Opis:
In this work we present magnetic properties of the $(Fe_{80}Nb_6B_{14})_{1-x}M_x$ (where M = Ni, Ag, Gd, Tb and x = 0.08, 0.16, 0.32) bulk nanocrystalline alloys prepared by making use of mould casting technique. The applied preparation technique is favorable to nanocrystallization of the alloys with mean diameters of crystallites ranged from about 10 nm to 30 nm. Phase identification reveals a formation of ternary $RE_2Fe_{14}B$ and binary $REFe_2$ phases dependently on the alloy composition. It was found that for the alloys with Ag addition magnetic moment of Fe atom increases from 2.26 $μ_{B}$ to 3.36 $μ_{B}$ for x = 0.08 and x = 0.32, respectively. For Ni addition this quantity decreases with increasing x due to appearing of Fe-Ni (fcc) phases. For Gd, Tb additions the alloys are ferrimagnetic with compensation composition ranged between x = 0.08 and x = 0.16. The both rare earth alloying additions cause a significant magnetic hardening especially in the case of Tb.

The paper refers to computer simulations of interactions between magnetically hard particle embedded into ultra-hard matrix. We used simulated annealing and Monte Carlo simulations in a frame of the 3D Heisenberg model. The performed simulations reveal that the particles show additional exchange anisotropy dependent on "frozen" spin direction in the matrix and the angle between matrix and particle easy magnetization axes. The particle-matrix coupling are responsible for multi-phase magnetic hysteresis shape and exchange-bias like effect.

We studied magnetic properties of perovskite-type Y$\text{}_{0.33}$Sr$\text{}_{0.67}$ CoO$\text{}_{2.614}$ and Y$\text{}_{0.33}$Sr$\text{}_{0.67}$CoO$\text{}_{2.707}$ prepared under different sintered temperatures at 1250ºC and 1100ºC, respectively. A dc magnetization jump associated with a large thermal hysteresis around 180 K was found in Y$\text{}_{0.33}$Sr$\text{}_{0.67}$CoO$\text{}_{2.614}$, which indicates a kind of magnetic memory effect. On the other hand, Y$\text{}_{0.33}$Sr$\text{}_{0.67}$CoO$\text{}_{2.707}$ shows a larger magnetization with a small magnetization jump around 200 K and lower Curie temperature than those of Y$\text{}_{0.33}$Sr$\text{}_{0.67}$CoO$\text{}_{2.614}$. Rich Co$\text{}^{3+}$ ions in the low temperature sintered Y$\text{}_{0.33}$Sr$\text{}_{0.67}$CoO$\text{}_{2.707}$ possibly introduce large magnetization and high magnetization jump temperature. This may be coming from a surface/volume effect of Co$\text{}^{3+}$ ions appearing in the polycrystalline sample prepared at low temperature. The ferromagnetism resulted from the different surface/volume ratio contributes to a part of magnetization and may result in the change of the Curie temperature.

The objective of this study was to analyze the results obtained from tests done by simulating the crash landing of a rotary wing unmanned air vehicle with a skid type landing gear. The experimental and computational methods were used in the simulation tests. In the first portion of the test; namely with the experimental method, the impact loads induced by the simulated crash landing and the stresses, strains, deformations generated by these loads, were recorded by drop test apparatus. In the second portion of the test with the computational method, free falling of the skid type landing gear was modeled and crash landing test was simulated numerically by using ANSYS code. Experimental methods were applied on four skid landing gear specimens with different shapes. Each of the test samples used in the following test was evolved because each sample was developed and redesigned based on the feedback results obtained from the former test. The first three test specimens were manufactured from 2024 T3, 7075 T6 and 6061 T6 aluminum alloys respectively and all of them were curved in Π-form with a solid cross section. The last and fourth specimen was also manufactured from 6061 T6 aluminum alloy and it was curved in a hollow semi-circle form (∩-form). It is concluded that the last and fourth developed specimen was the best in absorbing the impact energy and enduring the crash.

