We give an abstract version of Sierpiński's theorem which says that the closure in the uniform convergence topology of the algebra spanned by the sums of lower and upper semicontinuous functions is the class of all Baire 1 functions. Later we show that a natural generalization of Sierpiński's result for the uniform closure of the space of all sums of A and CA functions is not true. Namely we show that the uniform closure of the space of all sums of A and CA functions is a proper subclass of the space of all functions measurable with respect to the least class containing intersections of analytic and coanalytic sets and which is closed under countable unions (A and CA functions are analogues of lower and upper semicontinuous functions, respectively, when measurability with respect to open sets is replaced by that with respect to analytic sets).

For non-empty topological spaces X and Y and arbitrary families $\cal A$ ⊆ $\cal P(X)$ and $\cal B ⊆ \cal P(Y)$ we put $\cal C_{\cal A,\cal B}$={f ∈ $Y^X$ : (∀ A ∈ $\cal A$)(f[A] ∈ $\cal B)$}. We examine which classes of functions $\cal F$ ⊆ $Y^X$ can be represented as $\cal C_{\cal A,\cal B}$. We are mainly interested in the case when $\cal F=\cal C(X,Y)$ is the class of all continuous functions from X into Y. We prove that for a non-discrete Tikhonov space X the class $\cal F=\cal C$(X,ℝ) is not equal to $\cal C_{\cal A,\cal B}$ for any $\cal A$ ⊆ $\cal P(X)$ and $\cal B$ ⊆ $\cal P$(ℝ). Thus, $\cal C$(X,ℝ) cannot be characterized by images of sets. We also show that none of the following classes of real functions can be represented as $\cal C_{\cal A,\cal B}$: upper (lower) semicontinuous functions, derivatives, approximately continuous functions, Baire class 1 functions, Borel functions, and measurable functions.

Opis:
Let K be a Hutchinson fractal in a complete metric space X, invariant under the action S of the union of a finite number of Lipschitz contractions. The Open Set Condition states that X has a non-empty subinvariant bounded open subset V, whose images under the maps are disjoint. It is said to be strong if V meets K. We show by a category argument that when K ⊄ V and the restrictions of the contractions to V are open, the strong condition implies that [formula] termed the core of V, is non-empty. In this case, it is an invariant, proper, dense, subset of K, made up of points whose addresses are unique. Conversely, [formula] implies the SOSC, without any openness assumption.

Opis:
Here in this paper we intend to deal with two questions: How large is a “Lebesgue Class” in the topology of Lebesgue integrable functions, and also what can be said regarding the topological size of a “Lebesgue set” in R?, where by a Lebesgue class (corresponding to some x in R) is meant the collection of all Lebesgue integrable functions for each of which the point x acts as a common Lebesgue point, and, by a Lebesgue set (corresponding to some Lebesgue integrable function f ) we mean the collection of all ebesgue points of f. However, we answer these two questions in a more general setting where in place of Lebesgue integration we use abstract integration in locally compact Hausdorff topological groups.
