Opis:
Ionic liquids are widely used in supported ionic liquid membranes technology, especially in gas separation and purification processes. This work characterizes the ability of ionic liquids to wet commercially available porous supports used for such purposes. Characterization of supports and membrane phases was carried out in order to determine factors influencing wetting process. Experimental method based on capillary rise is widely used for porous media characterization (i.e. pore radius, contact angle). Measurements of penetration distance or liquid mass are two main experimental methods, in which the Washburn equation is a basic instrument to analyze the obtained results. However, polymeric porous supports do not meet Washburn assumptions and the method is loaded with human errors, so the sessile drop method was used. The rate of wetting influences swelling effects and therefore changes in permeation path during gas separation processes are observed. Influence of ionic liquids structure on wetting and swelling of porous supports was investigated. The families of 1-alkyl-3-methylimidazolium (Cnmim), ammonium (Nnnnn), 1-alkyl-1-methylpyrrolidinium (CnPyrr) and 1-alkylpyridinium (CnPy) compounds with variable alkyl chain lengths in cation structures and changeable anions were taken into account in wetting and swelling experiments.

Opis:
The direct nitrolysis of DPT to synthesize HMX with ionic liquids (ILs) as catalysts was investigated. The results showed that [Et3NH] HSO4 was the best catalyst among 18 ILs used and the yield of HMX was up to 61% against 45% without IL. The ILs could be effciently recovered by simple distillation and extraction after reaction without any apparent loss of catalytic activity even after 10 times recycling.

An aryl-substituted aromatic acid ionic liquid (M-X) was synthesized through hexadecyl trimethyl ammonium bromide and sodium salicylate, and it was employed as a flotation collector for the separation of quartz from magnetite. Laboratory flotation studies of magnetite and quartz were conducted using the M-X and dodecylamine (DDA) as collector. The results showed that the M-X has a stronger collecting ability and selectivity for quartz without starch. The adsorption mechanism of M-X on quartz and magnetite surfaces was studied by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), zeta potential and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis. Results indicated that the adsorption of M-X on the quartz surface was more efficient than that on the magnetite surface. And the salicylate anion in M-X was found to have depression effect to magnetite.

The paper presents the results of research on the preparation and use of cellulose granules as carriers of nutrients in the cultivation of plants. The granules were prepared from a cellulose solution in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazole acetate followed by coagulation in water and primary alcohols: methanol, ethanol, 1-propanol, 1-butanol, 1-pentanol, 1-hexanol and 1-octanol. Modifications of granules were also carried out by hydrophobization at elevated temperature and by encapsulation in a polylactide solution. As a result of the research, cellulose granules were obtained, which were characterized by different porosity, depending on the type of coagulant used. The morphology of granules surface and cross-sections was examined by means of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The cellulose granules exhibited good sorption/desorption properties which were investigated by conductometry and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The longest desorption time of NH4NO3 was characteristic of granules obtained as a result of thermal hydrophobization of the surface, which were used in the cultivation of the spider plant. As a result of the research, cellulose granules were obtained which may find potential application in crop production, as long-acting, non-dusting and fully biodegradable fertilizers.

The paper presents results of research on the preparation of cellulose membranes with graphite oxide addition (GO/CEL). Initially, a cellulose (CEL) solution in 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazole acetate (EMIMAc) was obtained, to which graphene oxide (GO) dispersed in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) was added. From this solution, composite membranes were formed using phase inversion method. It was observed that the GO addition influences the physico-chemical properties of GO/CEL composite membranes, resulting in an increase in their mass per unit area, thickness and density, and a decrease in sorption properties. In addition, the study of transport properties has shown that GO/CEL membranes do not absorb BSA particles on their surface, which prevents the unfavorable phenomenon of fouling. An important feature of the obtained membranes is the specific permeate flux which reaches high values (~124 L/m2 ×h) at 3.8% of the GO addition to the cellulose matrix.