Various scholars of ethics and economics conduct research on the best modes of decision making which guarantee good outcome and moral behaviour of the individuals involved. Either of the modes considered, rules with regulations or discretion and judgment, find applicability in diversified professional circumstances. The paper investigates how discretion can be used in professional activity by using the Aristotelic-Thomistic framework. Results indicate that such a framework can be used by engineers in their working environments and by other working professionals with the main proposition that only in discretionary decision making is the person able to take full responsibility for the outcomes and to premeditate their moral worth in conscience before resolving to commit the act itself.

Both surfaces of a commercial float glass were treated simultaneously by a low-temperature argon plasma generated by an inductively coupled rf power supply. The effect of plasma processing on the outer surface composition of both sides of the glass was analysed by means of the ion scattering spectroscopy technique. The observed recomposition of the outer surface atoms was interpreted as a result of the action of the thermal and electric fields created by the plasma on particular glass constituents.

The purification and functionalization of commercial multiwall carbon nanotubes was investigated. Carbon nanotubes (CNT CO., Ltd, Korea) were treated with boiling concentrated HNO_3 under a reflux condenser for about 50 h at 120°C in order to purify and oxidize the raw material. The oxidized multiwall carbon nanotubes were rinsed with deionized water until stabilization of the filtrate pH. Measurement techniques included elemental analysis (CHN), scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectrometer, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermal analysis. With the measurement techniques used the following information was obtained: CHN analysis provided information about the quantitative composition of the following elements carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, scanning electron microscopy imaging provided information on shape, thickness and length of the nanotubes, energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry analysis of information about surface atomic composition of the quantitative analysis, inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry quantitative analysis of the atomic composition (metals, especially Fe, Al), the Fourier transform infrared studies provided information about qualitative analysis of surface functional groups $C_{x}O_{y}H_{z}$ (COOH, OH, COO) and thermal gravimetric-differential thermal analysis - quantitative analysis of thermal decomposition products. It was found that oxidation leads to the removal of amorphous carbon and forms mainly carboxylic functional groups linked to the nanotubes. The Fourier transform infrared spectra indicate the presence of some other structures, like ketone (quinone), acid anhydride, ether and epoxy groups. Nitric acid treatment also effectively removes aluminum oxide catalyst and iron catalyst from commercial multiwall carbon nanotubes.

Different techniques of surface treatment are employed to modify the physical properties of aluminum surfaces. Experimental data report measurements of water wetting ability in aluminum surfaces treated with six different techniques: polishing, sanding, acid attach, laser ablation, ion implantation and nanoparticle deposition. Surfaces can be modified as a function of the different treatment parameters. Treatment duration, roughness and morphology play an important role in determining the properties from hydrophobic to hydrophilic behavior.

In this study, the effects of perlite addition on mechanical properties and wear resistance of alumina ceramics were investigated. Alumina powders including perlite 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and perlite free were prepared. These powders were shaped as rectangular by using uniaxial pressing system under the load of 100 MPa. The samples were sintered at 1400°C-1550C for 2 h and were subjected to some mechanical tests such as hardness and fracture toughness. X-ray diffraction analysis was employed to determine the crystalline phases. Bulk densities of the samples were measured. In addition, erosive wear test was performed to investigate the erosive wear resistance of the samples. The wear test results were presented depending on different sliding speed and sintering temperature. These results showed that perlite addition has a positive effect on erosive wear resistance of the alumina ceramics, generally.

