Opis:
Depression is one of the most frequent mental diseases, and has a detrimental impact on numerous areas of human life. The development of depression may be fostered by various factors: genetic, biochemical, biological, mental and social. A significant role when treating depressive disorders is played by pharmacological, psychotherapeutic or cognitive and behavioral impacts. There is also evidence proving high effectiveness of properly dosed physical activity, both in the prevention and in the treatment of depressive disorders. The article is aimed at presenting the influence of regular physical activity on the improvement in emotional intelligence, in the treatment of depressive disorders. The paper is a narrative review and has been written based on the documentation analysis method, using the quantitative and the qualitative technique. The tool used was the Polish and the international scientific literature from databases, i.e. Web of Science, PubMed, Google Scholar and Europe PMC. The research material was constituted by groups of women and men, aged 9 to 80, varying in the numbers of group members. The research tools used were various psychological questionnaires, as well as magnetic resonance images. The study covered various forms of physical activity and the period of their use, while MRI was applied to assess morphological changes occurring in the brain as a result of undertaken physical activity. It was proven that regular physical training, regardless of its form, causes a reduction in stress and depression symptoms in all the respondents, notwithstanding their age and gender.
Web of Science, PubMed, Google Scholar i Europe PMC.

Opis:
After reviewing the study conducted by Marszałek et al. [1], which focuses on physical activity as a supportive form for emotional intelligence in the treatment of depressive disorders, we believe that this work addresses a topic of significant importance to both physicians and patients – the utility of physical activity in preventing and treating depression. Depression is a leading mental illness, causing disability worldwide. From 1990 to 2017, the global incidence of depression increased by almost 50% [2]. Limited social awareness causes delayed reporting of patients to specialists and delayed treatment. Depression often leads to suicidal acts among the affected individuals, with suicides being one of the main causes of death among young people. The primary methods of treating this condition include antidepressant medication and psychotherapy alone or in combination. Due to the constant rise in incidences, it is necessary to explore new treatment possibilities and prevent the development of depression [3].

INTRODUCTION: Interpersonal relations significantly impact our well-being and mental health. They are also crucial among students, especially when they start living independently in a new social environment. The study aimed to determine the impact of relations on the occurrence of depression, anxiety, and drowsiness among medical students in Poland. MATERIAL AND METHODS: An online questionnaire was created, consisting of four parts: the authors’ questionnaire on interpersonal relations, the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), the Generalized Anxiety Disorder 7-item Scale (GAD-7), and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (ESS). The results were analyzed using STATISTICA software. RESULTS: 2339 completed questionnaires were obtained. 69.75% of the subjects had good/rather good relations with their co-tenants, and 5.04% – had bad/definitely bad. 85% of the participants had good relations with their parents. 65.63% of the respondents were satisfied with their social relationships; in addition, 71.91% of respondents were satisfied with their relationships with their friends. Poor relations with family and co-tenants, and poor social and friend relationships were linked to higher levels of depression, anxiety, and sleepiness. This phenomenon was particularly evident among introverts. CONCLUSIONS: Identifying the risk factors could significantly improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of mental disorders in this group. Supporting students and paying greater attention to social competencies equally with medical knowledge acquired by them would be highly recommended.
Złe relacje z rodziną i współlokatorami oraz słabe relacje społeczne i przyjacielskie były powiązane z wyższym poziomem depresji, lęku i senności.

