Opis:
In this study strong HCl acid was titrated with a strong base of NaOH. Increasing pH values were observed during such titration. Depending on the existence of indicator in the solution, the equivalence point was determined when the color of the solution had turned into pink. After finding the equivalence point, images were taken after every addition of base to the acid solution. These images were evaluated using red, green and blue values of the pixels, through an image processing program. After analyzing the image results, it was found that the percentage of red values had increased with the increasing pH value. As a result, the image processing techniques can be used as an alternative approach to find pH values of titrated solutions.

This research concerns the development of solvent-cast lyophilised composite sponges in the bioactive glass-alginate-chitosan system for alveolar bone tissue maintenance following tooth extraction. Hydroxyapatite formed on the surfaces of pure alginate, 50:50 alginate:chitosan blend and pure chitosan sponges blended with 10 wt.% bioactive glass within 7 days of exposure to simulated body fluid, indicating that they possess the potential to stimulate bone tissue formation. In the absence of bioactive glass, pure chitosan sponges also demonstrated in vitro bioactivity, to a lesser extent; unlike pure alginate and 50:50 alginate:chitosan blend, which did not. All samples formed macroporous sponges whose biocompatibility with human osteosarcoma cells increased as a function of chitosan-content. Polyelectrolyte complex formation between alginate and chitosan, and the incorporation of bioactive glass were found to increase the swelling capacity of the sponges in SBF. The findings of this study demonstrate that, bioactive glass-chitosan sponges are the favoured candidates for alveolar bone tissue augmentation as their rate of hydroxyapatite formation and biocompatibility are superior to those of the other samples.

The limiting partial molar volumes and isentropic compressibilities of 2-methylpyridine and 2,6-dimethylpyridine in aqueous and methanolic solutions were calculated from the densities and speeds of sound at 293.15 and 298.15 K. All the limiting functions are smaller than the respective functions for the pure amines, due to the hydrogen bonds O-H... N between the amine molecules and those of water or methanol. The standard functions of transfer of the amines from methanol to water are negative which results from different nature of interactions in the aqueous and methanolic solutions. Most probably, the hydrophobic effect contributes to the limiting partial volumes and compressibilities of the amines diluted in water. That makes them smaller than the respective functions for the amines in methanol.

The aim of the contribution is to introduce a high performance magnesium conducting polymer electrolytes (PEs) comprising hybrid of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA), magnesium bromide ($MgBr_2$) and tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether (TEGDME) as plasticizer are prepared at various compositions by solution cast technique. X-ray diffraction and thermogravimetric analyses suggest a substantial structural modification, decrease in crystallinity and various interactions in the polymer electrolyte components due to addition of TEGDME. Also there is a marked decrease in $T_{g}$ with increasing TEGDME. The conductivity conformation with the addition of plasticizer which can be explained on the basis of dissociation of ion aggregates formed in $PVA-MgBr_2$ polymer electrolytes at higher concentrations of the salt. The ionic conductivity of the polymer electrolyte increased with addition of salt and plasticizer reached to the highest conductivity value of ≈ $10^{-6} S cm^{-1}$ at 0.8 ml TEGDME. The frequency dependence of AC conductivity obeys the Jonscher power law. The estimated value of $Mg^{+2}$ ion transference number is found to be 0.68 for high conducting film. The open circuit voltage of a solid state battery which based on the optimum polymer electrolyte with a configuration Mg|PE|$V_2O_5$ is 1.5 V. Also this battery has exhibited a discharge capacity ≈3.78 mAh/g. The discharge characteristics are found to be satisfactory as a laboratory cell.

Opis:
The performance of an isothermal endoreversible four-reservoir chemical potential transformer, in which the mass transfer between the mass reservoir and the working medium obeys diffusive law, is analyzed and optimized in this paper. The relation between the rate of energy pumping and the coefficient of performance of the isothermal chemical potential transformer is derived by using finite-time thermodynamics. Moreover, the optimal operating regions and the influences of some parameters on the performance of the cycle are studied. The results obtained herein can provide some new theoretical guidelines for the optimal design of a class of apparatus such as mass exchangers, as well as electrochemical, photochemical, and solid-state devices, and the fuel pumps for solar-energy conversion systems.

Opis:
Production of the ionic fragments of the same chemical composition due to a low-energy electron impact on the glycine, alanine, and methionine amino acid molecules has been studied both experimentally and theoretically. The mass-spectrometric technique was applied to detect the above ionic fragments within the 1-720 a.m.u. mass range with the ± 0.25 a.m.u. resolution, while the density functional theory based theoretical approach allowed the relevant species to be identified and the mechanisms of their production to be clarified. A special attention has been paid to analysis of the geometrical structures of the molecules under study as well to finding the appearance potentials of their fragments with the accuracy of ±0.1 eV.

The room temperature $\text{}^{57}Fe$ Mössbauer spectra for binary iron-based solid solutions $Fe_{1-x}Al_x$, with x in the range 0.03 ≤ x ≤ 0.05, were analysed in terms of binding energy $E_b$ between two Al atoms in the Fe-Al system. The extrapolated values of $E_b$ for x= 0 were used for computation of the dilute-limit heat of solution of aluminium in iron. The results were compared with that resulting from the Miedema's model of alloys as well as those derived from the heat of formation of the system, obtained with both calorimetric measurements and theoretical calculations. The comparison shows that our Mössbauer spectroscopy findings are in good agreement with all the other results mentioned above.

