Opis:
In this paper, first we consider parametric control systems driven by nonlinear evolution equations defined on an evolution triple of spaces. The parametres are time-varying probability measures (Young measures) defined on a compact metric space. The appropriate optimization problem is a minimax control problem, in which the system analyst minimizes the maximum cost (risk). Under general hypotheses on the data we establish the existence of optimal controls.
Then we pass to nonparametric systems, which are governed by nonlinear evolution equations with nonmonotone operators. We prove two existence results for such evolution inclusions, which are of independent interest and extend significantly the results existing in the literature. Then we solve time-optimal and Meyer-type optimization problems. In Section 5, we derive necessary conditions for saddle point optimality in the minimax control problem. We conclude the paper with three examples of distributed parameter control systems.

The state geodesic and cartographic resources include the following spatial databases: General Geographic Database, VMap L2, VMap L3 and Topographic Database. Only one of those databases - the VMap Level 2 base may at present serve as a reference database, since it covers the whole territory of Poland and its scope and level of detail is equivalent to the classical topographic map. Yet, the practical use of the VMap digital data is limited on account of the complex structure (224 feature classes grouped in eight categories) and the lack of automatic cartographic visualisation. This paper presents a proposal of VMap L2 database structure simplification for analyses and visualization purposes. There are three main methods of data integration described. The database modification experiments carried out with the use of GIS software allowed to choose one of them: according to the similarity of object characteristics with geometric type preservation. Although the usable structure of VMap L2 database is not free of drawbacks, it does meet the requirements laid down in the introduction.

Opis:
The primary goal of the elaboration of universal visualisation methods of VMap data was to obtain a readable and understandable cartographic composition, which might be reproduced by the user on any fragment of the Vmap L2 database in the usable structure independently of the software used. Assuming that geodesic and cartographic companies will be the main recipients of the product, the authors chose the three most popular programmes of leading producers on the geoinformation market: ArcGIS by ESRI, GeoMedia by Intergraph and MapInfo Professional. Several preliminary assumptions were made, aiming at the universality and functionality of proposed solutions. The final cartographic presentation should fulfil the condition of readability, unequivocality and measurability both on the screen and in quick prints from the system. The drawn up methods of visualisation will enable the promotion and more extensive use of VMap L2 data in the GIS environment.

Opis:
This paper is concerned with the construction of reduced-order models for high-order linear systems in such a way that the L2 norm of the impulse-response error is minimized. Two convergent algorithms that draw on previous procedures presented by the same authors, are suggested: one refers to s-domain representations, the other to time-domain state-space representations. The algorithms are based on an iterative scheme that, at any step, satisfies certain interpolation constraints deriving from the optimality conditions. To make the algorithms suitable to the reduction of very large-scale systems, resort is made to Krylov subspaces and Arnoldi's method. The performance of the reduction algorithms is tested on two benchmark examples.

Opis:
This article describes an algorithm for procedural generation of underground systems with terrain features, by processing set of schematic maps. L-system and cellular automata are used to generate final system shapes. Most of existing algorithms are not suitable for application in computer games, since they usually lack any considerable level of control, require large amount of computation or produce overly complex meshes. We present our solution, that can produce editable 3D objects from very simple input, with high level of control over final system layout. We also allow evaluation at every key step of generation process. Presented approach incorporates placement of various terrain features with stalactites, stalagmites and columns as an example of such elements. Obtained results can be used in computer games or similar applications.

In this article we focus on the balanced truncation linear quadratic regulator (LQR) with constrained states and inputs. For closed-loop, we want to use the LQR to find an optimal control that minimizes the objective function which called "the quadratic cost function” with respect to the constraints on the states and the control input. In order to do that we have used formal asymptotes for the Pontryagin maximum principle (PMP) and we introduce an approach using the so called The Hamiltonian Function and the underlying algebraic Riccati equation. The theoretical results are validated numerically to show that the model order reduction based on open-loop balancing can also give good closed-loop performance.

