    Opis:
    Based on the Nordic sculptor community in Rome around 1860, the article discusses candidates that served as inspiration for the fictional Olaf Malm from Telemark, the protagonist in the chapter “Malms historie” in Vilhelm Bergsøe’s key novel Fra Piazza del Popolo (1866). Some of the clues in the text are Malm’s sculptural works. A study of different sources and earlier research together with the candidates’ personality, biography, and travel patterns point in a new direction and strengthen the probability of the Norwegian sculptor Hans Johnsen Budal as being the main model, whereas some traits hint at the Danish sculptor Herman W. Bissen. The candidacy of the sculptor Olaf Glosimodt, which is established in Norway, however, is no longer credible.

    Opis:
    The literary works of Jan Křesadlo, which were “discovered” just after 1989, from the very beginning have caused controversy among the reviewers and readers, and the writer himself was treated as a typical outsider who deliberately decided to function on the periphery of the contemporary Czech culture. His answer to this uncomfortable situation included ceaseless polemics and disputes with the other writers. Most often he used the postmodern narrative strategies based on the intertextual and autotelic means of literary representation. In this way, he aimed at the parodistic ridiculing of his adversaries (first and foremost it was Milan Kundera). Extensive fragments of his works can be read as belonging to the category of “novels with a key”. On the other hand, it is difficult to avoid the impression that his intertextual reliance on the esteemed (in common opinion) authors is caused by the “anxiety of influence” (the term of Harold Bloom) and by a need to overcome these “strong” role models.
    „Odkryta” dla szerszego grona czytelników dopiero po 1989 roku twórczość literacka Jana Křesadly od początku budziła kontrowersje wśród czytelników i recenzentów, sam pisarz zaś traktowany był jako typowy outsider, ktoś, kto świadomie skazuje się na wegetację na peryferiach czeskiej kultury współczesnej. Na sytuację tę Křesadlo reagował, nieustannie wdając się w spory i polemiki z innymi prozaikami, używając do tego postmodernistycznych strategii narracyjnych bazujących na eksponowaniu intertekstualnego i autotelicznego charakteru literackiej reprezentacji oraz dążąc do parodystycznego ośmieszenia pisarskiej maniery swych adwersarzy (przede wszystkim Milana Kundery). Obszerne fragmenty jego dzieł odczytywać też można w kategoriach „powieści z kluczem”. Nie sposób jednak oprzeć się wrażeniu, że eksponowana w jego pisarstwie zależność od bardziej cenionych (w opinii powszechnej) autorów wypływa z opisywanego przez Harolda Blooma „lęku przed wpływem” i ze zrodzonej stąd potrzeby uwolnienia się od zbyt silnie narzucających się wzorców.

    The article discusses Italian themes in the novels of the 19th century Polish women writers Anna Nakvaska (“Powstaniec litewski”) and Teresa Jadwiga Papi (“Po ciernistej drodze”). The author of the article highlights the key concepts of Italian culture that are found in the analyzed literary works, focuses on the specific nature of an ethnic stereotype – the Poles’ idea of the Italian nation, which is reflected in the figurative system of characters (T. J. Papi’s novel “Po ciernistej drodze”) and plots (A. Nakwaska’s novel “Powstaniec litewski”).

    Opis:
    Spanish thinking has till the beginning of the 20th Century been marginalised within the history of European philosophy due to its literary form and lack of systematic doctrines, but especially due to the idea of reason. Speculative reason never had the same influence on Spanish thinking as it did on thinking in the rest of Europe, and with Miguel de Unamuno the idea of reason and its philosophical use becomes explicitly problematized. The present study analyses and discusses the definition and the function of reason in the philosophy of Unamuno. It analyses the relationship between reason and language and between reason and belief. Also the consequences of Unamuno’s scepticism towards the primacy of reason are discussed in relation to his vision of man and to his philosophical method.
    El pensamiento español ha sido marginalizado dentro de la historia de la filosofía europea hasta principios del siglo XX, en gran parte debido a su carácter literario y su falta de doctrinas sistemáticas, pero en especial debido al concepto de la razón. La razón lógico-especulativa nunca tuvo la misma influencia en España que en el resto de Europa, y con Miguel de Unamuno el concepto de la razón y su función filosófica se problematiza explícitamente. El presente estudio analiza y discute la definición y la función de la razón en la filosofía unamuniana. Analiza la relación entre la razón y el lenguaje y entre la razón y la fe. Además, se discuten las consecuencias de su escepticismo hacia la primacía de la razón para su visión del hombre y para su método filosófico.

    Współczesna proza polska na nowo powraca do zagadnień artystowskich, próbując mitologizować obraz artysty świata teatru. W niniejszym artykule interesować mnie będzie grupa tekstów, które ujawniają szczególnego rodzaju zainteresowanie wybitnymi osobowościami polskiego teatru – Kazimierzem Dejmkiem i Jerzym Grotowskim. Wybrane utwory pierwowzór bohaterów powieściowych, a także schemat fabularny, zapożyczają z pogranicza biografii oraz wydarzeń teatralnych, a następnie transponują je w świat powieściowej fikcji. Zastosowana strategia kluczowa występuje w dwóch podstawowych wariantach – powieści pamfletu oraz powieści paraboli. Proces mitologizowania artysty teatru podporządkowany zostaje tworzeniu biografii fantazmatycznych, opartych na szczególnego rodzaju pakcie referencjalnym między nadawcą i odbiorcą tekstu.
    The contemporary Polish prose has once more become inspired by the novel concerning an artist, and attempts to mythologise the artist’s image of the world of the theater. In this article, I shall cover a range of texts which show a peculiar interest in the great figures of the Polish theatre – Kazimierz Dejmek and Jerzy Grotowski. The chosen works adopt the archetypes of both the characters, as well as of the plot, from the overlapping areas of the two artists’ personal and professional scenic lives, conveying the artists’ real-world experiences into fiction. The key strategy used in the mentioned works occurs in two basic varieties – the pamphlet novel and the parabolic novel. The mythologisation of the artist is dependent on the creation of phantasmatic biographies, based on a unique type of an unspoken agreement between the author and the reader.
