Opis:
In this paper, hybrid diffractive-refractive multifocal intraocular lenses are proposed, which are intended to provide good visual acuity over a discrete spectrum of object distances most often encountered by patients. The proposed hybrid lenses have seven foci. It is shown that by the appropriate selection of modulation depth of a sinusoidal phase diffractive profile and the period of the sinusoid, sharp vision can be achieved for a set of distances such as 24, 29, 37, 49, 73, 145 cm, and infinity. Theoretical axial and lateral visual point spread functions are computed. An accommodative amplitude equivalent of the eye implanted with a multifocal intraocular lens is introduced and calculated for the proposed heptafocal intraocular lenses.

The modern theory concerning to the heating cased by powerful sound source is presented. In contrast to the well-known approach allowing to calculate slowly varying heating due to periodic ultrasound, any acoustic sources may be treated. Subtle temporal structure of thermal lens forming may be traced. Formulae governing the forming of the thermal lens by arbitrary (including non-periodic) source are presented. The process is illustrated by some figures.

Opis:
Silicone hydrogel (SiHy) contact lenses are a common form of correction of refractive errors prescribed by eye care professionals around the world. SiHy lenses perform in a complex environment, which is the surface of the eye and the tear film. Therefore, they are exposed to various factors, such as lipid deposits. The aims of this paper are to review available scientific reports on the study of SiHy lens interactions with lipids and search for further research objectives. A total of 57 publications were identified and reviewed, from 2003 to 2020. In general, SiHy lenses are more likely to accumulate lipid deposits than traditional hydrogel lenses, although there are significant differences between SiHy lens materials that may result from different methods used in the studies. The review includes studies on various aspects of interactions between lenses and lipids, such as those concerning the effectiveness of lipids removal from lenses by care solutions. The conclusion points out future research directions, such as measurements of lipid diffusion in SiHy lens' matrices.

This study aimed to analyze the impact of Zn on the growth and the antioxidant response of Lens culinaris. For this purpose, the seeds were germinated for 6 days in an MS/2 culture medium with different Zn concentrations. Malondialdehyde (MDA), total protein contents, and antioxidant enzymes activities were measured in both parts of the plant by spectrometry. The results showed that from the Zn concentration of 250 µM, the growth of lentils is inversely proportional to the concentration of Zn in the culture medium. The variations in the level of MDA are not very significant, but at 10 000 μM of Zn in the medium, the level becomes very important, whilst the total protein content decreased. Besides, the evaluation of enzymatic activities indicated that the decline of peroxidase (POD) is concomitant with the increase in glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and that glutathione S-transferase (GST), as well as catalase (CAT) reach their maximum activities at 10 000 µM and 3000 µM of Zn in upper parts and roots, respectively. These findings revealed that MDA is a real indicator of oxidative stress in Lens culinaris and that this plant is tolerant to the presence of Zn in the culture medium by developing a powerful antioxidant system, but beyond a certain concentration its antioxidant system becomes ineffective and the plant enters a stress state.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badań próbek ze stali stopowej X22CrMoV12-1 wytworzonych trzema metodami wielowarstwowego napawania proszkiem typu Stellit Co-6: metodą napawania laserowego, metodą napawania LENS (Laser Engineered Net Shaping) i metodą napawania plazmowego (PTA). Powierzchnie zewnętrzne napoin i przekroje poprzeczne próbek z wytworzonymi napoinami obserwowano na mikroskopie optycznym oraz badano wybrane właściwości użytkowe, takie jak: topografia powierzchni, mikrostruktura i twardość. Analizując powierzchnie przekrojów poprzecznych próbek po wielowarstwowym napawaniu nie stwierdzono pęknięć i nieciągłości w napoinie, w strefie połączenia materiału podłoża z napoiną ani w podłożu. W wyniku przeprowadzonych eksperymentów uzyskano napoiny o regularnym i powtarzalnym kształcie z charakterystyczną kierunkową krystalizacją. Uzyskano mikrostrukturę w kształcie iglastych dendrytów o różnych kierunkach wzrostu względem powierzchni podłoża. Twardość napoin napawanych laserowo i techniką LENS mieściła się w zakresie od 450 do 570 HV0,1, a napawanych plazmowo w zakresie od 320 do 440 HV0,1.
The paper presents the results of X22CrMoV12-1 alloy steel samples, prepared by three methods of multilayer powder padding using Stellit Co-6 type powder: method of laser padding, LENS (Laser Engineered Net Shaping) method, method of plasma padding (PTA). Using the optical microscope, the outer surfaces of the deposit and the cross sections of the samples with the generated deposits were observed. Selected usable properties such as surface topography, microstructure, hardness and erosion resistance were studied. No cracks and discontinuities were observed during the cross-sectional area analysis of samples after multilayering padding, in the bonding zone of the substrate material with the deposit, in the deposit and in the substrate. Because of the experiments, regular, repetitive shapes with characteristic directional crystallization were obtained. A dendrite-shaped microstructure was obtained, with different growth directions relative to the surface of the substrate. Hardness of deposits, which was laser-padded and padded using LENS technique, include in the range of 450 to 570 HV0,1, whereas plasma welded, was in the range of 320 to 440 HV0,1.

