Opis:
Borders within borders: A new regionalism in contemporary Croatian literatureThe article is an attempt at a synthetic presentation of Croatian literature researchers’ reflection about regionalism in the twentieth and the beginning of the twenty-first century. The author observes that there is a tendency to see Croatian literature as one that produces two different models of texts in terms of poetics and philosophy – the northern, which is “Central European,” and the southern, which is “Mediterranean.” She then examines the coherence of the “ideal types” delineated by researches according to the themes and literary devices utilised, based on two short stories from 2006, by writers one of whom is from the northern and the other – from the southern part of the country.

The paper investigates the representation of oral literature in reading literary works of subject teaching by Croatian authors, which are prescribed by the Curriculum for primary school and which interfere with oral literature. Interferences were singled out on the basis of structure, theme and motives, characters, language game, homeland, oral literary forms, etc. It is realized that oral literature is quite represented, and that interferences mostly took place on the basis of homeland and patriotism, motives and oral literary forms. The research proved that the elements of oral literature are firmly and deeply inserted in the reading works of Croatian authors and that in no case should they be considered peripheral elements as was the case for a long time on the Croatian literary scene when oral literature was systematically neglected.

The purpose of this paper is to study perceptions of India in three literary works, from the 20th and 21st century. The first part looks into the tenets of postcolonial theory and literary imagology as a possible methodological framework. Subsequently, premodern perceptions of India in the Croatian literary and cultural space are summarised. The central analysis focuses on the historical novelJaša Dalmatin (Jaša Dalmatin, Viceroy of Gujarat) by Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić, the travelogue U potrazi za staklenim gradom (In Search of the Glass City) by Željko Malnar and Borna Bebek, and the short story Indija (India) by Bekim Sejranović. The analysis demonstrates that each of these writings reconstructs premodern perceptions to some extent, but primarily introduces new perceptions that are linked to the specific social, cultural and ideological context in which these works were written. This indicates that literary perceptions are at the same time always acts of literary fiction as well as a socially and culturally construed production of meaning.

Opis:
In the novel entitled The Better Half of Courage, Ivan Slamnig elaborates on two types of narrative namely, a traditional internal story derived from the poetics of realism and a postmodern frame story streaked with the elements of the jeans prose. In the article, culinary motifs presented in both narratives are taken into consideration in order to expose their function in Slamnig’s novel. The article also tries to answer the question whether the dietary code is subordinated to the both forms of discourse. The analysis of the culinary themes reveals a process of braking off with tradition in the so-called traditional narrative, and attempts of retaining tradition in the postmodern narrative. In consequence, an apparently traditional modern pilgrim, who does not respect the order of traditional rituals and remains cautious in his consumption behaviour, turns out to be condemned to painful results of his choices while a postmodern vagrant as an unfulfilled consumer-glutton keeps drawing from tradition as well as from the present day what provides him with various pleasures. Furthermore, the analysis of the culinary code of the novel allows the authoress to confirm a thesis on the presence of postmodern effects in the both “parts” of the novel.

Opis:
Croatian speculative fiction in the last quarter of the century has been dominated by the city of Zagreb. There are three anthologies depicting the capital of Croatia and visions of its future: Zagreb 2004 (1995), Zagreb 2014 (1998) and Zagreb 2094 (2004). Also, in Croatian dystopian fiction, the popularity of which has grown rapidly since 2010, the city becomes a metaphor for the problem of exclusion and deep inequalities between the centre and the periphery. The changes in the literary image of Zagreb over the last twenty-five years illustrate not only the changing perception of an urban space and different ways of experiencing the city by writers, but also depict the evolution of speculative fiction in Croatia by distinguishing its most important elements: the growth of the importance of local motifs and places, as well as blurring the rigid genre boundaries and the evolution towards the so-called slipstream fiction. Thanks to the analysis of literary images of Zagreb, questions about the attitude of fantasy literature of that time towards the main contemporary issues can be raised. The article finally offers a possibility to define either the subversive or conciliatory character of fantasy works in the context of the most dominant ideologies of that time.

