    W artykule podjęto refleksję nad wybranymi literackimi, ideowymi, społecznymi i obyczajowymi kontekstami genezy Don Juana Molière’a (1665), by wskazać powiązania między charakterystycznymi dla połowy XVII wieku zjawiskami kulturowymi a sposobem ukształtowania tytułowej postaci i niektórych wątków dramatu. Autorka przypomina stawiane przez różnych badaczy hipotezy na temat literackich i kulturowych korzeni Molierowskiej wersji opowieści o Don Juanie, skupiając się szczególnie na kontekstach związanych z kulturą hiszpańską. Podkreśla również, że autorowi udało się wpisać w fabularną materię legendy uwodziciela wiele komentarzy do rzeczywistości. Pomysły zakorzenione w estetycznych poszukiwaniach oraz w aktualnych dyskusjach i sporach ideowo-światopoglądowych przyczyniły się do stworzenia bohatera, którego doświadczenie koresponduje także w wielu aspektach z doświadczeniem współczesnego czytelnika i widza.
    This article considers selected literary, ideological, and social contexts of the origins of Molière’s Don Juan (1665) in order to demonstrate links between particular cultural phenomena of the mid-seventeenth century and the construction of the play’s protagonist and some thematic motifs. The author reviews various hypotheses concerning the literary and cultural roots of Molière’s version of the story of Don Juan, to focus on the evocation of Spanish cultural contexts. She also emphasizes that the author managed to incorporate into the story of the legendary seducer ample commentary pertaining to factual reality. Ideas rooted in aesthetic explorations and current ideological discussions and disputes contributed to the creation of a protagonist whose experience also corresponds in many aspects to that of the present-day reader and theatergoer.

    Artykuł dotyczy polskiej inscenizacji Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme Molière’a z 1687 roku. Autor publikuje i dokładnie opisuje odnaleziony w zbiorach Biblioteki Ossolineum we Wrocławiu program tego przedstawienia zawierający synopsis sztuki w języku polskim. Odtwarza także okoliczności wydarzenia: wydobywa z tekstu informacje, dzięki którym można stwierdzić, że przedstawienie odbyło się w Rydzynie w Wielkopolsce, w pałacu polskiego arystokraty Rafała Leszczyńskiego. Stawia kilka hipotez, które wymagają dalszych badań. Przedstawienie w pałacu Leszczyńskich w Rydzynie mogło być jedną z imprez królewskiego teatru dworskiego lub występem amatorskim. Autor przypuszcza, że inicjatywa należała do samego Leszczyńskiego, który nie tylko dobrze znał Francję i jej kulturę, lecz także prowadził stałą korespondencję z Ludwikiem XIV, uważającym go za jednego z najwybitniejszych polityków w Polsce. Podkreśla ponadto, że polska inscenizacja była jedną z pierwszych w Europie.
    This article discusses the Polish staging of Molière’s Le Bourgeois gentilhomme in 1687. The author includes and describes in detail the program of this performance, found in the collection of the Ossolineum Library in Wrocław, which includes a synopsis of the play in Polish. He also reconstructs the circumstances of the event, concluding from the program that the performance took place in Rydzyna (Greater Poland region), in the palace of Rafał Leszczyński. He puts forth several hypotheses that require further research. The performance in Rydzyna may have been prepared by the royal court theatre or an amateur theater. The author supposes that it was organized upon Leszczyński’s own initiative. The Polish aristocrat was not only well familiar with France and its culture, but also regularly exchanged letters with Louis XIV, who considered him one of the most eminent politicians in Poland. It is worth noting that the Polish staging of Molière’s play was among the first in Europe.

    Paul Valéry (1871–1945), the great French poet and essayist, did not finished his last work Mon Faust, however it was published after his death. It is poetic and philosophical drama in two parts. The story of the eponymous hero takes place in our times. Unlike in Johann Wolfgang Goethe,s Faust, the devil, not a man, is here tempted. It is obvious, because for Valéry the devil is not attractive enough to be the tempter par excellence. The unknown God is probably absent in the modern world, whereas man is lonely, tormented uncertainty. Mon Faust has not been translated into Polish, however, it is performed in theaters around the world from time to time.

