Even though the literature is abundant in numerous studies concerning syntactic and semantic principles of the EPC model development, one may still have certain doubts when linking such models with one another. This article primarily addresses the principles of creating EPC models, particularly those relevant from the perspective of linking them, identified based on the literature research. What follows the said analysis is a proposal of an alternative concept which may be adopted in this respect. The author has discussed the cases in which models must be subject to specific modifications in order for the linking solution proposed to be applicable.

Opis:
EPC models provide a subject widely discussed in the literature. The principles applicable, while creating them have been elaborated upon in numerous publications. An analysis of the existing principles indicates certain inconsistencies as far as the creation of hierarchical models is concerned. The problem of combining equivalent EPC models using process interfaces has been discussed in the author’s previous publication. This paper continues to elaborate upon the problems previously raised, pertaining to EPC model linking by means of hierarchical functions. It addresses principles significant from the perspective of creating and linking such models using the aforementioned approach. Specific questionable situations have been described and individual solutions proposed to enable avoiding them.

Legitimacy is one of the fundamental topics of the social and political sciences, as well as a valid issue in contemporary Western societies. Legitimacy is based on the existence of a common standard for evaluating social and political systems. If such a standard is absent, legitimacy is impossible by definition (Beetham 1991). The research question of this article is: to what extent is the level of a political system’s legitimacy explained by the effect of normative disorientation? Data from round 5 of the European Social Survey is analyzed by multilevel linear regression models in order to verify hypotheses about the strength and direction of the correlation between political legitimacy and normative disorientation. Analysis showed that normative disorientation is negatively correlated with the level of political legitimacy.

Log-linear models are widely used for qualitative data in multidimensional contingency tables. Hierarchical log-linear models are models that include all lower-order terms composed from variables contained in a higher-order model term. The starting point is a saturated model, then homogenous associations, conditional independence and complete independence. There are several statistics that help to choose the best model. The first is the likelihood ratio approach, next is AIC and BIC information criteria. In R software there is loglm() function in MASS library and glm in stats library. The first approach is presented in this paper

Opis:
Uzyskane wyniki potwierdzają wnioski z dotychczasowych badań, wskazując, iż poziom subiektywnie deklarowanej satysfakcji życiowej determinowany jest profilem społeczno-ekonomicznym i demograficznym jednostki. Wykorzystanie modelowania wielopoziomowego pozwoliło stwierdzić, iż poziom zaufania do ludzi i władz, rozpatrywany na poziomie regionalnym, oddziałuje silniej na zmiany poziomu zadowolenia z życia niż zaufanie deklarowane na poziomie mikro.
Multilevel models allow for the simultaneous analysis of process on the several levels of data aggregation. Therefore, the conclusions formulated on them can broaden the understanding of the nature of the relationship between micro and mezo (or macro) factors and the outcome variable. The aim of the study is to demonstrate the potential for multi-level modelling in the quality of life studies. In this study, we used publicly available micro data from three waves of the European Social Survey (2010, 2012, 2014). Our results confirm the conclusions of previous researches, indicating that the level of subjectively declared life satisfaction is determined by the socio-economic and demographic profile of the individual. An application of the multilevel models enables us to conclude that the level of trust in people and authorities at the regional level affects life satisfaction stronger than the trust expressed at the micro level.

Opis:
Underground mining is considered to be one of the most dangerous industries and mining remains the most hazardous occupation. Categorical analysis of accident records may present valuable information for preventing accidents. In this study, hierarchical loglinear analysis was applied to occupational injuries that occurred in an underground coal mine. The main factors affecting the accidents were defined as occupation, area, reason, accident time and part of body affected. By considering subfactors of the main factors, multiway contingency tables were prepared and, thus, the probabilities that might affect nonfatal injuries were investigated. At the end of the study, important accident risk factors and job groups with a high probability of being exposed to those risk factors were determined. This article presents important information on decreasing the number accidents in underground coal mines.

