In this research note, I examine a set of two interrelated questions about the Qualitative Comparative Analysis (QCA) methods institutes. First, I assembled and analyzed a novel dataset that tracks every QCA related training worldwide from 2002 to 2018. My examination finds that although QCA trainings are becoming more popular in Europe, the US is still the single most frequent host country for such events. Secondly, I examine the extent to which gender gap exists among QCA instructors. My findings show that female QCA instructors are severely under-represented, which likely limits their academic and professional opportunities. Thus, the QCA research community appears to be marked by the same structural challenges to diversity and gender equality as other areas of political science. Overall, this paper should of interest to scholars interested in the impact of academic infrastructures on future research trajectories as well as those concerned about gender equality in academia.

Opis:
Industrial policy plays a great role in modern strategies of economic development due to global challenges and increasing world competition. The goal of the paper is the determination of institutional factors of industrial policy implementation and groups of countries with the similar institutional environment using cluster analysis. The institutional determinants defining industrial development include cultural values (indulgence vs restraint, long-term orientation vs short-term orientation), prevalence of Putnam’s social groups, governance effectiveness and democracy regime, low level of corruption, efficient legislation, liberal base of economy, and high level of property rights protection. These determinants can be represented in 8 world indicators calculated by international organizations and G. Hofstede: 1) the level of society liberalization score; 2) society long-term orientation score; 3) Democracy Index; 4) Corruption Perception Index; 5) Property Rights Index; 6) Ease of Doing Business Rank; 7) Institutions index as a component of Global Index of Competitiveness; 8) Government Effectiveness (WGI). On the appropriate data of 76 countries of the world we obtained 9 clusters of countries with similar institutional parameters for industrial policy implementation. 2 groups contain highly developed countries; 4 groups contain predominantly transformation economies, and 3 groups consist of developing countries with low and low-middle income. As it turned out these countries have also similar macroeconomic indicators and some other institutional aspects like religion and trust in government. The distinction of countries on their institutional indicators is a base for development of the certain type of industrial policy (technological modernization, innovative, protectionism etc.), which is aimed on the dynamic industrial development.

Aim: The aim of this text is to present the methods of educating special school teachers in selected European countries in the interwar period. Methods: While working on the text, the methods appropriate for the history of child-rearing and social science were applied. Results: The result is an indication of similarities and differences in the way of educating special school teachers in selected European countries. Conclusions: In most European countries, in the interwar period, special school teachers were trained to work on courses for professionally active teachers, only in a few countries, including Poland, separate institutes operated.

This is a research article whose main objective is to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the activities of research institutes in Poland. The sources of the paper are the results of surveys conducted twice in 2020, on a selected sample of research institutes associated with the Main Council of Research Institutes. For the purposes of the article, surveys of the literature and available sources were made, and the method of analysis and synthesis was applied. The article closes with a summary containing the most important conclusions.

The aim of this article is to characterise new and traditional borders of the Russian East from the perspective of transboundary cooperation. Weak institutes by which regional economy in the border regional is trapped are characterised in the paper. Case study of the timber industry is used as an illustration. Ecosystem approach is presented as an instrument to balance environmental risks. Methodologically the paper is based on the theory of border, Paul Krugman’s theory of spatial economic development and the World Bank classification scheme of development, and ecosystem approach as a component of environmental economy.

The main tasks of the leading scientific centres in Poland, that is. universities, scientific institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences and research institutes are discussed. On the example of the Institute of Innovative Technologies EMAG changes adapting its role and tasks to the market environment has been shown. In short the genesis of EMAG and its 37 years of work - at the beginning as a research and development unit, recently as a research institute - is shown. Changes in approach to statutory activities and market activities in the aspect of the act on research institutes and trends in changes of the assessment of scientific units are discussed. Moreover, the existing legal conditions for public-private partnership in the context of the act on research institutes is discussed. In the end examples of achievements of the Institute of Innovative Technologies EMAG are mentioned.

A growing number of entities operating in the Polish sector of higher education and science and research aspire to have an active presence in foreign markets and even in the global mar-ket. This presence must be accompanied by thoughtful marketing strategies using effective marketing tools. The aim of the article is to indicate the possibility of using the knowledge of international marketing to increase the efficiency of the entities of the Polish sector of educa-tion and research. Particular attention was paid to the intercultural nature of the international marketing, especially in relation to the system to communicate with foreign customers in the Internet space. The article uses the following sources of information: official statistics, rese-arch reports, professional periodicals, case studies.
Rosnąca liczba podmiotów działających w polskim sektorze edukacji na poziomie wyższym oraz sektorze nauki i badań aspiruje do aktywnej obecności na rynkach zagranicznych, a nie-które z nich na rynku globalnym. Tej obecności muszą towarzyszyć przemyślane strategie marketingu wykorzystujące efektywne narzędzia marketingowe. Celem artykułu jest wskaza-nie możliwości wykorzystania wiedzy o marketingu międzynarodowym dla podniesienia sku-teczności działań podmiotów polskiego sektora edukacji i badań w zagranicznym otoczeniu. Szczególną uwagę zwrócono na interkulturowy charakter marketingu międzynarodowego, w tym zwłaszcza w odniesieniu do systemu komunikowania się z zagranicznymi odbiorcami w przestrzeni Internetu. W artykule wykorzystano następujące źródła informacji: statystyka publiczna, raporty z badań, fachowe czasopiśmiennictwo, studia przypadków.

