Opis:
This paper presents a mathematical model of a power controller for a high-frequency induction heating system based on a modified half-bridge series resonant inverter. The output real power is precise over the heating coil, and this real power is processed as a feedback signal that contends a closed-loop topology with a proportional-integral-derivative controller. This technique enables both control of the closed-loop power and determination of the stability of the high-frequency inverter. Unlike the topologies of existing power controllers, the proposed topology enables direct control of the real power of the high-frequency inverter.

The proof of a concept for a new method of modulation has been presented which reduce switch count in a three-level neutral point clamped (3L-NPC) inverter. The method is an implementation of space vector modulation (SVM) by means of a prediction algorithm and sequences of transistors, which are not common in use. Those sequences make active use of clamping diodes of the inverter. The prediction algorithm analyzes possible sequences of transistors’ states and choose those which offers smaller switch count. Measurements of steady states were taken on prototype 3L-NPC.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to present a concept of implementation of a space vector modulation (SVM) algorithm, which is used to create alternating current waveforms of changing amplitude and frequency in power inverters. The main goal of the method is to decrease the number of state changes in power transistors. It is realized by utilizing a prediction algorithm and sequences of transistors, which are not common in use. The method requires measurement of inverter output current flow. The prediction algorithm analyzes possible sequences of transistors’ states and choose those which offers smaller switch count. A decrease of about 20% was obtained for the cases tested. This paper presents simulation result for selected driving scenario. The described method decreases the number of state changes in power transistors and therefore it is a potentially good method to considerably decrease energy losses of multilevel inverter-powered drive.

Opis:
This paper proposed a new voltage-boosting 13-level switched-capacitor (SC) cost-effective inverter. The proposed topology comprises fourteen transistors, three capacitors and a single DC source to produce a 13-level staircase waveform. The capacitor voltage balancing problem is inherently solved by the series/parallel technique. Structural description, working principle, calculation of optimum values of capacitance and modulation scheme are briefly described. The comparative analyses with the existing SC multilevel inverter (MLI) in terms of voltage gain, blocking voltage, total standing voltage (TSV), component per level factor and cost function illustrate the merits of the proposed topology. Further, simulation and experimental results at different loading conditions verify the feasibility of the proposed topology.

Opis:
The commonly applied electrical networks with an insulated neutral point in ships are not able to protect against electric shock, due to the presence of capacitance between phase wires and the hull, which increases the values of shock current. A new approach to solve this problem is presented. The new idea is based on active compensation of shock current using current sources inserted between the phase wires and the metallic hull. A four-leg transistor inverter controlled by a signal processor (DSP) and a logic programmable array (FPGA) was used as a set of current sources. The arrangement of the test stand obtained for the experimental checking of the concept compensation of shock current is presented together with the experimental results.

Opis:
In this study, a new circuit topology using a Z-source resonant inverter (ZSRI) for high power applications in large-air-gap contactless power transfer (CPT) systems, has been investigated. The main shortcoming of a large-air-gap CPT system is the poor power transfer efficiency due to low magnetic coupling. In order to minimize this shortcoming and to improve the overall performance of the system by boosting the power transfer capability, in this paper a CPT system with the newly developed circuit topology using high frequency Z-source resonant inverter has been proposed. Using the newly developed circuit topology for the CPT system, it has been observed that the overall performance of the system has been improved to a reasonable level with a purely sinusoidal resonant current flowing through the primary side. Therefore, no harmonics will be injected into the source. The proposed CPT system with an air gap of 16 cm and a misalignment of 3 cm has been simulated using the Maxwell finite element tool and Simplorer circuit simulation software for an output power of 2 kW.

Opis:
A novel circuit topology of modified switched boost high frequency hybrid resonant inverter fitted induction heating equipment is presented in this paper for efficient induction heating. Recently, induction heating technique is becoming very popular for both domestic and industrial purposes because of its high energy efficiency and controllability. Generally in induction heating, a high frequency alternating magnetic field is required to induce the eddy currents in the work piece. High frequency resonant inverters are incorporated in induction heating equipment which produce a high frequency alternating magnetic field surrounding the coil. Previously this high frequency alternating magnetic field was produced by voltage source inverters. But VSIs have several demerits. So, in this paper, a new scheme of modified switched boost high frequency hybrid resonant inverter fitted induction heating equipment has been depicted which enhances the energy efficiency and controllability and the same is validated by PSIM.

