High-Temperature Proton-Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (HT-PEMFCs) are a candidate for electrical energy supply devices in more and more applications. Most notably in the aeronautic industry. Before any use, an HT-PEMFC is preheated and after that supplied with its active gases. Only at this state, the diagnostics can be performed. A method of testing not requiring a complete start-up would be beneficial for many reasons. This article describes an extended version of the charging and discharging diagnostic method of HT-PEMFCs with no active gases. This extended approach is named “Test Without Active Gases” (TWAG). This paper presents original research on the influence of nitrogen temperature and pressure on the HT-PEMFC response to charging and discharging. A lumped-element model of an HT-PEMFC is also presented. A numerical result of using this model to recreate an experimentally obtained curve is also presented.

In the present study, regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene-2,5-diyl) (P3HT) coated hydroxylated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT-OH) nanocomposites were prepared over different reaction times of non-covalent functionalization. The reaction time was set as 24, 48, 72, 96, and 120 hours. The structure and optical characteristics of nanocomposites were analyzed using Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) and ultraviolet-visible (UV-Vis) spectroscopy, respectively. Reaction time affected prepared nanocomposites by decreasing the intensity of the P3HT/MWCNT-OH peaks gradually with increasing of the reaction time. Comparing with the pure P3HT and MWCNT-OH, the calculated energy band gap and the Urbach energy of the nanocomposites were reduced proportionally as the reaction time reached 120 hours and achieved 2.60 and 0.329 eV, respectively.
Syntetyzowano hydroksylowane wielościenne nanorurki węglowe (MWCNT-OH) pokryte stereoregularnym poli(3-heksylotiofen-2,5-diylu) (P3HT) oraz zbadano wpływ czasu reakcji niekowalencyjnej funkcjonalizacji na strukturę i właściwości optyczne otrzymanego nanokompozytu. Czas reakcji wynosił 24, 48, 72, 96 i 120 godzin. W badaniach wykorzystano spektroskopię w podczerwieni z transformacją Fouriera (FTIR) oraz ultrafioletową UV-Vis. Wraz ze wzrostem czasu reakcji następowało stopniowe zmniejszenie intensywności pików P3HT/MWCNT-OH. W porównaniu z P3HT i MWCNT-OH obliczona przerwa energetyczna i energia Urbacha zmniejszały się wraz z wydłużeniem czasu reakcji i osiągnęły odpowiednio 2,60 i 0,329 eV przy czasie reakcji 120 godzin.

The popularity of asynchronous machines, particularly squirrel cage machines, stems from their inexpensive production costs, resilience, and low maintenance requirements. Unfortunately, potential flaws in these devices might have a negative impact on the facility's profitability and service quality. As a result, diagnostic tools for detecting flaws in these types of devices must be developed. Asynchronous machine problems can be diagnosed using a variety of methods. Signal processing techniques based on extracting information from characteristic quantities of electrical machine operation can provide highly useful information about flaws. The purpose of this research is to develop efficient algorithms based on numerous signal processing approaches for correctly detecting asynchronous cage machine rotor defects (rotor bar ruptures).

Research background: While the Sectoral Innovation System (SSI) anticipates technology-related similarities in innovation patterns in the same sectors across countries, the distance to the frontier suggests that there are important differences with respect to the level of national technological development. Most contemporary analyses of sectoral innovation systems are focused on well-developed economies. In contrast, the evidence from developing countries including new EU members are scared and lack dynamics. Purpose of the article: The purpose of this paper is to identify and compare product and process innovation patterns in Polish low and high technology systems. The main assumption is that divergence and convergence in innovation patterns of low- and medium-low technology (LMT) and high technology (HT) systems evolve over time and are strongly influenced by the characteristics of firms, their linkages with other system participants, existing demand, and institutional conditions. Methods: According to the third edition of the Oslo Manual (OECD, 2005), we employ a harmonized questionnaire and methodology to collect unique micro data on innovation.  The survey concerns 5252 firms including 873 firms from HT sector. The scope of the research relates to product and process innovation at least new to the firm. Findings & value added: Our results show that although the intensity of product and process innovation is higher in HT system, both business support institutions and public financial instruments better support firms in LMT sectors. On the other hand, existing demand and market structure favor the emergence of new innovations at the firm level (imitations), but with more emphasis on LMT. The key source of innovation is suppliers, with foreign suppliers in HT and national ones in LMT. In contrast to leading economies, LMT plays a key role in long term economic growth in Poland.

This document presents the results of numerical analyses of the SAW gas sensor in the steady state. The effect of SAW velocity changes depending on how the surface electrical conductivity of the sensing layer is predicted. The conductivity of roughness sensing layer above the piezoelectric waveguide depends on the profile of the diffused gas molecule concentration inside the layer. Numerical results for the gas DMMP (CAS Number 756-79-6) for layer (RR)-P3HT in the steady state are shown. The main aim of the investigations was to study the thin film interaction with target gases in the SAW sensor configuration based on diffusion equation for polymers. Numerical results for profile concentration in steady state are shown. The results of numerical acoustoelectric analysis (NAA) allow to select the sensor design conditions, including the morphology of the sensor layer, its thickness, operating temperature and layer type. The numerical results based on the code written in Python, are described and analyzed. The theoretical results were verified and confirmed experimentally.

