Opis:
Forecasting process efficiency depends – to a large extent – on the correct determination of the forecasted variable. Therefore, companies should use for sales forecasting, the variables that reflect actual consumer demand. However in practice, since demand is usually not directly observable, many operational measures of demand are used. In the manufacturing and retail enterprises, the most often used variables are historical orders, shipments, and billed sales volumes. The purpose of this paper is to characterise the effects of using as the predicted variable, different operational measures of consumer demand. Theoretical discussion is illustrated by an attempt to estimate errors in demand forecasts for Avon Cosmetics’ products that are related to changes in data used for forecasting.

This paper analyzes consumer demand using a Quadratic Almost Ideal Demand System (QUAIDS), which is an extension of an Almost Ideal Demand System (a complete demand system). Complete demand system models can be used to find the relationships that are impossible to discover using single-equation models. Additionally, the QUAIDS model can be used to model a nonlinear Engel curve. The research was based on household microeconomic data collected by GUS (the Polish Central Statistical Office) in the period 1999-2015. The complete demand model has been extended by demographic variable. The results show that the QUAIDS model does not reduce to the AIDS model and is an adequate tool to analyze consumer demand.

Demand forecasts in a business may be constructed by various methods, e.g. by using Type-I formal models, or by using type-II formal models based on experts’ opinions. The experts can be the business’s managers or persons from outside of the studied business. The experts can not only construct forecasts, but also subjectively specify the probability of them coming true. In this article, the Weibull distribution is described, a distribution that may be applied in the process of constructing product demand forecasts for a business. The methodology for constructing a point forecast is explained, along with the methods for evaluating the chances of the forecast coming true and the methods for judging the probability connected with sales profitability.

The article presents the economic background of the closure of passenger service by rail in some county towns at the turn of the 1990s and the first decade of the 21st century, and the chances and opportunities for their reintroduction into the rail transport network. In connection with the process of realisation of pre-project documentation for the Kolej Plus programme including the restoration of passenger connections, the problem of forecasting the demand potential in railway transport was discussed. A simple method of estimating the potential was presented for towns, which have never had such a connection or have lost it as a result of liquidation of local lines.

Today people are faced with a huge amount of information. Demand-oriented management of information can resolve this issue. Therefore, the measures that filter this information are the desired solution.  One of these measures is information demand analysis, which can be easily used for defining problems on the labour market, where the term of talent import is becoming increasingly important. The main contribution of this study is the analysis of the challenges facing the foreign labour market from the point of view of an employee and an employer and a proposal of an information demand model for strengthening the foreign labour market information system. The information demand model is one of the stages of the development of an information-logistics engine, which ensures that the right information is available in the right location, time and quality.

Opis:
Public transportation provides its services to both urban centers and neighboring areas in the immediate vicinity of the city. The problem of urban transportation is evident, the number of people willing to use public transportation has decreased. Therefore, there is a need to delve into the issue and conduct an analysis of the demand for urban transportation in Poland in 2000-2030, this will allow us to assess in what direction urban transportation is heading, whether there is an increase in the number of people using it, or whether there is a downward trend (Zielińska 2018). Based on CSO statistics from 2009-2020 for the analysis of demand for public transportation in Poland, a forecast of people using public transportation was conducted using Statistica software for 2021-2030. Due to the situation with the COVID-19 pandemic, the study was conducted in 2 ways – with and without 2020. Public transportation will make less and less profit and even losses for the next few years through rising gasoline and energy prices. Virtually in each of the provinces, and likewise throughout Poland, a decline in the number of people willing to use public transportation is evident. conclusions. On the basis of the surveys carried out, there is a general trend that shows the current state of public transport. In most of the cases studied, a similar conclusion emerges, namely that public transport will experience a marked decline in the coming years. The number of people who want to use public transport will decrease, mainly due to the COVID-19 pandemic and people’s fears for their own safety.

The development of voluntary health insurance is characteristic of post-Communist and CEE countries. The aim of the paper is to identify the factors determining the demand for private voluntary health insurance. The main finding of the research is that the most important factor is the demographic factor. Other factors include the factor related to the ineffectiveness of treatment under universal health insurance, the factor related to health condition, the demographic factor related to longevity, and the factor related to insurance awareness and income. The research confirms conclusions from previously published studies. The most important is to confirm that the income factor positively influences the studied phenomenon. However, the results shed new light on the aspect of the demand factor, as this indicates the ageing of society and the consequent increase in private spending on health, which are the key mechanisms in the discussion, with the other factors constituting a complementary element.

Opis:
The article discusses housing demand. We focus on disequilibrium of a urban housing market and location derived segmentation. Based on literature review, we identify reasons behind housing mobility and housing location choice at household level. In the second part of the article we focus on the interaction between housing demand of urban development patterns (especially spatial aspects of it). The main objective of this paper is to show the relationship between two major dimensions of individual housing demand: (i) mobility choice and (ii) location choice and spatial transformations within the metropolitan area. The article is a critical analysis of the literature. We attempt to identify the main factors affecting the demand for housing in a specific metropolitan area. Previous studies point to a number of factors affecting the residential mobility of households. The most important are: the life cycle, relative deprivation, social capital, gender and economic situation. Studies show that these factors are correlated and are subject to mutual interactions. Reflections on diversity and segmentation of metropolitan housing markets lead to the conclusion that the local housing market can be seen as a nested structure. Each metropolitan housing market is divided into submarkets − based on location and housing services quality. The housing search is therefore sequential and hierarchical in nature. Among the most important factors determining the household choice of location within the local housing market are: economic capital, social status, spatial relationships, lifestyle, racial segregation and the quality of schools. The synthesis of the results leads to the conclusion that the demand for housing is related to certain spatial phenomena occurring in metropolitan areas. We highlight four aspects in particular:– – communication system (mass transit, road system, parking in the city center), – spatial order, – access to schools and public services (excessive density of housing and inadequate social infrastructure), – urban sprawl. Due to the information asymmetry and inelastic supply in housing market subsegments it can cause persistent imbalances and emergence of deprived areas within the urban structure.