Opis:
Many data sets analyzed in human and social sciences have a multilevel or hierarchical structure. By hierarchy we mean that units of a certain level (also referred micro units) are grouped into, or nested within, higher level (or macro) units. In these cases, the units within a cluster tend to be more different than units from other clusters, i.e., they are correlated. Thus, unlike in the classical setting where there exists a single source of variation between observational units, the heterogeneity between clusters introduces an additional source of variation and complicates the analysis.
Collecting data on Educational Research often does not follow the principles of simple random sample, suspected by classical regression, but rather a sample by nested clusters. Selected to students and also the contextual units to which they belong such as classes, courses, schools, neighborhoods or regions, and so forth.
Using classical regression bias is produced in the typical error of measurement and an increased likelihood of committing errors of inference. The hierarchical linear or multilevel models are most suitable because they consider the hierarchical relationships and also provide estimates on the contextual variability of regression coefficients. In practice, often the data structures are not hierarchical, are more complex structures such as cross-classification (level 2 or macro). For example, students (level 1 or micro) to attend different courses at a school while in other schools there are students who attend the same courses. Two examples of application to academic achievement of students are presented. First, a model of cross-classification of level 2 is used. Second, a hierarchical model of two levels (students and schools) is presented, taking into account the different areas of science - scientific-humanistic courses and technology courses.

Opis:
The paper aims at recognizing the possibilities and perspectives of application of qualitativequantitative research methodology in the field of economics, with a special focus on production engineering management processes. The main goal of the research is to define the methods that would extend the research apparatus of economists and managers by tools that allow the inclusion of qualitative determinants into quantitative analysis. Such approach is justified by qualitative character of many determinants of economic occurrences. At the same time quantitative approach seems to be predominant in production engineering management, although methods of transposition of qualitative decision criteria can be found in literature. Nevertheless, international economics and management could profit from a mixed methodology, incorporating both types of determinants into joint decision-making models. The research methodology consists of literature review and own analysis of applicability of mixed qualitative-quantitative methods for managerial decision-making. The expected outcome of the research is to find which methods should be applied to include qualitativequantitative analysis into multicriteria decision-making models in the fields of economics, with a special regard to production engineering management.

Opis:
This work is focused on the automatic recognition of environmental noise sources that affect humans’ health and quality of life, namely industrial, aircraft, railway and road traffic. However, the recognition of the latter, which have the largest influence on citizens’ daily lives, is still an open issue. Therefore, although considering all the aforementioned noise sources, this paper especially focuses on improving the recognition of road noise events by taking advantage of the perceived noise differences along the road vehicle pass-by (which may be divided into different phases: approaching, passing and receding). To that effect, a hierarchical classification scheme that considers these phases independently has been implemented. The proposed classification scheme yields an averaged classification accuracy of 92.5%, which is, in absolute terms, 3% higher than the baseline (a traditional flat classification scheme without hierarchical structure). In particular, it outperforms the baseline in the classification of light and heavy vehicles, yielding a classification accuracy 7% and 4% higher, respectively. Finally, listening tests are performed to compare the system performance with human recognition ability. The results reveal that, although an expert human listener can achieve higher recognition accuracy than the proposed system, the latter outperforms the non-trained listener in 10% in average.

Opis:
The article presents the possibility to use the concept derived from the theory of graphs and methods of the social network analysis in bibliometrics and webometrics. Although the methods of the analysis of graph structures have been familiar to scholarship for a long time, it was the development of technologies which enable the application of these methods in practice in large collections of data that popularised them in many fields of science, and even of everyday life. Although the possibilities of the application of these methods in biblio- and webometrics were indicated by researchers even in the past century, there is a relatively small number of publications, especially released in this country, which put these methods to practice. Therefore in the present work the author presents the general concepts of the analyses and the models of aggregation of bibliometrical data, which may be adopted for the purposes of specific research. Although the considerations which are described are general and are independent of a specific analytical platform, the final part of the article presents an example of the Gephi application, which enables the implementation of the concepts in question.