Dokumenty Stolicy Apostolskiej z ostatniego okresu reflektują mocniej znaczenie odpowiedzialnego zarządzania majątkiem w instytutach zakonnych, zaś nadzór nad jego transparentnością i jego znaczenie zostały włączone nawet w sferze formacji zakonnej. Artykuł rekapituluje pozycję instytutów zakonnych w ramach Kościoła lokalnego, ich współpracę w zakresie zarządzania majątkiem oraz dotychczasowe kroki w zarządzaniu majątkiem zakonnym w RCz przez kilka pierwszych lat realizacji ustawy nr 428/2012 ZU o wyrównaniu majątkowym z Kościołami i związkami wyznaniowymi. Ustawa przewiduje restytucje naturalne oraz kompensacje finansowe. Pieniądze z rekompensat za niezwrócony majątek instytuty zakonne częściowo deponują, a część inwestują. Celem ma być przyszłe zupełne oddzielenie majątkowe Kościołów (a więc i zakonów) od państwa i umożliwienie samowystarczalności finansowej Kościołów.
Recent documents of the Apostolic See more strongly reflect the importance of responsible property management in religious institutes, the supervision and transparency of such administration and even incorporated its importance in the field of religious formation. The article recapitulates the position of religious institutes within the local church, their cooperation in the area of property management and finally also concrete steps in the management of religious institutes in the Czech Republic after the first few years of implementation of Act No. 428/2012 Coll., on proeprty settlement with churches and religious societies. The law includes physical restitution in kind with financial compensation. Religious institutes partially deposit and partially invest money from financial compensation for unreleased property. The aim of these steps in the future should be the economic separation of churches (including religious orders) from the state, which enable financial self-sufficiency of churches.

The methodological, organizational and managerial problems concerning the global environmental policy were represented in the paper. The peculiarities of implementation of global environmental policy in the European Union and Ukraine were analyzed and on the basis of this analysis the content and structure of the policy were structured. The attention was focused on institutional characteristics and factors of development of global environmental policy and its innovative potential in the framework of implementing the green economy and sustainable regional development priorities. Threats and opportunities of global environmental policy in the context of regional nature management and protection of natural resources and corporate responsibility and corporate governance were researched. The wide range of international organizations as part of global environmental policy was reviewed. Thesis about institutional imperfection of international environmental policy in Ukraine (the so-called "vacuum of institutions") was grounded. The ways of the organizational and managerial solutions to the identified problems were represented.

In the 21st century, in addition to the generally well-known indicators of material well-being, in the modern paradigm of the welfare state, the quality of the ecological environment is gaining an ever-increasing role. In the context of interdisciplinary research, the formation of the ecological consciousness as a way of being is important for today, in which citizens feel a direct connection with the natural environment, trying to preserve it for prosperity people. Studies of the connection between economic and environmental development are often confined to financial-economic interactions, leaving out the attention of the educational and scientific components of the problem. The article is devoted to the study of the ecological component of the social welfare, as well as the analysis of the impact of quantitative and qualitative indicators (governance quality, development of democracy, GDP per capita, value orientations) on the Environmental Performance Index as a comprehensive indicator of environmental welfare assessment. The hypothesis is that along with effectiveness indicators of the state policy (quality of governance, democracy index), the demand for the public good for the environmental quality is determined by the ability to invest in the environment (GDP per person) and the dominance of the self-realization values over the survival values. Using economic and mathematical modeling it is proved that the indicators of governance quality and the level of development of democracy play a key role in shaping the ecological component of well-being, while the level of GDP per person and values is influenced with less intensity. It is substantiated that public policy should be aimed directly at improving governance efficiency and the development of democracy and civil society.
W XXI wieku, oprócz powszechnie znanych wskaźników materialnego dobrobytu, w nowoczesnym modelu państwa socjalnego, coraz większą rolę odgrywa jakość środowiska naturalnego. W kontekście badań interdyscyplinarnych na dzień dzisiejszy ważne jest kształtowanie świadomości ekologicznej, jako sposobu bycia, w którym obywatele odczuwają bezpośredni związek ze środowiskiem, starając się zachować je dla dobrobytu ludzi. Badania związków między ekonomicznym i ekologicznym rozwojem często są zawężone do ekonomicznych interakcji, z pominięciem kwestii edukacyjnych i naukowych. Artykuł jest poświęcony ekologicznemu komponentowi zabezpieczenia społecznego, a także analizie wpływu ilościowych i jakościowych wskaźników (jakość zarządzania, rozwój demokracji, PKB na mieszkańca, wartości orientacji) na Indeks Wydajności Środowiskowej (Environmental Performance Index), jako kompleksowego wskaźnika oceny jakości środowiska. Założona hipoteza zakłada, że wraz ze wskaźnikami skuteczności polityki publicznej (jakość zarządzania, indeks demokracji) o popycie na dobro publiczne jakość środowiska decyduje zdolność do inwestowania w środowisko (PKB na osobę) i przewaga wartości samorealizacji nad wartościami przetrwania. Wykorzystując ekonomiczno-matematyczne modelowanie udowodniono, że wskaźniki jakości zarządzania i poziomu rozwoju demokracji odgrywają kluczową rolę w kształtowaniu środowiskowego elementu dobrobytu, podczas gdy poziom PKB na mieszkańca oraz wartości wpływają w mniejszym stopniu. Ponadto udowodniono, że polityka publiczna powinna być skierowana bezpośrednio na zwiększenie efektywności zarządzania i rozwój demokratycznego społeczeństwa obywatelskiego.

The article aims at the presentation of the origins and beginnings of reading rooms: Italian, Austrian and French in the People’s Republic of Poland until the end of the 60s of the 20th century, in a broader context of bilateral relations of Poland with France, Italy, and Austria. That enabled the determination of controversial issues restraining a process of establishing these units, as well as historical context influencing this process. The findings were based on archival source materials and a few research studies.
