Úwù is one of the many endangered languages in Nigeria {(Abiodun (2004, 2007); Choon (2012)}. The language is spoken by an estimated population of about 3000 people in a small community known as Àyèré in Ìjùmú Local Government Area (LGA) of Kogi State, Crozier and Blench (1992). There is an ongoing controversy over the status of the language as to whether it is a dialect of Yorùbá or a distinct language. This is due to the lexical and structural similarities between the two linguistic codes. This paper describes the vowel harmony system of Úwù with a view to showing its level of relatedness to Yoruba, and by implication documents this aspect of the language for posterity. Harmonic constraint in Úwù is based on tongue root positions where ATR mid-vowels do not interact with RTR mid-vowels in a phonological word. Harmonic principle in Úwù is most reflected in words of VCV and CVCV structures. The analysis of selected data is premised on the Autosegmental Theory of Phonology {see (Hulst and Smith 1985); (Goldsmith 1990)}. The study reveals that Úwù operates a seven vowel system that manifests a partial harmony system, comprising of seven oral and five nasal vowels. Apart from this, the language operates a root-controlled assimilation process, and the direction of harmonic spread in Úwù is leftward, since affixes in Úwù are mainly prefixes. Although, there are few instances that suggest that neutral vowels are both opaque and transparent in Úwù, the paper concludes that neutral vowels are actually opaque in the language.

Celem niniejszego artykułu jest rozwiązanie odwrotnego zagadnienia przewodnictwa ciepła z warunkiem brzegowym trzeciego rodza- ju przy użyciu niedawno zaproponowanego algorytmu „Harmony Search” (poszukiwania harmonii). Zastosowany algorytm należy do grupy algoryt- mów optymalizacyjnych inspirowanych zachowaniami bądź procesami za- chodzącymi w rzeczywistym świecie, w szczególności imituje proces poszu- kiwania harmonii dźwięków podczas improwizacji jazzowej.

Desirable sound of music has a wide range of psychological and physiological beneficial health effect among diverse population in different conditions. Research for example showed when music is selected according to its motivational qualities, the positive impact on performance (e.g., increased endurance) and psychological states (e.g., enhanced affect) are even greater, which has important implications for exercise adherence in male and female participants. On the other hand, healing sounds have always been considered in the past an important aid in medical practice, and nowadays, medicine has confirmed the efficacy of music therapy in clinical setting and in aging population. It seems healing harmony as a source of inspiration in science is an effective approach to improve quality of life in different individuals. Hence, music intervention as an easily, inexpensive, noninvasive approach to improve public health is notably recommended

This article is an attempt to establish the time-frame and relative chronology of the evolution of consonant harmony in north-western Karaim. The sample material used for the present article comes from a Karaim handwritten Torah translation dating back to 1720 (the oldest analysed Western Karaim Bible translation), copied in Kukizów by Simcha ben Chananiel and written in the Karaim semi-cursive variant of the Hebrew script. Additionally, in the present article an attempt is made to describe step by step how the harmony shift operated.

In this article an early Bible translation into north-western Karaim is described. The manuscript, written in Hebrew script (in its Karaim semi-cursive variant), dates back to 1720, which makes it the oldest western Karaim Bible translation to be hitherto critically analysed. The manuscript was copied in Kukizów by Simcha ben Chananiel (died in the 1720s). The language of the manuscript reveals archaic features, among others, consonant harmony in the process of emerging.

