Opis:
Load impact, such as the rockfall, may bring significant threats to the integrity management of pipeline. This study is intended to evaluate the reliability of buried pipeline under rockfall impact, and so as to reduce the possible failure and unnecessary downtime. Firstly, the dynamic response of the buried pipeline under load is analyzed by Euler Bernoulli foundation beam. After that, the process of rockfall impact on buried corroded pipeline is simulated with nonlinear finite element method. Furthermore, the influence of rockfall’s parameters (including rockfall mass, impact velocity, impact position, etc.) on the pipeline’s equivalent stress is quantitatively analyzed. Eventually, a time-varying reliability model is established to calculate the failure probability. The results indicate that the mass and velocity of the rockfall have obvious influence on the pipeline’s failure probability, and the change of impact’s position has small influence. The proposed method can provide a theoretical reference for the design and maintenance of buried pipeline.

Opis:
Network of buried pipelines is one of the critical elements in infrastructure of today's modern cities that cover large geographic distances. That is why they face a variety of natural hazards due to permanent ground replacements or wave emissions. Reports suggest that the main cause of damage to these lines is not seismic vibrations but large and permanent ground deformations are major causes of infrastructures' demolition. Most recent studies are related to lines crossing the strike-slip faults, and only a few researchers have tried to study the behavior of structures against the reverse fault. This article discusses the behavior and response of structures and infrastructures against the movements of reverse faults using the finite elements method. In this study, the interaction between soil-soil and soil-pipe has been considered in modeling terms. By using Abacus finite element analysis software version 6.11, pipe as shell element and the material behavior as elastoplastic as well as the soil around the pipeline as a continuous volumetric elements were designed and analyzed.

Opis:
The study aimed to examine the use of Geomagnetic Anomaly Detection (GAD) to locate the buried ferromagnetic pipeline defects without exposing them. However, the accuracy of GAD is limited by the background noise. In the present work, we propose an approximate entropy noise suppression (AENS) method based on Variational Mode Decomposition (VMD) for detection of pipeline defects. The proposed method is capable of reconstructing the magnetic field signals and extracting weak anomaly signals that are submerged in the background noise, which was employed to construct an effective detector of anomalous signals. The internal parameters of VMD were optimized by the Scale–Space algorithm, and their anti-noise performance was compared. The results show that the proposed method can remove the background noise in high-noise background geomagnetic field environments. Experiments were carried out in our laboratory and evaluation results of inspection data were analysed; the feasibility of GAD is validated when used in the application to detection of buried pipeline defects.

Opis:
This paper deals with mathematical modelling of a seabed layer in the thermodynamic analysis of a submarine pipeline buried in seabed sediments. The existing seabed soil models: a “soil ring” and a semi-infinite soil layer are discussed in a comparative analysis of the shape factor of a surrounding soil layer. The meaning of differences in the heat transfer coefficient of a soil layer is illustrated based on a computational example of the longitudinal temperaturę profile of a -kilometer long crude oil pipeline buried in seabed sediments.

Opis:
The buried metallic pipeline which parallels to the HV power line is subject to induced voltages from the AC currents flowing in the conductors, these voltages can affect the operating personnel, pipeline associated equipment, and the pipeline integrity. This paper analyses the induced voltage and current on the buried pipeline running parallel to HV power lines. It also presents an optimization procedure of different parameters that affect the level of the induced voltage in the pipeline during normal operating conditions. A comparison study between the proposed optimization algorithms (GOA, GE, DE and PSO) is done with a maximization of a given objective function. The simulation results establish that the GOA algorithm provides a faster convergence and better solution than the other optimization algorithms. Thus, the statistical analysis according to Friedman’s rank test confirmed the superiority of this proposed algorithm. Furthermore, the results show that the parameters optimization of the metallic pipeline is an effective approach to provide the best performance for mitigation which is generally sufficient to reduce the induced voltage experienced by the buried metallic pipeline to enforce the safety limit.