Opis:
In the second half of the 19th century, social development based on science, technological innovation, rationalism and capitalist economy presents itself as full of promise insofar as it proclaims the upcoming progress of civilization. The downside of this process is the increase in crime, massive neurosis, various forms of moral disorder, and the epidemics of somatic diseases such as tuberculosis and syphilis. Consequently, the perception of the new generation as degenerate is actually the way to articulate anxiety in the culture of the time. Croatian literature at the end of the 19th and at the beginning of the 20th century frequently refers to illness, bodies burdened by drives, and to sick, tense or perverted minds. The paper, therefore, reads tuberculosis as a metaphor for the discontent and fear that permeate the contemporary Croatian society due to, for instance, the failure of the traditional concept of identity, changed gender roles, frequent sexual transgressions, increased mortality and generally due to the inefficiency of modernization processes in solving numerous social problems and crises.

On the other hand, he is not the very often mentioned author the literary journal „Krugovi”, and also he is not considered in the first row of the most influential literary patterns for this generation of writers. However, Antun Gustav Matoš’s image that emerges from the pages of „Krugovi”, although incomplete and fragmentary, is extremely interesting. Young writers attempted to comprehensively educate their literary model reader, so they drew attention to artists who were the most valuable for the native literary tradition. Understanding and acknowledging the importance of his achievements and well-deserved place in the history of Croatian literature, young artists were able, however, to an analytical and critical approach, in the majority of cases presenting a solid argument, not limited to duplication of hackneyed slogans.

In the article one book written by the Croatian author, Ante Kesić, is taken into consideration. The novel Black Snow, published in 1957, narrates about a Slovenian young woman, Breda, who was caught by the Germans in Ljubljana (for her contacts with communist partisans) and sent to the Dachau Concentration Camp. Although not of Jewish origins she encounters the Holocaust of the Jews in the camp and gets pregnant with a Jewish artist. The novel conceptualizes tragedy of war and the Holocaust in a very experimental way, by using a range of modernist, avant-garde or even surrealist literary techniques. The author attempts to invent a new language with a new grammar that would enable to express something that is not expressible.

A literary text can become space for transformation of the reader. In some cases, through the impact of content and a specific form, reading becomes not only an intellectual experience based on the interpretation of the already read text, but the very act of reading is understood as an act of metamorphosis. In the article two Croatian literary works are discussed: a pastoral novel by Petar Zoranić written in the 16th century and lacrimae, an epic poem by Ivan Gundulić dating back to the 17th century. Both pieces are characterized by the use of genre conventions to show and cause the transformation of an individual. In the novel, the character experiences transformation from a young man overwhelmed by love fever into a conscious citizen-Patriot. In the epic poem, a sinner is affected by the act of repentance and tries to return to the path of God’s grace. Reading the text can become an act of transformation thanks to the use of narrative, which is conceived as a way to organize experience by a subject who identifies the literary hero’s metamorphosis with his/her own transformation in real time.

The family Bošković had a little figure of Infant Jesus named Bambin, beloved by all the people and famous by miracles. Anica Bošković wrote about Him many time: her deeply implanted devotion reflects in letters to her brother Ruđer, in her last will and in her poetic works, especially in Razgovor pastirski vrhu porođenja Gospodinova. Anica Bošković has conceived a preface to this work – letter dedicated to her brothers Ruđer and Baro, in which speaks about her inspirations and dreams. This work is a concept of construction of inner world of every woman who wants to love God more then other people.
The article gives a brief summary of Miljenko Jergović’s literary presence in Poland. It concentrates upon the writer’s poems, short stories, novels and essays hitherto translated into Polish and published in Poland. Additionally, jergović’s manifold connections with Poland are presented, starting with the history of his cooperation with Magdalena Petryńska, who translated all of his novels into Polish. This translator’s impact on the writer’s popularity in our country is underscored. Within this scope, the article concentrates on the Jergović’s “most Polish” work, a short novel entitled Wilimowski. Thanks to Petryńska’s efforts, the book was published in Polish in april 2016, which constituted the novel’s world premiere. The article concisely addresses and describes the circumstances of Wilimowski’s several editions, concurrently discussing motives behind the writer’s interest in Poland (among others, the novel’s protagonist — a Polish football player Ernest Wilimowski), and the book’s reception in Poland. Last but not least, Jergović’s writing technique is characterized along with leitmotifs of his literary works.

