    The aim of the article is to free the pedagogical monograph method from the limitations imposed on it in the mid-20th century. Descriptions of this research method will be related to the specificity of the context and the needs it was supposed to satisfy at the time. Changes in the socio-economic and technological context will justify the removal of the existing limitations from the pedagogical monograph. As a result of this analysis, I propose ways to use this research method in contemporary pedagogy.

    This essay aims to interconnect the aspects of canon, cultural musicology, music and language with the systematic category of dispositif. In a short overview on the disciplinary canon debate, the essay describes the idea of a musical canon and questions its methodological status in musicology. The conclusion is that (aesthetic) value judgements are to be rejected as scientific (consequently rational or intersubjectively reasonable) selection criteria. The second argument draws on Lawrence Kramer’s notion of “constructive description”, which addresses the relation of music and language and helps in understanding the canon as a specific historical agency of different overlapping discourses. In order to outline an integrative ontology for the epistemological interest of cultural musicology, the last section synthesises these arguments in the Foucauldian idea of dispositif.

    Opis:
    The aim of the text is to present the potential of Foucault’s concept of dispositive for interpreting the space of a child’s room. I look for arguments in favor of this proposal in the concepts of the place by M. Eliade, P. Ricoer, and Yi-Fu Tuan, who combine creating a place with the process of constructing human identity. In reference to them, I assume that a child can create his own identity only if he has a chance to transform the space available to him. The analysis of the history of children’s room shows, however, that his space has always been created as a result of adults’ practices aimed at educational goals. Thus, the children’s room can be treated as dispositif, serving the governmentality of child.

    Opis:
    Michel Foucault introduced the notion of dispositif of sexuality in The Will to Knowledge (1976). Soon afterwards he took part in a discussion organized by a French magazine 'Ornicar?' during which he was asked to explain synthetically his concept of dispositif. Over the next decades this short, and rather forced utterance was translated into German and English. These translations differ from each other not only with regard to their solutions how to substitute a French term dispositif with another word - accordingly German or English - but also because of a variety of details that are meaningful for the profiles of dispositif analysis and based on Foucault's thought postulated in research. This theoretical and methodological perspective has being developed since Foucault's death in 1984, especially since the 1990's. One can indicate numerous and significant differences between the German- and English-language dispositif analysis, as well as between both of them and the Foucault's original concept. There is a need to question if the researchers who identify dispositif with a social network or with a material infrastructure of discourse (inter alia communication technology and social practices mediated through this technology) still follow Foucault's concept of power-knowledge to which they refer so willingly? This problem seems to be notably important at present - when more and more researchers in Poland show their interest in dispositif's concept. Therefore, a demand to translate its key terms into Polish emerges. In this article the dilemmas of Polish and other translations are presented on samples of several Foucault's utterance in 'Ornicar?' translations and fragments of contemporary texts from the field of German- and English-language dispositif's analysis.

    In my paper I will argue that the development and the need of support of development (also in Rousseau sense) takes a strategic position in the contemporary power relations. The pedagogical thinking built on the need/demand of support of development can justify the mechanisms of power in a legal scheme, and consequently, to justify them in terms of natural human right. My paper assumes the following order: Firstly, pay attention to the specifics of contemporary power relations. Secondly, problematize the need of support the development and show how educational dispositif works. Thirdly, I ask about the emancipatory potential of Rousseau’s pedagogical ideas.

    Post-Foucauldian discourse and dispositif analysis, a methodological approach inspired by the work of Michel Foucault and developed in Western Europe, over the last decade has gained an increasing amount of attention from Eastern European researchers. Yet, this interest has not been accompanied by sufficient reflection on the post-Foucauldian perspective’s adequacy for studying power, governance, and subjectification in post-socialist societies. In particular, there is little criticism that would take into account the current discussion on Foucault’s ambivalent attitude towards neoliberalism. The goal of this article is to examine this line of criticism of Foucault’s late works and to point to its importance for dispositif analysis carried out in Eastern and Central European societies (e.g., Poland) in comparison to analyses carried out in Western Europe (e.g., Germany). I propose a number of methodological recommendations that aim at adapting post-Foucauldian research instruments to facilitate analyzing power relations in the post-socialist context; these include: an interdisciplinary combination of discourse analysis and an analysis of macroeconomic and macrosocial factors; an analysis of the practices of normalization in post-socialist societies with reference to the Center-Periphery relationship; introducing elements of semiology, anthropology of the contemporary and cultural identity analysis to dispositif analysis.