W pracy badano przydatność wybranych cieczy jonowych do konserwacji strzyków. Użyto pięć wybranych cieczy jonowych i dla porównania wodny roztwór formaliny (5%). Po 5. i 10. dobach konserwacji przeprowadzano pomiary elastyczności i twardości próbek. Wyniki są niejednoznaczne. Należy kontynuować badania nad zastosowaniem innych cieczy jonowych do konserwacji strzyków, które można by zastosować w laboratoryjnym wymieniu bionicznym.
The work involved examination of selected ionic liquids for maintenance of teats. The researchers used five selected ionic liquids, and for comparison - purposes - water solution of formalin (5%). The elasticity and hardness of samples was measured after 5 and 10 days of maintenance. The results are ambiguous. It is necessary to continue studies on employing other ionic liquids for the maintenance of teats, which could be used in a laboratory bionic udder.

In this research work, thermal decomposition and kinetic analysis of pure and contaminated imidazolium based ionic liquid (IL) has been investigated. As thermal decomposition and kinetics evaluation plays a pivotal role in effective process design. Therefore, thermal stability of pure 1-butyl-2,3-dimethylimidazolium chloride (BDMIMCl) was found to be higher than the sample of IL with the addition of 20% (wt.) NH4Cl as an impurity. The activation energy of thermal degradation of IL and other kinetic parameters were determined using Coats Redfern method. The activation energy for pure IL was reduced in the presence of NH4Cl as contaminant i.e., from 58.7 kJ/mol to 46.4 kJ/mol.

In this study, an imidazole ionic liquid (dodecyl-tri-methylimidazolium chloride) was employed as a collector to separate quartz from phosphorite. The micro-flotation experiments of a single mineral found that it had selective collecting ability for quartz than phosphorite. Mixed mineral flotation experiments confirmed that efficient separation results could be obtained using the imidazole ionic liquid as the collector. A concentrate with a 31.44% grade of phosphorite could be obtained with a 0.285 kg/Mg collector dosage at neutral pH, which was much better than the traditional collector dodecylamine. The adsorption mechanism of the imidazole ionic liquid on the surface of phosphorite and quartz was investigated by contact angle and zeta potential measurements, Fourier transform infrared and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy analyses. These results showed that the adsorption of imidazole ionic liquid at the quartz surface was stronger than that of phosphorite, and the collector adsorbability difference between quartz and phosphorite resulted in the efficient flotation separation. Consequently, the dodecyl-tri-methylimidazolium chloride salt is an effective collector for reverse flotation of quartz from phosphorite.

Niskotemperaturowe hydrofobowe ciecze jonowe mogą pełnić rolę rozpuszczalników w ekstrakcyjnej separacji biobutanolu uzyskiwanego metodą fermentacji beztlenowej. W trakcie badań nad równowagą ekstrakcyjną odkryto, że równowagowe składy ekstraktu i rafinatu ulegają zmianie w zależności od temperatury oraz stężeń acetonu, butanolu i etanolu w roztworze surowym. W pracy zaproponowano matematyczny opis wzajemnej rozpuszczalności cieczy jonowych i wody w modelowych układach pięcioskładnikowych.
Hydrophobic room-temperature ionic liquids can be applied as solvents in the extractive separation of biobutanol produced via microbial fermentation. While studying the extraction equilibrium, it was discovered that raffinate and extract compositions were dependent not only on process temperature but also acetone, butanol and ethanol concentrations in feed solution. This study offers a mathematical description of mutual solubility of ionic liquids and water in the model five-component systems.