Prof. Otto Wichterle was one of the pioneers of modern soft contact lens industry; his work has made a significant impact on the ophthalmic world. 50 years ago, in 1961, Otto Wichterle produced the first soft contact lenses in his own kitchen by spin cast technique using a childrens mechanical kit Merkur and dynamo for bicycles. The same year he submitted a patent for HEMA (Hydroxy- ethylmethacrylate). Today, as a result of his fundamen- tal research millions of people around the world enjoy comfortable vision with soft contact lenses. Even after using modern Refractive Surgery techniques to improve vision, Contact Lenses are still important for people with refractive errors. They are necessary and helpful when dealing with Refractive Surgery complications (e.g. com- plications with the cut and irregularities of the cornea). In interactive discussions of treating remaining refractive errors after Refractive Surgery contact lenses will be one possible comfortable solution. Wichterle’s invention of the hydrophilic material HEMA (Hydroxyethylmethacrylate) is not only used for manufacturing soft, hydrophilic contact lenses, which he invented too, but can also be used for producing hydrophilic intraocular lenses. Wichterles inventions have changed the ophthalmic world fundamentally — in only 50 years!
Profesor Otto Wichterle był jednym z pionierów nowoczesnego przemysłu miękkich soczewek kontaktowych; jego praca wywarła ogromny wpływ na rozwój okulistyki. 50 lat temu, w 1961 roku, Otto Wichterle wyprodukował pierwsze miękkie soczewki kontaktowe w swojej kuchni, stosując technologię „spin cast” przy pomocy mechanicznych zestawów dla dzieci Merkur i dynama rowerowego. Tego samego roku złożył wniosek patentowy na HEMA (metakrylan hydroksyetylu). Obecnie w wyniku jego prac badawczych miliony ludzi na całym świecie korzystają z wyższego komfortu życia dzięki miękkim soczewkom kontaktowym. Nawet w czasach gdy dostępne są nowoczesne metody chirurgicznej korekcji wad wzroku, soczewki kontaktowe mają duże znaczenie dla osób z takimi wadami. Są one niezbędne w postępowaniu przy powikłaniach po chirurgicznych zabiegach refrakcyjnych (tj. zabiegach związanych z cięciem rogówki). Ponadto stosowane są w korygowaniu wad wzroku pozostałych po zabiegach refrakcyjnych. Hydro filny materiał HEMA (metakrylan hydroksyetylu) wynaleziony przez Wichterlego jest używany nie tylko do produkcji miękkich hydrofilnych soczewek kontaktowych, ale również do produkcji hydrofilnych soczewek wewnątrzgałkowych. Wynalazki Wichterlego zmieniły gruntownie świat okulistyki w zaledwie 50 lat.

In this text, I analyze Krzysztof Ptak’s contribution to such films as Kornblumenblau and Cynga by Leszek Wosiewicz, and 300 miles to heaven by Maciej Dejczera. These films belong to a time that can be characterized as a period of “hot times”, when Krzysztof Ptak was interested in using cinematographic methods to the limits of their possibilities. As far as the history of Polish cinema is concerned, it was then that Polish directors were looking for a new language to talk about the Polish past. Wosiewicz and Dejczer avoided the accusation of “americanization” of Polish cinema, which was charged to Władysław Pasikowski. This may be because Krzysztof Ptak was the cinematographer of their films.

Roughness of surface of Intraocular Lens plays an important role, which can provide important information on the interaction between the surface of the implanted lens and lens capsule, among others. Although surfaces appear smooth to the naked eye, they are quite rough at the microscopic levels. The paper presents a technique for measuring surface roughness using AFM. It was found that the size of the scan area does not significantly affect the two standards parameters describing the surface roughness profile (Sa and Sq), however, significantly affect the parameters describing the shape irregularities (Ssk and Ska).

This paper provides an overview of scientific and patent publications in furniture design and their connections from 1972-2020. The scientific publications were searched in the Scopus database, while the number of patent documents available in The Lens database was an indicator of the innovations in furniture. 1,465 scientific publications and 2,880,188 patent documents were identified. The results show that: authors from China and the USA published the largest number of scientific works, authors from the USA are the most often cited, there are 15 outstanding institutions from which the authors of the largest number of analyzed articles come, i.a.: University of Zagreb (Croatia), Poznań University of Life Sciences (Poland), Central South University of Forestry & Technology (China), Wood Technology Institute (Poland), Delft University of Technology (Netherlands) and others. The analysis of co-authorship shows cooperation in four groups of countries: (1) Brazil-Netherlands-Portugal, (2) the United States and a wide group of cooperating countries, (3) China-UK-Japan, and (4) Croatia-Poland-Turkey. The annual number of scientific publications and patent documents are strongly correlated. The increase in the number of scientific publications is much more than the increase in the number of patent documents. The statistical Granger causality test does not predict the patent documents' annual number trend by the scientific publications time series. The results presented in this article may facilitate scientific cooperation in "furniture design" showing leading authors and institutions.

