Research background: Cross-national sanctions are external factors with high uncertainty. The current situation of green innovation is not optimistic and the future of the uncertain development is worth exploring. Purpose of the article: This study intends to investigate how cross-national sanctions affect green innovations by examining data from 130 countries from 1990 to 2020. We use six different forms of sanctions (including those from the U.S., EU, UN, as well as unilateral, plurilateral, and economic sanctions) as the primary explanatory variables, with environmental management innovations serving as a proxy for green innovations. Methods: Difference-in-Difference (DID) technique; Logit model. Findings & value added: The number of environmental management inventions produced by a nation's inventors is negatively affected by plurilateral and economic sanctions, as well as by the US and the EU sanctions, while other types of sanctions have weaker effects. In terms of sub-indicators, plurilateral and the US sanctions have a serious negative impact on air pollution control and water pollution control inventions, while plurilateral, The EU and economic sanctions have a negative impact on waste management innovations. However, unilateral and the UN sanctions have no apparent effect on any type of environmental technology. Further logit model tests show that the US and economic sanctions lead to a decrease in green innovations. Moreover, the difference between Asian and African countries is that the negative effects of plurilateral, the U.S., the EU, and economic sanctions are more obvious in African countries, while cross-national sanctions have no significant impact on Asian countries. The results of our study should help countries under sanctions to respond more effectively to environmental progress.

A graph G =(V,E) with p vertices and q edges is said to have skolem difference mean labeling if it is possible to label the vertices x ϵ V with distinct elements f (x) from {1,2,3,…,p+q} in such a way that the edge e =uv is labeled with |f(u)-f(v)|/2 if |f(u)-f(v)| is even and (|f(u)-f(v)|+1)/2 if |f(u)-f(v)| is odd and the resulting labels of the edges are distinct and are from {1,2,3,…,q}. A graph that admits skolem difference mean labeling is called a skolem difference mean graph. In this paper, the author studied the edge reduced skolem difference mean number of some graphs.

In this paper, we study the nonoscillatory behavior of three classes of fractional difference equations. The investigations are presented in three different folds. Unlike most existing nonoscillation results which have been established by employing Riccati transfor mation technique, we employ herein an easily verifiable approach based on the fractional Taylor’s difference formula, some features of discrete fractional calculus and mathematical inequalities. The theoretical findings are demonstrated by examples. We end the paper by a concluding remark.

Opis:

We investigate a scalar characteristic exponential polynomial with complex coefficients associated with a first order scalar differential-difference equation. Our analysis provides necessary and sufficient conditions for allocation of the roots in the complex open left half-plane what guarantees asymptotic stability of the differential-difference equation. The conditions are expressed explicitly in terms of complex coefficients of the characteristic exponential polynomial, what makes them easy to use in applications. We show examples including those for retarded PDEs in an abstract formulation.

The article presents problem of social difference and the related mechanisms of exclusion. The paper shows the process how the difference needed in the world is born inequality, discrimination, human suffering, often as unwanted and unintended consequences of group processes. The factor differentiating way to experience the social difference and forms of engagement in reality, is the human identity. The text presents the arguments in favor of the thesis that the difference does not necessarily lead to inequality, and a key role in this process is the identity of the man, with his basic need of recognition. Educational activities are considered an important factor in institutional support in this process. Also shows the process of individualization (the problem of individualism) in the social world as an essential factor in the offending unfavorable balance between an inclusion and social exclusion.

Opis:

Equality and freedom are the foundations of liberal democracy and the Western society. However, they can be differently defined, and their definition implicates the different conditions and shaping of both culture and society. The main line of distinction is the orientation of definitions of both equality and freedom: they can be individual-oriented or group-oriented. The philosophical dilemma about what is true freedom and true equality is also a practical problem: which definition should be applied in today’s social politics and how to integrate individuals and groups into a single multicultural postmodern society. I shall demonstrate the main conceptions and potential consequences of their application. Then I shall analyse cultural representations of those conceptions. Such representations not only reflect but also influence popular thinking. Finally, I shall try to draw some conclusions regarding the implementation of different social conceptions.

Otherness is encountered, noticed and, as the case may be, analyzed in a relation, because it is in a relation that the identity of I and the identity of You is revealed, and our identity is basically rooted in the individual constitution of a specific I and a specific You. The aim of the present study is to probe the phenomenon of otherness (alterity), and through it the fundamental question of who is the other we encounter, and next to show the main ways of experiencing the encounter with the other, whichalways occurs in the sphere of good and evil. In Józef Tischner’s view the experience of the other is a fundamental one, in that it reveals much of our own self-experience. My encounter with the other also throws into relief myself as the other and the fact that his otherness is different from mine. In the beginning of this discovery of otherness, the gap between I and You appears to be unbridgeable. But Tischner believes that the sensation of separateness and even of “being alien” assumes a kind of similarity,with the proviso that the latter occurs on the plane of our mutual being foreach other. Tischner stresses otherness in similarity and similarity in otherness, both constituted and coexistent in the relation between I and You. Tischner’s idea involves a paradox: to open oneself to the alterity of the other, we have in a way to “bear” our own otherness and thereby to come to be “for the other”.

This study examined the relationship between gender role conflict and attitude towards psychological help-seeking. This study involved 120 university students from a university. Gender Role Conflict Scale was used to measure gender role conflict and Attitude towards Seeking Professional Psychological Help Scale-Short Form was used to measure attitude towards psychological help-seeking. The results found there is a significant negative relationship between gender role conflict and attitude towards seeking psychological help. The results suggest that it is essential for mental health professionals to recognise the impact of gender roles on the counselling process.

