    The article refers to the issues linked with defining hybridization of development concept, along with its application to sectoral approach. Its aim is on the one hand an attempt to strictly define the category of hybrid development in a context of inputs, products and effects, and on the other hand an initial verification of the hybridization of development concept within the green economy and real estate sectors. This allows defining and solving the following research problem: how should the hybridization concept be understood and what are the effects of its manifestation in selected green economy and real estate sectors? Conclusions arising from the research indicate that linking quite different inputs, and then creating on their base multifunctional and elastic solutions leads in consequence to hybrid or patchwork changes taking place in sectors and territories. These kinds of processes can suggest appearing of new patterns of development, arising from the mechanism of neoliberal capitalism, territorial legacy and globalisation.

    Problematyka artykułu dotyczy inwestycji sektora biznesu w zurbanizowaną tkankę miejską. Główny problem badawczy brzmi: w jaki sposób zmiany w strukturze zurbanizowanej tkanki miejskiej, w postaci inwestycji sektora biznesu w nowoczesną powierzchnię biurową, mogą determinować hybrydyzację rozwoju w sektorze nieruchomości komercyjnych? Główny cel badawczy artykułu dotyczy identyfikacji zmian w strukturze zurbanizowanej tkanki miejskiej w postaci inwestycji sektora biznesu w nowoczesną powierzchnię biurową, mogących wpływać na hybrydyzację rozwoju w sektorze nieruchomości komercyjnych. W warstwie metodycznej badania wykorzystano kwerendę bibliograficzną, a także studia przypadku, tj. parametryzację rynku nowoczesnej powierzchni biurowej w: Katowicach, Krakowie, Łodzi, Poznaniu, Warszawie i Wrocławiu (na podstawie branżowych raportów), wzbogacone o analizę dynamiki zjawisk, sondaż, a także ocenę wielokryterialną.
    The issue of the paper concerns business sector’s investments in urbanised space in a city. The main problem which was undertaken sounds: how changes in a structure of urbanised city space, as business sector’s investments in modern office space, can determinate a hybridization development in a commercial real estate sector? The main exploratory goal concern an identification the changes in a structure of urbanised area in a city, in the form of business sector investments in a modern office space, which can influence on a hybridization development in commercial real estate sector. In methodological purview of researches it was used a desk research and case studies, i.e. a parametrization of a modern office space market in: Katowice, Kraków, Łódź, Poznań, Warszawa and Wrocław (based on sectoral reports), enriched by dynamics phenomenon analysis, a survey and also an multi-criteria evaluation.

    Zamierzeniem artykułu jest próba zdefiniowania koncepcji hybrydyzacji rozwoju, a także zainicjowanie dyskusji, w jaki sposób podejście to może wzbogacać współczesne koncepcje rozwoju wykorzystywane w ekonomii regionalnej i geografii ekonomicznej. Artykuł ma charakter teoretyczny i bazuje na metodyce studiów literaturowych. W pierwszej części przedstawiono wprowadzenie do problematyki hybrydyzacji rozwoju w kontekście współczesnych zjawisk globalizacyjnych. W kolejnej przybliżono pojęcia związane z hybrydyzacją rozwoju. Następnie poddano analizie ujęcie sektorowe i przestrzenne hybrydyzacji oraz sformułowano propozycję ogólnego ujęcia tej koncepcji. Artykuł kończą rozważania na temat znaczenia hybrydyzacji rozwoju w kontekście wybranych współczesnych koncepcji rozwoju wykorzystywanych w ekonomii regionalnej i geografii ekonomicznej.
    The intention of this article is an attempt to define the concept of development hybridization, and launch a discussion on how this concept can enrich contemporary development concepts used in the regional economics and the economic geography. The article has a theoretical character and is based on the methodology of literature studies. The first part of the paper introduces the problem of hybridization of development in the context of contemporary globalization phenomena. The next part defines the concepts related to hybridization of development. Then, the sectoral and 40 Adam Drobniakspatial approach to hybridization was analysed and a proposal was made for a general approach to the concept of development hybridization. The article ends with reflections on the impact of the hybridization of development on selected contemporary concepts of development used in the regional economics and the economic geography.

    Embryo development of Lupinus albus L. and L. mutabilis Sweet. after pollination with L. angustifolius L. was studied. Observations of ovules revealed non-typical embryo development. From the 5th day after pollination, high number of degenerated ovules was found; the highest number was observed on 15 and 20 days after pollination. The period between the 10th and 15th day after pollination was the most suitable for isolation of embryos in all the examined combinations, with exception L. albus x L. angustifolius where optimal isolation time was between 15th and 20 th day after pollination. Embryos were obtained in each cross-pollination. Some of them developed in vitro into plantlets and grew in an artificial medium for some time, but most of them died due to non-typical development of the root system, stem, or both. The hybrid character of the survived plants requires confirmation.

    The SUMO-conjugating enzyme Ubc9 is an essential enzyme in the SUMO (small ubiquitin-related modifier) protein modification system. Although sumoylation, covalent modification of cellular proteins by SUMO, is considered to regulate various cellular processes, and many substrates for sumoylation have been identified recently, the regulation of Ubc9 expression has not been examined in detail. We analyzed the expression of Ubc9 during rat brain development at the mRNA and protein levels. Northern and Western blot analyses revealed that expression of Ubc9 and SUMO-1 was developmentally regulated, while that of the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme UbcH7 did not change so dramatically. In situ hybridization analysis revealed that the expression of Ubc9 was high in neuronal stem cells and moderate in differentiated neurons at embryonic stages. In the adult brain, moderate expression was observed in subsets of neurons, such as the dentate granular neurons and pyramidal neurons in the hippocampal formation and the large pyramidal neurons in the cerebral cortex. These results suggest that the Ubc9-SUMO system might participate in the proliferation and differentiation of neuronal cells in the developing brain and in neuronal plasticity in the adult brain.