The present paper describes some orientalist stereotypes concerning women and manifesting themselves in Le Harem entr’ouvert (1919), a short story collection by Aline Réveillaud de Lens (1881–1925), a French painter and writer, whose works are devoted mainly to North Africa. The paper focuses on three, most common, stereotypical representations of the Oriental woman according to which she is, firstly, a beautiful odalisque serving the man; secondly, extremely sensual and thus unfaithful and, finally, jealous and, sometimes, very cruel. The author attempts to explain the origins of those representations and to answer the question why A.-R. de Lens used them in her writings

Opis:
A design method of aspheric fisheye lens has been proposed in this paper, based on the requirements of automobile surround view system. The study has designed a kind of ultra-wide-angle fisheye lens, which only consists of a spherical glass lens and three aspherical plastic lenses. The maximum diameter of imaging aperture is 15. 3 mm; the working distance behind is 2.158 mm; the total length of system is 11.44 mm; the focal length is 0.97 mm; the viewing angle is 210°, and the modulation transfer function (MTF) curve is 0.35 at 60 lp/mm. Furthermore, a kind of a distortion correction algorithm for fisheye lens has been created, which calculates the position of the ideal image point with the actual image point and the obtained distortion curve and distortion model. The algorithm can correct the distorted image taken by a fisheye lens to an image without distortion, which is suitable for the human eye. The algorithm, which is simple and effective, has been applied to the automobile surround view system. It has been verified to be accurate and reasonable, after the comparison is made between the real image taken by a fisheye lens and the corrected image.

Experimental investigations were performed to evaluate the focusing properties of the plasma focus for high-energy intense ion beams manipulating. Magnetic probes and optical spectroscopy were used for temporal and spatial plasma geometry investigations. Ion beam portrait was determined at the luminescence screen. In the experiments performed, the focusing coefficient was obtained as the ten times beam compression at the 30 cm length. By variations of the gas volume input, gun voltage, time delay, magnetic field value etc. the dependence of focused ion beam diameter upon various parameters of the plasma focus lens has been investigated. It was revealed that the main focusing effect was caused by the azimuthal magnetic field of the currents carried by the plasma.

Chalcogenide glass in the ternary Ge-Sb-Se system is inherently moldable, thus being considered as a strong candidate material for use in infrared-transmitting lens applications from the viewpoint of thermal and mechanical stability. In an effort to experimentally determine compositional region suitable for the molded lens applications, we evaluate its compositional dependence of hardness. Among the constituent atoms, Ge content turns out to exert a most conspicuous correlation with hardness. This phenomenological behavior is then explained in connection with the structural evolution that Ge brings about.

Due to outstanding light shaping potential, freeform optical surfaces have been considered theoretically from centuries. Recently, they gained increased interest due to the availability of manufacturing technologies. Nevertheless, the design of freeform surfaces still becomes a challenge, associated with advanced mathematical concepts and significant computing power. In this work, a very interesting unification of theories is mentioned. It is shown how the problem of optimal redistribution of mass, analyzed in the 18th century, corresponds to the problem of optical beam shaping realized by freeform surface. Both issues are governed by the same partial differential equation. In the paper, a novel numerical algorithm for solving this partial differential equation is discussed. As an example, a design of freeform lens, capable of casting completely arbitrary shapes, is presented.

Opis:
Oxygen permeability seems to be the most important parameter characterize the contact lens. Lenses, which permeable more oxygen to the cornea are safer, reduce the risk of infection and provide greater comfort of wearing. Oxygen permeability of contact lenses might be calculated by analysis of porosity of its surface. With using special program the size and number of pores on definite area was calculated and dependence of permeability and hydration on porosity were established.

The paper presents new generation plasma optical devices based on the electrostatic plasma lens configuration that opens a novel attractive possibility for effective high-tech practical applications. Original approaches to use of plasma accelerators with closed electron drift and open walls for the creation of a cost-effective low-maintenance plasma lens with positive space charge and possible application for low-cost, low-energy rocket engine are described. The preliminary experimental, theoretical and simulation results are presented. It is noted that the presented plasma devices are attractive for many different applications in the state-of-the-art vacuum-plasma processing.

Fakoemulsyfikacja to powszechna procedura chirurgiczna, wykonywana na każdym oddziale okulistycznym. Dobra pooperacyjna ostrość wzroku jest pochodną wielu czynników przed-, śród- i pooperacyjnych, w tym prawidłowego pomiaru morfometrycznego gałki ocznej i kalkulacji mocy sztucznej soczewki z zastosowaniem odpowiedniej formuły obliczeniowej. Przystępując do operacji, okulista powinien dysponować szeroką wiedzą o potencjalnym wpływie modyfikacji techniki operacyjnej na pooperacyjną ostrość wzroku, ponieważ wykonanie dodatkowych manipulacji śródoperacyjnych może się wiązać z nieoczekiwaną pooperacyjną ametropią i z koniecznością korekty wartości refrakcyjnej wszczepianej soczewki wewnątrzgałkowej.
Phacoemulsification is a common surgical procedure performed in every ophthalmology department. Good postoperative visual acuity is the result of many pre-, intra and postoperative components, including correct morphometric measurement of the eyeball and calculation of the artificial lens power using an appropriate calculation formula. The ophthalmologist should have extensive knowledge of the potential impact of surgical technique modifications on the postoperative visual acuity, as performing additional intraoperative manipulations may be associated with unexpected postoperative ametropia and need to correct the refractive value of the implanted intraocular lens.

The purpose of this investigation was to examine the influence of sodium hyaluronate (HA) solution on contact lens dehydration and the distribution of water in lens materials. These parameters were measured with gravimetry and differential scanning calorimetry. Five commercial soft contact lenses were used. They represented four FDA (Federal Drug Administration) groups: Air Optix Night&Day Aqua and Acuvue Oasys (I FDA group), Proclear 1-Day (II FDA group), PureVision (III FDA group) and 1-Day Acuvue Moist (IV FDA group). All materials were investigated with two preservative-free HA solutions 0.1% and 0.3%. HA solutions influenced the water content and the dehydration rate of some examined lenses. For three lenses (Oasys, Proclear, Moist) water content of HA lenses was greater than control. Significant slowdown of dehydration rate under HA during the first 20min was observed only for Proclear. PhaseI of dehydration increased significantly with HA solutions in case of Moist and Proclear. For Night&Day and Oasys phaseI appeared under HA solution while it was not present for control lenses. Duration of the phaseI was strongly correlated with water content of the lenses (R2=0.844). The amount of freezable and non-freezable water depended strongly on characteristics of lens material and its interaction with HA molecules. Proclear seems to be the most prone to attach HA molecules which affect changes in dehydration characteristics and water behavior in the polymer. PureVision might be considered as the most resistant to HA in terms of dehydration dynamics and water distribution. All measured parameters seem to be dependent more on material properties than HA concentration.

