In this study, instead of gasketed or brazed plate heat exchangers, which are used in various fields of application, a direct metal sintering method is used to design a heat exchanger with its original geometry and with different geometries. Studies of heat exchangers found in published literature were reviewed, and the thermal behaviors of the proposed unique designs were examined. Usually heat exchangers using this design do not use channel spacing angles of 30-45-60-75° for the plate ducts. The thermal behaviors of the fluid-circulating systems were analyzed using ANSYS FLUENT software, and they used the boundary conditions found in the literature for this design. Heat transfer between the heat exchanger channels and channel walls was calculated. The analyses results show that an increase in the amount of heat transfer surface area and also an increase in surface roughness increased the amount of positive heat transfer.

The sorption equilibrium and kinetics of Sunset Yellow dye in aqueous solutions on the weak base anion exchange resin — Amberlite FPA51 were examined in this paper. The influences of phase contact time, solution pH, initial dye concentration and temperature were studied by the batch method. The amounts of dye sorbed at equilibrium changed from 9.9 to 48.7 mg/g with the increasing initial concentrations in the range 100–500 mg/L. The experimental data were analyzed by the Langmuir, Freundlich, Temkin and Dubinin-Radushkevich models of adsorption. The maximum monolayer capacity was 130.6 mg/g. The sorption free energy was equal to 14.6 kJ/mol and revealed the nature of the ion exchange mechanism in this system. The kinetic data were modelled using the pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and intraparticle diffusion equations.

The first simulation consists of a partial cut-out of gas flow canal between the heat exchanger fins. The simulation is steady state and mainly provides the information about the heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop across the canal. The second simulation takes into account the complete system of rotary heat exchanger. It is a transient simulation with moving mesh. Then the heat transfer and air flow parameters are presented as a porous volume with a heat transfer model and rotational multi zone interface conditions. This simplification is accurate providing much better performance as the number of mesh nodes is much smaller. The methodology of the model setup is presented.

Opis:
Aim of the study: The purpose of this work is to show the possibility to use a recuperative design of a heat and moisture exchange face mask (HME). Such HME are used as cold weather face masks for Arctic expeditions and conditioning of air for long-term intubated patients. Common regenerative HME have the disadvantage of increasing airway resistance and airway volume (dead space). In recuperative devices, the separation of inspired and expired airflow could reduce dead space and resistance. Materials and methods: Prototype HMEs were built using two concentric ducts of aluminium or cotton. A valve ensures that expired and inspired air are led through either the inner or the outer tube. The inner tube’s wall transmits heat and water. The HMEs were tested in a simulated Arctic environment using a breathing simulator and characterized in terms of heat and moisture exchange efficiency. The new design was also tested at room temperature in order to simulate the conditions of long-term intubation. To compare the results, the relative difference in temperature (Performance Coefficient PC) between the expired and the inspired air was calculated. Results: During the experiments, the ambient temperature was −37°C and therefore the absolute water content was about zero. The recuperative HME conditioned the air to 21°C and 10.7 mg/l water (61% relative humidity), giving a PC of 82%. At room temperature the recuperative mask showed a PC of 62%.Conclusion: The recuperative HME shows great potential. It might be of use in clinical conditions and Arctic expeditions.

The development of civilization is associated with an increase in demand for energy. Nowadays, the technologies using renewable energy sources are particularly important. The heating systems powered by heat pumps are increasingly used. The article presents an integrated mathematical model that takes into account the joint operation of the ground heat exchanger and the internal circuit of the heat pump. Modeling was done in Matlab environment. The modeling results allow optimizing the evaporator design in order to effectively use the heat pump.

The paper contains description of conception, realization a tests of an accumulative heat exchanger. The appliance has a sectional construction with four cassettes filled with ceresine – a mixture of paraffins. The exchanger is dedicated for ventilation and cooling applications, especially in passive buildings. Usage of phase change materials is one of the most important topics in the whole area of energy storage. Series of tests have been done, during which both, the casing and the cover have been insulated, thereby thermal losses have been limited. Furthermore, paper presents an influence of insulation on the heat storage possibility in the proposed accumulative heat exchanger.