The paper is devoted to the construction of observers for linear fractional multi–order difference systems with Riemann–Liouville– and Grünwald–Letnikov–type operators. Opis:

In the paper the linear time-invariant fractional-order models of the separated wheel closed-loop electrical drive of the autonomous platform are considered. As a reference model one considers the classical model described by the second-order linear difference equation. Two discrete-time fractional-order models are considered: non-commensurate and commensurate. According to the sum of the squared error criterion (SSE) one compares two-parameter integer-order model with the four-parameter non-commensurate and three-parameter commensurate fractional-order ones. Three mathematical models are built and simulated. The computer simulation results are compared with measured velocity of the real autonomous platform separate wheel closed-loop electrical drive.

The paper focuses on a linear diffrence equation depending on parameters. The equation is related to Good win’s theory of extrapolative expectations. The stability region of the equation is investigated. Conditions for asymptotic stability are formulated and presented as an optimisation problem, which is further analysed. Despite employing state-of-the-art solvers, numerical results have turned out to be too ambiguous to provide the basis for definite conclusions about the investigated stability region.

Artykuł przedstawia algorytm wyznaczenia współrzędnych statku powietrznego przy wykorzystaniu metody Single Difference Between-Satellites (SD B-S) dla obserwacji GLONASS. W tym celu stworzono autorski program SD_GNSS, którego kod źródłowy napisano w języku Scilab 5.3.2. Scharakteryzowano metodę SD B-S oraz opisano analizę dokładności pozycjonowania dla prezentowanej metody badawczej.
This paper presents algorithm to estimate aircraffs coordinates using Single Difference Between-Satellites (SD B-S) method based on GLONASS observations. For this purpose, author created specialist SD_GNSS software, which code source was written in Scilab 5.3.2 language. SD B-S method was characterized and positioning accuracy analysis for presented method was described.

In the manner of Pallaschke and Urbański ([5], chapter 3) we generalize the notions of the Minkowski difference and Sallee sets to a semigroup. Sallee set (see [7], definition of the family \(S\) on p. 2) is a compact convex subset \(A\) of a topological vector space \(X\) such that for all subsets \(B\) the Minkowski difference \(A -B\) of the sets \(A\) and \(B\) is a summand of \(A\). The family of Sallee sets characterizes the Minkowski subtraction, which is important to the arithmetic of compact convex sets (see [5]). Sallee polytopes are related to monotypic polytopes (see [4]). We generalize properties of Minkowski difference and Sallee sets to semigroup and investigate the families of Sallee elements in several specific semigroups.

A graph G (V, E) with p vertices and q edges is said to have skolem difference mean labeling if it is possible to label the vertices x V with distinct elements f(x) from {1,2,….,p+q} in such a way that the edge e = uv is labeledwith |f(u)-f(v)|/2 if |f(u)-f(v)| is even and (|f(u)-f(v)|+1)/2 if |f(u)-f(v)| is odd and the resulting edges get distinct labels from {1,2,…,q}. In this paper, the authors generate skolem difference mean graphs from near skolem difference mean graphs.

A graph G is a difference graph iff there exists S ⊂ IN⁺ such that G is isomorphic to the graph DG(S) = (V,E), where V = S and E = {{i,j}:i,j ∈ V ∧ |i-j| ∈ V}.
It is known that trees, cycles, complete graphs, the complete bipartite graphs $K_{n,n}$ and $K_{n,n-1}$, pyramids and n-sided prisms (n ≥ 4) are difference graphs (cf. [4]). Giving a special labelling algorithm, we prove that cacti with a girth of at least 6 are difference graphs, too.

Opis:

Flood monitoring of wetlands and floodplains is a new issue in remote sensing, as compared to the mapping of open water bodies. The method based on spectral water indices, calculated on the basis of green, red and shortwave infrared bands, is one of the most popular methods for the recognition of a water body in multispectral images. The recently introduced Sentinel-2 satellite can provide multispectral images with high spatial resolution. This new data set is potentially of great importance for flood mapping, due to its free access and the frequent revisit capabilities. In this study, three popular water indices (Modified Normalized Difference Water Index, Normalized Difference Pond Index and Normalized Difference Turbidity Index) were used. The efficiency of the proposed method was tested experimentally using the Sentinel-2 image for the Kampinos National Park in Poland. The experiment compared four extraction algorithms including three based on individual water indicators and one on a combination of them. The results showed that the 10-metre false colour composite produced significantly improved the recognition of flooding in wetland areas by comparison with single spectral water indices. In this way, flooded wetlands were mapped based on the Sentinel-2 data set for the years 2017-2018.

The main theme of this essay is f i n i t e l i f e, which is the bedrock of modern biopolitics. In the series of lectures devoted to the ‘birth of biopolitics,’ Michel Foucault defines it as a new system of ‘governing the living’ based on the natural cycle of birth and death, and the law of genesis kai phtora, ‘becoming and perishing.’ Foucault’s answer to modern biopolitics is to accept its basic premise – that life is finite, and, consequently, reduced to the natural law of birth and death – and then slightly correct the naive liberal trust in the ‘naturalness’ of human existence by appropriating and internalizing the true essence of the biopolitical paradigm: the disciplining practices. This essay contests Foucault’s minimalist Neostoic program of the ‘care of the self’ by demonstrating that we can still hope for a n o t h e r f i n i t u d e that refrains from any renaturalization of human existence.

We extend results of Campbell, Meyer, Jr. and Rose of applications of the Drazine inverse to linear systems of differential equations with singular constant coefficients to solutions of linear systems of difference equations A x_(n+1)+B x_n= f_n ,n≥0 when A and B are m×m complex matrices and may both singular, under conditions that rank(A)=1 and trace of A is not equal zero. f_n is an arbitrary function in C^m, and x_n∈C^m. We give a new closed form for all solutions of those systems when they are tractable, using the theory of the Drazin inverse, and a matrix K∈C^(m×m).