This article presents a reflection on the education of business leaders. The analy-sis was based on the phenomenological tradition. The phenomenological ap-proach to teaching is a help in revealing the horizons of individuals – persons, not filling them up, e.g. empowering them. These teaching aids should include certain patterns – for the development of a person, not degradation. Unfortunate-ly, training of business leaders is still based on instrumental rationality: academ-ic teaching is more focused on the transfer of knowledge and less on developing the creativity of students. The phenomenological approach postulates that teach-ing should be more focused on fostering creativity. Two stages are important in the teaching process: cognitive and creative. The first step is to explore pre-existing knowledge, the second triggers the creative potential of the student. The ‘3i’ formula is a method which allows for the combination of both steps and the formation of a creative reality.

In modern ophthalmology the natural eye lens is sometimes replaced with an artificial implant – intraocular lens which remains in the eye for a long time. This can lead to the formation of numerous microdefects occurring on the intraocular lens surface or inside its volume. The most common include calcium deposits or microvacuoles referred to as glistenings. The presence of those defects causes deterioration of retinal image thus lowering the quality of vision. The purpose of this research is to develop a numerical model of human eye with intraocular lens burden with defects useful to predict the impact of calcium deposits and glistenings on the retinal image quality. The calculations made in accordance with this model suggest that the quality of retinal image deteriorates when the density of defects increases, but the degree of image deterioration does not depend on the location of the defects and transmittance of individual particles. The main deterioration effect is observed for low spatial frequencies (< 12 cycles/deg) both in case of calcium deposits and glistenings while for the spatial frequency of 30 cycles/deg the changes in modulation transfer function are insignificant. The presence of microvacuoles in the intraocular lens influences the worsening of modulation transfer function parameters only for the diameter of microvacuoles greater than 10 μm.

Kamery termowizyjne są od lat jednym z podstawowych narzędzi wykorzystywanych do badań zjawisk termicznych w wielu różnych dziedzinach nauki i techniki. Ze względu na wykorzystywane długości fal, najczęściej 3-5 Μm lub też 7-14 Μm, kamery termowizyjne nie mogą korzystać ze standardowych obiektywów ze szkła krzemowego. Konieczne jest stosowanie drogich elementów optycznych, wykonywanych np. z germanu lub też szafiru. Chcąc stosować kamerę termowizyjną do zróżnicowanych zadań, począwszy od obserwacji odległych przedmiotów, poprzez badania stanu izolacji termicznej budynków, badania maszyn i urządzeń, a kończąc na mikroskopowych badaniach elementów elektronicznych, konieczne staje się wyposażenie kamery termowizyjnej w cały zestaw obiektywów, począwszy od obiektywów teleskopowych, aż po obiektywy mikroskopowe. Celem badań opisanych w niniejszym artykule było sprawdzenie możliwości zastosowania w badaniach termowizyjnych pierścieni pośrednich.
Infrared cameras has been used for years as one of the main tools for temperature measurements. Because of wavelengths employed (3-5 Μm or 7-14 Μm), infrared cameras cannot use standard lenses made of silicon glass. It is necessary to rely on expensive optical materials such as germanium or sapphire. When using an infrared camera for different tasks, such as observation of distant objects, evaluation of buildings thermal insulation, thermal measurements of transformers, power lines, thermal investigations of electronic circuits, one has to use a wide range of lenses, from telescopic to microscopic. The goal of the research was to investigate the possibility of using extension tubes for thermography for imaging objects of sizes comparable to the detector matrix pixel pitch. The general problems of macrophotography are presented in the introduction. The second section describes the physical phenomena and effects to be taken into account when adding an extension tube to infrared camera lens which are the modification of the imaged object - lens - detector matrix geometry leading to the changes of the configuration factor; the influence of the radiation coming from the extension tube itself and finally, the problem of the imaged detail size becoming comparable to the wavelength used by the detector matrix. Next, in the third section, there are presented the results of measurements taken with a MWIR camera, using various combinations of 4 extension tubes. The fourth section contains the conclusions based on the presented measurement results. Extension tubes are an interesting alternative to microscopic lenses, especially in case of measurements for which only the signal phase is of interest. In general, extension tubes appear to be an interesting tool but it should be noted that the additional camera calibration may be needed when using them, depending on the tube length, the imaged object placement in relation to the lens axis and the measured object temperature in order to avoid temperature measurement errors.