    The article argues for a new agenda in qualitative research and sociology of knowledge. It starts with the assumption that meaning-making activities which lie at the heart of sociology’s interpretative paradigm today are widely embedded in expert proceedings and organized or institutionalized work on symbolic ordering. This holds true for the sciences or other specialized discourse realms (like religion), but it also counts for public discourses/public arenas. While interpretative traditions in sociology have addressed issues of discourse research, they did not succeed in establishing a proper sociological approach to discourse. Therefore, the article proposes a sociology of knowledge approach to discourse (SKAD), located in the social constructivist tradition of Peter L. Berger and Thomas Luckmann. Such an approach is able to account for discourses as processes of symbolic ordering and to take up questions of discourse research raised by French philosopher Michel Foucault. Foucault indeed insisted on discourses as “truth games” and activities which set up knowledge claims. But, this interest in politics of knowledge has not so far been taken up in today’s arenas of discourse research. Therefore, SKAD proposes concepts and procedures for a new agenda of sociology of knowledge, deeply committed to qualitative and interpretative research traditions in sociology.

    The article discusses uses of dispositif analysis inspired by Michel Foucault’s late works, in a context different from the original one. The author presents the main methodological assumptions of dispositif analysis and the factors which result in its critical and interdisciplinary potential not being fully exploited at present. Based on a literature review of dispositif analysis in post-socialist Eastern Europe, the author formulates an interdisciplinary research program aimed at adapting this approach to the study of East European power networks, taking into account both its different historical, cultural, and geopolitical context – compared to the one of West European countries – and Foucault’s conception of neoliberalism. Methodological recommendations are presented in two research areas: 1) labor in the Polish post-transformation society; and 2) reactions to pedophilia in the Polish Catholic Church.
    Artykuł dotyczy zastosowań analizy dyspozytywu, inspirowanej przez późne prace Michela Foucaulta, w innym kontekście niż oryginalny. Autorka prezentuje główne założenia metodologiczne analizy dyspozytywu oraz czynniki, które blokują pełne wykorzystanie jej krytycznego i interdyscyplinarnego potencjału. Na podstawie przeglądu dorobku analizy dyspozytywu w postsocjalistycznej Europie Wschodniej autorka formułuje propozycję interdyscyplinarnego programu badawczego. Jego celem jest zaadaptowanie tego podejścia do badań wschodnioeuropejskich siatek władzy przy uwzględnieniu zarówno innego kontekstu historycznego, kulturowego i geopolitycznego niż w krajach Europy Zachodniej, jak i specyficznego postrzegania neoliberalizmu u Foucaulta. Rekomendacje metodologiczne są przedstawione na przykładzie dwóch obszarów badań: 1) pracy w polskim społeczeństwie potransformacyjnym i 2) reakcji na pedofilię w polskim Kościele katolickim.

    Dominika Staszenko, Marcin M. Chojnacki Is it Still Art or Already Game? The Penetration of Aesthetics and Mechanics of Video Games to Interactive Art In our article, we look at the work inspired by the medium, and the culture of video games. We analyze the specifics of contact with the electronic entertainment in a completely new context as considered by the producers of games. We make a brief characterization of the selected projects in the area of interactive art, aesthetics, mechanics or iconography drawn from the popular digital games. We also analyze interesting analog representations and solutions connected with certain ludic or thematic video games in the context of practices affecting the perception of the medium, as well as assessing its ‘maturity’ and the impact on today’s pop culture. We concentrate on the issue of tangible and intangible disposits which we consider significant in the context of art inspired by new media.

    At the present stage of the reception of Foucault’s ideas, various theoretical and methodological trends coexist, within which the concepts of Michel Foucault are used fruitfully in empirical research. One of them is discourse studies understood as an inter- and transdisciplinary research area. This article distinguishes and describes three post-Foucauldian strategies of discourse analysis, the combined use of which in one research project is a proposal to integrate concepts scattered in Foucault’s various works. The strategies distinguished (archaeological, alethurgical, and dispositif) are characterized by the different analytical categories, understanding of discourse, and its relations with knowledge and power. The article presents selected results of the complementary use of concepts such as knowledge formation, alethurgy, confession, or the dispositif in the empirical research on the reform of higher education in Poland.

