Opis:
The effects of the thermal cycles on the microstructures and properties of ductile iron modified by electrolytic plasma treatment were investigated. Microstructure changes occurring in the modified surface were characterized with scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffractometry techniques. Martensitic structure evolved in the heat affected zone and ledeburite structure was produced in the molten zone of the ductile iron. Microhardness of the treated specimens improved considerably as compared to the original sample. X-ray diffraction clearly revealed the formation of a martensite phases in the modified zone.

We study the scattering of torsional waves through a quasi-one-dimensional cavity both from the experimental and theoretical points of view. The experiment consists of an elastic rod with square cross-section. In order to form a cavity, a notch at a certain distance of one end of the rod was grooved. To absorb the waves, at the other side of the rod, a wedge, covered by an absorbing foam, was machined. In the theoretical description, the scattering matrix S of the torsional waves was obtained. The distribution of S is given by Poisson's kernel. The theoretical predictions show an excellent agreement with the experimental results. This experiment corresponds, in quantum mechanics, to the scattering by a delta potential, in one dimension, located at a certain distance from an impenetrable wall.

nextnano$\text{}^{3}$ is a simulation tool that aims at providing global insight into the basic physical properties of realistic three-dimensional mesoscopic semiconductor structures. It focuses on quantum mechanical properties such as the global electronic structure, optical properties, and the effects of electric and magnetic fields for virtually any geometry and combination of semiconducting materials. For the calculation of the carrier dynamics a drift-diffusion model based on a quantum-mechanically calculated density is employed. In this paper we present an overview of the capabilities of nextnano$\text{}^{3}$ and discuss some of the main equations that are implemented into the code. As examples, we first discuss the strain tensor components and the piezoelectric effect associated with a compressively strained InAs layer for different growth directions, secondly, we calculate self-consistently the quantum mechanical electron density of a Double Gate MOSFET, then we compare the intersubband transitions in a multi-quantum well structure that have been obtained with a single-band effective mass approach and with an 8-band k·p model, and finally, we calculate the energy spectrum of a structure in a uniform magnetic field.

We used a theory of thermo-hydrodynamics in quantum Hall system observed on a two-dimensional system in high magnetic fields at low temperatures, to investigate the electron temperature in the linear response regime. The variation of electron temperature exhibits an antisymmetric distribution of the incompressible strips. According to this result, we obtain effects of the electron temperature on the current density distribution using a Thomas-Fermi-Poisson approximation. We observe that incompressible strips change with increasing and/or decreasing the electron temperature with regard to the lattice temperature.

In this work, tin oxide ($SnO_2$) films were deposited on multiwall carbon nanotube buckypaper using a rf magnetron sputter process in a mixed oxygen/argon (1/9) gas environment. Conditions for the growth of $SnO_2$ thin films on multiwall carbon nanotube buckypaper by rf sputtering are: target composition $SnO_2$ (99.999 wt%); total system pressure 1 Pa; sputtering power (rf) 75, 100 and 125 W, respectively; $O_2//Ar$ (1/9) gas mixture. The surface morphology of the $SnO_2$ multiwall carbon nanotube composite films was investigated by scanning electron microscopy. The crystallographic structure of the sample was determined by X-ray diffraction. The electrochemical properties of $SnO_2$ multiwall carbon nanotube composite anodes were investigated by galvanostatic charge-discharge experiments.