    The exam-oriented education system in Hong Kong has created a language learning environment that is largely confined to traditional classroom settings, which may not take best advantage of students’ abilities to relate what they have learnt in class to real-life scenarios. Such learning environments may have implications for the way second language learners learn a new language. Numerous studies suggest that drama activities used in language classrooms can enhance second language learning. These studies put forward tasks that generate pleasant and rewarding experiences, enhance confidence and subsequently increase motivation to learn a language. By focusing on students studying in a beginning French course at a tertiary institution in Hong Kong, this article reports on how drama activities make a target language more enjoyable and easier to recall. Classroom observations and interviews with students (N = 30) revealed that learning French via drama had a number of positive effects on second language learners especially in terms of their confidence. The learning of French through drama may provide a language learning environment that enables students to apply their French language skills more effectively in real-life situations.

    W 1719 roku Jean-Baptiste Dubos opublikował olbrzymią rozprawę o sztuce Réflexions critiques sur la poésie et sur la peinture, w której zaproponował nowy rodzaj refleksji o tym, co artystyczne. Choć czerpał z teorii starożytników, to na szeroką skalę wprowadził do swojego dzieła nowoczesną, zwiastującą sensualizm perspektywę osobistego odbioru i indywidualnego zachwytu. Polskim teatrologom Dubos znany jest niemal wyłącznie dzięki artykułowi Zbigniewa Raszewskiego Partytura teatralna, przez co sprowadza się jego idee głównie do rozważań o możliwości stworzenia zapisu gry scenicznej. Tymczasem osiemnastowieczny teoretyk fascynował się istnieniem takiej partytury o tyle, o ile widział w niej narzędzie do wskazania aktorowi kierunku poszukiwań, której celem nie była utopijna wierność autorskiemu zamierzeniu, ale szansa na analizę wolności własnej i poszukiwania prawdy sztuki. Artykuł omawia główne strategie narracyjne zastosowane przez Jean-Baptiste’a Dubosa w traktacie, prezentuje główny obszar teatralnych zainteresowań autora i  jego wyobrażenie o zastosowaniu maski w teatrze antycznym i w komedii dell’arte. Szkicuje związki koncepcji księdza Dubosa z osiemnastowieczną teorią i praktyką paryskiego teatru.
    In 1719, Jean-Baptiste Dubos published an extensive dissertation titled Réflexions critiques sur la poésie et sur la peinture, in which he proposed a new kind of reflection on art. Although he drew on ancient theories, he chiefly introduced a modern perspective of personal perception and individual enchantment to his work, foreshowing sensualism. In Polish theatre studies, l’Abbé Dubos is known almost exclusively through Zbigniew Raszewski’s article Partytura teatralna [Theatre Score]; consequently, his ideas are reduced mainly to deliberations on the possibility of creating a record of stage performance. In fact, however, the eighteenth-century theorist was fascinated by the idea of such a score inasmuch as he saw it as a tool for showing the actor the direction of exploring the part, not in order to achieve a utopian faithfulness of the author’s intention, but rather to analyse the actor’s own personal freedom and search for the truth of the play. The article discusses the main narrative strategies employed by Jean-Baptiste Dubos in the treatise and presents the main area of his theatrical interests and his idea of the function of the mask in ancient theatre and in commedia dell’arte. It also outlines the relationship between Dubos’s concepts and 18th-century theory and practice of Parisian theatre.

    In the last 30 years there has been an increased interest among researchers in the problem of self-translation, particularly in the context of novel translation. The aim of the following paper is to present the challenges of self-translation in a context of dramatic texts. The corpus of analysis for this article will be three plays written by bilingual artists who are rooted in Western Canadian provinces – Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The analysis of the fragments of the originals compared with the self-translated versions of the plays: “La Trahison/The Betrayal” by Laurier Gareau (2004) “La Maculée/sTain” by Madeleine Blais-Dahlem (2012) and Marc Prescott’s “Fort Mac” (2009) will allow us to determine the characteristics of self-translation of each of these “privileged translators”.
