This paper aims to question the military capability concept, as a core element of the strategic military planning process, in order to determine its validity or need for expansion. Thus, based on a deductive approach and qualitative research, we argue that the strategic planning process is a conundrum so dependent on capabilities that it is necessary to analyse this concept per se and, if necessary, expand it on a time and threat basis. Otherwise, the more ambiguous the concept, the more subjective the planning process output and, consequently, the greater likelihood of the Armed Forces not being prepared to face the wide range of future challenges. It concludes by suggesting that the military capability concept should be expanded and more integrated and the strategic defence planning process adapted accordingly.

Il cammino sinodale della Chiesa Cattolica, nella sua fase continentale, ci pone davanti a nuove sfide che richiedono nuove capacità, diverse fra laici e chierici cristiani, ma in stretta complementarietà fra loro. La conversazione spirituale come forma originale del dialogo fra cristiani in questo cammino, potrà arricchirsi di competenze capaci di far fronte alle divisioni interne delle comunità cristiane e aprirsi verso contesti fuori dello stretto ambito ecclesiale. L’articolo propone l’approfondimento di tre capacità, quella relazionale per una nuova cultura dell’incontro, poi quella riflessiva per una nuova cultura del pensiero e, infine, quella collaborativa per una nuova cultura dell’integrazione.
Synodal process of the Catholic Church, in its continental phase, presents us with new challenges that require new capabilities, different between lay and clerical Christians, but in close complementarity with each other. Spiritual conversation as an original form of dialogue among Christians in this journey will be able to be enriched by competencies capable of coping with the internal divisions of Christian communities and opening up to contexts outside the narrow ecclesial sphere. The article proposes the deepening of three capabilities, the relational capability for a new culture of encounter, then the reflective capability for a new culture of thinking, and finally the collaborative capability for a new culture of integration.

Currently, one of the major trends of digital transformation is business process automation, and, in particular, robotic process automation – i.e. replacing human work with software robots. In such context, the term Robotic Process Automation (RPA) may be viewed in two different ways – narrow and broad. In the narrow view, RPA is a fast growing class of software for developing software robots. In the broader view, it is a particular type of an organizational and technological change (the inherent part of which is the specific software implementation), leading to the emergence of a hybrid work environment within which humans and robots collaborate with each other. This is such a new field that a commonly accepted conceptual apparatus (terminology) has not been developed yet; also methodical tools for effective robotic process automation management are missing. Based on the above observations, it was deemed justified to conduct research aimed at: (G1): identifying the differentiators of robotic process automation and the key stages of its implementation, (G2): defining the “capability maps” concept and outlining the principles for designing capability maps; (G3): developing an initial version of the reference robotic capability map and completing its pilot verification. A set of the following research tools was used for this purpose: literature analysis method, semi-structured interviews, creative thinking techniques, case study analysis. The outcome of the research conducted is the development of a proprietary, initial version of the reference robotic capability map that was verified at one of companies operating in Poland. This tool enables obtaining a complete view of the current and required capabilities of an organization to conduct an effective robotic process automation. JEL: L86, O33
Jednym z istotnych trendów cyfrowej transformacji jest obecnie automatyzacja procesów biznesowych, a szczególnie ich robotyzacja – tj. zastępowanie pracy człowieka działaniami robotów programowych. W tym kontekście termin Robotic Process Automation (RPA) może być rozpatrywany w dwóch różnych ujęciach – węższym i szerszym. W ujęciu węższym RPA jest to intensywnie rozwijająca się klasa oprogramowania do budowy robotów programowych. W ujęciu szerszym jest to szczególny rodzaj zmiany organizacyjno-technologicznej (której immanentną częścią jest wdrożenie określonego oprogramowania) prowadzącej do powstania hybrydowego środowiska pracy, w ramach którego kooperują ze sobą ludzie i roboty. Jest to obszar na tyle nowy, że nie ukształtował się jeszcze powszechnie obowiązujący aparat pojęciowy, brakuje także narzędzi metodycznych do efektywnego prowadzenia robotyzacji procesów. Ze względu na powyższe obserwacje uznano, że uzasadnione jest przeprowadzenie badań, których celem jest: (G1) zidentyfikowanie wyróżników robotyzacji procesów biznesowych i kluczowych etapów jej realizacji, (G2) zdefiniowanie koncepcji „map zdolności” oraz określenie zasad konstruowania map zdolności, (G3) opracowanie wersji inicjalnej referencyjnej mapy zdolności robotycznych i wstępna jej weryfikacja. W tym celu zastosowano zestaw następujących narzędzi badawczych: metodę analizy literatury, wywiady częściowo ustrukturalizowane, techniki twórczego myślenia, analizę studium przypadku. Efektem przeprowadzonych badań jest opracowanie inicjalnej wersji referencyjnej mapy zdolności robotycznych, która została zweryfikowanej w jednej z firm działających w Polsce. Narzędzie to umożliwia uzyskanie kompletnego obrazu obecnych i wymaganych zdolności organizacji do przeprowadzenia efektywnej robotyzacji procesów. JEL: L86, O33