In the Croatian literature, which since the collapse of Yugoslavia has been dominated mainly by neo-realistic trends, over the past few years the rapid growth of popularity of dystopia – a genre which until now almost did not occur – can be observed. The means used in the work of fiction allow for representation of the present-day negative trends at the system level, without the need to present individual epiphenomena. Methodological tools, used for the analysis of the literature presented in this article, are provided by the postcolonial reflection, and the key operational tools used in the proposed interpretation of the Croatian dystopian fiction are categories of exclusion, subordination and authority, derived directly from the philosophy of Michel Foucault and the works of his continuator – Giorgio Agamben, as well as the issues connected to the relations and deep divisions between the center and the peripheries, the epistemic violence and the post-colonial discourse.

Her conception seems to be fertile when interpreting Lost Homeland by Slobodan Novak.

This paper deals with the contribution of Dušan Karpatský (1935—2017) to the reception of Croatian literature in the Czech Republic, and Czech literature in Croatia since the 1960s until the present day. In his numerous translations, Karpatský worked tirelessly to introduce Czech readers to the achievements of Croatian (and Yugoslav) literature, and vice versa. By selecting texts for his translations that were as current as possible, and by meeting high aesthetic criteria, made him influential in both cultural milieus where he played the role of an intermediary. His work in lexicography, bibliography, history of literature and non-fiction is also of great importance. His research has made Croatian culture permanently indebted to him because he discovered and translated into Croatian the Prague Papers, written in Czech by the Croatian politician Stjepan Radić, and because he discovered a seven-language dictionary written by the Prague Benedictine monk Peter Loderecker, which was based on a five-language dictionary written by Faust Vrančić. Owing to all of the above, and much more, Karpatský is considered a key figure in literary and cultural communication between Croatia and the Czech Republic in the last six decades.

The unequal import of (literary) translations of male and female authors from Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia in German will be critically examined in this article regarding the following three aspects: 1. The gender differences in the quantity of translations; 2. The selection strategies for the translation of female authors, especially in the period from 1992 to 2012 (which mostly covers the period of the Yugoslav wars); 3. The role of female actors in the translatory field. The answers to these questions will show whether in this period one could speak of the “gender translation gap”.

Opis:
The article is an attempt to show the novel Otok snova (Island of Dreams,1996) by Damir Miloš as an example of a dystopian text. The author portrays the presented world of the book, first, as a postmodern consumer space where the pursuit of attractions is a dominant human activity, second, she presents the same picture through the prism of hyperbolic deformation. In the novel the original idyll takes the contours of hell, as she suggests. However, the reflection does not finish in a defeatist way. The author indicates a possibility of transition from dystopia to micro-utopia, but only in the case of reading the novel in the context of other works written by Damir Miloš.

Paper deals with a conception of Antun Gustav Matoš authorship, regarding his own definition of his life as a work of art. Performing his authorship in a variety of literary texts, letters and notices, he lived in extremes, being flaneur, dandy and a bohem, world traveler and a nationalist ideologist, what influenced reception of his work until recent period. Critical and historiographic, as much as other literary works related to AGM follow this „author-centered” positions regarding his life as a work of art, as much as his literary texts as a reflection of his life. Latest Croatian „Matosiana” book, Dubravka Oraić Tolić̕ Reading Matoš (Čitanja Matoša, 2013), attests some traditional critical assumptions regarding authorship of this canonical writer end expands them in a new context. Different theories of literary canon formation, especially those grounded on feminist or psychoanalytical approach, call in question usual strategies in creation and understanding AGMs authorship, aestheticism and anti-modernism.