This paper aims to introduce Ịzọn to the world audience. We note the status of Ịzọn as a “main” language, the geographical location of the Ịzọn people in the Niger Delta of Nigeria, the occupations of the Ịzọn, the consonants, vowels, vowel harmony and nasalized vowels in Ịzọn. We observe that in Ịzọn a vowel becomes nasalized when it occurs in the environment of a nasal; that a high tone marked ( ́), and a low tone marked (`) perform both lexical and grammatical functions in Ịzọn; that Ịzọn has S-O-V word order; that each word category is written separately; that the negative gha is marked on the verb; and that borrowed words, names of places and languages are nativised. We throw some light on the Ịzọn numerical system, namely: the traditional cardinal numbers such as óyí(10), sí (20), andẹ́/ọndẹ́(400) and andẹ́rịmandẹ́/ọndẹ́rịmọndẹ́ (160,000); the modern standardized numbers such as 100 ọdọ́zọ́, 1000 ọgị́zị́, 1,000,000 ịpámụ́ and 1,000,000,000,000 ẹndẹ́rị́ and the ordinal numbers, bụlọụ 1st and mamụ karamọ2nd. Next we look at the kinship, persons, religious, colour, body parts, cooking, occupational and other terminology in the lexicon of Ịzọn. Finally we observe some salient aspects of Ịzọn culture such as their dressing, religion, food, festivals, dances, traditions, and customs.

An article presents environmental issues of spirituality in their relationship to God, man and the environment on the basis of the encyclical of Pope Francis Laudato Si'. The Pope took up the current and complicated issue, analysis of which is exposed to various forms of reductionism or ideologies. His view of ecological spirituality is based on the foundation of God the Creator, who gave the world the natural order and also created and shaped the hierarchy of beings. This premise protects against reductionist looking at the man and at the same time—before usurp his absolute power. On this foundation, the Holy Father could develop postulate of the contemplative perception of the world in which he discovers the creatures as objects to use, but above all he sees in them a gift and value given to the man. Such a deep vision can rediscover anew God as Creator and Father for the love of establishing the human world into existence. Thanks to the origin of coming from one Father, Christian sees in others, especially in the weakest and defenceless a brother with whom he has ties of solidarity and love. Finally, the world is seen not as a place of exploitation and prey, but as a mystery that leads to God and God is the full explanation of it. The deeper the mind enlightened by faith contemplates the world, the more he sees beauty and infinity of God. And at the same time more closely connects with God, the more the world reveals to him its beauty and close relationship with the Creator.

Confucianism is a worldview that has shaped Chinese civilization and its various forms of statehood for over two thousand years. With the establishment of the People's Republic of China in 1949, its influence on the shaping of ideology and social life was interrupted for several decades. The new direction of the state initiated at the end of the 1970s resulted in the gradual restoration of selected ideas of Confucianism, which, along with Marxism and the strategy of entering globalization, shape the international identity of the Middle Kingdom. While Marxism remains the official ideology, one should focus on introducing elements of Chinese culture, which complements it in recognizing contemporary realities and formulating directions for changes in the state. The aim of the article is to show the influence of Confucianism on the contemporary Chinese narrative manifested in two dimensions: internal affairs, i.e. the development of the state and society, and external issues, international politics.

This paper aims at planning an optimal point to point path for a flexible manipulator under large deformation. For this purpose, the researchers use a direct method and meta-heuristic optimization process. In this paper, the maximum load carried by the manipulator and the minimum transmission time are taken as objective functions of the optimization process to get optimal path profiles. Kinematic constraints, the maximum velocity and acceleration, the dynamic constraint of the maximum torque applied to the arms and also the constraint of final point accuracy are discussed. For the optimization process, the Harmony Search (HS) method is used. To evaluate the effectiveness of the approach proposed, simulation studies are reviewed by considering a two-link flexible manipulator with the fixed base. The findings indicate that the proposed method is in power of dealing with nonlinear dynamics of the system. Furthermore, the results obtained by rigid, small and large deformation models are compared with each other.