Lymphomatoid papulosis (LyP) is a rare cutaneous disorder, most commonly observed in adults, and its occurrence in the pediatric population is exceedingly rare. We present the case of an 6-year-old male patient who exhibited clinical and histopathological features consistent with LyP. The patient presented with multiple erythematous papules on the trunk and extremities, which were accompanied by mild pruritus. The lesions intermittently appeared, disappeared, and changed in morphology. No lymphadenopathy or systemic symptoms were noted. The histopathological examination revealed a dense infiltrate of atypical lymphocytes with cerebriform nuclei in the dermis. Immunohistochemical analysis confirmed CD30 expression in the infiltrating cells, supporting the diagnosis of LyP. Topical corticosteroids were administered to alleviate pruritus and inflammation, although only minimal symptomatic relief was achieved. The beneficial effects of narrowband ultraviolet B (UVB) 311 phototherapy were observed for a duration of four months. Nevertheless, following the cessation of treatment, the reappearance of both the nodular lesions and smaller papular lesions was observed. Consequently, a therapeutic regimen consisting of the administration of methotrexate at a dosage of 10 mg once per week was initiated. The treatment of LyP varies depending on the severity of the lesions and the patient’s symptoms, treatment decisions need to be carefully weighed due to the relatively benign nature of the disease. The diagnosis of LyP in pediatric patients is challenging because of its rarity and potential confusion with malignant lymphomas. Histopathology and immunohistochemistry play a pivotal role in distinguishing LyP from more aggressive entities.
Lymphomatoid papulosis (LyP) jest rzadką chorobą skóry, najczęściej obserwowaną u dorosłych, a jej występowanie w populacji pediatrycznej jest niezwykle rzadkie. W pracy przedstawiono przypadek 6-letniego dziecka płci męskiej, u którego stwierdzono cechy kliniczne i histopatologiczne zgodne z rozpoznaniem LyP. Na skórze pacjenta obserwowano liczne rumieniowe grudki zlokalizowane na tułowiu i kończynach, a towarzyszył im łagodny świąd. Zmiany chorobowe pojawiały się nawrotowo, następnie ustępowały i zmieniały morfologię. W badaniu przedmiotowym nie stwierdzono limfadenopatii ani objawów ogólnoustrojowych. W badaniu histopatologicznym w skórze właściwej stwierdzono gęsty naciek limfocytów atypowych z hiperchromatycznymi i nieregularnymi jądrami komórkowymi. Analiza immunohistochemiczna potwierdziła ekspresję CD30 w naciekających komórkach, co potwierdza rozpoznanie LyP. W celu złagodzenia świądu i stanu zapalnego podawano miejscowo glikokortykosteroidy, chociaż uzyskano jedynie minimalne złagodzenie objawów. Korzystne efekty fototerapii wąskopasmowej UVB 311 obserwowano przez cztery miesiące. Niemniej jednak po zaprzestaniu leczenia zaobserwowano ponowne pojawienie się zarówno zmian guzkowych, jak i mniejszych zmian grudkowych. W związku z tym rozpoczęto schemat terapeutyczny polegający na podawaniu metotreksatu w dawce 10 mg raz na tydzień. Leczenie LyP różni się zależnie od ciężkości zmian i objawów u pacjenta. Decyzje dotyczące leczenia należy dokładnie rozważyć ze względu na stosunkowo łagodny charakter choroby. Rozpoznanie LyP u dzieci i młodzieży stanowi wyzwanie ze względu na rzadkość występowania choroby i możliwość błędnego rozpoznania tej jednostki chorobowej z chłoniakami złośliwymi. Histopatologia i immunohistochemia odgrywają kluczową rolę w odróżnianiu LyP od bardziej agresywnych jednostek chorobowych.

We report MBE growth and properties of samples with self assembled quantum dots with single manganese ions and low density of quantum dots. Manganese concentration was calibrated using magneto-reflectivity measurements and the giant Zeeman effect in (Cd,Mn)Te and (Zn,Mn)Te layers. Successful incorporation of Mn in the CdTe/ZnTe quantum dots was confirmed using micro-photoluminescence measurements: single manganese ion in quantum dot manifests in sixfold splitting of exciton emission lines due to s, p-d exchange interaction.

We studied changes of morphology and magnetic properties of Co/Cu multilayered nanowires, electrodeposited in polycarbonate membranes, as a function of Cu layer thickness. The morphology and structure of wire assemblies with an average diameter of 200 nm and length of 10 μ m, investigated by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy techniques, revealed polycrystalline structure of Cu and Co layers with smooth lateral surface of nanowires. Overdeposited nanowires created caps which showed flower-like dendrites with shape changing as a function of Cu thickness and electrodeposition parameters. Chemical composition of Co and Cu nanowires analysed by energy dispersive spectroscopy and proton induced X-ray emission showed Cu nanowires free from Co atoms while in Co nanowires, Cu contamination with concentration below 10% was observed. The oxidation traces observed in single-component Cu nanowires did not appear in multilayered nanowires. Magnetic measurements indicated easy axis of magnetization in membrane plane for nanowires with Cu thickness smaller than 20 nm, whereas for larger Cu thicknesses isotropic orientation of magnetization was observed. The presence of Cu atoms in single-component Co nanowires resulted in the appearance of magnetic anisotropy with easy axis along nanowire axis and the increase of coercivity value.

In-Ga-Zn-O thin films were fabricated by means of reactive RF magnetron sputtering. Mechanism of free electrons generation via oxygen vacancies formation is proposed to determine the relationship between oxygen content in the deposition atmosphere and the transport properties of IGZO thin films. The depletion-mode a-IGZO thin film transistor with field-effect mobility of $12 cm^2/(Vs)$ has been demonstrated.