A nonferroelectric high permittivity compound with the perovskite structure, $Bi_{2//3}Cu_3Ti_4O_{12}$, was synthesized at 900°C. The ceramic powder and appropriate organic additives were used for preparation of a slurry for tape casting. The obtained green tapes were smooth, flexible, and with a uniform thickness of 25 μm after drying at 50°C. Ag electrodes were screen printed on green rectangular sheets cut by a laser. Subsequent operations were screen printing of Ag internal electrodes, stacking of green sheets, isostatic lamination, cutting, deposition of external terminations and co-firing of dielectric and conductive layers at 850°C. Scanning electron microscopy observations showed well sintered, dense, fine-grained microstructure of ceramic layers and good cooperation with the electrodes made of commercial Ag paste. Capacitance and dissipation factor of multilayer capacitors were examined in the temperature range from - 55 to 330C at frequencies 10 Hz-2 MHz. The fabricated multilayer capacitors exhibit high capacitance and relatively low temperature coefficient of capacitance in the temperature range from - 55 to 110°C. The obtained lead-free high permittivity nonferroelectric material $Bi_{2//3}Cu_3Ti_4O_{12}$ is a spontaneously formed internal barrier capacitor. This material seems to be a promising alternative for conventional lead-based relaxor dielectrics in multilayer ceramic capacitors.

A new perovskite material $Nd_{2//3}CuTa_4O_{12}$ was applied as a naturally formed internal barrier layer capacitor. The powder prepared by solid state synthesis and ball milling was pressed into pellets and sintered at 1180-1220°C. Dielectric properties of ceramic samples were characterized by impedance spectroscopic studies carried out in the temperature range from - 55 to 700C at frequencies 10 Hz ÷ 2 MHz. Two types of the dielectric response were revealed - a high frequency response attributed to grains which occurred at low temperatures, and a low frequency one related to grain boundaries which dominated at higher temperatures. Resistances and capacitances of grains were found to be two orders lower than those of grain boundaries. Two plateaus were observed in the dielectric permittivity versus frequency plots - a low frequency step corresponding to a high value of $10^4$ and a high frequency step at a level of 40. Scanning electron microscopy observations and energy dispersive spectroscopy analysis confirmed that $Nd_{2//3}CuTa_4O_{12}$ ceramics were composed of semiconducting grains and insulating oxygen-enriched grain boundaries. The formation of such an electrically heterogeneous system during the one step fabrication process in air leads to spontaneous internal barrier layer capacitance effects responsible for a high and relatively stable dielectric permittivity of the developed material.

Soft magnetic composite was prepared by coating the commercial FeSi powder by $Mn_{0.8}Zn_{0.2}Fe_2O_4$ (MnZn) ferrite, which serves as a potential dielectric phase. MnZn ferrite was prepared by the sol-gel method followed by the auto-self combustion process. The spinel structure of MnZn ferrite was analyzed by X-ray diffraction technique. The composite material was prepared by uniaxial compaction technique and sintered either by conventional or unconventional microwave method. The microwave sintering was applied in order to reduce a grain growth and decrease the overall sintering time. The microstructure of FeSi powder is formed by grains of different diameter. Magnetic force microscopy and scanning electron microscopy were used for an investigation of the correlation between the grain size, grain boundaries and magnetic domains. Magnetic force microscopy visualization of magnetic domains in the prepared soft magnetic composite brings insight into how the magnetically active coating (MnZn ferrite) influences the soft magnetic (FeSi) powder under the influence of the external magnetic field.

The defect build-up, structure recovery and lattice location of transition metals in ion bombarded and thermally annealed ZnO and GaN single crystals were studied by channeled Rutherford backscattering spectrometry and channeled particle-induced X-ray emission measurements using 1.57 MeV ⁴He ions. Ion implantation to a fluence of 1.2×10¹⁶ ions/cm² was performed using 120 keV Co and 120 keV Mn ions. Thermal annealing was performed at 800°C in argon flow. Damage distributions were determined using the Monte Carlo McChasy simulation code. The simulations of channeled Rutherford backscattering spectra reveal that the ion implantation leads to formation of two types of defect structures in ZnO and GaN such as point and extended defects, such as dislocations. The concentrations of both types of defects are at a comparable level in both structures and for both implanted ions. Differences between both implantations appear after thermal annealing where the Mn-doped ZnO reveals much better transition metals substitution and recovery effect.