Praca prezentuje zastosowanie układu mikrokanałów do konstrukcji przepływowego wiskozymetru o zminimalizowanych wymaganiach dotyczących objętości badanej próbki. Istotą jego działania jest obserwacja granicy kontaktu strumieni cieczy badanej i referencyjnej w mikrokanale i odniesienie jej pozycji do stosunków lepkości tych cieczy. Otrzymane wyniki pomiarów tak przebadanej cieczy jonowej zostały potwierdzone techniką pasywnej mikroreologii optycznej wskazując na możliwość wykorzystania obydwu technik do pomiarów, w których minimalizacja objętości próbki ma kluczowe znaczenie.
The application of microchannel-based flow-through viscometer characterized by minimized sample volume requirements is presented in the paper. The measurement was performed by the observation of laminar fluid-fluid interphase between two liquids and relating its position to viscosity ratio of both liquids. The obtained results were cross-checked with the passive optical rheometry showing a possibility of using these two techniques in case when a small sample volume is crucial.

Application of 1-butyl-3-metyhlimidazaolium hexafl uorophosphate ([C4mim][PF6 ]), in the extraction of rubidium and cesium from brine solutions using 1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane (18C6) as extractant was investigated. Parameters that affect the extraction including pH of aqueous phase, equilibration time, dosage of the ionic liquid, phase ratio, concentration of 18C6 were studied. Under the optimal conditions, the single extraction effi ciency of rubidium ions and cesium ions were up 84.11% and 94.99%, respectively. The stripping of alkali metal ions from the loaded organic phase with different stripping agents and concentrations were also investigated. The initial value of the K/Cs and K/Rb ratios were 93.0 and 104.3, respectively, which have dropped 91.21% and 88.01%, respectively, after the extraction and stripping experiments. It was taken a big step in the separation and enrichment of cesium (rubidium) ion and potassium ion. The extraction mechanism was revealed most likely to be a cation exchange mode in this system.

Chitosan–cellulose gel beads were regenerated from an ionic liquid, and their application to a metal adsorbent was examined. The chitosan–cellulose gel beads, which were prepared from 1-ethyl-3-methyl imidazolium acetate, were more stable in the acidic and basic aqueous solutions than cellulose or chitosan. The adsorption of copper on chitosan–cellulose gel beads was examined, and the adsorption amount of copper ion increased with pH, suggesting that amino groups on chitosan were related to adsorption. The adsorption isotherm of copper, zinc, and nickel ions was well described by the Langmuir model, and the adsorption ability of these metal ions obeyed the Irving-Williams series. Fe3+, Mn2+, and Co2+ from a buffer solution and Pt4+, Au3+, and Pd2+ from a hydrochloric acid solution were not adsorbed on the chitosan–cellulose gel beads.

Addition of organic acids to dilute hydrochloric acid solution can improve the extraction of rare earth elements by single cationic extractants. However, the correlation between the chemical structure of organic acids and the extraction of REEs as well as the variation in equilibrium pH has not been elucidated. In this study, we investigated the extraction of Tb(III) from dilute HCl solutions containing an organic acid like formic, lactic, fumaric, or maleic acid. As extractants, single Cyanex 272, a mixture of Cyanex 272 and Alamine 336 (Ala336-Cy272), and an ionic liquid (ALi-Cy272) synthesized by Cyanex 272 and Aliquat 336 were used. The speciation of Tb(III) in dilute HCl solutions containing organic acids was analyzed. In extraction of Tb(III), organic acids showed two roles as complexing and buffering agent, which depended on the chemical structure of the acids. There was some difference in the extraction of Tb(III) between single Cyanex 272 and ionic liquid, ALi-Cy272. During extraction with ALi-Cy272, formic and lactic acid negatively affected the extraction of Tb(III). The fact that the chemical structure of organic acids affected the extraction of Tb(III) from dilute HCl solution by the studied extractants can provide important information on the selection of suitable extraction systems.