    Celem artykułu jest ukazanie perspektywy badania relacji między uniwersytetem a szeroko rozumianym obszarem praktyki w kategoriach konsumpcjonizmu poznawczego, który jest jednocześnie problemem i rozwiązaniem pochodzącym z wnętrza tzw. dyspozytywu społeczeństwa wiedzy. Rozwijam pojęcie dyspozytywu społeczeństwa wiedzy, zaproponowane przez Marka Czyżewskiego, wskazując nowe kategorie analityczne. Uzasadniam heurystyczny i analityczny potencjał badania uniwersytetu, konsumpcji wiedzy naukowej oraz wytwarzania jej „użyteczności” przez pryzmat mechanizmów prawa, dyscypliny i bezpieczeństwa. Istotną część artykułu stanowi refleksja nad imperatywem społeczeństwa wiedzy w warunkach konkurencji rynkowej.
    The aim of the article is to present the perspective of the study on the relationship between the university and the wider area of practice in terms of cognitive consumerism, which is both the problem and the solution coming from the interior of the so-called dispositif of knowledge society. I develop the concept of dispositif of knowledge society, proposed by Marek Czyżewski, indicating new analytical categories. I justify heuristic and analytical potential of the research on university, the consumption of scientific knowledge and the production of its “utility” through the prism of law mechanisms, discipline and safety. An important part of the article is a reflection on the imperative of the knowledge society in a competitive market.

    Opis:
    Experiments in the field of dance in the second half of the 20th century resulted in an expansion of the notion of choreography. Nowadays choreography, as a cluster of various practices developing on the verge of the arts, does not to have to be understood exclusively as composing the movement of bodies or the notation of dance. Choreographic tools are being used to produce relationships between heterogeneous elements in structures organising time and space as well as to inquire into their dynamics and intensities. Choreography enables us to think critically about corporeality, subjectivity, performativity and the conditions of art production. It can be understood as a sensual analysis on the intersection of what is intimate, social, political and aesthetic. This text revolves around the notion of choreography as a social and artistic practice in the realm of museum strategies and exhibition making. The exhibition Frames of Reference. Choreography in the Museum curated by Katarzyna Słoboda and Mateusz Szymanówka focused on choreographic practices and the presentation modes of performative actions in collaboration with a group of Polish choreographers (Alex Baczyński-Jenkins, Przemek Kamiński, Ramona Nagabczyńska, Anna Nowicka, Magdalena Ptasznik, Agata Siniarska, Iza Szostak, Kasia Wolińska, Marta Ziółek). The artists were invited to temporarily use the first floor of the Museum Sztuki on Więckowskiego Street in Lodz as a space for rehearsals and research. During their stay in the museum, during regular opening hours, they returned to concepts and strategies present in their previous works, looking for ways to open up their practice to visitors. In the second half of April they moved out from the exhibition space, leaving behind scores, objects, documents and situations to be experienced by the museum visitors until the closing date of the exhibition.

    Celem artykułu jest analiza „mitu pochodzenia” współczesnego dyskursu kreatywności i ujawnienie jego skonstruowanego charakteru. Sceptyczne spojrzenie na pozornie linearną transformację popularnej idei ujawnia nie tylko nieciągłość i liczne pęknięcia w procesie zmiany sposobów rozumienia pojęcia, ale także niezamierzone funkcje współczesnych objaśnień genezy kreatywności. Analiza sposobów tematyzowania kreatywności w dyskursie religijnym, artystycznym, filozoficznym i naukowym służy odpowiedzi na pytanie, w jaki sposób kreatywność stała się współcześnie filarem narracji modernizacyjnej wiązanej z kategoriami innowacji, przemysłów kreatywnych, ekonomii kultury czy tworzeniem „kreatywnych miast”.
    The aim of the article is to analyse the “myth of origin” of the contemporary discourse of creativity and to reveal its constructed character. A sceptical look at the seemingly linear transformation of a popular idea reveals not only discontinuity and numerous ruptures in the process of changing the ways of understanding the concept, but also the unintended functions of contemporary explanations of the genesis of creativity. Analysis of ways of thematizing creativity in religious, artistic, philosophical and scientific discourse serves to answer the question, how creativity has become a core of the modernization narrative tied with the categories of innovation, creative industries, cultural economics and creative cities.

