We consider a generalized Hardy operator $Tf(x) = ϕ(x) ʃ_{0}^{x} ψfv$. For T to be bounded from a weighted Banach function space (X,v) into another, (Y,w), it is always necessary that the Muckenhoupt-type condition $ℬ = sup_{R>0} ∥ϕχ_{(R,∞)}∥_{Y}∥ψχ_{(0,R)}∥_{X'} < ∞$ be satisfied. We say that (X,Y) belongs to the category M(T) if this Muckenhoupt condition is also sufficient. We prove a general criterion for compactness of T from X to Y when (X,Y) ∈ M(T) and give an estimate for the distance of T from the finite rank operators. We apply the results to Lorentz spaces and characterize pairs of Lorentz spaces which fall into M (T).

We construct two examples of infinite spaces X such that there is no continuous linear surjection from the space of continuous functions $c_p(X)$ onto $c_p(X)$ × ℝ$. In particular, $c_p(X)$ is not linearly homeomorphic to $c_p(X)$ × ℝ$. One of these examples is compact. This answers some questions of Arkhangel'skiĭ.

Let \(X\) be a separable Banach function space on the unit circle \(\T\) and let \(H[X]\) be the abstract Hardy space built upon \(X\). We show that the set of analytic polynomials is dense in \(H[X]\) if the Hardy\polishendash Littlewood maximal operator is bounded on the associate space \(X'\). This result is specified to the case of variable Lebesgue spaces.

We prove that for each countably infinite, regular space X such that $C_p(X)$ is a $Z_σ$-space, the topology of $C_p(X)$ is determined by the class $F_0(C_p(X))$ of spaces embeddable onto closed subsets of $C_p(X)$. We show that $C_p(X)$, whenever Borel, is of an exact multiplicative class; it is homeomorphic to the absorbing set $Ω_α$ for the multiplicative Borel class $M_α$ if $F_0(C_p(X)) = M_α$. For each ordinal α ≥ 2, we provide an example $X_α$ such that $C_p(X_α)$ is homeomorphic to $Ω_α$.

Let \(C\) be a \(\rho\)-bounded, \(\rho\)-closed, convex subset of a modular function space \(L_\rho\). We investigate the existence of common fixed points for semigroups of nonlinear mappings \(T_t\colon C\to C\), i.e. a family such that \(T_0(x) = x\), \(T_{s+t} = T_s (T_t (x))\), where each \(T_t\) is either \(\rho\)-contraction or \(\rho\)-nonexpansive. We also briefly discuss existence of such semigroups and touch upon applications to differential equations.

We consider ordinary differential equations \(u'(t)+(I-T)u(t)=0\), where an unknown function takes its values in a given modular function space being a generalization of Musielak-Orlicz spaces, and \(T\) is nonlinear mapping which is nonexpansive in the modular sense. We demonstrate that under certain natural assumptions the Cauchy problem related to this equation can be solved. We also show a process for the construction of such a solution. This result is then linked to the recent results of the fixed point theory in modular function spaces.

Artykuł dotyczy miasta Ozorkowa w jego granicach administracyjnych, położonego w aglomeracji łódzkiej, 25 km od Łodzi. Celem badań było wykorzystanie koncepcji „funkcji miejsca” i jej doprecyzowanie empiryczne w badaniach małego miasta, wyróżniającego się na tle całej aglomeracji specyficzną strukturą funkcjonalną.
The article concerns the town of Ozorków within its administrative boundaries, located in Łódź agglomeration, 25 km from Łódź. The aim of the study was to use the concept of „function space” and its clarification of empirical studies of a small town, standing out against the background of the entire agglomeration specific structure functional.

We study the local structure of a separated point \(x\) in the generalized Orlicz-Lorentz space \(\Lambda ^{\varphi }\) which is a symmetrization of the respective Musielak-Orlicz space \(L^{\varphi }\). We present criteria for an \(LM\) point and a \(\mathit{UM}\) point, and sufficient conditions for a point of order continuity and an \(\mathit{LLUM}\) point, in the space \(\Lambda ^{\varphi }\). We prove also a characterization of strict monotonicity of the space \(\Lambda ^{\varphi }\).
