Opis:
Hope-Action Theory presents a theoretical structure that holds Hope as the center point of career development. Associated with hope are competencies such as self-reflection, self-clarity, visioning, goal setting and planning, implementation, and adapting. There also are environmental factors that influence the entire career development process. In order to assess the practical utility of Hope-Action Theory a series of intervention research studies were initiated in different contexts. This article reviews the results from these studies. The first one applied specific active interventions with a group of internationally trained health professionals. The second study involved unemployed clients using a series of face-to-face and online interventions. The third group focused on the needs of refugees and was set up with a control and experimental groups using a two week group delivery approach. Positive results from all of these studies supports the utility of Hope-Action Theory and the set of active interventions that were used in this research.

Chronic low back pain affects 50-80% of the population, while its consequences may impair the functioning of patients suffering from it, in many spheres of life . Hope is a factor which may influence coping with pain as well as cognitive reflection of pain experience. The aim of the study has been to check: 1) whether dependencies exist between hope-trait and hope-state and the perception of pain; 2) whether experiencing pain at the time of filling questionnaires matters for the assessment of the level of hope; 3) whether there is interaction between hope, the pain experienced at the moment of investigation, and memory of the intensity of previously experienced pain. 150 patients participated in the study, they all reported aggravation of the chronic low back pain syndrome. The study was a cross-sectional study, based on questionnaires. On the third day of treatment the subjects were given the following questionnaires: Trait Hope Scale, State Hope Scale, and Numerical Rating Scale of Pain to fill. Poor correlation was demonstrated to exist between hope-state and hope-pathways on the one hand, and the intensity of minimum pain level experienced during the first three days of treatment. It has been noted that the presence of pain at the time of filling questionnaires results in reducing the hope-state, but only in those persons, who had experienced severe pain previously. On the other hand, in case of patients who had experienced slight pain previously, the pain present when filling in the questionnaires is conducive to enhanced hope-state. The results of the study confirm the complex character of relations between hope and pain.

Opis:
This study aimed to measure the hope level of Iranian English-major students and also to find out if their gender, academic degree, years spent in a program, and GPA were associated with their hope level. To reach these aims, the Integrative Hope Scale developed by Sharpe, McElheran, and Whelton (2017) was modified, checked for validity, and piloted. Then, it was distributed among 206 English-major students doing their BA, MA, and PhD in different universities of Iran, chosen through random and snowball sampling. The analysis of the data through non-parametric tests showed that although undergraduate and postgraduate students enjoyed a higher level of hope, there was no significant difference in the students’ hope level based on their academic degree. Furthermore, no significant relationship was found between students’ levels of hope, on the one hand, and their GPA and the number of years spent in a program, on the other hand. However, there was a significant difference between male and female students, with males having a higher level of hope.

Realizm i uniwersalizm rozwija nadzieję i umożliwia osobie branie udziału w odczytaniu porządku i wizji rzeczywistości.
Hope motivates every action, and makes targets that are difficult to achieve become achievable. It is the basic way to enter into the reality of the human condition and to participate in it creatively. Hope is a universal and real trait. Realism and universalism develop hope and allow the person to take part in reading the order and vision of reality. With hope, a man can understand what his provisionalness is and how his future is born; he finds himself in everyday life. In hope there is great liberating potential. In its deepest content, it is trusting God, who is faithful to his promises.

Opis:
Pedagogical reflection is accompanied from the start by the conviction that upbringing is an art and requires a particular kind of sensitivity, innovativity in action and creative engagement. Upbringing today is upbringing in a society that is diverse, wavering, full of tension, and in which there are many opportunities for choice, great personal responsibility, with life chances, but also with many dangers. This is why an authentic upbringing requires, above all, a closeness and trust which brings love, a first and fundamental experience which is, or at least which ought to be, the love of a child by its parents. The upbringer, thus, stands in a relationship to the upbringee as with a person, and not a material which may be freely formed. The upbringing itself is aiming towards the future positive development of the child such that s/he will be able to realize his/her “potential”, shape his/her will and develop as an “inimitable person” both in the individual and social senses. The “realisation of the individual” which takes place during upbringing leaves space for hope. In the promise and hope the future interacts with the human life even now, and by the same token shows the sense behind upbringing. Whereas, from the perspective of “Christian realism”, it is emphasised that the individual always finds finds him or herself in a certain “existential situation”. And so upbringing is not merely a dialogue and a relationship between people, but it is also a real relationship with God. It is God who comes to meet the individual in history and who gives him the unfailing promise of total fulfilment (joy, a sense of life). In this view the sign of hope is also the building of a future (a community) through respecting the natural laws and fundamental freedoms of people and nations.