Colorectal cancer has a high incidence rate with significant mortality and morbidity. The 15-lipoxygenase-1 (15-LOX-1) is a crucial enzyme as well as a tumor suppressor, especially in colon cancer. Bee venom, by the induction of apoptosis, is a promising new anti-cancer agent. Thus, the effects of bee venom on the expression of 15-LOX-1 m-RNA and its activities in the HT-29 cell line have been investigated in the current study. Human HT-29 colon cancer cells were treated with increasing concentrations of bee venom (1.87-30 µg/mL), and cisplatin (5 µg/mL) as the positive control for 24- and 48-hours. Then, cell viability and apoptosis were measured using the MMT assay and flow cytometry, respectively. Enzyme activity and expression was assayed using the kinetic method and real-time PCR, respectively. The results showed that the main content of bee venom was melittin with a retention time of 60 minutes. The IC50 values of bee venom at 24- and 48-hours were 6.01 µg/mL and 4.44 µg/mL, respectively. Expression of 15-LOX-1 in cancer cells treated with bee venom increased (p < 0.0005), as well as the activity of the enzyme in the presence of bee venom (p < 0.01). The current study revealed the apoptotic and cytotoxic effects of bee venom against the human colon cancer HT-29 cell line that was not seen in fibroblast cells. Findings suggest that bee venom may have therapeutic effects against the HT-29 colon cancer cell through the induction of the15-LOX-1 pathway. However, further studies are needed in this regard.

The aim of the study was to assess the frequency of occurrence and concentrations of mycotoxins in grass silages depending on meadow location, term of harvest and type of fertilizer used. The research material consisted of 24 grass silage samples collected in 2013 from three farms located in: Falenty, Kodeń and Kąty. The following mycotoxins were evaluated: deoxynivalenol (DON), nivalenol (NIV), T2 and HT2 toxin, zearalenone (ZEA) and roquefortine C (ROQ C). 22 samples were positive for at least one mycotoxin. The most frequently detected toxins were NIV (14 samples contaminated), DON and ZEA (10 samples). The concentration of mycotoxins in silage samples coming from individual farms varied and significant differences between farms were obtained only in the case of T2 toxin and ZEA. Silage made out of sward from the third cut was more likely to be contaminated, than silage made out of sward from the first cut. The type of fertilizer had no significant impact on mycotoxin concentrations except for NIV and HT2 toxin.
Celem pracy była ocena częstotliwości występowania i zawartości mykotoksyn w kiszonce z runi łąkowej w zależności od lokalizacji gospodarstwa, terminu zbioru runi łąkowej oraz rodzaju nawożenia stosowanego do nawożenia łąki. Materiał badawczy stanowiły 24 próbki sianokiszonki pobrane w 2013 r. w trzech gospodarstwach: w Falentach, Kodniu i Kątach. Oceniono zawartość następujących mykotoksyn i toksyn: deoksyniwalenolu (DON), niwalenolu (NIV), toksyn T2 i HT2, zearalenonu (ZEA) i roquefortyny C (ROQ C). 22 próbki były skażone co najmniej jedną mykotoksyną. Najczęściej wykrywanymi toksynami były NIV (14 próbek) DON i ZEA (po 10 próbek). Zawartość poszczególnych mykotoksyn w próbkach kiszonki pochodzących z poszczególnych gospodarstw była bardzo zróżnicowana, ale istotne różnice między gospodarstwami stwierdzono tylko w przypadku dwóch mykotoksyn: toksyny T-2 i ZEA. Kiszonki sporządzone z runi łąkowej zebranej w trzecim pokosie zwykle były bardziej zanieczyszczone niż kiszonki z pierwszego pokosu. Rodzaj nawożenia nie miał istotnego wpływu na poziom skażenia mykotoksynami, z wyjątkiem toksyn NIV i HT2

A novel arylsulfonamide derivative of aryloxy(propyl)piperidine PZ-1433, has been proved to possess a preclinical activity profile appropriate for the treatment of depression and memory impairments. In the present study its pharmacological activity toward anxiety symptoms as well as its anxiolytic properties have been examined in mouse and rat models. PZ-1433 significantly increased the number of punished crossings and decreased the number of buried marbles in two tests conducted in mice. Moreover, PZ-1433 evoked anxiolytic-like activity in “conditional” anxiety paradigm in rats, meaningly increasing the number of accepted shocks in the Vogel conflict drinking test. However, it did not produce a significant anxiolytic-like effect in “unconditional” anxiety model, i.e. the elevated plus-maze test. From these results, it is likely that direct antagonism toward serotonin 5-HT7 receptors may be involved in the anxiolytic action of PZ-1433. However, in vitro detected inhibition of serotonin transporter evoked by PZ-1433, might also contribute to this effect.