The paper describes the main directions of gas turbines improvement in terms of application of the cascade pressure exchange rules for air compression in the machine�fs working cycle. The final calculation results of the four variants of the working process organization on the base of the two-stage gas turbine compression unit with inter-cooling and heating of the gas medium are presented. Opportunities and provision of energy efficiency increase of cascade pressure exchange gas turbine by increasing the maximum temperature of the circulation and recirculation of waste heat gas compression are shown.

In the paper, the results of numerical simulations of the steam flow in a shell and tube heat exchanger are presented. The efficiency of different models of turbulence was tested. In numerical calculations the following turbulence models were used: k-ε, RNG k-ε, Wilcox k-ω, Chen-Kim k-ε, and Lam-Bremhorst k-ε. Numerical analysis of the steam flow was carried out assuming that the flow at the inlet section of the heat exchanger were divided into three parts. The angle of steam flow at inlet section was determined individually in order to obtain the best configuration of entry vanes and hence improve the heat exchanger construction. Results of numerical studies were verified experimentally for a real heat exchanger. The modification of the inlet flow direction according to theoretical considerations causes the increase of thermal power of a heat exchanger of about 14%.

Desmopressin (DDAVP) action on platelets is associated with the development of procoagulant response but the underlying mechanism of this phenomenon is not known. We investigated whether this effect of DDAVP might be due to activation of plasma membrane Na+/H+ exchanger. The DDAVP-induced platelet procoagulant response, measured as phospholipid-dependent thrombin generation, was dose dependent and significantly weaker than that produced by collagen or monensin (mimics Na+/H+ antiport). Both the DDAVP- and collagen-produced procoagulant responses were less pronounced in the presence of EIPA, an Na+/H+ exchanger inhibitor. Flow cytometry studies revealed that in vitro treatment of platelets with DDAVP or collagen was associated with the appearance of both degranulated (and fragmented) and swollen cells. The DDAVP-evoked rise in size and granularity heterogeneity was similar to that produced by collagen or monensin and was not observed in the presence of EIPA. Using flow cytometry and annexin V-FITC as a probe for phosphatidylserine (PS) we demonstrated increased and uniform binding of this marker to all subsets of DDAVP-treated platelet population. The DDAVP-evoked PS expression was dose dependent, strongly reduced by EIPA and weaker than that caused by monensin or collagen. As judged by optical swelling assay, DDAVP in a dose dependent manner produced a rise in platelet volume. The swelling was inhibited by EIPA and its kinetics was similar to that observed in the presence of monensin. Electronic cell-sizing measurements showed an increase in mean platelet volume and a decrease in platelet count and platelet crit upon treatment with DDAVP. DDAVP elicited a slow (much slower than collagen) alkalinization of platelet cytosol. Altogether the data indicate an involvement of Na+/H+ exchanger in the generation of procoagulant activity in DDAVP-treated platelets.