Opis:
Zoranić built the problem of geopolitical and real time and space in his highly complex literary work through the use of genre. The work is constructed based on of Sannazzaro’s Arcadia, inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphosesand Dante’s Inferno, with an epistemological framework dedicated to Matijević and written according to the style and philosophy of Petrarch and the national folklore of love poems. In addition, the importance of literaturein an existentially threatened community is strictly related to the dichotomy of the epistemology of the appraisal of poetry as present from the pre-Platonic epoch to Zoranić’s humanistic debates. Zoranić speaks in favour of the poet as a medium of God (poeta theologus). Just like his models (especially Petrarch and Dante as supporters of studia humanitatis) he relies on church authorities (Saint Jerome, Augustine, Cassiodorus and Saint Isidore of Seville). Therefore, the author manages to capture in this poetical and cultural context the personal issues presented in literature (in Petrarch’s pastoral themes) as well as community-related issues (paradise and an existentially threatened community). As a result of a journey through shepherds’ retreats, the area of deželji that is at the same time Arcadia, theAvenue des Champs-Élysées and Paradise Lost, transforms into a wasteland. The destroyed cities and strongholds along the Krka canyon (the locus horridus as a symbol of the seized bašćina [ fatherland]), down the river Krkafrom its source to the mouth (catharsis/ re-birth) are symbols of the young poet’s turning from personal literature (lyrical poetry) to serious anti-Ottoman literature, aimed at saving literature’s identity as well as the bašćinian. The description of the deserted land – a symbol of a historical martyr place – is a message about the community’s role as sacrificial lamb. The return to Nin (the pseudo-mythological oldest town in the bašćina) brings the search to an end, but as a return to the starting point of the individual and the community. Zoranić introduces an allegory to the end of Mountains (Planine): the farewell at the beautiful Jela’s grave in his native Nin is a literary farewell to Petrarch’s Donna, notwithstanding whether it is a girl or the poet’s mother. The author’s decision to deal with national issues is reflected in the shift from Jela’s grave to the celebration of the famous bašćinianina [grave] of Juraj Divnić.

The article based on the bibliography of translations of Croatian literature in Poland from 2007 to 2013 discusses the role of translators and editors in the crosscultural and interliterature communication. During that period several texts` compilations and anthologies of Croatian literature (mostly the latest) has been published in Poland. The mentioned books are the results of the Polish‑Croatian cooperation of writers, translators as well as researchers (e.g. [1] the selection of Miro Gavran’s works or [2] the project entitled "Kroatywni" that involved Croatian and Polish researchers) or, on the contrary, they are result of independent work of one translator (e.g. the anthology of Croatian poetry by G. Łatuszyński). Investigating diverse anthologies of Croatian literature printed in Poland and Croatia from 2007 till 2013 the question of the literary canon and the difference between the idea of the literature in the original and target culture are risen.

Opis:
This article summarizes and discusses the body of translations from Croatian literature published in Poland in 2018. The most significant offering to appear on the Polish market that year was a multilingual collection of mid-career poetry by Dorta Jagić entitled The Portrait of The Body, containing Croatian originals and their translations into Polish (by M. Wierzbicka) and English (by D. Šodan, M. Đurđević). “Synoptic” editions (bilingual or multilingual) allow the reader to view both the original and its translation, which has three major benefits: it contributes to a better circulation of texts; enables deziluzionist reading (the awareness of the difference between the original and the translation); and establishes an intertextual bond between the collected texts.

The article analyses two methods from the scholarly oeuvre of a great Polish Croatian and Slavic studies scholar Joanna Rapacka (1939–2000). These two methods are very interesting and in a particular manner topical, especially in Croatian philology: due to a reconstruction of historical poetics and research of sources, and because of a deconstruction of national myths and national essentialism in literary historiography. These two approaches are closely linked in an attempt to understand an older, pre-modern literary culture in its original, epochal context.