Bulk heterojunction solar cells were investigated using poly(3-hexylthiophene) (P₃HT):[6,6]-phenyl-C₆₁ butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) with a nickel oxide (NiO) anode buffer layer between the photoactive layer and an indium tin oxide (ITO) anode layer. The NiO anode buffer layer was deposited using radio frequency magnetron sputtering on an ITO electrode layer for effective hole transport and electron blocking. The NiO film is a p-type semiconductor with resistivity of 0.35 Ω cm. The power conversion efficiency was improved substantially by the NiO anode buffer layer compared to a solar cell with an anode buffer layer made from poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT):poly(styrene sulfonate) (PSS). The solar cell with a 10 nm thick NiO anode buffer layer had a power conversion efficiency of 4.71%. These results are explained by the improved charge transport across the interface between the active layer and ITO electrode.

Opis:
A new statistical method to study repair mechanism of individual cells exposed to ionizing radiation is presented. The method is based on deviations from the Poisson distribution of observed chromosome aberrations and allows to determine the efficiency of repair mechanisms of individual cells. On basis of the dose-effect curves and the chi-square analysis, the ratio between the variance and the mean value of the observed aberration distribution could be calculated and related to the efficiency of the cellular repair mechanisms. The method has been tested on human lymphocytes and CHO-K1 cells exposed to different radiation species. In the case of high-linear energy transfer ion irradiation a correction due to Neyman A statistics has been introduced.

A method for creating linearly polarized positrons and ortho-positronium (o-Ps) atoms with the J-PET detector is presented. The unique geometry and properties of the J-PET tomography enable one to design a positron source such that the quantization axis for the estimation of the linear polarization of produced o-Ps can be determined on the event by event basis in a direction of the positron motion. We intend to use ²²Na or other β⁺ decay isotopes as a source of polarized positrons. Due to the parity violation in the beta decay, the emitted positrons are longitudinally polarized. The choice of the quantization axis is based on the known position of the positron emitter and the reconstructed position of the positronium annihilation. We show that the J-PET tomography is equipped with all needed components.

Two principal elements play a role in a wireless power beaming system: a high power radiation source as the transmitter and a rectifying antenna (rectenna) as an RF to DC converter at the receiving site. A millimeter wave power transmission is analyzed using transmission system and a W-band rectenna based on a low-barrier Schottky diode. A quasi-optical approach is presented here, using free-space Gaussian propagation and optical ABCD matrices for lenses. Experiments are made to estimate the optimal load resistance and power handling capability of a single rectifier. A low power W-band tunable solid-state source delivering 0.4 W CW power equipped by the focusing lenses is used to characterize the responsivity of the rectenna. A pulsed power gyrotron is used to identify the diode breakdown point. It was found that the RF-to-DC conversion efficiency corresponding to the optimal load of 200 Ω is about 20.5% while the maximum DC power converted by the diode with optimal load is about 15 mW before breakdown.

This study focuses on the effect of heat input on the quality characteristics of tungsten inert arc gas welded incoloy 800HT joints using inconel-82 filler wire. Butt welding was done on specimens with four different heat inputs by varying the process parameters like welding current and speed. The result indicated that higher heat input levels has led to the formation of coarser grain structure, reduced mechanical properties and sensitization issues on the weldments. The formation of titanium nitrides provided resistance to fracture and increased the tensile strength of the joints at high temperatures. Further aging was done on the welded sample at a temperature of 750°C for 500 hours and the metallographic result showed formation of carbides along the grain boundaries in a chain of discrete and globular form which increased the hardness of the material. The formation of spinel NiCr2 O4 provided oxidation resistance to the material during elevated temperature service.

Opis:
Methods to modify gate dielectrics of MIS structures by irradiation treatments and high-field electron injection into dielectric are considered. In addition, distinctive features of these methods used to correct parameters of MIS devices are studied. It was found out that negative charge, accumulating in the thin film of phosphosilicate glass (PSG) of the MIS structure having a two-layer gate dielectric SiO_2-PSG under the high-field injection or during the irradiation treatment can be used to correct the threshold voltage to improve the charge stability and raise the voltage of breakdown for the MIS devices. It is proved that the density of electron traps rises with the increasing thickness of the PSG film. In this paper a method to modify electrophysical characteristics of MIS structures by the high-field tunnel injection of electrons into the gate dielectric under the mode of controlled current stress is proposed. The method allows to monitor changing of MIS structure parameters directly during the modification process.

Opis:
The renormalization group method is applied in order to analyze models E and F of critical dynamics in the presence of velocity fluctuations generated by the stochastic Navier-Stokes equation. Results are given to the one-loop approximation for the anomalous dimension γ_{λ} and fixed-points' structure. The dynamic exponent z is calculated in the turbulent regime and stability of the fixed points for the standard model E is discussed.