Laccases attract attention due to their potential for manufacturing pharmaceutical intermediates from a wide array of phenolic and non-phenolic substrates that are sparingly soluble in water. Because of the high polarity of ionic liquids (ILs), they can dissolve polar and nonpolar compounds and are claimed as "green" alternative for volatile organic solvents. The main aim of this work was to find water-immiscible ILs suitable for Cerrena unicolor laccase. For that five ILs with bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide anions coupled with cations derived from natural alcohol - (1R,2S,5R)-(-)-menthol were synthesized, namely: (I) 3-butyl-1-[(1R,2S,5R)-(-)-menthoxymethyl]imidazolium, (II) 1-[(1R,2S,5R)-(-)-menthoxymethyl]-3-heptylimidazolium, (III) 1-[(1R,2S,5R)-(-)-menthoxymethyl]-3-methylpyridinium, (IV) heptyl[(1R,2S,5R)-(-)-menthoxymethyl]dimethylammonium, and (V) decyl[(1R,2S,5R)-(-)-menthoxymethyl]dimethylammonium ions. Laccase activity was tested in buffer saturated with ILs whereas stability tests in biphasic systems lasted 5 days. It was shown that ILs I, III-V did not significantly alter laccase activity (being 90-123% respective to the buffer) whereas IL II decreased reactivity in 20%. Stability tests revealed that ILs I, IV and V increased enzyme stability even more than in the buffer. For mathematical formalization of inactivation courses, isoenzyme model was applied but this model fitted experimental data only for sets obtained in the buffer (control) and in the presence of IL II. In the other cases, first-order reaction model was sufficient. This shows that ILs, even at very low concentrations, influence conformational stability of proteins, which is dependent on the cation structure. In general, the imidazolium (I) and ammonium (IV) salts with shorter alkyl chains supported laccase activity and stability.

W pracy wytworzono membranę perwaporacyjną z dodatkiem cieczy jonowej poprzez odpowiednie zmieszanie z PDMS i polikondensacyjne utwardzenie. Do badań użyto hydrofobowych cieczy jonowych: bis(trifluorometylosulfonylo)imid 1-butylo-3-metyloimidazolu oraz heksafluorofosforan 1-heksylo-3metyloimidazolu, które wykazują selektywność w stosunku do butanolu. Przeanalizowano wpływ udziału masowego składników oraz rodzaj warstwy podporowej na parametry procesowe membrany. Na wytworzonych membranach wykonano badania perwaporacyjnego zatężania biobutanolu z modelowego czteroskładnikowego układu aceton-butanol-etanol-woda. Proces prowadzony był w sposób ciągły, w warunkach ustalonych, z ciśnieniem po stronie permeatu wynoszącym 3 kPa, w temperaturze 50°C i z natężeniem przepływu nadawy 40 dm3/h. Skład permeatu i retentatu był analizowany za pomocą chromatografii gazowej. Szeroka preparatyka membran otrzymanych metodą utwardzania polikondensacyjnego mieszaniny cieczy jonowej z PDMS pozwoliła wyłonić najodpowiedniejsze membrany do procesu perwaporacji. Obserwowane strumienie procesowe były relatywnie niskie i wynikały z dodatkowych oporów spowodowanych grubością warstwy PDMS.
In this paper, the active layer of membrane containing ionic liquid was attempted. We achieve this by appropriately blending them with PDMS and hardening by polycondensation. Hydrophobic ionic liquid 1-butyl3methylimidazolium bis (trifluoromethylsulfonyl) imide and 1-hexyl-3-methylimidazilium hexafluorophosphate, which have selectivity for the butanol was used for the test. The influence of mass components and the kind of support layer on the membrane process parameters was analyzed. Then the prepared membranes were tested at PV process in order to separate and concentrate biobutanol from the model quaternary solution: acetone-butanolethanolwater. The process was carried out continuously in a steady state conditions. The permeate side pressure was 3 kPa, feed temperature 50°C and the feed flow rate 40 dm3/h. The composition of the permeate and retentate were analyzed using gas chromatography. Preparation of membranes obtained by polycondensation hardening of mixture of ionic liquid and PDMS allowed to emerge the most appropriate membranes for the PV process. The observed permeate flux was at the relatively low level due to additional resistance cause by PDMS layer.