The introductory part of the article aims to briefly present the main ideas of ecocriticism, a relatively new theoretical approach to the study of literary texts, and also provide basic information about a special publishing project launched at the beginning of the 1990s byMladost publishing house—Eko Vjeverica ( Eco Squirrel ), a book series intended for children. After that, the focus of the analysis is shifted to one of the titles from the series, Zarobljenik šumske kuće ( Prisoner of the Forest House ), a collection of stories written by a Croatian author Anđelka Martić. The main research issues in this article, which are at the same time the basic guidelines of ecocritical approach in the analysis of literary works, relate to the study of fundamental ecological values implied by the word “nature”—what nature is in a given context, in which way nature is experienced and perceived by human characters and how that perception has changed over the years, and also how the world around us acquires meaning through textual representations of nature.

The article attempts to present selected prose works by Damir Miloš as an example of Croatian maritime literature and ecological writing. In the posthumanist view, the symbiosis of man and nature constitutes a postpastoral attempt to return to Arcadia. In Miloš’s prose, ecopoetics is manifested in J. F. Lyotard’s idea of “house-building” ( oikon and poesis ), which is currently also discussed by other researchers, in the harmony of the human and the world of nature, as well as in the perspective of pansociologism, according to which “everything is society,” and all existence means “entering into interactions,” and, lastly, in the optics of Bruno Latour’s hyperhumanism. The element of the sea ( its flora and fauna) in an ecocritical approach is characterised by liquidity, ambiguity as well as transgression and liminality ( between the world of nature and culture ). In addition to its causative elements, it can also communicate ( non-anthroponormative languages, post-koiné ).

Natural-scientific prose is characterized by a specific description of the natural world in which scientific information is fitted in the experience of nature and animal characters only partially or minimally anthropomorphized. The goal of this research is firstly to explore the presence and influence of foreign literary authors in the history of Croatian (childrenʼs) literature, who dedicated their literary work to this unique literary subgenre, such as a Danish journalist and writer Carl Ewald and an American-Canadian zoologist and literary author Ernest Thompson Seton. Furthermore, the aim of the paper was also to study the contribution of Croatian authors – Miroslav Hirtz, Zlatko Špoljar, Antica Juras-Ljubić and Vlatko Šarić – in this narrative form by methodologically relying on the insights of literary science and animal studies.

The subject of this article is an analysis of literary images of ghosts and monsters present in Croatian children’s literature, especially in the books of Dubravka Ugrešić and Stanislav Marijanović. Particular attention was paid to the aspect of otherness and strangeness. The presented research problem concerns mainly how the mentioned authors arouse children’s curiosity towards diversity, teach the acceptance of the fact of being different, intrigue, encourage reflection and disbelief in harmful stereotypes.

Literary creation in Bosnia-Herzegovina is very complex. Viewed as a whole and throughout its historical duration, it has not been realized within the framework of one nation or one ethno-national community, nor within only one language or only one alphabet, nor within the framework of only one cultural-civilizational circle. This fact and this kind of literary-historical and cultural-historical reality gives the basis from which it is now possible to talk about a unique, singular literature of Bosnia-Herzegovina, or Bosnian-Herzegovinian literature, and also about parallel, plural literatures of Bosnia-Herzegovina – Bosniak as well as Croat and Serbian literatures in Bosnia-Herzegovina, together with the literary traditions of Bosnian-Herzegovinian minority communities, such as the Jewish community and others. Also, it is possible to speak about a phenomenon that should – given its own, internal historical-developmental dynamics and its literary-developmental principles and relationships in general – probably be named the Bosnian-Herzegovinian interliterary community. That is why, in understanding the phenomenon of literary creativity in Bosnia-Herzegovina, as well in defi ning Bosnian literary studies, primarily the theoretical concepts of interliterariness as well as closely related concepts of interculturality occur as potential solutions, as – both of them – have their essential meaning and full realization in the cases of both literary and culturally complex phenomena like literature in Bosnia-Herzegovina in general.