Hope accompanies man in the pursuit of fulfilling something that is essential and necessary for human existence. It counteracts the sense of loss of the most important values for a human being. A lack of hope leads people to despair; and thus often to make decisions leading to irreversible life situations. Hope lets people pass through the most difficult moments and periods of life. On the one hand; it shapes the existential vision of a human being; filled with his trust; faith in a better; favorable destiny; and on the other - affects his sense of transcendence; which pervades comfort. Hope improves human life. And although there is no hope without fear; it is the way of seeking the meaning of life. Hope is a force that especially protects those who are on the verge of despair that takes the sense of bleakness. As a rational being assigned to the structure of personality of every human being; it can be perceived in several contradictory dimensions. Hope is the cause that improves all dimensions of every human life. It realizes itself through the world of values to which a human is heading without which he cannot shape the quality of his life. Hope has its own structure through which one should understand a certain system of peculiar properties coming with different strength into mutual relations; which are both its elements and constitute the whole that decide for the individual and unique character of the sense of hope in the case of every human being. The question arises about the meaning of hope; its place and role in pedagogical processes; in which the conscious subjects are people that are brought up and raised. The pedagogy of hope is an attempt to penetrate the essence of particularly important elements/factors supporting the development of the human personality.

The anal-ysis included is focused on a merciful lie, a lie caused by pity, which determines significantly the course of action and the protagonists’ lives, saves their health or even life; a lie that results from good and love for other people.

Other factors facilitating the experience of posttraumatic growth were hope and basic trust, as well as the theme of agency present in the narratives.

Opis:
The aim of the article is to present the role of the phenomenon of hope in the philosophy of education of Wojciech Chudy. The contemporary philosophies of hope, of G. Marcel, P. Ricoeur and personalistic thought of J. Tischner and John Paul II, are the background of the discussion. Ontic and axiological basis of hope might be found in the structure of a man. Hope is built upon the personal features of: potential, contingency, transcendence, connected with the temporal dimension of life – constant inclination towards future and absolute values. It is also rooted in features of dignity, ability to discover and choose the truth, which are realized in acts of love. They make the upbringing of a man “the work on the human hope” that aims to attain the plenitude of personal development by the subjects of educational relation. It is realized by the effort of self-education, motivated by the testimony of the educator, emerging in the attitudes of dialogue and encounter. The hope has its special meaning in the border situations of the human existence (suffering, illness, death). It enables to discover their sense and directs towards eschatological perspective of the ultimate hope of the eternal life. The phenomenon of hope, expressed in the philosophical-pedagogic thought of Wojciech Chudy, brings the positive view on life and development of a man, which becomes the motive of undertaking pedagogical actions.

Objective. The aim of the study is to compare the hope of rural and urban inhabitants in the terminal stage of a neoplastic disease covered by stationary hospice care. Materials and method. The study was carried out among patients in the terminal phase of a neoplastic disease. They were patients of both 24-hour and daily palliative and hospice care units throughout the country. The study group consisted of 246 patients, average age – 59.5, the youngest respondent was 18 and the oldest – 90. The B. L. Block (NCN-36) test, prepared for people struggling with serious life-threatening diseases, was used. Comparison of the results with regard to the place of residence was based on the test Friedman ANOVA and Kendall compatibility factor. The general comparison of hope in individual dimensions and globally with the division into the degree of urbanization, was based on the Kruskal-Wallis test. Results. On the basis of factor analysis, 4 scales constructed from 8 items branch were distinguished. The following scales are used to study hope in the situational dimension – health, the telek-temporal dimension – goals, the spiritual dimension – religious beliefs and in the emotional-affective (affective) dimension – motivations. Conclusions. The strength of hope in people in the terminal phase of cancer, residing in villages, settlements, small, medium and large cities, was similar and depended on its magnitude. Of all the manifestations of hope, the greatest variation in results occurred in the subjects when they encountered serious problems and difficulties. The inhabitants of medium-sized cities were characterized by a higher hope at that time.

Research into the emotional experiences of language learners and their impact upon the language-learning process remains relatively undernourished within second language education. The research available focuses primarily on emotions experienced within the classroom, rather than in the daily lives of learners within various social contexts. This article contends that the focus placed upon emotions within the relatively structured environment of the formal classroom is problematic, particularly within an ESL environment, as the target language is more frequently experienced beyond the classroom. Drawing on data collected within Australia, the study explored the emotional experiences of a small cohort of eight university-level ESL learners experienced within their various social interactions beyond the classroom with a specific focus on the emotions of hope, enjoyment and frustration. Semi-structured interviews revealed that their emotional experiences beyond the classroom were particularly intense in comparison to emotional experiences within the formal language-learning classroom.