Opis:
One of the main assumptions of Complex Dynamic Systems Theory (CDST) is that internally complex language subsystems develop non-linearly while entering different kinds of supportive, competitive, conditional, or dual relationships which are characterised by trade-offs caused by learners’ restricted cognitive processing, especially in foreign language speech. The present paper belongs to a short series of articles which examines various aspects of the development of L2 English speech at secondary school on basis of the same longitudinal, exploratory, and corpus-based case study. The aim of this paper is to investigate the dynamics of the relationships between fluency and both syntactic and lexical complexity in the speech of a good, average, and poor language learner at the level of secondary school. Syntactic complexity was investigated in terms of general sentence complexity, subordination, coordination, and nominalisation, whereas lexical complexity was construed in terms of lexical density, sophistication, and variation. In general, the results indicated predominantly supportive relationships between fluency and different measures of syntactic complexity but competitive or dual relationships between fluency and lexical complexity. However, the relationships between the selected variables fluctuated over time and often differed in the case of a good, average, and poor language learner.

Drawing on theoretical insights from a complex dynamic systems framework, this work explores the ways that learner selves, as they relate to learning and using languages, manifest across different contexts and timescales and emerge in interaction with various factors. First, a broad overview of dynamically-oriented L2 motivation research is provided before critically considering the need for research that aligns with conceptual advances made under the dynamic turn in SLA. In particular, this critical overview highlights a crucial need for more research employing dynamic methods capable of revealing how learner perceptions of self emerge in relation to their interlocutors and in interaction with external factors, including language ideologies that may uniquely characterize sociocultural contexts where target languages other than English are learned. The chapter concludes by discussing ways to implement dynamically oriented methodology that can provide much needed insights into the inherent dynamic, emergent, and contextually and socially embedded nature of learner selves.

Opis:
The present study proposes a new explicit nonlinear scheme that solves stiff and nonlinear initial value problems in ordinary differential equations. One of the promising features of this scheme is its fourth-order convergence with strong stability having an unbounded region. A modern approach for relative stability growth analysis is also presented under order stars conditions. The scheme is also good in dealing with singular and stiff type of models. Comparing numerical experiments using various errors, including maximum absolute global error over the integration interval, absolute error at the endpoint, average error, norm of errors, and the CPU times (seconds), shows better performance. An adaptive step-size approach seems to increase the performance of the proposed scheme. The numerical simulations assure us of L -stability, consistency, order, and rapid convergence.

Opis:
Complex Dynamic Systems Theory (CDST), which originated in the natural sciences, has recently been applied to second language acquisition, underlining the interdisciplinary character of this humanistic discipline. According to this theory, language is a complex dynamic system consisting of subsystems which develop in a non-linear way, forming different kinds of supportive, competitive, or conditional relationships. What is more, these subsystems compete for the learner’s limited resources, which causes trade-offs within and between language subsystems, such as complexity, accuracy, and fluency, especially in speech. The present paper constitutes a part of a short series of articles which present different aspects of the same longitudinal case study on the development of L2 English speech at secondary school. The aim of this paper is to examine the relationships between language accuracy and a number of specific measures of syntactic complexity, i.e. general sentence complexity, subordination, coordination, and nominalisation; as well as lexical complexity, i.e. lexical density, sophistication, and variation, in the case of a good, average, and poor language learner at secondary school. In general, the results showed that the relationships between the selected variables fluctuated over time and often differed in the case of a good, average, and poor language learner.

Opis:
In line with Complex Dynamic Systems Theory (CDST), the aim of the paper is to examine dynamics and causality among the growth rates of lexical sophistication in L2 writing development. The study was based on The Written English Developmental Corpus of Polish Learners (WEDCPL) which consists of over 1,900 essays composed during 21 repeated measurements by 100 learners over three years (2014–2017) at secondary school. Lexical sophistication, operationalised as different frequency levels, was analysed with the Lextutor software (Cobb 2014). The results indicated that the learners relied on the first frequency level. The monthly growth rates (MGRs) of the frequency levels were variable but no significant peaks were registered. The relationships between the average semester growth rates (ASGRs) revealed competition between the first and higher frequency levels, and some support between the higher levels. Thus, developing learners’ lexis beyond the first level counteracts the production of lexically unsophisticated texts and supports the use of more advanced words.
