In this work, a numerical approach to analysis of dynamics of a hung rotor has been presented. A vertical rotor of the ACWW\,1000 centrifuge has been used as a real object for verification of the discussed model. This rotor, due to its constructional features, should show the gyroscopic effect in the range of achievable rotational speed.
W pracy przedstawiona została analiza dynamiki wirnika przewieszonego w ujęciu numerycznym. Obiektem rzeczywistym, który posłużył do weryfikacji zastosowanego modelu, był pionowy wirnik wirówki ACWW 1000, który z uwagi na cechy konstrukcyjne powinien wskazywać podatność na wpływ efektów żyroskopowych.

The article presents an analysis of two neo-Victorian Londons: that of Peter Ackroyd in the novel Dan Leno and the Limehouse Golem and that of Alan Moore and Eddie Campbell in the graphic novel From Hell. Particular attention has been given to the representation of the city in terms of the most characteristic elements of London and its mode of portrayal in each work. The article also presents how the British capital is personified or at least treated as a driving force behind human actions, as well as the subjectification of the city and its functioning as a text. Finally, the article focuses on the superposition of the late 19th and late 20th centuries, i.e. the times of action and writing of both works, and how relevant these texts are at the present time.
Artykuł zawiera analizę dwóch wizji neowiktoriańskiego Londynu: Petera Ackroyda w powieści pt. Golem z Limehouse oraz Alana Moora i Eddiego Campbella w powieści graficznej pt. Prosto z piekła. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono sposobom przedstawienia angielskiej stolicy i jej najbardziej charakterystycznych elementów. Ponadto, artykuł traktuje o uosobieniu miasta bądź jego traktowaniu jako siły napędowej ludzkich czynów, a także subiektywizacji miasta i traktowaniu go jako tekstu. Zwrócono również uwagę na superpozycję późnego wieku XIX z późnym wiekiem XX, tj. czasu akcji obu tekstów i czasu, w którym powstały, co stanowi punkt wyjścia do refleksji nad ich znaczeniem w drugiej dekadzie XXI wieku.

Recenzja książki Wyprawa bohatera w polskim filmie fabularnym (2014) Seweryna Kuśmierczyka. Autor szczegółowo omawia koncepcję analizy antropologiczno-morfologicznej wypracowanej przez badacza, zwracając uwagę na ważną rolę, jaką propozycja ta może odegrać we współczesnym filmoznawstwie. W tekstach poświęconych arcydziełom polskiego kina Kuśmierczyk przywraca wagę analizie filmowej, pokazuje, jak odczytywać bogate i często nieoczywiste znaczenia zawarte w audiowizualnej formie filmowej. Badacz nie poprzestaje na formalistycznym rozkładaniu dzieł na czynniki pierwsze, lecz także odnosi techniki filmowe do kategorii antropologicznych. Metoda zastosowana przez Kuśmierczyka może, zdaniem recenzenta, stać się punktem wyjścia do dalszych badań z pogranicza filmoznawstwa i kulturoznawstwa.
The text is a book review of Wyprawa bohatera w polskim filmie fabularnym [The Hero’s Expedition in Polish Feature Film] (2014) by Seweryn Kuśmierczyk. The author discusses in detail the idea of anthropological-morphological analysis proposed by the researcher, paying particular attention to the potential role of this concept in contemporary film studies. In the chapters devoted to masterpieces of Polish cinema Kuśmierczyk restores the importance of film analysis. He also shows how to read the rich and often less than obvious meanings contained in the audio-visual film form. The researcher does not stop at formalist decomposing of the works into primary elements. He links film techniques to anthropological categories. The method adopted by Kuśmierczyk can become, according to the reviewer, a starting point to further research on the field between film and cultural studies.

Thermal conductivity is a significant heat transfer property of soil. However, the influence of biochar on this property is not well known. In this research, the influence of corn straw biochars prepared at 300, 500 and 700oC on the thermal conductivity of a Brown Earth (Hapli-Udic Cambisol, FAO) soil and its prediction using a Campbell model was examined. The outcomes revealed that the bulk densities of the soil markedly decreased with increases in the biochar amendment rates of 1, 3, and 5% in linear patterns. The reduction in bulk density was mainly attributed to an increase in soil porosity and organic carbon content. With increasing volumetric water contents (10, 20, 30 and 40%), the thermal conductivity of the soils significantly increased, whereas those of soils with biochar amendment were obviously less than that of the CK and the differences increased with the biochar application rates. The pyrolysis temperature of biochar exhibited a negligible effect on the bulk density and thermal conductivity of soils at large. Combining the linear reduction of bulk density with the biochar amendment rate into the Campbell model, well-fitting results for the variation inthermal conductivity versus volumetric water content were obtained and accurate values could be predicted.