At a time when China is assuming an increasingly influential role in world geostrategy, especially through economic and diplomatic power, there is still some ignorance about Chinese culture (Jullien, 2010). The aim of this article is to contribute to the understanding of the values of Chinese culture by reviewing the concepts of culture and communication in Chinese society based on the cultural dimensions advocated by Hofstede and on Miike’s “Asiacentric” perspectives. Based on the interpretation of these concepts, the present study argues that the development of communicative and intercultural competences is crucial not only to approach Chinese culture without generalizations or stereotyped insights but also for the benefit of dialogue between cultures and nations, so imperative these days.
Numa época em que a China assume um papel cada vez mais influente na geoestratégia mundial, sobretudo através do poderio económico e diplomático, persiste ainda algum desconhecimento sobre a cultura chinesa (Jullien, 2010). O objetivo deste artigo é contribuir para a compreensão dos valores da cultura chinesa analisando os conceitos de cultura e de comunicação na sociedade chinesa à luz das dimensões culturais preconizadas por Hofstede e das perspectivas “asiacêntricas” defendidas por Miike. Com base na interpertação destes conceitos, o presente estudo defende que o desenvolvimento de competências comunicativas e interculturais se apresenta como um meio indispensável não só para conhecer a cultura chinesa sem uma abordagem apriorística ou estereotipada mas também para o sucesso do diálogo entre culturas e povos, tão premente nos dias que correm.

A new paradigm in theology, termed evolutionary theology, supports the understanding of ecology as the proper ordering of the relations between living organisms and their environment. It is argued that evolutionary theology yields a unique conceptual framework in which the human species share a common history with the entire Universe and respecting nature’s integrity means securing a common destiny to everything that exists. This is a powerful motivation for adopting a balanced ecological attitude aimed at respecting nature’s inherent integrity. Furthermore, proposing theological arguments to substantiate ecological claims will help neutralize the objections that religion as such promotes anti-ecological attitudes. Such objections become more pressing when religion focuses exclusively on the afterlife in the immaterial and eternal world to come, and neglects the well-being of the material and temporal Universe.

The present paper is an attempt of a synthesis of and comment on the consonance of both Testaments. There are two trends of exegesis in this matter: one is closely connected with the biblical paralelisms method, based on the ,style anthologique’ or, procedimiento imitativo’. This method has proved very useful in interpretation of more difficult texts of the New Testament, and especially so in biblical theology. The other trend could be called that of the literary consonance of both Testaments: with this method we first study literary structures of a Gospel as a whole and its models in the Old Testament, and then concrete examples of various literary forms in the Gospels, in the light of the Old Testament, e. g. Annuciation, the Gospel of Infancy. This method of investigation has on one hand stressed the remarkable unity and harmony of both Testaments, but, as it is based on evidence strictly internal and often subjective, it has weakened the historical valour of certain episodes of the Gospel of Infancy (Luc 1— 2 i Mat 1—2) on the other. From the point of view of Catholic hermeneutics its great lack is its neglect to confront its findings with inerrancy and inspiration of the Bible, as well as its complete disregard of the testimony of the Tradition of the Church.

Klasyczna baśń braci Grimm jest opowieścią o zwierzętach; nie o problemach ludzi, ale o zwierzętach samych. Osioł, pies, kot i kogut nie są tu potraktowane jako figury ludzi, ludzkie typy i reprezentacje, lecz jako samodzielne podmioty. Antropomorfizacja zaś nie służy ukazaniu i oświetleniu spraw czysto „ludzkich”, lecz pomaga czytelnikowi i słuchaczowi empatycznie odnieść się do sytuacji braci mniejszych. Muzyka, której uprawiania podejmują się zwierzęta, jest katalizatorem ich wyzwolenia. Stare i przeznaczone na rzeź uciekają nie tylko do Bremy, ale i w przestrzeń ocalającej sztuki. Solidarność i harmonia, zgoda i współpraca – oto co reprezentuje kwartet zwierzęcych, amatorskich muzyków. Uczą one, jak być dobrym dla pragmatycznych i często nieczułych ludzi.
The classic Brother Grimm fairy tale is a story about animals – not human issues, but the animals themselves. A donkey, a dog, a cat and a rooster do not stand for humans or human types, but they are independent subjects. Their anthropomorphic treatment does not serve to illuminate purely “human” issues, but rather allows the leader or listener to find empathy towards our lesser brothers. The music the animals play is a catalyst for their liberation. The old and slaughterhouse-bound escape not only to the town of Bremen, but into the saving realm of art. Solidarity and harmony, agreement and collaboration – that is what the amateur animal musical quartet represents, and the lesson they impart to, often pragmatic and uncaring humans, is how to be good.