The article presents the analysis of the phenomenon of disability from the perspective of human-based capabilities approach. Both health and disability, are concepts that are difficult to be defined precisely. Throughout history, the approach to what health and what disease and disability are have changed. The current approach to health emphasizes the fact that it is something more than just the absence of the disease. It is a kind of well-being experienced at the physical, mental and social level. Th is approach was based on the concept correlates of human capabilities, in which one of the most taken matters is the welfare of man. Health is one of the most valuable opportunities, which has a direct impact on the implementation of other valuable ways of being or acting. On the other hand, disability is manifestations of human diversity and complex interaction with the environment. Its underlying damage (impairment) that may – but need not – turn into a disability. Whether this happens depends on the one hand, the resources that a person has, or that can be used, and on the other – from the conversion factors that may facilitate or restrict access to the capabilities, and through it – the functioning, which considers valuable. Hence, disability may be treated as a form of multidimensional deprivation.

All around the world many people suffer from the lack of sufficient income, well-being or good health. Who among the poor should we help first? Some of the most influential research on poverty has been developed by a famous economist and philosopher Amartya K. Sen. This article is concerned with the problem of reciprocal relations between various concepts and theories of poverty, kinds of ethics and taking decisions about helping poor people. According to Sen, while taking decisions to help the poor we should base our arguments on the capability approach rather than on the basic needs approach, on the entitlement approach rather than the food availability decline, and on the capability rights system rather than utilitarianism.

This article presents an analysis of relationships between the psychological contract and the propensity for knowledge to be created, stored, and transferred within an organization. It is widely known that using knowledge increases organizational capability, and that the quality of relationships between employers and employees has an effect on how strongly the latter are committed to their organization, including activities other than those required in their job descriptions. The awareness of these facts makes knowledge management more effective and, consequently, raises organizational capability determined by the psychological contract to a higher level. This article discusses the outcomes of pilot focus group interviews conducted with respondents employed at three banks. Four main factors contributing to effective knowledge management and thereby to the development of the psychological contract in the organization are identified: the prevalence and opportunity for knowledge sharing, the character of interpersonal relations, cultural aspects for knowledge management, and the level of perceived safety.

In this paper we reflect on some analysis conducted by researchers as Laura Balbo, Mary Catherine Bateson and Martha Nussbaum who, although having not had direct relations among them or specific partnerships, have greatly contributed to elaborate concepts and categories regarding our new vision of the well-being. This concept, so dear to the economist Amartya Sen, draws nourishment from thoughts and lived belonging to women’s life experience, particularly as concerning their capacity to organize their daily and family life, taking care of others, shouldering the vulnerabilities and building their biographical paths with creativity and adaptation. So we can understand what is a good life through the realization of our abilities, that is of each person, and not using a utility calculation. This involves a new approach to life quality and human development, that is exactly the capabilities approach described by Sen, rehashed by Nussbaum but, for some aspects, it was already present into the studies which characterize the gender prospective.