Since such difference equation system is over-determined, a theorem similar to Frobenius's theorem is proved on Galois field. Opis:

The traditional modulation method of the inverter in a permanent magnet synchronous mo- tor (PMSM) is lengthy and computationally intensive. Based on this, a simplified sinusoidal pulse width modulation method is proposed. In this method, voltage space vectors in each sector are synthesized, and the sector in which the synthesized vector is located is determined by the rotation angle of the resultant vector, and then the acting time of the basic vector is calculated by the voltage difference of the phase voltage. The problem of trigonometric functions and coordinate conversion is not involved in the whole calculation process, the calculation model is simple, and it is easy to realize digitization. Mathematical modeling is carried out by using the simulation software Matlab, and the correctness of the calculation method after optimization is verified, which provides an idea for the later research of the inverter modulation method.

Suppose that G is a simple, vertex-labeled graph and that S is a multiset. Then if there exists a one-to-one mapping between the elements of S and the vertices of G, such that edges in G exist if and only if the absolute difference of the corresponding vertex labels exist in S, then G is an autograph, and S is a signature for G. While it is known that many common families of graphs are autographs, and that infinitely many graphs are not autographs, a non-autograph has never been exhibited. In this paper, we identify the smallest non-autograph: a graph with 6 vertices and 11 edges. Furthermore, we demonstrate that the infinite family of graphs on n vertices consisting of the complement of two non-intersecting cycles contains only non-autographs for n ≥ 8.

This paper presents novel discrete differential operators for periodic functions of one- and two-variables, which relate the values of the derivatives to the values of the function itself for a set of arbitrarily chosen points over the function’s area. It is very characteristic, that the values of the derivatives at each point depend on the function values at all points in that area. Such operators allow one to easily create finite-difference equations for boundaryvalue problems. The operators are addressed especially to nonlinear differential equations.

In this paper, we study the oscillatory behavior of the solutions of a first-order difference equation with non-monotone retarded argument and nonnegative coefficients, based on an iterative procedure. We establish some oscillation criteria, involving lim sup, which achieve a marked improvement on several known conditions in the literature. We study the scalar difference equation $ x(k+1)=x(k)+\frac{f(x(k-N))}{N} $ where f is nonincreasing with negative feedback. This equation is a discretization of the well-studied differential delay equation $ x′(t) = f(x(t − 1)). $ We examine explicit families of such equations for which we can find, for infinitely many values of N and appropriate parameter values, various dynamical behaviors including periodic solutions with large numbers of sign changes per minimal period, solutions that do not converge to periodic solutions, and chaos. We contrast these behaviors with the dynamics of the limiting differential equation. Our primary tool is the analysis of return maps for the difference equations that are conjugate to continuous self-maps of the circle.

In Simone de Beauvoir’s œuvre, the problem of love and the relationship with the Other turns out to be fundamental. The need to realize one’s own desires forces the individual to open for the Other who – instead of making the relationship more attractive – brings about its breakup. The Author raises this issue in terms of androgyny interpreted as a relationship between two people, which is possible only in the spheres of total freedom and reciprocity, both spiritual and sexual, revealing an inherent influence of other people on our lives.The texts by Beauvoir, whose idée fixe is a search for the wholeness, enable one to understand that otherness is also understood as a struggle to change the perception of femininity and of independence. The other also fascinates us by difference. It encourages one to get to know oneself, one’s possibilities and limitations, as well as one’s identity. By looking into the eyes of the other (like in a mirror) a person has an opportunity to create a new reality, thereby rejecting stereotypes and a traditional value system. Thus, finding a sense of life and realizing existing differences become possible.The multidimensionality of the concept of otherness enables the critic to present the writer’s original vision, propagating the individual development and autonomy, defined by relationships with others and, at the same time, by his or her pursuit of an existential fullness with another human being.

This article’s aim is an attempt at discussing the notion of reproductive work/labour pondered over by female representatives of Italian autonomism and alsoeminent in Luce Irigaray’s philosophy. By pointing to the said relationship between Irigaray’s thought and Italian feminist movements, the author indicates the missing link in feminist historiography, referring feminist thought back to the origins of Marxist philosophy. Following the trail of thought of both the feminist female theoreticians and Luce Irigaray, the author proves that through regaining the significance of reproductive work/labour playing crucial role in patriarchal-capitalist economy, it is actually possible to redefine the gender distribution of labour/work based on exploitation of women in economic, social, political, and cultural dimension. Putting sexuate difference to the eponymous work would, therefore, involve intertwining those two programmes: Irigaray’s philosophy and Italian autonomism, accompanied by a political programme per se, which would transform social relations between men and women,thereby creating new worlds and new relations.

The paper discusses particular modes of audiovisual self-consciousness in autothematic and highly (self )reflexive films, equipped with “empowered” devices of narration that question popular conventions of portraying physical otherness. Living in Oblivion (1995), Storytelling (2001), Jeremy the Dud (2017), and Chained for Life (2018) are analysed in contexts of lowering narrative illusion methods of managing “troublesome bodies” on screen, as well as the long tradition of “disabling” portrayals of visible dissimilarities (e.g. little person as oneiric figure, inspiring “supercrip” stereotype).

Harper's operator is defined on $\ell^2({\sym Z})$ by $$ H_\theta \xi(n) = \xi(n+1) + \xi(n-1) + 2\cos n\theta\, \xi(n), $$ where $\theta\! \in \![0,\pi]$. We show that the norm of $\|H_\theta\|$ is less than or equal to $2\sqrt{2}$ for $\pi/2 \le\theta\le \pi$. This solves a conjecture stated in [1]. A general formula for estimating the norm of self-adjoint tridiagonal infinite matrices is also derived.

The paper situates the thought of Jean Jacques Rousseau in the context of the 17th and 18th century social and political debate on the possibility of creating a better society, which intensified with the crisis of feudal system and early modern discovery of the Other. The paper also discusses consequences of this debate for shaping anthropology as a field of knowledge and understanding culture of the time. The idea of a “noble savage” according to which non-Europeans, i.e., the “primitive” people living in the state of nature as free and equal, without concerns and inconveniences of civilization, is contrasted with an opposite project of a “degenerate savage” of Thomas Hobbes, who used it as a justification for absolute monarchy in European countries and of European societies over non-Western ones.