Le but de cette contribution est de répondre à la question de savoir pourquoi dans les Jardins maures, cycle de nouvelles de l’écrivaine et peintre française de l’époque coloniale, Aline Réveillaud de Lens (1881-1925), l’imaginaire du jardin s’unit à celui de la crise. Avons-nous affaire tout simplement à la crise du jardin compris comme un espace paradisiaque ou s’agit-t-il d’autres crises encore que l’écrivaine évoque en se servant de cette union incongrue du jardin et de la crise ? Pour répondre à ces questions, nous avons divisé notre article en trois parties. La première présentera brièvement l’écrivaine et le cycle. La deuxième montrera que le jardin en crise peut cacher des crises propres à la société musulmane et la troisième décrira le jardin en crise comme la crise d’un certain rêve.
The aim of this contribution is to answer the question of why in Jardin maures [Moorish Gardens], a collection of short stories written by a French writer and painter of the colonial era, Aline Réveillaud de Lens (1881-1925), the imaginary of the garden intervenes with that of the crisis. Are we simply dealing with the crisis of the garden understood as an Edenic place or are we faced in those short stories with other crises that the writer evokes by using this incongruous union of the garden and the crisis? To answer these questions, we have divided our paper into three parts. The first will briefly introduce the writer and the collection. The second will show that the crisis of the garden may denounce some crises of Muslim society and the third part will describe the crisis of the garden as the crisis of a certain dream.

Weierstrass solid immersion lens (SIL) has been used to obtain superresolution because a smaller focal size is desirable. In this paper, focus shaping of Weierstrass SIL illuminated by an axisymmetric Bessel-modulated Gaussian beam (QBG beam) is investigated. It has been found theoretically that the sharper focusing of Weierstrass SIL disappears for a certain beam order of QBG beam. For case of a smaller beam order, the focus still locates on the plane of Weierstrass SIL and Weierstrass SIL still plays a tighter focusing role. However, when the beam order increases continuously, the focus lefts the plane of Weierstrass SIL, and shifts along an optical axis considerably. In addition, under condition of the higher beam order, the dependence of the focal shift on the beam order is nearly linear, which may be used to alter a focal position conveniently.

Soft contact lenses are used worldwide to correct ametropia. This medical device should be fitted and systematically evaluated on the patient eye by eye care professionals. The examination should include an evaluation of lens deposits. The widespread use of silicone hydrogel (Si-Hy) lenses and their tendency to build up lipid deposits indicate that eye care professionals should pay special attention to this kind of deposits. This paper aims to analyze the opinions of Polish ECPs regarding deposits on contact lenses, particularly regarding lipids and Si-Hy lenses. Data were collected from 103 Polish eye care professionals through an online survey. Respondents reported that lipid deposits are most often present on Si-Hy lenses, and protein deposits occur most often on hydrogel lenses. Almost all of them declare that they evaluate deposits on contact lenses on follow-up visits, which concludes that this is an essential part of the lens selection process for them. Respondents believe that different lenses and lens care solutions vary in the context of their interaction with lipid deposits. These parameters should be considered at the time of product selection. Eye care professionals expect descriptions of lenses’ resistance to lipid deposits, and care solution effectiveness in reducing lipid deposits.
Miękkie soczewki kontaktowe służące do korekcji ametropii są powszechnie używane na całym świecie. Jako wyrób medyczny powinny być dopasowywane i systematycznie oceniane na oku pacjenta przez specjalistów ochrony wzroku. Badanie kontrolne powinno obejmować ocenę osadów na soczewkach. Powszechne stosowanie soczewek silikonowo-hydrożelowych (Si-Hy) i ich tendencja do odkładania się złogów lipidowych wskazują, że specjaliści ochrony wzroku powinni zwracać szczególną uwagę na ten rodzaj osadów. Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza opinii polskich specjalistów ochrony wzroku w zakresie osadów na soczewkach kontaktowych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem lipidów i soczewek Si-Hy. Dane zebrano od 103 polskich specjalistów ochrony wzroku poprzez ankietę internetową. Respondenci wskazali, że osady lipidowe najczęściej występują na soczewkach Si-Hy, a osady białkowe na soczewkach hydrożelowych. Niemal wszyscy ankietowani deklarują, że oceniają osady na soczewkach kontaktowych podczas wizyt kontrolnych, co pozwala wnioskować, iż jest to dla nich istotna część procesu doboru soczewek. Respondenci uważają, że poszczególne soczewki i płyny do ich pielęgnacji różnią się w kontekście ich interakcji z osadami lipidowymi. Parametry te powinny być brane pod uwagę w momencie wyboru produktu dla pacjenta. Specjaliści ochrony wzroku oczekują opisów odporności soczewek na powstawanie osadów lipidowych oraz skuteczności płynów pielęgnacyjnych w redukcji osadów lipidowych.