The integration of financial capability with the capability approach remains an open and challenging issue. This paper offers a theoretical exploration of the financial capability framed within Sen’s capability approach in an interdisciplinary way. It focuses on the fundamental conceptual aspects of the capability approach, and on how we may use that framework for the development of financial capability theory. Moreover, the presented theoretical study addresses the issue of the critical role of constrained choice using Simon’s bounded rationality and ecological rationality approach. We used one type of research and it is conceptual analysis. It helped us to better understand and explain the concept of financial capability and address three important issues related to that concept. In this paper, we offer a more transparent and consistent approach that takes into account theoretical evidence on financial capability. We complemented the financial capability literature by highlighting the critical role of the classic works of A. Sen and more recently the influential work of I. Robeyns. Thus, our headline finding is that using A. Sen’s approach as a general framework for the financial capability may offer a more transparent and consistent approach to define financial capability.
Integracja teorii możliwości wyboru z koncepcją możliwości wyborów finansowych pozostaje otwartym problemem badawczym. Celem artykułu jest interdyscyplinarna analiza teoretyczna możliwości wyborów finansowych oparta na pierwotnej wersji teorii możliwości wyboru zaproponowanej przez A. Sena. W artykule podjęto próbę wykorzystania kluczowych komponentów teorii możliwości wyboru do stworzenia teoretycznych założeń koncepcji możliwości wyborów finansowych. Ponadto w artykule wykorzystano dorobek racjonalności ograniczonej H. Simona i dalszych jej rozszerzeń w ramach racjonalności adaptacyjnej. Do osiągnięcia celów wykorzystano analizę koncepcyjną. Pozwoliła ona na lepsze zrozumienie samego pojęcia możliwości wyborów finansowych i zaadresowanie trzech głównych wyzwań w jej zdefiniowaniu. W ten sposób zaproponowano bardziej transparentne i spójne podejście wykorzystujące dorobek teoretyczny w pracach nad możliwościami wyborów finansowych. Dodatkowo uzupełniono literaturę w tym zakresie o klasyczne prace A. Sena i ich dalsze rozwinięcia oferowane szczególnie w pracach I. Robeyns. Z tego powodu najważniejszym wnioskiem niniejszego artykułu jest rekomendacja wykorzystania prac A. Sena nad teorią możliwości wyboru jako warunków ramowych do definiowania możliwości wyborów finansowych.

In the present paper the author presented the causes, mechanisms and results of the mental criteria of assessing capacity to contract a marriage according to the regulations of Family and Guardianship Code and Canonical Law. The author conducted comparative analysis of these records in the aspect of forensic-psychiatric assessment. Special attention was paid to the necessity of individualization of opinions in relation to the duration of the disorders, their type, intensity and their impact on specific cognitive, emotional and motivational functions. Evaluating the impact of the disorders on these dispositions should be of greatest importance in such assessment as they help to comprehend significant marital rights and duties and enable the performance of these duties.

Purpose of the text is to study a concept of development capability and possibility to express it quantitatively. Concept of organization’s development is shown as process of eliminating gaps encountered by organization. A mathematical model of “problem cleaning” is used. It is shown that: There is a mathematical model of closing development gap, which involves characteristics of gap, of resources and parameters of development process. There are four quantities that determine performance of development process. They refer to organization’s characteristics that are set by the strategic management. Model illustrates impact of strategic decisions on effectiveness of development and shows that “time to gap” is one of key factors that determine development capability.

Purpose: The aim of this article is to analyse the theoretical views and results of empirical research concerning the relation between organisational learning (OL) and organisational performance (OP). Methodology: The study was carried out through extensive literature research, including relevant literature review from databases such as ProQuest, Elsevier, Emerald and EBSCO (the phrases: “organisational learning”, “learning organisation” and “organisational performance” were searched in the keywords, titles or abstracts). Findings: From a theoretical point of view, the relation between OL and OP is neither obvious nor clear, but the analysis of the empirical studies allows one to assume that OL has an essential impact on OP. However, differences in the strength of the relation were shown and some contradictions related to the presence of the relation between OL and selected (mostly financial) performance aspects identified. Furthermore, the article discusses the significant differences and inconsistencies in the methods of measuring OL, measuring OP, selecting contextual factors and adopted methods of data analysis. Implications: Inconsistencies and gaps found in the studies of the relationship between OL and OP made it possible to designate the direction for promising further research. Value: The article presents valuable insight through its in-depth, critical analysis of the organisational learning and organisational outcomes. First and foremost, this indicates that the formula of the previous empirical studies does not allow for the development of precise solutions pertaining to organisational learning management for the benefit of OP improvement.

Heutagogy is an educational concept which puts emphasis on the development of learners' capability understood as 'an integration of confidence in one's knowledge, skills, self-esteem and values' (Stephenson, 1992). The process of learning is learner-centred in this approach, which enables the learner to use their own experience and be led by their needs and expectations in order to make their plan of development more appropriate and adaptive to changing circumstances. According to Stewart Hase and Chris Kenyon - the concept's authors, heutagogy is an extension of pedagogical and andragogical approaches. This paper explains main assumptions of the concept and shows research data on this idea implementation in VET and educational practice.

Over time, the requirements of proficiency verification are growing continuously. In order to satisfy higher and higher of reliability demands the most promising staff proficiency verification estimators were examined for voltage, frequency, resistance and capacity measurements. The article presents measurement systems used for verification, analysis of results or simulations, and shows conclusion for selecting the best solution.