In this article, the author calls attention to a danger of proclaiming a depersonalised object of hope in a Christian funeral sermon, which he does not consider to be a legitimate Christian practice. The author reached this conclusion based on his analysis of one particular sermon from his research sample of 3x50 funeral sermons from three different church traditions (Lutheran church, evangelical churches, and Roman Catholic church). In the aforementioned funeral sermon, the object of hope was found to be articulated in a depersonalised form – the hope is not the eternity with the Lord, but simply: heaven. Christ is, in this particular sermon, merely a means by which the hearers may obtain their desired goal. Even though this funeral sermon was formulated using Christian terminology and was delivered by a Christian preacher, the author of this article does not regard its fundamental approach as Christian.

Opis:
Contrary to the widespread portrayal of Bloch’s philosophy as “mystical,” “eschatological,” “idealistic” etc., the essay shows that it is best interpreted through the framework of a Marxist philosophy of praxis. Similarly, to Labriola and Gramsci, Bloch develops his concept of materialism from Marx’s Theses on Feuerbach. His concepts of the “highest good” and of an “alliance technique” take up young Marx’s perspective of a reconciliation between humans and nature; his theory of anticipation and hope is centered on the development of collective capacities to act; even his “ontology of the not yet,” which is often criticized for its teleology, is actually based on the concept of “open possibilities” and can thus be interpreted in terms of the “weak teleological force of open possibilities.” However, from a praxis-philosophical perspective, Bloch’s philosophy is also in need of a rethinking that overcomes its essentialist presumptions and pluralizes its teleology.

For many women situated in post-socialist countries, the end of communism entailed the loss of state protection and social security. This often resulted in migration, underpinned by the hope for a better future and facilitated by trust in social networks. Trust and hope are often highlighted in the social-science literature as being indispensable means for navigating migration. What this perspective lacks, however, is an eye for the detrimental effects of the work of hope and for the beneficial effects of the work of distrust. For it can be hope that relates a subject to its exploiter and/or exploitative circumstances and it can be distrust that provides an escape route and increases agency. This article considers the illusive dimension of hope and the mobilising effect of distrust by referring to the experiences of Georgian migrant women in Thessaloniki (Greece). It shows how hope occasionally emanates out of distrust and how the combination of the two allows for new perspectives of action.

Opis:
The article presents Bruno Schulz’s and Heinrich Kleist considerations on matter. A comparative approach enables a new interpretation of Traktat o manekinach by Schulz and of some selected works by Kleist. The author ponders about the role of elpis, around which the human world is created. The Greek word: elpis, contains a whole parable about a hope which has stood up to nonexistence, darkness, a lack of form. A human being turns out to be forced to create, knead matter, because his life depends on it. By shaping things he gives reality to his own world that may disappear at any time. Both reflected upon authors, Schulz and Kleist, choose two different paths to contact with matter and they inscribe it – together with a human being – into a philosophical thought that goes far beyond simple the “living” – “lifeless” opposition.

Opis:
Tworzą oni intelektualne utopie, niemające potwierdzenia w naukowych badaniach psychologicznych i socjologicznych, choć są nośne w wielu kręgach kulturowych późnej nowoczesności. By wzmocnić to przekonanie Józefa Kozieleckiego, odwołamy się do badań Chantal Delsol francuskiej filozof politycznej. Badała ona zmiany kulturowe i polityczne w Europie w XX i XXI wieku. Wnioski zostały wypracowane w obszarze psychologii, socjologii i filozofii i wspierają przekonanie o wartości nadziei eschatologicznej.

Opis:
The main aim of the current study was to examine whether and how life satisfaction is related to propensity to forgive one’s transgressor. Additionally, it also explored the relationship between life satisfaction and other chosen psychological variables, such as optimism and gratitude. The study involved 338 persons between 16 and 83 years of age. For the measurement of psychological variables the following research tools were used: Satisfaction With Life Scale, Transgression- Related Interpersonal Motivations Inventory, Gratitude Questionnaire, and Learned Optimism Test. Among the study participants satisfaction with life was positively correlated with the conviction about a permanent and ubiquitous nature of positive events, optimism and gratitude. The study also observed a negative correlation between satisfaction with life, the motivation for revenge and avoidance motivation, and the perception of a permanent and ubiquitous nature of adverse events.

The paper deals with the impact of fear and hope on human activities. The author asserts that civilization tends to evoke fear while culture tends to induce hope. To cope with fear, people try either to escape it or to fight it. In contrast, hope helps them to solve their economic, educational and political problems. In conclusion, the author argues that we can learn to hope.