This paper presents a novel concept of a circuit for voltage balance of three series-connected capacitors or batteries, as well as the research results. The problem is related to the control of voltage sharing on series capacitors, supercapacitors or battery banks in energy storage systems or direct current (DC)-link of four-level neutral-point-clamped inverters. The proposed circuit is a switched-capacitor (SC) resonant converter composed of a single capacitor and seven transistor switches. Control of the converter makes it possible to transfer energy between any capacitors, by switching selected transistors. This paper presents the basic concept of the converter, an analysis of control strategies and the simulation results for various cases of voltage balancing.

A novel in-phase disposition (IPD) SPWM pulse allocation strategy applied to a cascaded H-bridge (CHB) converter is presented in this paper. The reason causing the power of the CHB converter imbalance is analyzed according to the traditional structure, the conception of power imbalance degree is introduced and the principle of the novel in-phase disposition SPWM allocation strategy is deduced in detail. The new pulse allocation scheme can ensure the power balance in 3/4 cycles through interchanging the PWM pulse sequence of the different CHB cell, meanwhile it makes the full advantage of the IPD control strategy, lower the total harmonic distortion (THD) of line voltage compared to a carrier phase shifted (CPS) control strategy, which is verified by theoretical derivation. A seven-level cascaded inverter composed by three H-bridge cells is taken as the example. The simulation and experiment is performed. The results indicate the validity of the analysis and verify the effectiveness of the proposed SPWM allocation strategy.

Control of parallel quasi resonant dc link inverters (PQRDCLI) is usually based on dc link input inverter current. Instead of a direct measurement of this noise sensitive and fast changing current signal - its estimation with one step prediction may be considered. Estimation of an input inverter current is based on inverter output current measurements, applied in most of power electronics controlled ac drives. In this paper, the PQRDCLI fed induction motor (IM) with a predictive current estimation stabilizes resonant inverter output voltage slopes du/dt independently of load. By control of output voltage derivatives, reduction of overvoltage spikes and common mode motor currents is achieved. An analysis of the PQRDCLI control with a predictive current estimation strategy is verified by the Saber system simulation and experimental tests in a laboratory setup.

This paper deals with the monolithic integration of switching cells that are used in power electronics for the realization of static power converters. The aim of the monolithic integration of the power switching cells is to suppress wire bonds in order to improve electrical performance as well as reliability of power modules intended for medium power applications. Within this context, the single chip integration approach presented in this paper constitutes a solution and a promising approach that combines judiciously multiple reverse conducting IGBT switches in a single Si-chip. The operating modes of the integrated structure are validated in an inverter application using 2D Sentaurus simulations. The targeted packaging of the single chip converter on DBC/IMS substrates doesn’t use any wire bonding and doesn’t exhibit any dv/dt stress directly on the DBC/IMS substrates.

This paper presents the design and analysis process of state feedback controllers for NPC type 3-level sine wave inverter. In order to achieve good dynamic features in a state feedback control an internal model of reference input and a feedforward path are introduced. During synthesis process of the state feedback controllers maximum permissible dynamics of voltage control in the linear range of modulation is taken into account. It is shown that initially gains of the controller and feedforward path are non-stationary and depend on the angular velocity. Stationary approximation of a non-stationary state feedback controller is presented in details. Proposed state feedback control structures for continuous voltage shaping NPC type 3-level voltage source inverter are examined in FOC PMSM drive. The novelty of the presented controller lays in a stationary approximated state feedback control structure designed in terms of maximum permissible dynamics of a voltage control system. Simulation and experimental results (at the level of 3 kW) of the designed control algorithms are included.

In the experimental amplifier with a transformer as the only inductive component in the circuit high efficiency ηMAX = 0.95 was achieved for supply voltage VI = 36 V, maximum output power POMAX = 100 W and the switching frequency f = 300 kHz. Measured parameters and waveforms showed a good agreement with theoretical predictions. Moreover, the relative bandwidth of the switching frequency was only 19% to obtain output power control from 4.8 W to POMAX with efficiency not less than 0.9 in the regulation range.

Opis:
Explored in this paper is the grid impedance effect on the stability of a single-phase grid connected inverter with an LC filter based on an analysis of the inverter output impedance. For a single-phase grid connected inverter, a PI controller is often used to regulate the current injected into the grid. However, the control performance can be influenced when the inverter is connected to a weak grid. Also, the utility grid has background harmonic noise, which can make the injected current distorted. Therefore, analysis of the output impedance of a single-phase grid connected inverter is important for the robustness and stability of the system. By modeling the output impedance of inverter, it can be determined that the proportional gain and integral gain of the controller have an effect on the output impedance. Analytical results show that by adjusting the PI controller parameters, the ability for harmonic reduction and stability of the system can be improved. Simulation and experiments using a 1 kW single-phase grid connected inverter verify the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis.