A digraph G is a difference digraph iff there exists an S ⊂ N⁺ such that G is isomorphic to the digraph DD(S) = (V,A), where V = S and A = {(i,j):i,j ∈ V ∧ i-j ∈ V}.For some classes of digraphs, e.g. alternating trees, oriented cycles, tournaments etc., it is known, under which conditions these digraphs are difference digraphs (cf. [5]). We generalize the so-called source-join (a construction principle to obtain a new difference digraph from two given ones (cf. [5])) and construct a difference labelling for the source-join of an even number of difference digraphs. As an application we obtain a sufficient condition guaranteeing that certain (non-alternating) trees are difference digraphs.

The Emotional Contagion Scale (ECS) developed by Dr. Elaine Hatfield, is a self-report measure used to investigate the individual’s susceptibility to catch another person’s emotions and experience the same. The catching of emotions could be conscious or unconscious. The study aims to validate the Emotional Contagion scale on the Indian subcontinent population for future use and application. The original American scale consisted of 15 items to be responded to by selecting the suitable option from given five, was given to an Indian sample of 498 individuals. To check the validity, Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) was performed. Gender differences were assessed and it was observed that men were high on catching and experiencing the emotions of others as compared to women. The Indian sample on ECS shows moderate to high reliability and high content validity. It thus concludes that the Emotional Contagion scale is valid for future use on the Indian Population.

The aim of this paper is to correct a historical error, one that I will argue is at the heart of the contemporary feminist movement: the ancient claim, grounded in a flawed understanding of the reproductive act, that woman is inferior to man. I will show that the lineage of this can be traced as far back as the pre-Socratic philosophers, finally finding its earliest concrete expression in a claim most have either dismissed, forgotten, or never heard: Aristotle’s argument that women are merely “malformed males” and are therefore “inferior to man”. The theory found support in the first century with a historical interpretation of Genesis 2:18-23, traceable in particular to the Hellenistic Jewish philosopher, Philo (BC 13-AD 54). Philo’s own theory about woman echoed that of Aristotle’s; his legacy includes the vague feeling that Scripture itself declares that, since woman is created after man, she is necessarily subservient to him. She becomes, as it were, the “second sex”. The combination of Aristotle and Philo proved too persuasive even for the mind of St. Thomas Aquinas and the theory accelerated and then spread through the university system inaugurated during the Middle Ages, subsequently informing the social structures and norms of Western civilization, going mostly unchallenged throughout human history, silently persisting even into the present time. This error represents what can be called a chronic “wound” in our intellectual tradition. And it is a wound that must be healed. I argue that the antidote is to correct this account and that it can be defeated on its own terms. Through the lens of Hebraic and Aristotelian-Thomistic anthropology, and building on the insights of St. John Paul II, I provide a robust, philosophically and theologically grounded account of man and woman from within the Catholic exegetical tradition, showing that man and woman are both equally human, equally endowed with intellect, will, and freedom while at the same time reflecting two different ways of being in the world.

The Riemann-Liouville, Caputo and Gr¨unwald-Letnikov fractional order difference operators are discussed and used to state and solve the controllability problem of a nonlinear fractional order discrete-time system. It is shown that independently of the type of fractional order difference, such a system is locally controllable in q steps if its linear approximation is globally controllable in q steps.

We give sufficient conditions for a diffeomorphism in the plane to be analytically conjugate to a shift in a complex neighborhood of a segment of an invariant curve. For a family of functions close to the identity uniform estimates are established. As a consequence an exponential upper estimate for splitting of separatrices is established for diffeomorphisms of the plane close to the identity. The constant in the exponent is related to the width of the analyticity domain of the limit flow separatrix. Unlike the previous works the cases of non-area-preserving maps and parabolic fixed points are included.

Currently, the Republic of Kazakhstan is developing a new standard for symmetric data encryption. One of the candidates for the role of the standard is the Qamal encryption algorithm developed by the Institute of Information and Computer Technologies (Almaty, Republic of Kazakhstan). The article describes the algorithm. Differential properties of the main operations that make up the Qamal cypher are considered in the questions of stability. We have shown that for a version with a 128-bit data block and the same secret key size for three rounds of encryption it is difficult to find the right pairs of texts with a probability of 2–120, which makes differential cryptanalysis not applicable to the Qamal cypher.

A certain percentage of disabled children are not raised in their biological families. It happens more and more often that the place of residence of such a child is not an institution but the adoptive or foster family. Increased prevalence of this type of families makes the study of this area of functioning of children with disabilities more and more important. The paper covers the issue of dealing with a child’s difference by their adoptive/foster parents. The difference has its source e. g. in a disability. The empirical part of the article is the result of qualitative research conducted with parents from 20 adoptive/foster families that raise a child with a disability (this is a part of a broader research project conducted by the authors with these families). The analysis of the interviews shows the ways to discover the otherness, the difference of the child, the ways to accept this otherness, and the importance they ascribe to the otherness of the child.

In times of globalisation and super-mobility, ideas of normality are in turmoil. In different societies in, across and beyond Europe, we face the challenge of undoing specific notions of normality and creating more inclusive societies with an open culture of learning to live with differences. The scope of the paper is to introduce some findings on encounters with difference and negotiations of social values in relation to a growing visibility of difference after 1989 in Poland, on the background of a critique of normality/normalisation and normalcy.On the basis of interviews conducted inWarsaw, we investigate how normality/normalisation discourses of visible homosexuality and physical disability are incorporated into individual self-reflections and justifications of prejudices (homophobia and disabilism). More specifically we argue that there are moments of ‚cultural transgressions’ present in everyday practices towards ‚visible’ sexual and (dis)ability difference.