Croatian history of literature – 20th century
Opis:
The Enlightenment in Croatia – the change of paradigm?: From impoverished monomyth to liberated polymyth The paper is an attempt at a synthetic presentation of the discourse that took place in twentieth-century literary studies on the idea of the Enlightenment in Croatia. The author recognizes the model of conservative and Catholic Enlightenment centered on the North of the country, which is constructed in these studies, as a variant that impoverishes the reality of the 18th century, and propounds (referring to the Otto Marquard’s idea about the necessity that all communities are rooted in many histories) to extend the reflection on the Enlightenment in Croatia also to its south Dalmatian and Dubrovnik variant. She proposes to study the Enlightenment in non-Western countries to a lesser extent through the prism of socio-political and economic determinants, and more by tracking mental history and cultural flows. Such a mental path allows redefining the Enlightenment in Croatia focusing on its cosmopolitanism and liberalization.

Archival research is of great importance for the study of old Croatian literature, as a large part of the body of literary texts has been preserved in manuscripts to the present day, and many of them are kept in archives. Although at its beginnings Croatian national philology was strongly focused on archival work, in the 20th century this kind of research was abandoned, despite the fact that there was still a lot of unanalyzed material left in the archives, as well as many possibilities for correction or supplementing previous conclusions. Thus the handwritten Kajkavian songbooks, especially the secular ones, have been only partially examined. In addition, some songbooks from the Croatian State Archives have never become an object of research. This article draws attention to the importance of fundamental archival research, without which it is impossible to properly draw a picture of the Kajkavian element of old Croatian literature.

The paper presents poetically and politically conditioned changes in the interpretationof the literature of the Croatian National Revival period as “Romantic”.It indicates that these phenomena should necessarily be viewed in mutual (inter)action. It states that the Croatian National Revival, as a period that is most frequently demarcated by the years 1835 and 1848–49 in the so-called general historiography, is a necessary framework for the periodisation and understanding of the history of Croatian literature too. This framework does not exclude the necessity of including the concept of Romanticism in the study of Croatian literature of this period, which was strongly influenced by Romantic trends. And consequently it is a stage in a longer period of manifestation of Romantic features in Croatian culture and literature of the 19th century.

The paper deals with the relationship between Antun Gustav Matoš and the most important people of the town’s cultural and political life at the turn of the 19th into 20th century. The relationship between Matoš and the town Đakovo is considered from two perspectives: the first being the perspective of Matoš, which is based on his two travel accounts and numerous writings about Đakovo, i.e. the Bishop of the Diocese of Đakovo, Josip Juraj Strossmayer; the second perspective is that of Đakovo-based writers and considers their attitudes towards Matoš, with a special regard to the Bishop Strossmayer. The relationship between Antun Gustav Matoš and the Bishop Strossmayer was complex, even though it was, seemingly paradoxical, one-sided. Strossmayer was in many, ways an extraordinarily important person for Matoš, who wrote many texts about Strossmayer, for Strossmayer however, Matoš was only one among many young Croatian writers who were asking him for help and wrote about him. Strossmayer refused to provide Matoš with patronage, therefore the aim of this paper is to establish the reasons behind that decision, and determine why Croatia’s most prominent patron could not, or refused to, acknowledge one of Croatia’s most important writers.

Paper focuses on a poem Mlad užežen u ljubavi, preserved in an early manuscript by Dubrovnikʼs merchant Miho Martellini, created before 1657. This is the most erotic začinka-poem of the 17th century, inspired by the so called cushion customs. The above mentioned poem is a part of a corpus created parallel with the official literary production, and its existence demonstrates the stratification of the 17th century literature, and marks the existence of thematically and stylistically pure folk literature, together with epics, epic poems, tragedies and tragicomedies. That sort of literature didnʼt have to change the readers, to instruct them in virtuous life, not even to give them some aesthetic pleasure. Its purpose was primarily entertainment.