Introduction and aim. The COVID-19 pandemic negatively affected both the physical and mental health of societies. The present study was conducted to determine the relationship between psychological well-being with levels of anxiety, COVID-19 fear, and depression in individuals hospitalized with COVID-19. Material and methods. This descriptive correlative study was conducted with 685 individuals diagnosed with COVID-19 treated in the clinics of a pandemic hospital. The data of the study were collected with the information form, psychological well-being scale (PWBS), COVID-19 fear scale (FCV-19S), and hospital anxiety and depression scale (HADS). Results. The mean PWBS score of the participants was 37.21±14.3, the FCV-19S score was 20.10±10.41, the HADS-anxiety score was 9.07±7.29, and the depression score was 10.74±7.35. The PWBS scores with FCV-19S scores of the participants, HADS-anxiety, and HADS-depression scores were found to be negatively correlated (p<0.001). Conclusion. In conclusion, as the anxiety, fear, and depression levels experienced by individuals receiving inpatient treatment in a pandemic hospital due to COVID-19 increase, their psychological well-being levels decrease at a statistically significant level. It may be recommended to intervene in the anxiety, fear, and depressive symptoms of individuals receiving inpatient treatment due to a diagnosis of COVID-19 to increase their psychological well-being.

Opis:
Depression is one of the primary causes of global mental illnesses and an underlying reason for suicide. The user generated text content available in social media forums offers an opportunity to build automatic and reliable depression detection models. The core objective of this work is to select an optimal set of features that may help in classifying depressive contents posted on social media. To this end, a novel multi-objective feature selection technique (EFS-pBGSK) and machine learning algorithms are employed to train the proposed model. The novel feature selection technique incorporates a binary gaining-sharing knowledge-based optimization algorithm with population reduction (pBGSK) to obtain the optimized features from the original feature space. The extensive feature selector (EFS) is used to filter out the excessive features based on their ranking. Two text depression datasets collected from Twitter and Reddit forums are used for the evaluation of the proposed feature selection model. The experimentation is carried out using naive Bayes (NB) and support vector machine (SVM) classifiers for five different feature subset sizes (10, 50, 100, 300 and 500). The experimental outcome indicates that the proposed model can achieve superior performance scores. The top results are obtained using the SVM classifier for the SDD dataset with 0.962 accuracy, 0.929 F1 score, 0.0809 log-loss and 0.0717 mean absolute error (MAE). As a result, the optimal combination of features selected by the proposed hybrid model significantly improves the performance of the depression detection system.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a chronic inflammatory disease affecting the central nervous system through the destruction of sheaths (myelin), disseminated in space and time. The aim of our work is to study the neurocognitive concept and mood disorders in patients with MS. The study includes in this study 75 cases of MS, collected at the Neurology (B) and Neurogenetics Department of Rabat Ibn Sina Hospital. The study was performed on MS patients using different scales that included: a self-questionnaire (socio-demographic, clinical), Hospital Anxiety and Depression scale (HADS), Rosenberg's Self-Esteem scale (RSE) and Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS). The mean age for the onset of the disease was 30-years, with a sex ratio of 3.4. The main clinical signs are: 69.33% and 70.67% of patients had respectively anxious and depressive disorder, which was associated with low self-esteem in 89% of them. The distribution according to the evolutionary forms of MS is 65% Relapsing Remitting (RR), 29% secondary progressive (SP) and 5% Primary Progressive (PP). As for the assessment of disability using EDSS, we note an average 4.07±1.829. That results of our study concord with other studies on the same age category. It confirms the predominance of women. They are followed by the appearance of psychological disorders such as depression anxiety and cognitive disorders. Remitting MS is the most common when compared to other forms. The anxiety and depression score was strongly correlated with the degree of self-esteem and disability.