    Artykuł podejmuje aktualny społecznie problem wpisania kultury w nowy prawomocny dyskurs rozwojowy, w ramach którego wyobrażenie o służebnej względem gospodarki roli kultury i unieważnienie myślenia o niej jako źródle krytyki społecznej zyskało sankcję nowej pozornej oczywistości. W ramach tego dyskursu różni społeczni aktorzy przekonują, że „kultura się liczy”, jest napędem zmiany, czynnikiem wzrostu gospodarczego, szansą na modyfikację struktury zatrudnienia oraz źródłem osobistej nagrody dla wszystkich, którzy budują współczesną gospodarkę. Prezentowane stanowisko wyrasta z przekonania, że w dotychczasowych badaniach społecznych i humanistycznych brakuje zainteresowania kulturą jako ważnym składnikiem dyskursu modernizacyjnego, a jego elementy oraz niejawne i nieoczywiste ideologiczne odniesienia rzadko poddawane są krytycznej analizie. Dotyczy to zarówno całościowych przemian tego dyskursu, jak i procesu jego lokowania w rzeczywistości społecznej. Autor przekonuje, że obecną we współczesnym dyskursie modernizacyjnym instrumentalizację kultury rozpatrywać można jako element względnie nowej, subtelnej formy panowania, a rozpoznanie i próba opisu tych nieoczywistych form władzy jawi się jako ważne poznawczo zadanie badawcze.
    This paper addresses the socially relevant problem of inscribing culture into the new valid development discourse, in which the idea of culture taking a subservient role in relation to the economy and the abandonment of thinking about it as a source of social criticism became sanctioned as a new apparent obvious. As part of this discourse, various societal actors argue that “culture matters”, that culture is a driver of change and economic growth, a chance to modify the structure of employment and a source of personal reward for all those who help build the modern economy. This stance stems from the belief that social studies and humanities have to date shown little interest in culture as an important component of the modernization discourse and its elements, as well as the fact that implicit and ambiguous ideological references are rarely subjected to critical analysis. This applies to both the overall transformation of that discourse as well as the process of its placement within the social reality. The author argues that the instrumentalization present in the contemporary discourse concerning the modernization of culture may be viewed as an element of a relatively new and subtle form of domination, and an important research task is to recognize and attempt to describe these less obvious forms of power.

    Cet article propose d’analyser la manière dont Marivaux, dans La Vie de Marianne, joue à « faire vrai » en déployant un ensemble de procédés rhétoriques et narratifs : de la vieille ficelle du manuscrit retrouvé par hasard à l’appel de prestigieux témoins prêts à garantir l’authenticité d’un épisode, tous les moyens sont bons pour produire l’effet de véridicité attendu du lecteur. Cependant, dans un mouvement inverse, Marivaux viole constamment le pacte de lecture qu’il a institué : le lecteur ne peut manquer de s’interroger sur la composition de ce qu’il lit et de s’apercevoir que le texte exhibe trop de négligences pour qu’il lui soit encore permis de croire à la réalité des faits qui lui sont racontés. La fiction se met ainsi en scène et souligne les procédés qui forcent le lecteur à s’interroger sur sa propre crédulité. Nous analyserons ici les conséquences de ce double mouvement et nous proposerons quelques hypothèses théoriques pour rendre compte de cette poétique paradoxale du jeu chez Marivaux.
    This paper examines the way in which Marivaux, in The Life of Marianne, plays at “making it true” by deploying a set of rhetorical and narrative devices: from the old trick of themanuscript found by chance to the call of prestigious witnesses ready to guarantee the authenticity of the episode, all means are good to produce the effect of veracity expected by the reader. However, in an opposite movement, Marivaux constantly violates the reading pact which he instituted: the reader ends up wondering about the composition of what he reads and realizes that the text exhibits too much negligence for the story to be true. Fiction is thus staged, and Marivaux underlines the processes which force the reader to question his own credulity. This paper examines the consequences of this double movement and offers a few theoretical hypotheses to account for this paradoxical poetics of play.
