Aim. The research aim is to find out the correlation between the comprehension of read texts in German and the different cognitive linking levels such as the propositional, the epistemic and the speech of act level. Methods. In the first phase of the research, we used qualitative content analysis to identify the different cognitive levels in the texts. After that we used a didactic test to determine the text comprehension in German at the A2 language proficiency level. Results. A statistically significant positive relationship was found between reading comprehension performance in German and the propositional level. This means, higher performance in reading comprehension of German texts is manifested if the read texts contain indicators such as indicative sentences and adverbial tenses. Subsequently, we find a tendency correlation between the comprehension of German texts and the level of speech acts. No statistically significant relationship was found in the variable of epistemic level and German text comprehension. Conclusion. Our research showed that the epistemic level indicators and the speech act level indicators made it difficult for the learners to comprehend German texts, for this reason it would be necessary that after mastering the simpler phenomena such as the indicative mood, they should fluently start to deal with the indicators of the above levels. In the educational process, it is necessary to focus on the training of word types, on explaining the meanings of these words or expressions in order to develop and broaden the vocabulary of learners.

In recent years, the economic situation in particular has been a factor influencing life of the societies, arousing public attention. Additionally, press commentaries on those issues are relatively easy to access for an average reader. In an era of increasing supremacy of electronic media in communication, the comments published online are becoming dominant, so the currenl tendencies in the language may be traced in them. That is the reason behind choosing online publication as a research corpus for this article. In the examined texts, linguistic means of persuasion háve been analyzed. Those means, despile the ongoing process of globalization are still determined culturally. A tool that permits to comprehend the similarities and discrepancies is, among oth- ers, examining illocutionary structures in the texts. A method relatively popular in 1980s and 1990s, especially in German linguistics, later subject to severe criticism. The article shows the potential of the above-mentioned method in press commentaries ex- amination, al the same limę however, an analysis of argumentative structures was car- ried out. The latter permitted to capture the quantitalive dominance o f certain arguments (deontological and ethical-aesthetic), while employing the analysis of illocutionary structures allowed for determining their role in the structural hierarchy, therefore to con- clude which of the arguments play the superior, and which the supportive role.Moreover, the corpus comprising the Polish and German online press publications constitutes interesting research materiał in terms of changes in the presentation of the text, that is to formulate questions about the boundaries of individual genres, about the freedom of the reader in choosing the „modules” on the Internet or, consequently, about the reader’s responsibility for the text crealed this way.

Artykuł poświęcony jest aspektom tłumaczenia tekstów kancelaryjnych w formie rękopisów i tekstów odczytanych z okresu wczesno-nowo-wysoko-niemieckiego. Celem rozważań jest pokazanie metod przekładu tych tekstów na współczesny język polski. Proponowana droga do takiego przekładu składa się z trzech etapów: odczytanie starego rękopisu, przekład tekstu na nowożytny język niemiecki, przekład na współczesny język polski. Ewentualne pominięcie etapu przekładu na współczesny język niemiecki nie jest to wskazane ze względu na fakt, iż wówczas badacze niemieccy bez znajomości języka wczesno-nowo-wysoko-niemieckiego utraciliby dostęp do treści danego tekstu. Prezentowane badania oparte są na tekstach kancelarii Zakonu Krzyżackiego i niemieckojęzycznych kancelarii będących kontynuacją tej kancelarii (np. teksty powstałe w miastach obszaru Prus Królewskich po II pokoju toruńskim).
The publication is devoted to the aspects of translating chancellery texts existing in the manuscript form and texts read off from the Early New High German period. The paper provides basic information introducing the problems of reading manuscripts from the turn of the Middle Ages and the modern era. The road to Polish translation usually consists of three stages: reading the old manuscript, translation of the text into modern German, translation into Polish. The potential omission in the stage of translation into modern German is not recommended, because then German researchers without knowledge of Early New High German would lose access to the content of the text. The presented research is based on the texts of the chancellery of the Teutonic Order and German-speaking non-religious chancelleries (e.g. texts written in the cities of Royal Prussia after the Second Peace of Toruń).