Charlotte Wells, 2022), Dom nocny (The Night House, reż.
The author considers the relationship between experiencing time and experiencing depression. She points out that during major depressive episodes, there may occur a shift of temporal structures, so cinematic representations should be modified to reject visual clichés and substitute them with an embodied and affective experience of time. The article features examples of phenomenological approaches to experiencing time during depression. It focuses mainly on film tropes in the depictions of depressive disorder; the author criticizes clichés, especially close-ups of a crying woman, and proposes emphasizing embodied temporal structures instead. The main case studies are The NeverEnding Story (Die unendliche Geschichte, dir. Wolfgang Petersen, 1984), Aftersun (dir. Charlotte Wells, 2022), The Night House (dir. David Bruckner, 2021), and Home (dir. Ursula Meier, 2008). The essay concludes with remarks about the connections between depression and capitalism, explored by slow cinema narrative. Aim. The empirical study of gender differences in the dispositional mental states of university teachers who were internally displaced during martial law. Methods. A combined research strategy was used, integrating the methods for comparing samples of female and male participants. The different types of dispositional mental states of the respondents were identified by the author’s methodology for the study of dominant mental states. Results. It was discovered that the respondents’ psychological content parameters showed statistically significant gender-based differences. Group 1 prevailed in terms of anxiety (U = 855.0; p = .000). Group 2 prevailed in terms of self-control (U = 975.0; p = .001); awareness of events (U = 707.5; p = .000); expected attitude (U = 1074.0; p = .006); expected result (U = 1067.0; p = .006) and psychological well-being (U = 1113.5; p = .014). The dispositional mental states of a female sample of internally displaced university teachers were represented by five components with a total variation of ∑d = 74.527%. The male sample had four factors with a total variation ∑d = 94.442%. It was stated that there were significant differences between the dispositional mental states of female and male teachers in terms of formal characteristics and content loading of components. Conclusions. The scientific value of empirical facts about the dispositional mental states of university teachers who were internally displaced as a result of wartime action is justified. The importance of incorporating the discovered results into scientific and educational processes is emphasised.

Objectives COVID-19 has become a major source of stress for people around the world. Stressful life events play a role in the pathogenesis of sleep disorders such as insomnia which is considered a risk factor for anxiety and depression. Emotion regulation is an important factor linked with sleep and mental health problems. Therefore, the main goal of the present study was to examine whether insomnia could constitute a mediation mechanism that explains the relationship between emotion regulation strategies (rumination, reappraisal, suppression) and stress-induced mental health outcomes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Material and Methods The cross-sectional study was conducted among young (M±SD 24.8±2.24) individuals (N = 281, 85.4% women) during the time of the third wave of infections in Poland. Data were collected by means of selfreport questionnaires, including the Emotion Regulation Questionnaire; Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire; Athens Insomnia Scale; Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale. The direct and indirect effects of emotion regulation strategies on depression, anxiety, and stress were calculated using a bootstrap estimation technique. Results All analyzed indirect effects were significant. The results show that insomnia mediates the relationships between all 3 emotion regulation strategies and stress, anxiety and depression. Conclusions The presented results shed the light on the role of insomnia on the relationships between emotion regulation strategies and emotional states experienced during the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, the present study suggests that educational and therapeutic interventions aimed at improving emotion regulation might be useful for improving symptoms of insomnia and, through it, symptoms of affective disorders. The aim of the study was a comparison of two groups of women who suffered from breast cancer in the past, selected on the basis of the time elapsed since treatment completion (<7 and >7 years). The specific areas of interest were the quality of life, sense of control, and level of depression. Results from 37 women were analysed. The average age in the research sample was 57. The study was conducted with the use of EORTC QLQ-C30, MHLC, and Depression Assessment Questionnaire. Women in whose case the time elapsed since the completion of anticancer treatment is no more than 7 years have a more negative assessment of the quality of life aspects, that is physical and social functioning, in comparison to persons in whose case the adaptation time to changes, following cancer and treatment, is longer (more than 7 years). The studied persons with a shorter period elapsed since the completion of anticancer therapy hold stronger beliefs concerning their own influence on their health in comparison to women who have not undergone oncological treatment for at least 7 years. The author’s own research highlights the trend pertaining to the differences in the intensity of experiencing guilt and anxiety between the groups. However, it requires further research involving a larger group of studied patients. Despite the progress in the diagnostics and treatment of breast cancer, patients with this type of cancer still experience long-term subjective difficulties in areas making up their physical, mental, and social well-being. The research proves the differences in functioning of women depending on the time that has elapsed since the completion of anticancer treatment.