    Shmuel N. Eisenstadt has fundamentally modified the classical theory of modernization. Over the course of his work, which is connected with the changes of sociological theory since the 1950s, he has executed a turn from the comparative analysis of institutions to the research program of comparative civilizations. The research program of multiple modernities has emerged out of this attentional shift coming from the First Research Program 1986, which led to “multiple modernities” and to the Second Research Program 2003. A key milestone was the critique of the theory of structural differentiation as the main process underlying the sociostructural evolution of societies; this began with The Political Systems of Empires (1963), along with the development of convergence theories of modernization, which have had impact on contemporary sociological theory beginning with that same book. In the meantime, the research program of multiple modernities now continues into the Third Research Program of Multiple Modernities, Membership, and Globalization 2016 and its implementation (Preyer and Sussman, 2016a, b). Firstly, I will show how the program seeks to sketch an updated vision of the theoretical systematization of research on globalization since the 1990s. Secondly, I will go on to sketch the foci of research within the Third Research Program in our era of globalization; finally, I shall outline some consequences of changes in the research situation within sociological theory.

    Different starting points, similar processes and different outcomes can be identified when comparing East Central Europe and East and South Asia. The two regions face similar global challenges, follow regional patterns of democratization and face crises. In communist times, East Central Europe was economically marginalized in the world economy, while some parts of Asia integrated well in the global economy under authoritarian rule. Europeanization and a favorable external environment encouraged the former communist countries to opt for the Western-style rule of law and democracy. Different external factors helped the Third Wave democracies in Asia, especially South Korea and Taiwan, which benefited from the support of the United States and other global economic, military and cultural partnerships to develop their human rights culture and democracy while facing their totalitarian counterparts, namely the People’s Republic of China and North Korea. The very different positions Taiwan and Hungary have in their respective regions follow from the different capacities of their transformation management since 1988-1989. Taiwan preserved its leading role and stable democracy despite the threat to its sovereignty from the People’s Republic of China. Hungary never had such an influential and problematic neighbor and was ensured security and welfare partnership by the European Union, which Taiwan lacked. While Taiwan was less secure, economic and social conditions were more favorable for democratization than those in Hungary. Hungary, in turn, held a leading position in democratization processes in the period of post-communist transition which was lost during the crisis and conflicts of the last decade (after 2006 and especially since 2010). Despite the fact that liberalization prepared the way for peaceful transition in both countries and resulted in similar processes of democratic consolidation in the 1990s, Hungary joined the ‘loser’ group in its region, whereas Taiwan is among the top ‘winning’ countries in its region. Taiwan at the moment is starting comprehensive reform processes toward enhanced democracy, civil rights and the rule of law, and Hungarian development is criticized by many external and internal analysts as straying from the path of European-style consolidated democracies towards illiberal trends and hybridization. Western global concepts of democratization may help to identify similarities and differences, and compare stronger and weaker factors in the democratic transitions in Asia and Europe within the Third Wave democracies.

    Miasta, jako że są systemami otwartymi, coraz częściej są wystawione na negatywne zjawiska o charakterze wewnętrznym lub zewnętrznym. W obliczu nowych wyzwań coraz częściej, w kwestiach rozwoju miast, podejmuje się problem budowy ich odporności, w tym zdolności adaptacji do zmian klimatu. W literaturze przedmiotu wskazuje się na różnorodną paletę działań w tym zakresie. Celem artykułu jest udowodnienie, iż poprzez odpowiednie projektowanie przestrzeni publicznej możliwa staje się adaptacja do zmian klimatu. Autor na potrzeby opracowania posługuje się sformułowaniem „hybrydyzacja przestrzeni publicznej”. Pod tym pojęciem rozumie, iż zaprojektowana przestrzeń publiczna może mieć charakter hybrydowy, czyli może równolegle pełnić dwie różne funkcje (lub więcej), często do siebie niepasujące. Pierwszą z nich będzie funkcja pierwotna, np. rekreacyjna, a druga, tzw. wtórna, będzie związana ze zdolnością adaptacji do zmian klimatu. W artykule Autor prezentuje podstawowe informacje na temat adaptacji do zmian klimatu, odporności miejskiej, wskazuje na znaczenie kształtowania przestrzeni publicznej w rozwoju miasta oraz prezentuje przykłady przestrzeni hybrydowych, jakie występują m.in. w miastach europejskich. Rozważania uzupełnia wskazaniem innych obszarów, działań, które umożliwiają posługiwanie się pojęciem hybrydyzacji w kontekście adaptacji i odporności miejskiej.
    Cities are open systems, therefore are exposed to internal or internal disadvantages. Facing new challenges, adaptation to climate change and urban resilience are an important topics. The aim of the article is to signal that by properly designing the public space it is possible to adapt cities to climate change. The author, as required, is formulating „the hybridization of public space”. It means that public space can be like hybrids. It may perform at least two functions. The first one is the primary function, like recreation, the second one allows adaptation to climate change so-called secondary disability ability to adapt to climate change. The author presents basic information on adaptation to climate change, urban resilience, points to the importance of shaping public space in urban development, and presents examples of hybrid spaces in European cities. The reflections complement the indication of other areas, activities that allow the use of the concept of hybridization in the context of adaptation and urban resilience.