Hydrol was refined and saccharified enzymatically, following which its glucose was crystallized directly or in a mixture with starch hydrolysate.
W przeprowadzonych doświadczeniach, ostatni odciek po krystalizacji glukozy tzw. hydrol o wartości 64 DE, stanowiący produkt uboczny hydrolizy skrobi metodą kwas-enzym poddawano rafinacji wymieniaczami jonowymi (kationitem i anionitem) oraz żywicą adsorpcyjną w celu usunięcia zanieczyszczeń mineralnych i organicznych (tab. 1), w tym głównie białka surowego. Następnie oczyszczony hydrol scukrzono glukoamylazą (0,25%s. s.) w temp. 60°C przy pH 4,5 w ciągu kilku dni (tab. 2). Jednocześnie scukrzano glukoamylazą hydrolizat skrobi o ok. 22 DE po wstępnej kwasowej hydrolizie i mieszaninę hydrolu rafinowanego i hydrolizatu w stosunku 1: 4. Uzyskano znaczne scukrzenie hydrolu rafinowanego do wartości 86 DE, równającej się redukcyjności soku glukozowego produktu II. Scukrzanie glukoamylazą mieszaniny hydrolu i hydrolizatu pozwoliło osiągnąć redukcyjność 92,8 DE zbliżoną do wartości 94,4 DE soku glukozowego produktu I (samego hydrolizatu). Przeprowadzona analiza składu węglowodanowego hydrolu surowego i hydrolu rafinowanego po jego scukrzeniu glukoamylazą pozwoliła stwierdzić podwyższenie prawie 1,5-krotne zawartości glukozy i obniżenie do około połowy zawartości izomaltozy i izomaltotriozy w s. s. hydrolu oraz praktycznie zanik pozostałych oligosacharydów rj. maltozy i jej wyższych homologów. Po zagęszczeniu wymienionych roztworów, scukrzonych glukoamylazą, do ok. 72 Bx i zaszczepieniu ich 1,25% monohydratu glukozy krystalicznej, przeprowadzono w ciągu 2-4 dni w temperaturze stopniowo obniżanej z 44°C krystalizację w nich glukozy. W wyniku tego procesu uzyskano 36,2% glukozy krystalicznej (w przeliczeniu na bezwodną) z hydrolu rafinowanego scukrzonego a nawet 42,4% wykrystalizowanej glukozy z mieszaniny hydrolu i hydrolizatu skrobi (1 : 4) to jest ilość zbliżoną do glukozy wykrystalizowanej z czystego hydrolizatu skrobi- 44,1%, co jest dobrym rezultatem. Powyższe wyniki mają istotne znaczenie z uwagi na kilkakrotnie wyższą cenę glukozy krystalicznej niż glukozy zawartej w hydrolu.

Use of low-temperature energy accumulated in the ground for heating buildings requires the borehole heat exchangers. The amount of heat exchanged (by the heat exchanger with the urethane) depends on the construction material parameters used to make the exchanger. One of the problems with the efficiency of the heat exchanger is the amount of heat transferred between the borehole pipes. This phenomenon can be described using numerical simulations or by studying a laboratory model. This article shows the results of laboratory measurements of the heat flux permeating between the pipes of the heat exchanger.

Reynolds number defines the fluid flow character. Three types of flow are distinguished: laminar, transitional and turbulent flows. By changing the flow conditions in the coaxial vertical borehole heat exchanger, a research was carried on energy (heat) exchange. The authors analyzed the flow of fluids through a model of concentric vertical heat exchanger in the Laboratory of Geoenergetics in AGH University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Drilling, Oil and Gas. Measurements for different materials and dimensions of internal column were performed.

The paper presents results of numerical fmite volume analysis of an efficiency of honeycomb compact gas to gas heat exchanger usedfor compressor interstage cooling for aircraft jet engine. The main analysis starts with building geometry followed by the problem description and model discretization leading to the flnal results and summary. Eight cases were created for the basic model and also several more for afinned geometry. The parallel and counter-current flow modes were considered Special emphasis was laid on finding the heat transfer rate, LMTD parameter and temperature distribution. It was found out that a honeycomb structure is almost insensitive for flow arrangement change and that afinned structure assures much higher heat transfer rate. The honeycomb structure is almost insensitive for flow arrangement change while the finned structure turned out to provide a much better heat transfer. The structure is also almost insensitive for a more efficient (i. e. parabolic) fin shape could also increase the heat transfer in the required area. A more accurate mesh should be created to analyse the finned structure and get more reliable results. The honeycomb structure provides apossibility to create the heat transfer process between more then two fluids i. e. three or four.