W opracowaniu zwrócono uwagę na inkoherencję pierwotnych wiązek promieni X, powstających w aktualnie dostępnych lampach RTG, wpływających na powstawanie zniekształceń geometrycznych i gradientowych radiogramów. W celu uzyskania wiązki diagnostycznej, złożonej wyłącznie z promieni osiowych i przyosiowych stosuje się kolimatory z materiałów metalicznych, eliminujących w procesie formowania powyżej 90% energii promieniowania lampy. Zupełnie nowym podejściem było zastosowanie systemów filtrująco-refrakcyjnych, charakteryzujących się znacznie mniejszą stratnością, niestety nie dysponujących możliwością przestrajania profilu parametrycznego. W praktyce daje to możliwość przekierowania promieni pozaosiowych, do użytecznego obszaru przyosiowego. Celem programu było zaprojektowanie i budowa systemu refrakcyjno-filtrującego, zaopatrzonego w przetwornik zdolny do sterowanych zmian swej struktury, a w konsekwencji geometrii promieni pozaosiowych. Celem technicznym pracy była budowa urządzenia prototypowego, z cyfrowo-analogowym systemem sterowania oraz jego testy laboratoryjne mające odpowiedzieć na pytania, czy ruch wirowy ferrofluidu w polu magnetycznym wpływa na geometrię i rozkład energii w kącie bryłowym wiązki promieniowania X oraz jaki występuje tu rodzaj korelacji z prędkością obrotową? Na podstawie analizy wyników badań stwierdzono wpływ prędkości obrotowej oraz objętości ferrofluidu na zdolność do refrakcji promieni X, o charakterze nieliniowym oraz zaobserwowano możliwość sterowania cechami geometrycznymi podłoża, powodując doosiowe przesunięcie widma rozkładu energetycznego w kącie bryłowym wiązki. W praktyce daje to możliwość wygodnej modyfikacji morfologicznych cech zdjęcia już na etapie ekspozycyjnym, powodując np. wyostrzenie anatomicznych szczegółów tkanek miękkich, z wygaszeniem obrazu tkanki kostnej lub odwrotnie.
The incoherence of primary X ray beams formed by currently avail-able devices, leading to geometric and gradient distortions of radiographs, has been pointed out in the study. In order to obtain a diagnostic beam made up exclusively of axial and paraxial rays, collimators with metallic materials are used, which eliminate over 90% of the radiant energy produced by the X-ray tube. A completely new approach is the use of refractory-filtering systems, which are characterised by much smaller loss, but feature a fixed parametric profile. In practice this enables the redirection of off-axis rays towards the focal plane. The intention of the study was to design and construct a refractory-filtering system capable of controlled alteration of off-axis ray geometry. The purpose of the laboratory work was the construction of a prototype device, with a digital and analogue control system, and test it to see whether the ferrofluid vortex motion induced by the magnetic field affected the geometry and distribution of energy within a solid angle of an x-ray beam as well as to determine the type of correlation with the rotational speed. On the basis of the analysis of the study results, it was found that the rotational speed and volume of the ferrofluid impacted the non-linear X-ray refraction capability. It was also observed that the geometric features of the substrate could be controlled, leading to a shift of the rays towards the axis. In practice, this makes it possible to conveniently modify the morphological characteristics of an image already at the exposure stage, thus sharpening the anatomical details of the soft tissues, while suppress-ing the image of the bone tissue, or vice versa.

In this work, FEI SciosTM field emission gun scanning electron microscope (FEG SEM) equipped with a unique combination of analytical and imaging detectors was utilized to examine structure and chemistry of selected Si/ refractory couples. The couples were obtained in wettability tests performed by the sessile drop method coupled with contact heating of a refractory substrate (h-BN, SiC) at ultra-high temperature (up to 1750°C). The SEM observations were carried out on top-views of the couples, in order to evaluate surface and interfacial phenomena in Si/h-BN and Si/SiC systems. A full range of available detectors (e.g. classical Everhart-Thornley detector (ETD) or advanced in-lens detectors) working under various operation modes (secondary electrons (SE), backscattered electrons (BSE), a mixed mode), were used upon analyses in order to reveal specific features of obtained structures.

W przypadku konieczności obrazowania termowizyjnego obiektów o małych rozmiarach, z rozdzielczością sięgająca kilku lub kilkunastu mikrometrów na piksel, w kamerach termowizyjnych wykorzystywane są specjalne obiektywy mikroskopowe. W przypadku braku takiego obiektywu, alternatywą jest użycie pierścieni pośrednich, montowanych pomiędzy posiadanym obiektywem oraz obudową kamery. Zastosowanie pierścieni jest tanim i łatwo dostępnym rozwiązaniem, jeśli tylko mechaniczna budowa kamery na to pozwala. Ceną, jaką się za to płaci są jednak zniekształcenia uzyskiwanego obrazu, błędy pomiaru temperatury oraz wpływ promieniowania termicznego samych pierścieni na otrzymywane wyniki. Celem badań opisanych w niniejszym artykule było sprawdzenie, jak pierścienie pośrednie i ich nagrzewanie przez kamerę wpływają na otrzymywane wyniki pomiarów oraz na stabilizację temperatury samej kamery.
Infrared cameras has been used for years as one of the main tool for temperature measurements. When there is a need to image objects of sizes comparable to the detector matrix pixel pitch, microscope lenses are normally used. When such camera lens is for some reason not available, an interesting alternative is to use extension tubes mounted between the lens and the camera housing. However, that solution comes at the cost of: image distortions, temperature measurement errors and impact of the thermal radiation of the extension tube itself on the measurements or imaging. The goal of the research described in this paper was to investigate how screwing an extension tube to the camera housing and its heating will affect the measurement results and the temperature of the camera itself. The resume of the previous research concerning the application of extension tubes to thermography is presented in the introduction. The second section describes the physical phenomena and effects to be taken into account when adding an extension tube to an infrared camera lens, which are the modification of the imaged object - lens - detector matrix geometry leading to the changes of the configuration factor, the influence of the radiation coming from the extension tube itself and finally, the problem of the extension tube heating-up, when mounted on an IR camera. Next, in the third section there are presented the results of measurements made with an MWIR camera equipped with an extension tube and comparison of the results obtained using factory and custom non-uniformity correction. Because the impact of the thermal radiation coming from the tube itself is the greatest, when imaging objects at the room temperature or below RT, some examples of imaging of a linen composite structure (at RT, cooled or heated) are also given. The fourth section covers the conclusions based on the presented measurements results and requirements for further work. Extension tubes are an interesting alternative to microscopic lenses, especially for measurements, when only the phase of the signal is of interest. In general, extension tubes appear as an interesting tool, but care must be taken when using them, depending on the tube length, imaged object placement relatively to the lens axis, time duration of the measurement and measured object temperature. To get the best results, a custom NUC and calibration of the camera is required, along with, if possible, cooling and temperature stabilization of the tube.

