions of themselves, viz. the theatre of the world.

Exploring the ways to develop a comprehensive learner-friendly telecollaborative model of learning led to the introduction of nonlinear dynamic motivation-oriented model. To foster self-regulated learner autonomy, the model aims at recruiting the potential behind formulaic sequences for L2 comprehension-production in response to immediate processing demands as well as nonlinearity and dynamicity of motivational factors at individual level. Drawing on different theories and findings (e.g. complex dynamic systems, input processing model, motivational task processing model, etc.), the model presents a dynamic conceptualization of language learning to develop language skills in CALL context. To test the model and the validity of the suggested strategies, a mixed methods approach via questionnaire, interview and learner-self report was conducted in a term-long study among 47 EFL learners. The measures of performance taken before and after the intervention indicated improvement and confirmed the effectiveness of NDM-oriented telecollaborative model’s strategies at three levels of sociolinguistic, ethnolinguistic, and psycholinguistic. The interview data reflected participants’ positive attitude towards their perceived improvement over the duration of the intervention. The effectiveness of the model at recruiting formulaic sequences with respect to nonlinearity and dynamicity of motivational factors at individual level is the main implication of the study for CALL pedagogy.