The article is devoted towards the application of managerial accounting for deliverology development at the local government level in countries and comparing them to the stage of fiscal decentralisation implementation in Ukraine. The aim of the article is to show how the application of the managerial accounting approach in the public sector can contribute to the introduction of deliverology at the local level using Ukraine as an example. The methodology is based on the application of Difference in Difference method for the implementation of deliverology at the local government level. It has been proved that the use of multi-criteria decision-making methods in the analysis of the performance of budget programmes at the local level will contribute to the improvement of public services delivery. The main contribution of this study is to provide the basis for developing recommendations for the use of a single or uniform standard of electronic databases on regional development indicators and local budgets. This will help to ensure operational control over deviations of actual indicators from planned ones, as well as identify regions where local authorities are using resources inefficiently.

This paper deals with a finite difference method for a wide class of weakly coupled nonlinear second-order partial differential systems with initial condition and weakly coupled nonlinear implicit boundary conditions. One part of each system is of the parabolic type (degenerated parabolic equations) and the other of the elliptic type (equations with a parameter) in a cube in R1+n. A suitable finite difference scheme is constructed. It is proved that the scheme has a unique solution, and the numerical method is consistent, convergent and stable. The error estimate is given. Moreover, by the method, the differential problem has at most one classical solution. The proof is based on the Banach fixed-point theorem, the maximum principle for difference functional systems of the parabolic type and some new difference inequalities. It is a new technique of studying the mixed-type systems. Examples of physical applications and numerical experiments are presented.

Artykuł dotyczy funkcjonowania rodzin adopcyjnych, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem różnic między rodzicielstwem adopcyjnym a rodzicielstwem naturalnym. Została w nim przedstawiona teoria relacji w rodzinie adopcyjnej sformułowana przez kanadyjskiego socjologa Davida H. Kirka. Kirk wyróżnia dwa odmienne sposoby radzenia sobie z trudnościami związanymi z adekwatnym zdefiniowaniem swojej roli przez rodziców adopcyjnych: uznawanie różnic między rodzicielstwem adopcyjnym a naturalnym (acknowledgment-of-difference coping pattern) lub zaprzeczanie tym różnicom (rejection-of-difference coping pattern). Uznawanie różnic wiąże się według Kirka z lepszym funkcjonowaniem rodziny adopcyjnej w aspekcie komunikacji między członkami rodziny i satysfakcji z adopcji. W drugiej części artykułu zostały opisane badania D. Brodzinsky’ego, K. Kaye’a i D. Grotevanta, zainspirowane teorią Kirka, oraz nowe interesujące interpretacje problemu odmienności rodzicielstwa adopcyjnego prezentowane przez tych autorów.
The article The specificity of the adoptive parenthood in the light of David H. Kirk’s theory concerns differences in functioning between adoptive and natural families as presented by a Canadian sociologist David H. Kirk. According to Kirk, there are two different coping patterns with difficulties related to self-identification as an adoptive parent: acknowledgmenet of difference between adoptive and natural parenthood or rejection of such difference. The families in which adoptive parents use the first strategy have better between-member communication and, as a result, they are much more satisfied with adoption than the families using the second strategy. In the second part of the article research inspired by Kirk’s theory is presented, especially that of D. Brodzinsky, as well as K. Kaye, and D. Grotevant.

Opis:

In this paper we consider two ordinary fractional differential equations with composition of the left and the right Caputo derivatives. Analytical solution of this type of equations is known for particular cases, having a complex form, and therefore is difficult in practical calculations. Here, we present two numerical schemes being dependent on a fractional order of equation. The results of numerical calculations are compared with analytical solutions and then we illustrate convergence of our schemes. Finally, we show an application of the considered equation.

Multiculturalism is a term spreading in the West during the 1960s to indicate respect, tolerance and defence of cultural minorities. The idea of multiculturalism has become a collective imaginary (“all different, all equals”). It has generated a political ideology supporting an inclusive citizenship towards “different” cultures. After being adopted as official policy in many Countries, multiculturalism has generated more negative than positive effects (fragmenting the society, separating the minorities and fostering cultural relativism). As a political doctrine, it seems harder and harder to be put into practice. At its place, today we talk of interculturality. But this expression too seems quite vague and uncertain. This essay discusses on the possible alternatives to multiculturalism, asking itself whether the way of interculturality can be a solution or not. The Author’s thesis is that the theory of interculturality has the advantage to stress the inter, namely what lies in between different cultures. But it does not possess yet the conceptual and effective means to understand and handle the problems of the public sphere, when the different cultures express cultural values radically conflictual between them. The troubles of interculturality result from two lacks: an insufficient reflexivity inside the single cultures, and the lack of a relational interface between the different cultures (between the carrier subjects). Modern western Reason created a societal structure (lib-lab) promoting neither the first nor the second one. In fact, it neutralizes them, because it faces the dilemmas of values inside the cultural diversities through criteria of ethical indifference. Such criteria set reflexivity to zero, preventing individuals to understand the deepest reasons of the vital experience of the others. Reason is emptied of its meaning and of its understanding capability. To go over the failures of multiculturalism and the fragilities of interculturality, a lay approach to the coexistence of cultures is required, being able to give strength back to Reason, through new semantics of the inter-human diversity. The Author suggests the development of the “relational reason,” beyond the forms already known of rationality. To make Reason relational might be the best way to imagine a new social order of society, being able to humanize the globalizing processes and the growing migrations. The after-modern society would be more or less human, depending on how it will be able to widen the human Reason, structuring it inside a new “relational unit” with the religious faith.