W artykule zostały omówione klasyczne teksty poświęcone malarstwa napisane przez Gu Kaizhi 顧愷之, Zong Binga 宗炳, Wang Weia 王 i Xie He 谢赫, które podążają w kierunku wyznaczonym przez chińską estetykę. Sporo pojęć i terminów ich teorii sztuki przyjęło się i na trwałe weszło do kanonu chińskiej estetyki. Odrzucono wszelkiego rodzaju odstępstwa od praw przyrody i ludzkiego życia. Artysta powinien odtwarzać nie kształt zewnętrzny, lecz istoty wewnętrznej. Malarz powinien raczej sugerować niż opisywać. Stworzenie czystej pustki jest dużo bardziej pożądane niż ukazanie detali obiektów.
The article presents small volume of art theories beginning with the period when the independent landscape painting was scarcely known and concluding with the age when it became a predominant theme. The theory of “music of the spheres” (musicamundana) introduced by Boethius in his treaty De institutione musica is an original contribution in development of mediaeval theory of music. However, it’s roots trace back to the Greek antiquity. When considering the sources of medieval theory of musicamundana, one shall underline three most important sources: (1) mythology with its complex cosmogony (esp. by Homer and Hesiod), (2) early cosmology by pre-Socratic philosophers (incl. Anaximander, Heraclit), (3) Pythagorean school. Despite of the fact that idea of the music of the spheres – as presented by the Pythagoreans – was criticized by Aristotle in his De caelo, it became one of the most infl uential cosmological concept. One of the most important periods – from the point of view of the reception of discussed theory – is the twelfth century. It is often called the aetas Boethiana as it is distinguished by an increased interest in the works of Boethius, with special emphasis on his theological writings and Consolatio, which was very popular at the time. The reason behind this phenomenon was a growing specialization of issues relating to the theory of music, which fi nally led to its independence from the other areas of knowledge; yet this is not the only reason why the subject of the harmony of the spheres was again widely discussed in philosophical circles. An essential factor was the development of Neo-platonic philosophical schools, such as the famous School of Chartres. The interest in natural sciences in the School of Chartres and later in the Oxford School made the scientists of the time focus on the works of authors whose ideas were essential to the concept of the harmony of the spheres, among them such philosophers as Calcidius, Macrobius and Boethius

The aim of this paper is to investigate the fi rms’ incentives to engage in process R&D under vertical industrial setting, when the raising rivals’ cost effect is present. We show that R&D investment of the downstream duopoly fi rm raises the rival’s marginal costs of production. The downstream R&D behavior can give rise to the symmetric investment games, i.e., the prisoner’s dilemma, the deadlock game and the harmony game, between downstream competitors. If the costs of the R&D investments made by the downstream fi rms are large enough, the downstream fi rms can participate in the harmony game, which results in the investment hold-up or the creation of the R&D-avoiding cartel. For more R&D-effi cient downstream fi rms, the downstream investment game can end up in the prisoner’s dilemma or the deadlock game. In the prisoner’s dilemma, both downstream fi rms invest in R&D, but such a behavior is not Pareto optimal. In the prisoner’s dilemma, greed and fear make fi rms invest in R&D. In the deadlock game, both downstream fi rms invest in R&D, and such a behavior is Pareto optimal. The R&D investments are not induced by any social tension (greed or fear).
Celem artykułu jest zbadanie bodźców przedsiębiorstw do angażowania się w procesowe badania i rozwój w ramach przemysłowej struktury pionowej (dostawca-odbiorca), gdy obecny jest efekt podniesienia kosztu rywali. W pracy pokazano, że inwestycje badawczo-rozwojowe odbiorcy działającego na rynku duopolu podnoszą koszty krańcowe produkcji konkurenta. Zachowanie odbiorców w zakresie inwestycji badawczo-rozwojowych prowadzi do powstania symetrycznych gier, tj. dylematu więźnia, zakleszczenia i harmonii, pomiędzy konkurującymi odbiorcami. Jeśli koszty inwestycji badawczo-rozwojowych są wystarczająco wysokie, odbiorcy uczestniczą w grze „harmonia”, która skutkuje powstrzymaniem się od inwestycji lub powstaniem kartelu unikającego badań i rozwoju. Dla przedsiębiorstw efektywniejszych w zakresie badań i rozwoju interakcja pomiędzy odbiorcami może przyjąć postać dylematu więźnia lub zakleszczenia. W dylemacie więźnia obaj odbiorcy inwestują w badania i rozwój, ale takie zachowanie nie jest Pareto optymalne. W dylemacie więźnia dwa napięcia społecznego: chciwość oraz strach sprawiają, że przedsiębiorstwa inwestują w badania i rozwój. W przypadku zakleszczenia obaj odbiorcy inwestują w badania i rozwój, a takie zachowanie jest Pareto optymalne. Jednakże inwestycje badawczo-rozwojowe nie są motywowane w tym przypadku napięciem społecznym (chciwością lub strachem).