Opis:
This article aims to present and describe the situation of the literary language of the Molise Slavs. In the last decades, various scholars have expressed their views on this issue with some of them claiming that Molise Slavic is a literary language, whilst by the other ones this vernacular was denied such right. Although Alexandr D. Dulichenko – who coined the term „Slavic literarymicrolanguage” – dated its literary traditions back to the 19th century, some scholars perceive the 18th or 20th centuries as the beginning of the literature written in Molise Slavic (MSl). Consequently, this led to ambiguity that this article is trying to clarify. Until recently, this vernacular was prevalently used for poetry and short prose, but with recent publications of Nicola Gliosca’s novels, Molise Slavic is now on its way to develop as a full-fledged literary language. According to typology presented by Antoni Furdal, MSl can now – with presence of translations – be classified as a „literary language with limited sphere of use”.

Hrvatska književnost — i kultura — u Poljskoj često stoga nose ponajprije odrednicu „balkanskog” i „postjugoslavenskog”. S druge strane, poljska književnost u hrvatskim prijevodima uglavnom se predstavlja reprezentativnim autorima, čiji se opus smatra kanonskim i u izvornoj kulturi. Ogledanje jedne kulture u drugoj donosi širu sliku predstavljanja Drugoga i otvara problem odnosa kulturne auto - i heteropredodžbe.
In this article, we have tried to draw an image of Croatian literature in Polish culture, as well as vice versa, in the last 25 years, based on bibliographies and articles on translations in PLS. It has been concluded that, due to translators’ choices of Croatian exile literature, works perceived in the source culture as non -canon, themes related to war, Yugonostalgia and authors whose work belong to the “borderline” of a few nations, Croatian literature in Poland exists as “Balkan” literature. On the other hand, choices of Polish literature in Croatia mainly concerns classic Polish authors. Both cases draw a wider picture of national imagery — a hetero -image — in the target culture.

The aim of the article is to show how the repertoire of translations of Polish literature for children and young people in Croatia and Serbia has changed over the last thirty years. The author presents the changes that have taken place on the book market in both countries, and then shows which books by Polish authors are of particular interest to local publishers and turning points in the history of Polish children's books in these two countries in the analyzed period. The attention was focused on the activities of small publishing houses, which can be called “Lilliputians” such as: Srednja Europa and Planet Zoe from Croatia, and Propolis Books and Kozikas from Serbia. The text shows what quantitative and qualitative changes took place with the appearance of the above-mentioned publishers, who focus on children's literature of small languages, rarely found on bookstores. The analysis of their activities was carried out on the basis of Itamar Even-Zohar's theory of cultural repertoire, during which it was proved that the role played by these publishers in the process of shaping and modifying the repertoire of translations of Polish literature for children in both countries can be identified with the role of idea-makers.

Opis:
The article attempts to discuss the status of Dubrovnik and its literary and cultural tradition in 19th- and 20th-century discourses in the frame of Serbian literary history. The starting point for the presented considerations will be the opinion of Jovan Deretić, who, perceiving the Dubrovnik tradition as “borderline”, referred to it as “a tradition of secondary importance” for the Serbian culture and literature system. In his opinion, it could not have become for the Serbs what it had become for Croatian literature, that is, “the central national tradition”. The text will discuss different points of view (both “internal” and “external”) on the “location” and importance of the city and its traditions in the context of ongoing discussions on the identity of Dubrovnik. The t exts of the n ineteenth-century authors (Đ. Nikolajević, I. Stojanović, L. Vojnović) and twentieth-century authors (J. Skerlić, P. Popović, M. Pantić) will be analyzed. The framework of the article will be determined by contemporary reflection on this subject (Z. Bojović, I. Arsić, S. Stipčević).
Artykuł podejmuje próbę omówienia statusu Dubrownika i jego tradycji literackiej i kulturowej w XIX- i XX-wiecznych dyskursach w obrębie serbskiej historii literatury. Nikolajević, I. Stojanović, L. Vojnović) i XX-wiecznych (J. Skerlić, P. Popović, M. Pantić). Ramy artykułu wyznacza współczesna refleksja na ten temat (Z. Bojović, I. Arsić, S. Stipčević).