In this paper we apply the finite-difference method to solve a parabolic equation of a general problem of short wave diffraction in a conducting medium. It is based on the implicit Runge-Kutta method of the second order combined with the iterative procedure. We also present new numerical simulations for X-rays focusing using the mentioned approach. We consider CRLs with a parabolic profile with a radius of curvature up to 0.2 mm. The main goal of this work is to elaborate an X-ray calculator for a PC which would present new possibilities compared to conventional ones. The correspondent code is written in FORTRAN to obtain the focal distance and diffraction spot profiles. Simulations for two cases were performed, the first one with 33 Al lenses for X-ray energy 15 keV, the results showed that we needed to consider more than 50000 points in each direction which forced us to consider a one-dimensional simulation only. For the second case we performed a simulation for several lenses, up to 15 Al lenses to perform the 2-d simulation. We have good agreement with the experimental data for the focal distance, and for the intensity at the focal plane while, for the spot size, we have smaller FWHM for the Gaussian beam at the detector than in the experimental data. We believe that the FWHM we have is smaller as our lenses are ideal without any defects.

Elastic or acoustic wave-field modeling is an important part of seismic exploration. It can be used during the planning, processing and interpretation stages of seismic investigation. First attempts of using wave-field modeling were undertaken in the seventies by Alford, Kelly and others (Alford R M, Kelly K R and Boore D M 1974 Geophysics 39 (6) 834; Kelly K R, Ward R W, Treitel S and Alford R M 1976 Geophysics 41 2). These attempts were restricted by the limitations of computers at that time. Even now, computation for models of the standard exploration scale could last many hours, and many days in case of longer recording times. One of the best methods to overcome this disadvantage is parallelization of computations (Niccanna C and Bean C J 1997 Computers and Geosciences 23 (7) 771; Villareal A and Scales J A 1997 Computers in Physics 11 (4) 388). This paper presents the results of distributed parallelization of elastic and acoustic wave-field modeling based on a Parallel Virtual Machine.

Distributions of the gate-dielectric EBG(x, y) and semiconductor-dielectric EBS(x, y) barrier height values have been determined using the photoelectric measurement method. Modified Powell-Berglund method was used to measure barrier height values. Modification of this method consisted in using a focused UV light beam of a small diameter d =0.3 mm. It was found that the EBG(x, y) distribution has a characteristic dome-like shape which corresponds with the independently determined shape of the effective contact potential difference fMS(x, y) distribution. On the other hand, the EBS(x, y) distribution is of a random character. It is shown that the EBG(x, y) distribution determines the shape of the fMS(x, y) distribution. The model of the EBG and EBS barrier height distributions over the gate area has been proposed.

Objectives: Epidemiologic studies suggest an association between environmental exposure to benzene and hematologic cancers, but the relationship is not fi rmly established. The aim of this study was to assess the potential association between residence near hazardous waste sites containing benzene and hospitalization discharge rates for persons having hematologic cancers. Materials and Methods: We determined the number of hospital discharges of people with hematologic cancers in New York State except for New York City for the years 1993 to 2008. Descriptive statistics and negative binomial regression models were used to compare the rates of hospitalization of residents in zip codes containing hazardous waste sites containing benzene to the rates of discharges from residents in zip codes without waste sites. Results: When adjusting for potential confounders we found a 15% increase in the rate of hospitalization for chronic lymphatic leukemia (CLL) [rate ratio (RR): 1.15; 95% confi dence interval (CI): 1.00–1.33], a 22% increase in the rate of discharges for total leukemia (RR: 1.22; 95% CI: 1.04–1.43) and a 17% increase in the rate of discharges for total lymphoma (RR: 1.17; 95% CI: 1.02–1.35) in the benzene exposed sites. We found greater effects of exposure in African Americans compared to Caucasians, females compared to males and people with higher socioeconomic status (SES) compared to those with lower SES for several of the diseases studied. Conclusions: After controlling for major confounders we found statistically signifi cant increases in discharge rates for several hematologic cancers in persons residing in zip codes containing benzene waste sites. These results provide additional support for a relationship between environmental exposure to benzene and risk of hematologic cancers.

Introduction. We consider a real life problem: a. person has made a deposit of D0 dollars in bank B, which calculates interest on this deposit at in=100•in% after each n+l-st quarter and the interest is compounded at the end of each consecutive year since the deposit date, which means that the interest is capitalised yearly. In the case discussed the basic time unit is a quarter but the conversion period - the time interval at the end of which the interest is compounded - is four quarters (for the terminology see [3]). We ask the following question: what is the balance of the person after n time units, i.e. after n quarters? Such a question is important to people planning various sorts of investments or making arrangements with life insurance institutions. We cannot find an answer to this question in available literature. In particular, it is not to be found in recent books devoted to the subject [see 1-6]. We want to find general formulas that would allow us to express this balance by the other given quantities. Such formulas allow us to solve inverse problems consisting in finding the initial deposit Z)q , the interest rate i or the length of the period after which a capital reaches a given level. In this paper we give explicit formulas for the above-mentioned balance. They can be applied to the problems with any number of payments. At the end of this paper we give some examples of application of these formulas to solving the mentioned inverse problems. The obtained formulas make solving such problems easy. A straightforward application of backward recurrence formulas derived from formula (2), although possible, is quite troublesome.ct

The paper presents the results of investigations concerning the measurement of the refractive index and the thickness of planar waveguide structures, obtained by photo polymerization of the polymer SU8. In the paper the mode sensitivity has been calculated as a function of the thickness in a single-mode structure. The thickness of the layer has been determined in the case when the interferometer is most sensitive to changes of the refractive index.

Opis:

In this paper, I attempt to address some of the themes of Ludwig Wittgenstein’s Tractatus logico-philosophicus with the aim of their deconstructionist interpretation. My analysis is based on David Gunkel’s book Deconstruction (MIT Press 2021). Based on some of its findings, I show how the Tractatus allows deconstruction and its practice to be thought. I show that the graphic structure of signs is crucial for the young Wittgenstein’s analysis and that it justifies the metaphysical findings in favor of which he argues.