Research background: The research has two objectives and employs a serial mediation approach. First, using the general strain theory, it examines the mediating role of negative feelings and impact of economic adversity on people's risk tolerance and prudent financial behavior. The second is determining the various categories' variations according to age. Purpose of the article: The study's main objective is to evaluate financial behaviour of people with lower and medium incomes after the second wave of COVID-19 in India, and to contribute to the body of knowledge on general strain theory. Methods: The study examined the proposed framework and tested the serial mediation model based on the general strain theory used as a survey method for data collection, targeting lower and middle-income individuals in India's most populated state. The study applied PLS-SEM to test the framed hypotheses. Furthermore, the Kruskal Wallis test was applied to identify the difference in the various groups classified based on age. Findings & value added: The results reveal that economic hardship significantly influences improved financial behavior. Risk aversion attitude, loneliness, and depression mediate the relationship between economic hardship and financial behavior. Moreover, the study found quite a few significant differences between the different age groups. The present study will add to the existing literature on financial behavior under the scope of general strain theory and probably be among the few that test general strain theory with financial variables impact on lower and middle-income group individuals from a developing nation in post-COVID-19 period.

Opis:
Objectives The study assessed quality of life and depression in working people during COVID-19 pandemic, relative to their physical activity. Material and Methods The study involved 1194 people living in south-eastern Poland, and assessed life satisfaction (Life Satisfaction Questionnaire – 9 [LISAT-9]), quality of life (World Health Organization Quality of Life – BREF [WHOQoL-BREF]), depression (Beck Depression Inventory [BDI]) and physical activity. Results The respondents on average scored 4.32 in LISAT-9; respectively 66.2, 68.3, 69.6 and 63.5 in physical, psychological, social and environment domains of WHOQoL-BREF and 9.2 in BDI. Regularly performed physical activity positively affected the scores in all the psychometric tests in women with higher and secondary education and in men with vocational education. Women presented lower life satisfaction, poorer quality of life and higher level of depression than men. The psychometric scores were also differentiated by type of employment and job. Depression was identified in 44% of all the respondents. Conclusions Individuals who are economically active during the pandemic report good quality of life and no or only mild signs of depression. Working people with higher education cope more effectively with adversities of the pandemic, compared to those with lower education.

Opis:
Objectives The paper analyses the impact of socio-demographic characteristics of the employees in conditions of uncertainty in the organizations. Material and Methods The study was conducted on a sample of 210 employees using the Mental Health Inventory – 38 (MHI-38), Satisfaction with life scale (SWLS), and the Center for Epidemiological Studies – Depression (CES-D). Results The results showed that female respondents had significantly higher scores on ANX (t = 2,278, p < 0.05), while male employees had higher scores on life satisfaction (t = 2.103, p < 0.05). Older employees have a higher tendency for loss of emotional-behavioral control (F = 4.427, p < 0.05). Respondents who have satisfying living standards have also higher scores on SWLS (t = 2.257, p < 0.05). Respondents who have dissatisfying living standard have higher scores on generally positive affect (t = 3.152, p < 0.01), life satisfaction (t = 3.571, p < 0.01), psychological distress (t = 2.929, p < 0.01) and loss of emotional- behavioral control (t = 2.361, p < 0.05). Employees with different levels of educational background have similar tendencies in life satisfaction, mental health, and depressive symptoms (p > 0.05). Conclusions The study showed that the specific socio-demographic profile of the employees is related to higher levels of mental health issues. Specifically, the mental health of female and older employees have been especially affected and disturbed by uncertain conditions. The results can be potentially used both in the terms of designing activities that support the mental health of the population, as well as in relation to the mental health of employees. Opis:
The paper aimed to analyse the level of depression, anxiety and stress of female teachers and determine its association with the subjects’ psychosocial, sociodemographic, and lifestyle characteristics. A survey based on Depression Anxiety Stress Scale and International Physical Activity Questionnaire was carried out. Among teachers, 27.3% reported moderate or higher overall levels of negative emotional symptoms. Teachers with low physical activity level (PAL) were likelier to report higher levels of depression, anxiety, and stress than those with moderate or high PAL. The study indicates the importance of PA interventions for maintaining mental health in this group.