Over the centuries, the residential development, regardless of cubature or location stood out in the landscape through form, color or composition layout. Works of construction or architecture unique for the selected area, in which they became were its determinant, identifier. Becoming a part of the cultural landscape the building development affects the visual perception and provides the identity of the place. The cited in the article the Troad region also has a clear differentiator, which is a local rock material. With it, not only the space transformed by man but also the natural landscape are characterized by the local coloring, which is identified with a specific location.

Some of them have tried to connect palatality and velarity of Slavic consonants with the influence of Turkic consonant palatalization or velarization dependent on vowel harmony. Na podstawie obserwacji terenowych, analizy materiałów archiwalnych i kwerendy literatury dokonano próby oceny harmonii krajobrazu wsi tradycyjnej Pogórzy Karpackich. Wskazano na zróżnicowanie przestrzenne morfologicznych typów wsi. Stwierdzono, że w ostatnim półwieczu świadomie, na dużą skalę, w szybkim tempie niszczona jest istniejąca tu jeszcze do niedawna, harmonia krajobrazu polegająca m.in. na dopasowaniu budownictwa i układu przestrzennego zabudowy wsi do lokalnych warunków przyrodniczych. Współcześnie z krajobrazu wiejskiego ginie ład przestrzenny i estetyczny. Dzieje się to na skutek zmian układu przestrzennego wsi i rozproszenia zabudowy mieszkalnej, zmiany funkcji części wsi tego regionu z wsi rolniczej na podmiejską, odejścia od architektury zastanej na rzecz architektury przypadkowej zarówno w formie jak i w proporcji brył budynków.
On base of local observation, analyses of archival materials and literature it performsestimate of harmony in landscape of village in the traditional Carpathian Foothills. What has been indicated is spatial disparity of morphological type of villages, which is connected with history of people in the area and natural conditions. It has been ascertained, that in last half-century, on big scale, it is being destroyed consciously and in fast rate the harmony of landscape on adjusting construction for local natural conditions match of building of spatial dimension villages. Harmonious landscape of agricultural village in traditional Carpathian Foothills assured inhabitants the safeties and the feeling of being “their own”. Nowadays the spatial order disappears from country landscape and it becomes mismatching and unaesthetic. It happens as a result of changes in spatial match of villages and dispersions of habitable buildings, changes in functions from agricultural village to suburban village in this region, departures from architecture in favor of accidental architecture as well as in proportion of lump of building. What is foreign culturally is new architectonic details and the usage of coloring in the building constructions.