A technique is developed to establish a new oscillation criterion for a first-order linear difference equation with several delays and non-negative coefficients. Our result improves recent oscillation criteria and covers the cases of monotone and non-monotone delays. Thesis. The aim of the paper is to interpret Kierkegaard's concept of repetition as a way of creating and experiencing authentic existence in an environment that is set up to repeat this same, inauthentic content of consciousness. Concept. Repetition is associated with determinism and represents social stagnation. Repetition creates the conditions for an inauthentic existence. The article offers an interpretation of Kierkegaard's concept of repetition, which is the repetition of another and produces authentic existence. Results and conclusions. Repetition automatically produces of the same. The repetition of one's choice of oneself is a process of creating spirit and individuality, which is a fundamental principle of authentic existence. Creating an authentic personality is one of the ways to solve the current crisis in society, which is associated with an inauthentic experience of existence, abdication of responsibility and repetition of lies. Cognitive value. The postmodern society associated with the use of the media is not the cause of social disorientation. It is a means that an individual uses to repeat the same. The social environment and magic themselves are not negative, the negative is the inauthentic attitude of a person to them.

Opis:

In this paper, we investigated plasmonic waveguides in near infrared spectrum, especially at original (λ = 1310 nm) and also communication bands (λ = 1550 nm) using gold nano-elliptic rings. It is possible to shift localized surface plasmon resonance, by appropriate geometrical properties, to the desired wavelength. Three-dimensional simulations utilizing the finite-difference time-domain algorithm are used to determine the set of geometrical parameters of gold nano-elliptic rings for exciting localized surface plasmon resonance at 1310 and 1550 nm. Employing different configurations of gold nano-elliptic rings chains, waveguides are designed, with–3 dB transmission loss coefficients and group velocities calculations for different modes. In comparison with circular nanorings, elliptic rings showed better characteristics, such as high electric field enhancements and low loss transmission coefficients.

In this work, we have compared the barrier height measurements carried out using the Powell method with the photoelectric effective contact potential difference (phi MS) measurement results. The photoelectric measurements were performed on the samples that were previously applied in the investigation of the influence of stress on the duration of annealing in nitrogen. This paper shows that the results of barrier height measurement using the Powell method differ significantly from the phi MS measurement results.

Measurement of consumer preferences is one of the most important elements of marketing research. In the measurement of consumers’ preferences Maximum Difference Scaling method can be used, which was implemented in the module MaxDiff (Best-Worst Scaling) of Sawtooth Software. The aim of the article is to present the author’s MaxDiff package for the R program, which is one of the most important no-commercial programs offered under the GNU GPL licence with free access to the source code. The article presents some functions of the MaxDiff R package with the example of application of consumers’ preferences in empirical analysis.

Opis:

This paper deals with the problem of the scattering of surface water waves by underwater obstacles. The main goal of the investigations is to estimate the efficiency of such structures in protecting sea shelf zones from open sea waves. A useful measure of the protection is the ratio of the square of the amplitude of the transmitted wave to the square of the amplitude of the arriving wave. The problem is formulated in terms of the finite difference method. It is shown that the discrete approach to the problem leads to eigenvalue problems for two matrices resulting from the discrete description. As compared to analytical formulation, the discrete method may be convenient in application to unsteady problems and obstacles of complicated geometry.

The problem of asymptotic stabilization for a class of differential inclusions is considered. The problem of choosing the Lyapunov functions from the parametric class of polynomials for differential inclusions is reduced to that of searching saddle points of a suitable function. A numerical algorithm is used for this purpose. All the results thus obtained can be extended to cover the discrete systems described by difference inclusions.

This paper presents a series of new results in finite and infinite-memory modeling of discrete-time fractional differences. The introduced normalized finite fractional difference is shown to properly approximate its fractional difference original, in particular in terms of the steady-state properties. A stability analysis is also presented and a recursive computation algorithm is offered for finite fractional differences. A thorough analysis of computational and accuracy aspects is culminated with the introduction of a perfect finite fractional difference and, in particular, a powerful adaptive finite fractional difference, whose excellent performance is illustrated in simulation examples.

The paper deal with classical solutions of initial boundary value problems for infinite systems of nonlinear differential functional equations. Two types of difference schemes are constructed. First we show that solutions of our differential problem can be approximated by solutions of infinite difference functional schemes. In the second part of the paper we proof that solutions of finite difference systems approximate the solutions of aur differential problem. We give a complete convergence analysis for both types of difference methods. We adopt nonlinear estimates of the Perron type for given functions with respect to the functional variable. The proof of the stability is based on the comparison technique. Numerical examples are presented.

In the paper, there have been constructed discrete models of the non-classical Bittner operational calculus that are related to the notions of Jackson and Hahn derivatives, both known from the quantum calculus. To achieve it, we have used the Bittner operational calculus representation for the forward difference.
W artykule skonstruowano dyskretne modele nieklasycznego rachunku operatorów Bittnera związane z pojęciami pochodnej Jacksona i pochodnej Hahna znanymi z rachunku kwantowego. Do tego celu wykorzystano reprezentację rachunku operatorów Bittnera dla różnicy progresywnej.

The main goal of this paper is to analyze how the age factor behaves as an alleged individual difference (ID) variable in SLA by focusing on the influence that the learning context exerts on the dynamics of age of onset (AO). The results of several long-term classroom studies on age effects will be presented, in which I have empirically analyzed whether AO works similarly across settings and learners or whether it is influenced by characteristics of the setting and the learner—and if so, whether there are contextual variables that can help us understand why thoseoutcomes are different. Results of multilevel analyses indicate that macro-contextual factors (i.e., the wider school context) turn out to have a mediating effect on the relation between AO and L2 proficiency increase, exerting both positive and negative influences and thus suggesting that AO effects are malleable, which is what one would expect if we are dealing with an ID variable. In contrast, no such phenomenon can be observed in relation to lower contextual levels; learners within classes do not vary with regard to how sensitive they are to AO. Since the broader social environment in which learning takes place seems to be more influential than the cognitive state assumed to be a characteristic of the individual, I suggest that an ID model that assumes that age is a “fixed factor” (Ellis, 1994, p. 35) is not entirely satisfactory.