The room temperature Mössbauer spectra of $\text{}^{57}Fe$ were measured for iron-based solid solutions $Fe_{1-x}Co_{x}$ and $Fe_{1-x}Ni_{x}$ with x in the range 0.01 ≤ x ≤ 0.05. The obtained data were analysed in terms of the binding energy $E_{b}$ between two Co or Ni atoms in the studied materials using the extended Hrynkiewicz-Królas idea. It was found that the energy is positive or the non-iron atoms interact repulsively. The extrapolated value of $E_{b}$ for x=0 was used for computation of the enthalpy of solution of cobalt and nickel in iron. The results were compared with our previous Mössbauer spectroscopy findings, the values resulting from the Miedema's model of alloys and the data derived from the enthalpy of formation of the Fe-Co and Fe-Ni systems, obtained with calorimetric methods. The comparison shows that the present results are in a qualitative agreement with the Miedema's model predictions and calorimetric measurements but they are at variance with the previous Mössbauer spectroscopy findings.

Density (ρ), refractive index (n), ultrasonic velocity (u), and viscosity (η) were measured for the binary mixtures formed by butylamine with 1-butanol and tert-butanol at temperatures 293, 303, and 313 K over the entire composition range. Excess molar volume V$\text{}_{m}^{E}$, molar refraction deviation ΔR$\text{}_{m}$, deviation in ultrasonic velocity Δu, viscosity deviation Δη, and excess Gibb's free energy of activation for viscous flow ΔG$\text{}^{*E}$ were derived from the experimental data and the computed results were fitted to the Redlich-Kister polynomial equation. The values of V$\text{}_{m}^{E}$, ΔR$\text{}_{m}$, Δu, Δη, and ΔG$\text{}^{*E}$ were plotted against the mole fraction of butylamine. The observed positive and negative values of excess parameters for both the mixtures were explained on the basis of intermolecular interactions present in these mixtures. The higher negative values of V$\text{}_{m}^{E}$ and ΔR$\text{}_{m}$ and positive values of Δu, Δη, and ΔG$\text{}^{*E}$ for butylamine + 1-butanol mixture suggest that specific interactions are taking place in butylamine + 1-butanol mixture, while weak dipole-dipole induced forces and dispersive forces seem to be responsible for butylamine + tert-butanol mixture. Furthermore, different empirical relations were used to correlate the binary refractive indices. An excellent agreement was found between experimental and theoretical values.

An attempt to describe excess molar functions of alkane + alcohol and alcohol + alcohol binary mixtures was made using the theoretical approach constructed on the basis of S-ERAS model and the chemical theory proposed by Campbell. The results obtained seem to be promising, however in order to complete the work, the procedure of determination of fitting parameters as well as relative magnitude of physical and chemical contributions to regarded excess molar quantities must be established.

Soft magnetic composites are readily used in the design of electromagnetic converters and electrical machines. In the paper, the magnetic properties of "home-made" cores made of iron powder and suspense polyvinyl chloride are examined. Samples were prepared by hot pressing of a PVC/Fe powder mixture with a different ratio of constituent components. Phase composition was investigated using an X-ray diffractometer and the presence of α-Fe was detected. Measurements of magnetic permeability revealed its allometric decrease with an increase of PVC content in composite. For the description of magnetization curves the phenomenological Jiles-Atherton model is used. The results of simulations are in a qualitative agreement with experiment.

A composite of polystyrene (PS)/ferroelectric barium stannate titanate (BST) with different BST concentration was prepared. The dielectric properties were measured using HP low impedance frequency analyzer. It is found that samples behaved as an RC network. Composites become more capacitive than resistive with increasing frequency while resistance decreases with increasing BST ceramic concentration. Temperature effects were monitored throughout the annealing process. It is found that the capacity and the ac conductivity increased after annealing while the bulk resistance decreased. Our results suggest that, the obtained material is expected to be a promising candidate for electronic ceramics. The study provides a better understanding of the relationship among these parameters.

We prove that tunable magnetic interaction in a two-qubit spintronic device can arise due to the mutual competition of the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida and double-exchange interactions. The values of induced electric dipoles (which arise when magnetic coupling is manipulated by the electric field) are calculated. We show that the dissipation of the energy during logic operations due to these parasitic dipoles can destroy quantum coherence in any quantum dot system.

The refractive indices, densities and ultrasonic velocities of binary liquid mixtures of tetrahydrofuran (THF) with methanol and o-cresol over the entire composition range have been measured at 293, 303 and 313 K. Refractive index, density and ultrasonic velocity data have been used to evaluate the molar refraction deviation $ΔR_{m}$, deviation in ultrasonic velocity Δu, excess internal pressure $π_{i}^{E}$, excess molar enthalpy $H_{m}^{E}$ and excess free volume $V_{f}^{E}$. The computed results of $ΔR_{m}$, Δu, $π_{i}^{E}$, $H_{m}^{E}$ and $V_{f}^{E}$ were fitted to the Redlich-Kister polynomial equation. These results suggest that specific strong interactions are taking place in THF + o-cresol mixture while dispersive forces seem to be responsible for behaviour of THF + methanol mixture. Further, experimental refractive index and density data of these mixtures were also used to test the validity of the empirical/semi-empirical relations and models for refractive index and density, respectively.