Artykuł poświęcony jest zagadnieniu harmonii oraz jej wagi w komunikacji o chińskim charakterze. Celem głównym, prócz powyższego, jest uwrażliwienie Europejczyków i Chińczyków na różnice w postrzeganiu istoty harmonii. Autorka poprzez analizę przykładów, będących efektem wywiadów przeprowadzonych wśród obcokrajowców zatrudnionych w Chińskiej Republice Ludowej w 2009 i 2017 r., oraz literatury przedmiotu przybliża kategorię harmonii z punktu widzenia mieszkańców Polski/Europy oraz obywateli ChRL. Wymienione w artykule przykłady ukazują m.in., iż nie każdy mieszkaniec ChRL zachowuje się pro-harmonijnie, w polskim/europejskim tego słowa znaczeniu, na co wpływ ma odmienne definiowanie pojęcia harmonii i harmonijnych relacji.
This article describes the challenges and importance of harmony in Chinese communication. The main purpose, in addition to the above mentioned, is to raise awareness in European and Chinese society of the differences in the perception of the nature of harmony. Based on the interviews performed with foreigners living in China in 2009 and 2017, and the literature review, the author approaches the different sides of harmony from the point of view of Poles/ Europeans and citizens of the People's Republic of China. The mentioned examples show, among others, that not every citizen of the PRC behaves pro-harmoniously in the Polish/ European sense, what is influenced with the different definition of the concept of harmony and harmonious relations.

This article is a broad and detailed discussion of the complex harmonic issues of Karol Szy- manowski’s Mazurkas Op. 50. It outlines the current state of research on the harmony of the Mazurkas, beginning with the work by Adolf Chybiński (1920s), through the monograph by Stefania Łobaczewska (1950s) (now obsolete), studies by Józef M. Chomiński, articles by Zofia Helman, Antoni Poszowski, and Piotr Dahlig, the monograph of the twentieth century Polish mazurka by Anna Nowak, the great biography of Szymanowski written by Teresa Chylińska and, above all, the classic works by Tadeusz Andrzej Zielinski, fundamental to the issue of the mazurka harmony, the only ones so attentive and so focussed on the detail, and yet formulating such an appropriate and clear conceptual apparatus. The results of Zieliński’s research and analyses make an obvious starting point for contemporary music theorists interested in the issue of harmony throughout the twentieth century. Capturing and naming the entire complex of phenomena encountered in the Mazurkas Op. 50 is not easy. Mazurkas Op. 50 are characterized by a vast variety of har- monic phenomena, innovative treatment of the piano texture and the use of various sound effects stylising the folk music of the Polish Highlands. Moreover, the ways in which the music material is organised often blend with one another or coexist in the course of the piece within the intersect- ing old and new rules (harmonic eclecticism). The article examines a broad spectrum of har- monic phenomena, proposed by Zielinski, occurring in Opus 50. These are: relics of function harmony system, the interaction of the so-called non-function thirds harmony and the ‘sound spot’ technique, tinting chords with dissonances, using multi-tonal saturated chords, percussive use of half-step intervals, using the fourth structures, emancipation of dissonant intervals, various types of ostinato and burdon formulas, repeated chord complexes, the bimodal phenomena, the double- and multilayer harmonic complexes, the parallel intervals and chords, the bitonal co-occurrences of bass fifths and triads. The article gives examples of all the phenomena, but only the selected ones were fully discussed, focusing on other issues: the types of dual melodic lines, formula of half- and whole-step movement between chords, monophonic fragments or the whole tone scale order. The horizontal scale orders were not discussed, unless it was necessary for the understanding of the harmonic issues in question.

The main problem of electrical distribution systems is the reactive power flow. It causes reduction of active power transmission, diminishes power losses, and augments the drop voltage. In this research we described an efficiency approach FLC-HSO to solve the optimal power flow (OPF) combinatorial problem. The proposed approach employ tow algorithms, Fuzzy logic controller (FLC) algorithm for nodal detection and harmony search optimization (HSO) algorithm for optimal seizing capacitor of OPF combinatorial problem control variables. HSO method is more proficient in improving combinatory problem. The proposed approach has been examined and tested on the standard IEEE 57-bus test system with different objectives that reflect cost function minimization, voltage profile improvement, and voltage stability enhancement. The proposed approach results have been compared to those that reported in the literature recently. The results are promising and show the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed approach.