Opis:
The problem discussed in this article concerns the relationship between hope and action styles in adolescents. An action style is a way in which man perceives and responds to the outside world, and it may be aimed at securing oneself or interacting with the surroundings. The main aim of this analysis was to find out if, and to what degree, the level of hope is connected with action styles. The following hypotheses are proposed: H – 1. There is a relationship between hope and an action style. H- 2. Persons with different types of hope are characterised by different styles of action. H – 3. Persons with a high level of hope have a cooperation‑oriented style. H – 4. Persons with a low level of hope are often characterised by a style aimed at protecting themselves. 149 persons aged 17 – 18 participated in the study. The following methods were used: the Basic Hope Inventory (BHI-12) – compiled by Trzebiński and M. Zięba, the Hope for Success Questionnaire (KNS) – adaptation of C. R. Snyder’s questionnaire made by M. Łaguna, J. Trzebiński and M. Zięba, as well as the Action Styles Questionnaire by Z. Uchnast. The results obtained have allowed the researchers to form the opinion that hope helps individuals function better in the world. The way in which a person perceives the world and their own capabilities translates into the style of action which they choose. A person who is full of hope seeks self‑actualisation as well as cooperation with others.

Opis:
Religious life, understood as life resulting from the actions of the Holy Spirit, called „spiritual life”, should cover all aspects of human existence. This article has been written from this point of view, i.e. Catholic theology. It is difficult to speak of human development, about stages of his achieving maturity, as well as internally integrated personality when you do not take into account spiritual life. Acts of spiritual struggle should cover life in the periodof old age in its specific phases, or even appear as the culmination of a lifetime’s spiritual maturity. Specific forms of this spiritual experience – highlights are acts of confrontation in the senior age with the truth of impending death. They can take place on the level of specific values. It is an experience of freedom, hope and solitude. Acceptance of the truth concerning the final existential status and being fully aware while carrying these states testifies the ability for transcendence acts. In a natural, thus inborn way, living beings, especially humans, are focused on being andon development of life. Behavioral defense actions appear when facing any threats. And so the entire human culture, from means and development of disciplines, practice of science, all the way to different methods of creating politics of consent and cooperation with people, is focused on protecting against loss of life. On the grounds of medical science continual attempts are being made to overcome death ultimately. Unfortunately, the final defeat of thefact of death is still very far away. Becoming aware of the upcoming moment of death without panic and paralyzing fear is a higher level of worthy living of one’s humanity. A fairly common practice proposed by institutional care centers and assistance offered to people at senior age is the method of running away from the final confrontation and offering substitution procedures such as proposals of many forms of physical and mental activity. This offer includes continuation of professional work, traveling, and participation in studies, dancing clubs and all types of entertainment. There is no need to depreciate these proposals, butthey cannot be the only model of experiencing the period of old age. They cannot be selfdeception techniques. It is striking how much vita activa dominates over vita contemplativa in the general culture. There are too few proposals for the continuation of Christian religious development in the form of performing spiritual acts of transcendence. There is no program to learn the ability of „crossing any spiritual limitations” in the sense of hope for „being” in the future, despite the fact that old people are to the greatest extent engaged in church and religious communities. Nothing can substitute for proposals of spiritual maturity. Unfortunately, church orthopraxis in this respect is also limited and neglected.

Opis:
What is hope, does it belong to any cognitive structure of the mind or rather is it a kind of human feeling? The aim of this paper is to describe the theory of hope according to C.R. Snyder (1944–2006). This contemporary point of view has provided a lot of inspiration for many studies in a variety of different fields. Undoubtedly, the reality of hope has a big impact on educational performance, health condition, stress management and adaptive skills. It is not only a life-line in times of emergency or strife, when humans have to cross some difficulties in life, but it is also the daily force to live in the present. Hope according to Snyder is a three dimensional construct of the integrated cognitive process (willpower, waypower and goal direction). The applicability and power of this construct lies in its potential to change the general level of hope in individual lives and social groups, not just in the future, but in the present.

Europe and America are culturally interrelated areas. However, as they developed in their specific conditions both show differences among which European academic and American practical emerge as the most significant. Consequently, this influences the understanding and dealing with the real world and further challenges that have appeared on the both sides. Practical courageous approach stimulates the fight for a better world; however, ontological conservatisms protect human values and the very foundations of Western civilization. Although we are witnesses of incredible development and progress, the return to the traditional values and sacred is required since they guarantee to preserve and protect that what has been built for centuries. Both areas have something to offer in this mission.