Tin dioxide films with variable stoichiometric composition were fabricated by means of dc magnetron sputtering followed by a 2-stage annealing process. The structural and electrical properties of tin dioxide films were investigated by means of the Raman spectroscopy and impedance spectroscopy, respectively. It was found that crystallinity and grain size of tin dioxide films increase with the increasing annealing temperature. The most conductive samples were obtained at the annealing temperature 375°C. Increasing of the impedance of films annealed at higher temperatures is explained by decrease of the concentration of oxygen vacancies.

Ferromagnetic vortex core switching is investigated using micromagnetic simulations. For that the OOMMF program is used together with a temperature extension we have developed recently. This is a continuum micromagnetic approach, where the well-known Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation (valid for zero temperature) is replaced by the Landau-Lifshitz-Bloch equation. In our research we simulate switching of a ferromagnetic vortex core in a flat disk (diameter 200 nm, thickness 20 nm) with material parameters that resemble permalloy. Temperatures in the range 400 K to 700 K are considered. Switching itself is caused by application of a very short oscillating magnetic pulse. Parameters used resemble conditions met in the experiment: oscillation period 141 ps (equal to the peak width) and amplitude 60 mT. Surprisingly, no large temperature- or discretization dependence is found. Reasons for that are discussed.

In this paper, we show analytically and numerically, that the ultrathin metallic layer up to few monatomic layers separating two ferromagnetic media, which are exchange coupled, can effectively change the phase of the reflected or transmitted spin waves. Taking into account ground states with parallel orientations of the magnetization vectors, we developed the analytical model, which shows the possibility of spin-wave phase control by varying the exchange coupling strength between two ferromagnets. Moreover, we demonstrate with micromagnetic simulations that the effect still exists for the spin waves propagating in thin ferromagnetic film during the reflection or transmission from the interface, where interlayer exchange interactions are present.

Studies of craters produced by explosions above and underneath the ground surface are rarely found in the open technical literature. Most reports are confidential and access is limited to government agencies. Much of the information on explosively formed craters found in the literature is based on experimental data. Numerical studies were very limited until recently. An ablity to predict the anticipated size of crater is crucial to identification of the corresponding damage that might be caused by a given explosive charge, or to assessment of the magnitude of the charge if this is not known. In this paper a non-linear dynamic numerical analysis of the explosion phenomena in clay soils associated with different amounts of TNT explosive charge is performed using the ABAQUS/Explicit computer program. To validate the numerical procedure and material constitutive models used in the present work, a comparison with experimental results is first performed. The results obtained illustrate that the agreement between the numerical and the experimental results is reasonable. A study of the influence of soil density on the crater dimensions is then undertaken. From the numerical results obtained, a new prediction equation is proposed for the crater dimensions as a function of the explosive charge considered. This equation represents the approximation of the numerical results by least squares fitting.

In different areas of science such as medicine, biology and engineering the image analysis is widely used. Quantitative measuring by the image analysis has also found application in metal materials science, especially in metallographic microstructure analysis. The measuring of the linear and area dimensions of the microconstituents in the metal material structure performed by the image analysis is presented in the paper. The effects of the heat treatment temperature on the brittle phase content in the structure of the heat resistant Ni-Cr-Co-W alloy were analysed. Investigation of the influence of the alloying elements content in the Al alloys for automotive application, on dendrite arm spacing in the cast structure are also presented. Obtained results of the quantitative measured dimensions have shown direct impact of the process parameters on the analysed metals microstructure characteristics. All tests were performed by the light optical microscope with automatic image analyser. Presented experimental results are based on a large number of measurements. A statistical analysis was performed and a high correlation of the results was obtained. For each of the presented investigations and analyzed phenomenon, a statistical mathematical model is suggested with the boundary conditions defined by the investigated intervals of variables.

The particulate reinforced aluminum alloy matrix composites are being increasingly used for wear component applications. The influence of matrix aging treatment on wear behavior in a powder metallurgy 2124 Al-B₄C composite was investigated. The aging responses of 2124 Al-B₄C metal matrix composite (MMC) and unreinforced matrix alloy are studied and related to variations in wear resistance properties. The MMC is aged resolution treated. Accelerated aging occurs in both MMC conditions, compared with unreinforced alloy. Wear resistance and hardness were substantially higher in the reinforced alloys. The effects of the percentage of boron carbide addition on the microstructure, hardness and wear tests of the produced material are discussed. The effects of the age hardening process are also considered.