The article describes harmful factors from the environmental point of view that accompany almost all stages of the production of non-ferrous metals. Due to the fact that this industry requires large volume of water, these factors require special attention when cleaning wastewater. The contamination of wastewater by non-ferrous metallurgy is characterized by metal ions, particulate pollutants, acids, SAS, etc. A common feature of all these substances is harmfulness, however, they are often very aggressive and toxic. The article focuses on the possible use of hidrocarboaluminates calcium as an active ion exchanger for cleanup wastewater metallurgical production.

This paper presents the experimental investigation of an earth-to-air heat exchanger for heating purposes in the Patna region of India, using an experimental test rig. In the view of the author, real field experiments have several limitations such as lack of repeatability and uncontrolled conditions. It also takes more time for the response of parameters that depends on nature and climate. Moreover, earth-to-air heat exchangers may be expensive to fabricate and require more land area. Thus, in this work authors executed their experimental work in indoor controllable environments to investigate the thermal performance of an earth-to-air heat exchanger. The actual soil conditions were created and maintained the temperature at 26°C throughout the soil in the vicinity of pipes. Three horizontal PVC pipes of equal lengths and diameters of 0.0285 m, 0.038 m and 0.0485 m were installed in the test rig. The experiments were performed for different inlet air velocities at ambient air temperature. This study acknowledges that the maximum rise in outlet temperature occurs at a lower speed for smaller pipes. Also, the maximum effectiveness of 0.83 was observed at 2 m/s for the smallest diameter pipe.

Corrosion is a main problem for longtime exploration of heat exchangers in automotive industry. Proper selection of accelerated corrosion test for newly developed material is a key aspect for aluminum industry. The selection of material based on corrosion test includes test duration, chemical spray composition, temperature and number of cycles. The paper present comparison of old and newly developed accelerated corrosion tests for testing automotive heat exchanger. The accelerated test results are comprised with heat exchanger taken from market after life cycle.

The operation of thermal devices and installations, in particular heat exchangers, is associated with the formation of various deposits of sediments, forming the boiler scale. The amount of precipitate depends on the quality of the flowing liquids treatment, as well as the intensity of the use of devices. There are both mechanical and chemical treatment methods to remove these deposits. The chemical methods of boiler scale treatment include the cleaning method consisting in dissolving boiler scale inside heat devices. Worked out descaling concentrate contains phosphoric acid (V) and the components that inhibit corrosion, anti-foam substances, as well as anti-microbial substances as formalin, ammonium chloride, copper sulphate and zinc sulfate. Dissolution of the boiler scale results in the formation of wastewater which can be totally utilized as raw materials in phosphoric fertilizer production. As a result, both the preparation produced and its use are entirely free from waste.

Ventilation systems consume more and more energy because of the often complex treatment of the air supplied to closed spaces. Looking for sources of energy allow for significant savings costs, which often translate into renewable energy sources. One of the more popular solutions is to use energy from the ground by various methods. Known and relatively common solutions are based on ground heat exchanger and ground collector cooperating with a heat pump. The paper presents the possibility of cooperation ventilation system with ground air heat exchanger and heat pump both in summer and winter period. A number solutions of this type of system, supported by calculation examples and moist air transformation in the Moliere chart have been presented. Support ventilation system with renewable energy sources allows significant savings in operating as shown in the article.

Thermal Response Test (TRT) is a standard test performed in borehole heat exchangers (BHE), which provides thorough understanding of thermal parameters of surrounding rock mass. Following work consists of calculations for hydraulic power and pressure losses along the BHE’s length. Analysis was carried out in eight BHE’s with different diameters, lengths and heat carriers in various areas throughout Poland. In accordance with TRT results, potential power exchanged between BHE and rock mass was determined. In order to find relations between pressure losses and volumetric flow rate, hydraulic tests in average static temperature of rock mass and during heating period were investigated. Proportions between hydraulic power and total power exchange with rock mass are also presented in following research.