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to determine whether convergence varies with age and pseudophakia. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 86 patients, aged 21–85 (average age: 62.7) years were included in the study group: 39 patients with binocular pseudophakia and 41 with their own lens, as well as 68 people with their own lens, at the age of 19–25 (average 22.1) years. Examinations were carried out at distances of 50 and 10 cm, and for distant vision. Interpupillary distance measurements were used to calculate the difference of convergence capabilities. The exami-nation results of phakic and pseudophakic eyes were compared. RESULTS: The mean convergence of the pseudophakic patients was 3.52 mm (± 0.42 mm), in the patients with their own lens: 3.46 (± 0.74 mm). No statistically significant differences between the groups were found. No statistically significant difference was found in the mean convergence between the two groups of patients aged 19–25 (group 1) and over 65 years (group 2), either. The average value of convergence in group 1 was 3.47 mm (3.84–2.93 mm). Ho-wever, in the second group the values were 3.46 mm (3.96–2.48 mm). There was no evidence of statistical differences in the average value of convergence in both groups for distances of 50 cm and 10 cm. CONCLUSIONS: Convergence does not depend on age. Presbyopia does not lead to a loss of convergence in phakic or pseudophakic eyes.
WSTĘP: Celem badania było stwierdzenie, czy konwergencja zależy od wieku i pseudofakii. MATERIAŁ I METODY: Do grupy badanej włączono 86 pacjentów w wieku 21–85 lat (średnia: 62,7): 39 pacjentów z obuoczną pseudofakią, 41 z własną soczewką oraz 68 osób z własną soczewką w wieku 19–25 lat (średnia 22,1). Badanie zostało wykonane w odległości 50 i 10 cm oraz dla spojrzenia w dal. Wykorzystując uzyskane pomiary rozstawu źrenic, obliczono różnicę zdolności konwergencji oraz porównano obie grupy badanych. WYNIKI: Średnia wartość konwergencji u pacjentów z pseudofakią wyniosła 3,52 mm (± 0,42 mm), a w grupie pacjentów z własną soczewką 3,46 mm (± 0,74 mm). Na podstawie przeprowadzanych analiz nie stwierdzono istotnych statystycznie różnic pod względem średniej konwergencji pomiędzy grupami pacjentów w wieku od 19 do 25 lat (grupa 1.) i powyżej 65 lat (grupa 2). Średnia wartość konwergencji w grupie 1. wynosiła 3,47 mm (maksymalna 3,84 mm, minimalna 2,93 mm). Natomiast w grupie 2 – 3,46 mm (maksymalna 3,96 mm, minimalna 2,48 mm). Średnia wartość konwergencji przy patrzeniu na przedmiot znajdujący się w odległości 50 cm i 10 cm różniła się istotnie statystycznie pomiędzy badanymi grupami. WNIOSKI: Dane z uzyskanych analiz statycznych pozwalają stwierdzić, że konwergencja nie zależy od wieku oraz starczowzroczność, nie prowadzi do utraty zdolności konwergencji w oczach fakijnych i pseudofakijnych.

Density and diversity of Fusarium species and other fungi associated with rhizosphere and rhizoplane of lentil and sesame plants at three different growth stages were investigated. Sixteen species of Fusarium were isolated from rhizosphere (13 species) and rhizoplane (11) of both plants studied. In lentil, 11 species were recorded from its rhizosphere (9 species) and rhizoplane (8). Fusarium species associated with lentil rhizoplane gave highest number of propagules at the first stage of plant growth while the ones of Fusarium associated with the rhizosphere produced the highest number at the second stage of growth. F. solani was the most common in the three growth stages. In addition, of two growth stages, F. culmorum and F. tricinctum were isolated from the rhizosphere while F. nygamai and F. verticillioides from the rhizoplane. The other species were recorded from only one growth stage of lentil plant. In sesame plants, rhizosphere yielded nine Fusarium species while rhizoplane gave only six from the three stages investigated. Stage I of sesame rhizosphere possessed the highest colony forming units of Fusarium. As the case for lentil, F. solani was the most common species in sesame rhizospere and rhizoplane. F. verticillioides and F. nygamai (in three different growth stages) followed by F. oxysporum and F. tricinctum (in two growth stages) were recorded using the dilution-plate and/or soil-plate methods from sesame rhizosphere soils. Rhizoplane Fusarium species of sesame plants were isolated at the three different growth stages with almost equal number of colony forming units. F. poae came after F. solani in its frequency since it was recovered from two growth stages. Several of the isolated species are well-known as pathogens to many cultivated plants. To the best of our knowledge, three species are recorded here for the first time in Egypt from the rhizosphere (F. acutatum), rhizoplane of sesame plants (F. longipes) and from rhizosphere of both lentil and sesame and rhizoplane of lentil (F. nygamai).