Opis:

An analytical approach to the solution of an infinite slab static problem using the finite strip method is presented. The structure simply supported on its opposite edges is treated as a discrete one. A regular mesh of identical finite strips approximates the continuous structure. This regular slab discretization enables one to derive a fundamental solution for the two-dimensional discrete strip structure in an analytical, closed form. Equilibrium conditions are derived from the finite element method formulation. The set of the infinite number of equilibrium conditions is replaced by one equivalent difference equation. The solution to this equation is the fundamental function, i.e. Green's function for considered slab strip.
W pracy zaprezentowano analityczne rozwiązanie problemu statyki nieograniczonej tarczy metodą pasm skończonych. Tarcza swobodnie podparta na przeciwległych krawędziach jest rozwiązywana jako układ dyskretny. Ciągła struktura jest aproksymowana regularną siatką składającą się z identycznych pasm skończonych. Regularny podział pozwala na wyprowadzenie funkcji fundamentalnych dla dwuwymiarowego układu dyskretnego w analitycznej, zamkniętej formie. Warunki równowagi zostały wyprowadzone zgodnie ze sformułowaniem metody elementów skończonych. Układ równań równowagi składający się z nieskończonej liczby równań został zastąpiony jednym, równoważnym równaniem różnicowym. Rozwiązanie tego równania jest funkcją fundamentalną dla rozpatrywanej tarczy.

Assume the eigenvalues and the weights are given for a difference boundary value problem and that the form of the boundary conditions at the endpoints is known. In particular, it is known whether the endpoints are fixed (i.e. Dirichlet or non-Dirichlet boundary conditions) or whether the endpoints are free to move (i.e. boundary conditions with affine dependence on the eigenparameter). This work illustrates how the potential as well as the exact boundary conditions can be uniquely reconstructed. The procedure is inductive on the number of unit intervals. This paper follows along the lines of S. Currie and A. Since the inverse problem considered in this paper contains more unknowns than the inverse problem considered in the above reference, an additional spectrum is required more often than was the case in the unique reconstruction of the potential alone.

In this paper we consider a generalization of the separation technique proposed in [10,4,7] for the separation of finitely many compact convex sets \(A_i,~i \in I \) by another compact convex set \(S\) in a locally convex vector space to arbitrary sets in real vector spaces. Then we investigate the notation of shadowing set which is a generalization of the notion of separating set and construct separating sets by means of a generalized Demyanov-difference in locally convex vector spaces.

Opis:

We have shown that using focused UV laser beam in photoelectric methods it is possible to measure local phi MS values over the gate area of a single MOS structure. The phi MS distribution is such that its values are highest far away from the gate edges regions, lower in the vicinity of gate edges and still lower in the vicinity of gate corners. Examples of measurement results and description of the measurement system are presented. The dependence of the phi MS value on the exposure time and the power density of UV light is discussed.

The paper contains comparing calculations of the stress fields in an elastic plate with notch along the arc of a circle, ellipse or parabola obtained by analyticnumerical method based on complex Kolosov-Mushelishvili potentials and by numerical variation-difference method. These fields differ by no more than 2%, which, in particular, indicates the reliability of such numerical implementation.

The corporeal difference is the most fundamental in experiencing the otherness of the other. Confrontations with freak bodies in public spaces often leave us helpless, yet they call for strategies that would resolve the problem of their otherness. Modernity has formulated two basic rules governing the presence of heterotopic body: its medicalization and normativization. It would then seem that there is now a void where once was a freak show. Yet, the traces of freak shows’ spectacular logic can be traced in the television talk show formula. The comparison of these two is not aimed only at pointing at some superficial similarities, but also to more in-depth analogies concerning the logic of representation of corporeal otherness and lastly – to the metanarrative behind the show that justifies its obscenity. The paper concludes with a question of the possibility of adapting, yet, another strategy of making freak bodies publicly visible: freak show-based performances of disabled artists.

The paper is concerned with the problem of interaction between a coherent floating ice cover and a fixed, rigid, vertically-walled circular cylinder. The ice cover, of horizontal dimensions considerably larger than the size of the structure, is assumed to be driven against the structure by wind and water current drag stresses. The floating ice cover is modelled as a plate that is subject to the action of horizontal forces and transverse bending due to the reaction of underlying water. During an interaction event, of a quasi-static character, the ice is modelled as a creeping material the behaviour of which is described by a viscous flow law with two, bulk and shear, viscosities. The viscosities change dramatically in their magnitudes during a transition from converging to diverging deformation of the material to reflect the fact that floating ice offers much less resistance to tensile rather than compressive stresses. By numerical simulations carried out by a finite difference method, the influence of the ice rheological parameters on the distribution of contact stresses at the ice - structure interface is investigated. Two types of boundary conditions at the interface, free-slip and no-slip, are considered, and their effects on the loads sustained by the structure are compared. In addition, creep buckling of the ice sheet near the structure is analysed to determine the critical time at which ice starts to fail due to exceeding its flexural strength at given loading conditions.

Learners’ beliefs on language learning and perceived self-efficacy are important to the success of their second/foreign language (SL/FL) learning. To reveal the general profiles of and relationship between Chinese students’ beliefs about English learning and self-efficacy, the present study examined beliefs about English learning and self-efficacy held by Chinese university EFL (English as a FL) learners at differing English proficiency levels. A total of 1,698 students from a top university in Beijing answered a battery of questionnaires. The results revealed a general overview of the students’ beliefs about the nature of language learning and the roles of teachers, feedback and learning strategies, and self-efficacy. Another major finding was that participants at different English proficiency levels differed significantly from one another in beliefs about language learning and self-efficacy.
