Opis:
The fibre Bragg gratings (FBG) are used in measurements as optical transducers which can also be used in high-frequency strain measurements [1, 2]. In such applications the output signal is distorted mainly due to the grating length [3, 4]. In order to select the proper grating length, the rise-time error (RTE, Fig. 2, Eq. 3), the amplitude error of the frequency change (AFCE, Fig. 2, Eq. 4) and the mean square error (MSE, Fig. 3, Eq. 5) were calculated. The calculations were carried out in several steps. In order to model the reflected grating power, the transfer matrix description [5] was used when taking into account the individual changes of parameters of each section of the grating (Eq. 1) [6]. The effective central fre-quency was assumed to be the grating output signal (Eq. 2)[7]. The dynamic errors were calculated [8] for a half sinusoidal (Eq. 8) impulsive strain waveform, and different apodization functions (raised-cosine profile Eq. 6, sinc Eq. 7) (Fig. 1) [9]. The results can be summarized in a conclusion: the calculated errors allow selecting the proper length of the fibre grating if the errors are established, and the waveform of the pulse is identified. The influence of the apodization function is observable for the RTE and AFCE, while for the MSE it is insignifi-cant.

Opis:
Fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) are widely used as temperature and strain measurement systems and in telecommunications systems. In order to simplify detecting the wavelength change (which is the output signal from FBB), fiber Bragg grating based optical wavelength discriminators can be used. In this paper, discriminators with apodized, chirped FBG cooperating with the identical grating of a sensor are considered. The analysis includes: the processing range (assuming the nonlinearity characteristic is less than 1%), the processing equation and the range of strain measurement. On the basis of simulation tests, there is discussed the influence of the following parameters: chirp value (Subsection 3.1), length (Subsection 3.2) and constant refractive index change averaged over the grating period (Subsection 3.3) of selected FBGs on the discriminator characteristic.

Opis:
The article presents an analysis of the impact of bending optical fibers with tilted Bragg gratings on their spectral parameters. This article proves that it is possible to a choose TFBG cladding mode and the optical spectrum range related to it that allows the best metrological properties to be obtained when measuring bend. The results contained in the paper explain why the minima in the spectral characteristics, corresponding only to some cladding modes, change their shape during TFBG bending, which is important for application of Bragg gratings as bending sensors. It has been presented that in the case of TFBG we are able to aggregate the knowledge obtained during experiment to the form of a physical model of the fiber bending sensor.

Opis:
In this article, we study tilted fiber Bragg gratings (TFBGs) with tilt angles of 6°and 8°, their transmission spectra, and spectral parameters that have a linear dependence on the refractive index of the environment. It is shown that there can be several such characteristics, such as the minimum, width and energy of the spectrum. The linear dependence of the spectrum width on the refractive index does not depend on the tilt angle. The linear dependence of the spectrum minimum is only observed for a tilt angle of 8°. The results of this work can be used to create a sensor system based on an optical fiber.

Opis:
A Superstructure Fiber Bragg Grating (SFBG) with a two grating regions has been studied experimentally and analytically. Both transmitted and reflected spectra for SFBG were investigated in a constant temperature (room temperature). Data that archived by Spectrometer & Detector was analyzed. In the same circumstances, a set of equations considered to simulate the experimental configuration. The SFBG spectrum characterized by important parameters: Bragg wavelength, bandwidth and efficiency. Bragg wavelength is very popular and has been used by the researchers to determine the physical quantities, it represent the reflected wavelength which satisfy Bragg condition. The behavior of these spectral parameters are presented and studied in this paper. The effect of grating region on the bandwidth and efficiency of SFBG was also studied. The SFBG has been found worked as a filter for the laser source wavelengths, which is used. Furthermore, this special FBG can be developed to optimize a sensor for temperature and pressure.

Opis:
This paper presents a simulation study of the simultaneous reconstruction of the non-smooth strain distribution of an optical fiber Bragg grating and its temperature, which is based on the reflection spectrum of the reflected beam of the grating. The transition matrix method was used to model the reflection spectrum of the grating, and the nonlinear NelderMead optimization method was used to simultaneously reconstruct the strain distribution along the grating and its temperature. The results of simulations of simultaneous reconstruction of the strain profile and temperature indicate good accord with the strain profiles and temperature set. The reconstruction errors of the strain profiles are less than 1.2 percent and the temperature change errors are less than 0.2 percent, with a noise level of 5 percent.

An article herein considers the development of a fiber-optic sensor system, based on fiber Bragg gratings. Presently, fiber-optic sensors has become world-widely known amongst sensor technologies, used for monitoring engineering and construction structures. The work is linked with developing the system from fiber-optic sensors on the basis of fiber optic gratings, its characteristics, deformation behavior and temperature, acting at fiber Bragg grating by means of computer modeling. The research is focused at the analysis of characteristics and deformation and temperature behavior of fiber-optic Bragg sensor. Fiber-optic Bragg sensor with tilted grating is used for measuring deformation of the object, the strength of which is changed, dependent on the applied force, as well, for measuring and detecting any temperature deviations, influencing at fiber Bragg grating, which might bring to fire and accidents. In the research, simulation modeling there was made in the MATLAB (Simulink) software.

Opis:
A novel technology for the simultaneous and independent measurement of dual parameters is proposed and experimented. By using a single fiber Bragg grating half-pasted by 1C-LV epoxy under different curing conditions, the sensor structure is designed such that the reflective single-peak spectrum splits into a twin-peak spectrum, which makes the FBG spectrum form a natural spectral peak splitting bias. A measurement limitation exists in the FBG sensor packaging at room temperature, which can be solved by the high-temperature cured packaging method. To verify the validity of the theory and methodology, the experimental system is used. In the range from –1000 to +1000 με and from 35 to 75°C, the Bragg wavelength change is relative linear to the strain and temperature. The temperature and strain variations can be independently and simultaneously measured using the split peak, and the deviations of the FBG sensor are ±1°C and ±5 με, respectively. This single FBG sensor can realize dual-parameter measurement, which is valuable for narrow-space health monitoring.

Opis:
A novel dispersion-compensating fiber Bragg grating (FBG)-based en/decoder is proposed to compensate both the out-band and in-band dispersion in a time-spreading/wavelength-hopping (TS/WH) optical code-division multiplexing (OCDM) system. The experimental realization of such en/decoders only needs a uniform-pitch phase mask and a sub-micrometer precision moving stage. Such an en/decoder pair with the ability of compensating the dispersion of transmission in 20-km single mode fiber (SMF) is simulated and experimentally fabricated. Both the simulation and experimental results show that the decoded pulse can be recovered without any distortion owing to the elimination of dispersion.