The aim of the article is to assess changes in the enterprises’ demand for financial insurance. The analysis covered expenses incurred by business entities on purchase thereof and supply by the entity. Data used in the study came from secondary sources published in studies by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF), the Polish Chamber of Insurance (PIU) and the Central Statistical Office (GUS). Furthermore, information from the studies-related literature has been included. The time period of studies covered the years 2005–2018. Selected types of insurance included in financial insurance have been presented herein and industries which these products are especially targeted at have been indicated. Moreover, supply by entities has been discussed with an indication of insurers who hold a leading position in the financial insurance sales in Poland. It has been stated that the demand (by value) for financial insurance in the years 2005–2018 was growing. The amount of the gross premium written in 2018 was twice as high as in 2005 and amounted to PLN 1.09 billion. Furthermore, it has been determined that the highest average dynamics of market growth concerned insurance from various financial risks (group 16), which are usually offered jointly with other insurance products, but also the dynamics of expenses incurred on purchasing surety was over 200%, whereas, in 2018 it was even 360%.

Rewolucja technologiczna wywiera ogromny wpływ na sposób funkcjonowania rynku medialnego, ale także na regulacje prawne w tym obszarze. Rozwój medialnych technologii cyfrowych dopro-wadził do stworzenia wielu nowych kategorii przekazów i modyfi kacji tradycyjnych schematów komunikowania.
A dynamic development of media-related digital technologies has been observed throughout recent decades. These phenomena are conducive to significant social, economic, political and legal transformations. The development of digital media has led to the creation of many new categories of transfers and modifications of traditional communication patterns. One of the most interesting examples of these phenomena is personalized media. This could be media on-demand, but also media available via streaming, tailored to the needs of a specific recipient. The legal status of personalized media is surrounded by many doubts. This paper focuses on analyzing the legal rules defining the formal status of personalized media in the EU (particularly in the context of the Audiovisual Media Services Directive) as well as in Poland (the Broadcasting Act of 29 December 1992).

Opis:
Posłużyło to w ostatniej części artykułu zastosowaniu wskaźnika popytu hotelowego do regionalnej analizy benchmarkowej.
The article proposes a new indicator for the estimation of demand on the hotel market. This new indicator is synthetic in character and, in addition to the quantitative aspect (the number of overnight stays or number of hotel guests), it takes into account the qualitative structure of the offer of hotel beds and their occupancy rate (the effectiveness aspect). The author presents output data characterizing the tourist accommodation market in Poland, prerequisites for building a multifactor synthetic indicator of demand, and the methodological premises thereof. On these grounds indicator values are calculated from empirical data collected by the Central Statistical Office of Poland in 2000-2011. The indicator values are then compiled on two levels: national and regional (according to voivodships). In these two planes the dynamics of changes on the Polish hotel market are shown. In the last part of the article, the hotel demand indicator is used as a tool in regional benchmark analysis.

Opis:
This study investigates an inventory model for deteriorating products with a price and stock-dependent demand pattern where the holding cost is a non-linear function of both time and stock level. Moreover, a decreased price and a higher stock level lead to a higher rate of demand. Consequently, in this article, we present a new approach, aiming at maximization of the return on investment by maximizing the profit/cost ratio. If an inventory manager has the potential to invest in a variety of projects, but disposes of only limited resources, it is logical to strategically plan towards a better return on investment. As a result, the manager’s objective will be to develop an inventory policy with a possibly high return on investment. Therefore, a new strategy is considered in this article to optimize the profitability ratio in terms of replenishment time and selling price, which is determined as the proportion between the profit and the overall cost of the inventory scheme. This research demonstrates that optimizing the profitability ratio is equivalent to decreasing the average inventory cost of a product per unit. Also, the optimality is graphically checked and one numerical illustration is discussed to explain the result of the proposed model. Finally, sensitivity analysis of key parameters is performed to show the applicability of the proposed model. The profit/cost ratio is more sensitive to price elasticity markup or purchasing cost compared to the other parameters used. Also, for decision-makers, several helpful management insights are derived.

Wastewater from the confectionery industry is characterized by daily and seasonal variability of composition and quantity which adversely affects the process of their disposal. Confectionery plants discharge about 300-500 m3 per month of technological wastewater. Sewage from the confectionery industry belongs to biologically degradable. It is characterized by high values of chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biological oxygen demand (BOD). The article reviews various methods used to treat wastewater from the confectionery industry. Attention was paid to the applicability of a particular method, its advantages and disadvantages and the costs of implementation. The technology of industrial wastewater treatment uses both mechanical and physicochemical methods as well as biological ones. Techniques of sewage treatment usually consist of several stages which use different processes. Low-cost materials such as natural minerals, agricultural waste, industrial waste, biosorbents, and others contribute to the improvement of aerobic sewage conditions. The main weakness of typical sewage treatment plants is their large area, high investment, and exploitation costs. Therefore, a good solution may be the use of the membrane biological reactor which combines the classical technique of activated sludge and filtration on micro-filtering membranes.
