Opis:
This study aimed to explore the potential impact of the Lean Manufacturing methodology on the implementation and functioning of the BRC Standard for Packaging. The study highlighted many issues where the Lean Manufacturing concept supports and opposes the BRC Standard for Packaging. A framework for the coexistence of both approaches was determined. The study was of a conceptual nature; it adopted an analytical approach. The approach was based on in-depth consideration of each requirement in the BRC Standard for Packaging s and an assessment of the coherence with the Lean Manufacturing methodology. As a result, many conclusions, clues and challenges were found. The article indicates several areas, in which Lean Manufacturing supports the BRC Standard for Packaging, attributing a special positive role to Lean Tools & Techniques. Also, it indicates six areas, in which the BRC Standard for Packaging contradicts the Lean Manufacturing approach. A comprehensive analysis of the coexistence of both management systems allows a better understanding of challenges while implementing both of them in an organisation. The presented concept of the coexistence of both systems is valuable for management.

Opis:
BRC/IoP (British Retail Consortium / Institute of Packaging) is the only industry standard dedicated entrepreneurs operating in the packaging industry, primarily intended for contact with food. The requirements of the BRC /IoP guarantee the safety of packaging and fulfillment of all legal and hygienic requirements. The article presents the main features of the standard, the basic requirements contained in the document and the results of research on the implementation of quality management systems, including standard BRC/IoP and the actions that are required checklists. It is noticeable that there is little interest in certification BRC/IoP, due to low awareness of the standard, despite the fulfillment of some of the basic requirements of the surveyed companies.

Opis:
Fractions of 8 heavy metals (Cd, Cr, Hg, Cu, Zn, Pb, Ni and As) in sludges from two typical coking wastewater treatment plants were determined by atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) using the modified the European Community Bureau of Reference sequential extraction procedure as the pretreatment technology. The sludges from biological, coagulation deposition units and the discharged sludges of two plants were sampled and the exchangeable, reducible, oxidable, residual fraction and the total content were determined. The oxidable or residual fraction was the predominant fraction in various sludges and on the contrary that the values of the exchangeable and reducible fractions were much lower. Poor biological availability and low potential environment risk of heavy metals was found in sludges from typical coking wastewater treatment plants. Further results of cluster analysis conducted by SPSS that the units with similar conditions could be classed together identified that the unit condition was one key factor affecting on the fraction of heavy metals in sludges.