Opis:
This paper investigates German legal terminology in the area of higher education in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Particular emphasis is put on the influence of English in this field arising from internationalization and the creation of the European Higher Education Area. One can assume that due to the Bologna Process – initiated on the European level with the aim of creating more comparable, compatible and coherent higher education systems – there is a wider use of English terminology than before in the field of higher education. German legal and administrative language employed in the higher education sector in the aforementioned countries has been analysed within the framework of this study with the help of comparable specialized corpora of university legislative texts. In addition, a reference corpus of international legal texts dealing with the same topic has been employed. The analysis will endeavour to establish to what extent English terminology is being used.
Przedmiotem niniejszego badania jest niemiecki język prawny w obszarze szkolnictwa wyższego w Austrii, Niemczech i Szwajcarii oraz wpływ języka angielskiego w tym obszarze w związku z umiędzynarodowieniem i stworzeniem europejskiej przestrzeni szkolnictwa wyższego. Można założyć, że poprzez proces boloński, inicjatywę na poziomie europejskim, której celem jest stworzenie porównywalnego i konkurencyjnego systemu kształcenia wyższego, język angielski jest szerzej stosowany w tym obszarze. Przy pomocy porównywalnych specjalistycznych korpusów zbudowanych z ustaw uniwersyteckich zbadano język prawny i administracyjny w zakresie szkolnictwa wyższego. Poza tym sporządzono korpus porównawczy z międzynarodowych objaśnień i komunikatów na temat procesu bolońskiego. Badanie ma na celu wykazanie, jak dalece w tym obszarze stosuje się terminologię angielską. 
Die vorliegende Untersuchung befasst sich mit der deutschen Rechtssprache im Bereich des Hochschulwesens in Österreich, Deutschland und der Schweiz und dem Einfluss des Englischen in diesem Bereich auf Grund der Internationalisierung und der Schaffung eines europäischen Hochschulraumes. Durch den Bologna Prozess, einer Initiative auf europäischer Ebene mit dem Ziel eine vergleichbarere und wettbewerbsfähigere Hochschulausbildung zu schaffen, ist es naheliegend, einen weiter verbreiteten Gebrauch des Englischen in diesem Bereich anzunehmen. Mit Hilfe von vergleichbaren fachsprachlichen Korpora aus Universitätsgesetzen wurde die deutsche Recht- und Verwaltungssprache im Bereich des Hochschulwesens untersucht. Weiters wurde ein Vergleichskorpus mit internationalen Erklärungen und Kommuniqués zum Bologna Prozess erstellt. Die Untersuchung zielt darauf ab, zu zeigen, inwieweit englische Terminologie im Bereich des Hochschulwesens verwendet wird.

Wiadomości zamieszczane na stronie internetowej Deutsche Welle są dobrym materiałem uzupełniającym na zajęciach z praktycznej nauki języka niemieckiego na studiach germanistycznych. Pozwalają na rozwijanie umiejętności językowych i komunikacyjnych (znajomość leksyki, rozumienie tekstów, wypowiadanie się w języku niemieckim) oraz umiejętności uniwersalnych – kultury czytelniczej, dociekliwości, niezależności myślenia. To ważne, by studenci ćwiczyli się w roli świadomego i krytycznego czytelnika także wtedy, gdy mają do czynienia z tekstami obcojęzycznymi.
The news placed on the website of Deutsche Welle are good additional material for Practical German Classes in German Philology Department. They allow the development of language and communicative skills (the knowledge of lexis, understanding of texts, speaking skills) and universal skills like reading culture, inquisitiveness, independence of thinking. It is important that the students practise the role of conscious and critical thinking, also in the situation when they approach foreign texts.

Od lat siedemdziesiątych ubiegłego stulecia język prawa jako język specjalistyczny cieszy się coraz większym zainteresowaniem badaczy. W początkowym okresie refleksji naukowej nad językami specjalistycznymi za konstytutywny element języka specjalistycznego uważano słownictwo fachowe. Z tego względu pierwsze prace badawcze z zakresu języka prawa poświęcone były przede wszystkim terminologii. Jednak mimo prowadzenia intensywnych badań w zakresie problemów terminologicznych tworzenie terminów w języku prawa pozostaje nadal otwartym obszarem eksploracji naukowej. Referat jest próbą przedstawienia różnorodnych środków, z jakich może korzystać język prawny, aby zaspokoić zapotrzebowanie na nowe terminy, oraz w jakim stopniu poszczególne środki są wykorzystywane w tworzeniu terminologii polskiego i niemieckiego prawa handlowego. W tym aspekcie autorka wskaże również na trudności związane z rozumieniem i właściwym stosowaniem terminów, na które może napotkać zwykły obywatel, próbujący zorientować się w skomplikowanej materii prawnej.
Since the 1970s legal language as a language for special purposes has been a subject of growing interest among researchers. In the early period of scientific study specialised vocabulary was considered to be the essential element of a language for special purposes. Therefore, the firststudies of legal language focused mainly on terminology. However, despite intensive research into the problems of terminology, forming terms in legal language remains an open area of scientific study. The article is an attempt at presenting different means that can be used in legal language to meet the demand for new terms, as well as showing the extent to which particular means are used in forming the terminology of Polish and German trade law. In this aspect the author also presents difficulties connected with understanding and proper usage of terms which an ordinary citizen can encounter when trying to comprehend complicated legal texts.

The purpose of the following paper is to reflect on the importance of academic writing in higher education and to discuss some difficulties both in the teaching process and practical implementation. For many students studying German as a second language producing academic texts in German is a daunting and „painful“ task. The complexity of the writing process often leads to many linguistic problems, especially in the area of the vocabulary, grammar and syntax. Why is academic writing so difficult for many students? One of many reasons is that the students haven’t enough practice in using what they have learned during their studies. Therefore, practising the academic writing skills should be supported at all levels within entire the higher education.