W artykule polemizuję ze stanowiącym osnowę publikacji Alexandra Prussa One Body zasadniczym założeniem, że małżeństwo jest ściśle związane z miłością, w tym z miłością romantyczną. To założenie, jak argumentuję, wypływa po części z wyraźnie współczesnego rozumienia małżeństwa. Pokazuję, że w tym względzie stanowisko Prussa kłóci się z poglądem na małżeństwo i praktyką małżeńską z czasów przednowoczesnych, w szczególności z ujęciem chrześcijańskim okresu Cesarstwa Bizantyńskiego, gdy małżeństwo nie opierało się na miłości (romantycznej). Wreszcie podaję pewne przykłady, które pokazują, dlaczego w średniowiecznej kulturze chrześcijańskiej romantyczna miłość nie była związana z instytucją małżeństwa.
This paper contests an important assumption guiding Alexander Pruss’ One Body, that marriage is intimately connected with love, including romantic love. This assumption, I argue, is the product in part of a distinctively modern understanding of marriage. To show this, Pruss’ position is set against the premodern, and in particular the Byzantine Christian, view and practice of marriage, where marriage was not grounded to any significant extent on (romantic) love. Finally, some indication is provided as to why romantic love was disassociated from marriage in medieval Christian culture.

The paper aims at analyzing the relationship between dramaturgy in documentary film and fiction film as a form of storytelling governed by similar rules. The author tries to answer questions about the methods used to shape the material in documentary films. She presents an analysis of two Polish documentaries: Siberian Lesson and Argentinean Lesson by Wojciech Staroń. The structures of both works are based on the theme of the journey. These films represent a type of drama resulting from real-life events, close Kracauer’s theory of “the found story” and Kieślowski’s “dramaturgy of reality”. They also implement the basic assumptions of the paradigm (of the mythic structures) described by Joseph Campbell and Christopher Vogler typical of fiction films.

Prace poświęcone zagadnieniom diagnostyki wirników dotyczą głównie metod wczesnego wykrywania uszkodzeń łożysk. Statystycznie rzecz biorąc, tego typu niesprawności stanowią przeważającą liczbę przyczyn awarii maszyn przepływowych. Do tego celu wykorzystywane są najczęściej analizy drgań w dziedzinie częstotliwości (FFT - szybka transformacja Fouriera) lub częstotliwości i czasu ( DWT - dyskretna transformacja falkowa). Widmo czasowe zawiera informację o wszelkiego typu źródłach drgań i prawidłowa jego interpretacja stanowi klucz do podejmowania właściwych decyzji odnośnie oceny stanu dynamicznego maszyny. Symptomem postępującego zużycia łożyska jest wzrost wartości luzu pomiędzy bieżniami i elementami tocznymi co pociąga za sobą zmianę sztywności i tłumienia układu a tym samym amplitud i częstotliwości jego drgań. W układach rzeczywistych zmienna sztywność wirnika występuje prawie zawsze a jej źródłem jest anizotropowość podatności podparcia wynikająca z geometrii korpusów łożysk, własności sprężystych wibroizolatorów itp. Znaczenie omawianego problemu jest szczególnie istotne w przypadku, gdy częstotliwość obrotowa wirnika jest bliska jego częstotliwości rezonansowej.
Works devoted to the issue of rotor diagnostics are mainly concerned with methods of bearing damage early detection. From the statistical point of view these sorts of inefficiencies prevail in flow machine failure causes. The most widespread method used for this purpose is an analysis of vibrations in the field of frequencies ( FFT - Fourier Fast Transformation ) or frequency and time (DWT - Discreet Wavelet Transform ). Time spectrum contains information about all kinds of vibration sources and its correct interpretation is the key to making right decisions in relation to the dynamic state of the machine. A symptom of the bearing progressive wear is an increase in value of the play between runways and turning elements which results in stiffness and dumping systems change and subsequently in change of its amplitudes and vibration frequencies. In real systems the rotor stiffness is almost always variable due to anisotropy of the support suppleness resulting from the geometry of bearing bodies, elasticity properties of vibro-isolators, etc. The discussed problem is of especially great importance in case when the rotor turning velocity is close to its resonance frequency.

Ramsey Campbell, whose illustrious writing career began as a result of being introduced to the eldritch works of H.P. Lovecraft, is frequently referred to as one of the most prolific authors in the field of British horror. However, the motifs, literary structures, and character archetypes found in his writings often stem from other genres. With this background in mind, this article undertakes a critical analysis of The Count of Eleven, one of Campbell’s best-known works, through a dual spectrum of picaresque traditions and quixotic mentalities. The initial aim of this process is to assess the depth and breadth of the conceptual interconnections that exist between Campbell’s novel and Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quixote – one of the cornerstones of pícaro-focused storytelling. This will allow for an estimation of the effectiveness with which the British writer employs picaresque ideas to achieve narrative goals usually associated with works of horror and social commentaries. It will also provide insight into the current pop and sociocultural relevance of the literary concepts discussed and about the validity of the pícaro archetype in the contemporary Western mediascape.