Opis:
Tight focusing of radially polarized beams with a devil’s vortex lens is numerically investigated. Multiple focal spots can be generated in the geometric focus when a radially polarized beam is focused by a high numerical aperture objective in the presence of a devil’s vortex lens. The position of the major focal spot shifts from the geometric focus when a devil’s vortex lens with S = 1 is employed, and the position of the focal spot can be controlled by the numerical aperture of the objective. The intensity components of the major focal spot are influenced by the vortex phase of the devil’s vortex lens. A strong longitudinal component near the optical axis is produced by a devil’s vortex lens without vortex phase, and a nearly pure transversal field is produced by a devil’s vortex lens with vortex phase.

The article presents an analysis with the method of phenomenological praxeology of two concepts of entrepreneurship: the nineteenth-century concept of Leon Harmel and that of J.-Robert Ouimet. The ontological-ontic coherence functions as the main practical directive of phenomenological praxeology, according to which it is necessary to preserve the ontological-ontic coherence of management in order to ensure the high efficiency of an enterprise and high level of ethics in its command structures. The analysis leads to the conclusion that Harmel’s and Ouimet’s concepts, based on promoting dignity and servant leadership, ensure the ontological--ontic coherence of management and can be seen as a model (as a paradigm) of ethical entrepreneurship.

Opis:
Ophthalmic drug delivery is an important area of research that aims to improve the efficacy and convenience of treatment for various eye conditions. There are multiple ways in which drugs can be delivered to the eye, including eye drops, ointments, gels, and inserts. The most prevalent way of administering medication to the eye is through eye drops. They are easy to use and can be self-administered by patients. Nonetheless, eye drops have the disadvantage of being prone to removal by tears, which may result in insufficient drug absorption and reduced effectiveness. Irregular use of active substances can exacerbate the disease, resulting in prolonged treatment with questionable efficacy. Soft contact lenses that serve as ophthalmic drug delivery systems (DDS) can become a viable substitute for traditional treatments. These polymeric lenses can be embedded with various active compounds, some of which are not readily soluble in water or physiological fluids. One such drug is Cyclosporine A (CyA), an immunosuppressant with a high molecular weight and hydrophobic properties, chronically used to treat dry eye syndrome (DES). The article discusses the development of a method for modifying Hilafilcon B contact lenses obtained from drugstores with Cyclosporine A (CyA). The drug was administered to the lenses using an immersion technique, and the process parameters were monitored to control drug release efficiency and profile. The drug release was measured in an Artificial Lacrimal Fluid (ALF) buffer, mimicking tear fluid with a pH of 7.9. The stability of CyA in this buffer was assessed. For the parameters used, the best drug application and release profile was achieved by immersing the contact lenses for 24 hours at 25°C in a CyA solution containing 20 μg/ml of the active substance and adding 5 mg/ml of Vitamin E.

The relationship between spherical and astigmatic refractive errors and their associated visual acuity is investigated in this work by means of two different approaches. In the first one, different refractive errors were induced in normal subjects by trial lenses. In the second one, defocused images were simulated numerically by the optical transfer function of a model eye and then judged by the same subjects. The amount of defocus (measured in terms of the modulus of the dioptric power vector) necessary to reduce the visual acuity to 0.1 logMAR and to 0.4 logMAR was computed with each method and then compared. We found that the visual system is clearly more tolerant to lens-induced defocus than for the computer simulated one. However, no significant differences in visual acuity were found for astigmatism of the same power but different axes in each method.

The use of terahertz-based techniques has grown very fast since they are capable of performing evaluations at molecular level, being very suitable for the analysis of biological samples and biomaterials such as those for contact lenses. These biomaterials are continuously evolving to enhance the lens wearer’s comfort by improving their hydration state and surface wettability. Therefore, this study examines a novel terahertz system for the assessment of the temporary in vitro dehydration of hydrogel contact lenses, which provides a new index to assess their state of hydration. Several conventional and silicone hydrogel contact lenses and lens care solutions were analysed. Traditional methods such as the gravimetric determination of water content and the measurement of the static contact angle were also carried out for the validation of the developed system. The dehydration rate measurements of contact lenses obtained with the proposed system correlated with the values provided by traditional methods. As a whole, conventional hydrogel contact lenses exhibited the lowest values for dehydration rate. The tests conducted on various solutions showed a correlation between the wetting action of the solution and the dehydration rate of the contact lens material.

Opis:
The nervous system's ability to receive light stimuli and its' processing in the brain in order to produce a visual impression is the definition of the sense of sight. The anatomical form of the sense organ of vision is comprised of the eyeball, the eye's protective apparatus, the eye's movement apparatus and the retinal nerve connections made to structures in the brain. The shape of the eye's lens, which gives the eye its refraction ability, depends on the voltage present in Zinn's ligaments that regulate the ciliary muscle. Sharpness of vision is produced by changing the shape of the lens, a reflexive adjustment. A domed lens causes stronger light inflexion and allows a sharp visual appearance of close objects. A flattening of the lens results in less light refraction and the seeing of more distant objects. The lens consists of a capsule, a cortex and a nucleus and it has two convex surfaces: the front and the rear. If we imagine the lens as a plum fruit, the capsule is its skin, the cortex is its flesh and the nucleus is its stone. Proper functioning of the lens is essential for accurate vision. Exact assessments of the eye's lens and the ability to monitor the status of associated diseases are extremely important. The lens may be tested using a slit lamp, but in any situation where an eye disease prevents this assessment of the lens this examination will obviously be inadequate. Thanks to today's imaging techniques, we can now assess the anatomical arrangement and condition of the lens, even in the eyes of those patients for whom the use of an imaging lens slit lamp is not possible [1, 2].
