The subject of this article is the analysis of the changes and the legacy of the legal aspects of the Rural Women’s Associations. Its specific purpose is to characterise their history, the legal forms of functioning: as associations, as independent Rural Women’s Associations and the changes resulting from entering into force of the Act of November 9, 2018 on the Rural Women’s Associations. The Author of the article used the dogmatic and the historical-legal methods. The Act of 2018 on the Rural Women’s Associations introduced numerous new legal solutions. Currently, the associations cultivate traditions, contributing to the rural development. They show initiative and build a good image of their area. The implementation of many activities undertaken by the associations is possible thanks to the financing granted from the state budget. Pursuant to the Act on the Rural Women’s Associations of November 9, 2018, a separate organisational formula was created for RWAs which constitute voluntary, independent and self-governing social organisations of village residents. Based on the previously applicable law, the Rural Housewives’ Associations could be created as part of agricultural associations as their independent units. They could also function in the form of associations. The legislator has granted the legal personality to the associations, which allows them to conduct business activity on their own account and use the financial support the public funds. The Rural Women’s Associations perform an important function in the rural environment. They support the integration of local communities, cultivate local and regional customs, develop women’s entrepreneurship in rural areas, combining tradition with modernity.

The paper discusses a model of matching process which was proposed by two American mathematicians: David Gale and Lloyd S. Shapley. The basic concept defined by them was the stable allocation, which can be achieved with so-called deferred acceptance algorithm. The article analyzes the problems discussed by the theory of stable allocations on the basis of graph theory. It has been shown that the issues raised by this theory can be ana-lyzed using bipartite graphs and networks weighted. They also formulated conditions which should be met in purpose to solve a problem of matching. References relate to the labor market, as a discussed issue is applicable in practice, especially in the design of systems of recruitment companies. The aim of the article is to present the problem of bilateral associa-tions with the use of the language of graph theory and an indication of possible applications in the area of search and match of job seekers and employers.

The obligation to keep sales records using cash registers applies to all taxpayers of the VAT performing sale to natural persons who do not run a business and flat-rate farmers. If a non-profit organization (association, foundation) sells to these entities – despite the lack of commercial nature of the activity (sale) or including economic activity into the statute – it is obliged to keep sales records using cash registers, unless it takes benefit from an exemption resulting from the relevant executory provisions.

The term of office of the authorities of a Polish sports association may not be longer than 4 years, and the function of the president of the association’s management board may be held for no more than two consecutive terms. The Act on Sport also sets out a catalogue of prohibitions and restric‑ tions aimed at persons holding positions on the association’s management board. Recommendations and guidelines on the procedure for the election of the bodies of Polish sports associations, including the election of delegates, are set out in the “Code of Good Governance for Polish Sports Associations”, developed by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.

The subject for reflection in this paper is the translational challenge posed by the rendering of linguistic representations of national stereotypes, based on the example of the flower Edelweiss from the song Edelweiss which became a word-symbol for the inhabitants of the U.S.A. The translation of this stereotype created in the U.S.A., where the symbol of Edelweiss gained an added meaning, means that the translator of the English-German language pair is forced to explain the exo-cultural associations to those receivers who are enculturated in the country of this symbol’s origin.

In the opinion of the author, the Bill meets the requirements specified in the Act on the Execution of a Legislative Initiative by Citizens. However, doubts are related to the question whether it is constitutionally permissible for a group of citizens to submit the analyzed project, because in accordance with the Constitution, relations between the Republic of Poland and the Catholic Church are determined by an international agreement concluded with the Holy See, while relations between the Republic of Poland and other churches and religious associations are determined by laws passed on the basis of agreements concluded by the Council of Ministers with their respective representatives. However, in a situation where changes in the provisions of the Act on the relations between the State and the Catholic Church in Poland do not constitute the basic matter covered by a given amending bill, it is acceptable that the initiative for such changes does not come exclusively from the Council of Ministers.

The paper presents an analysis of a number of cognitive metaphors pertaining to the concept of mind (e.g. sanity and insanity), heart, and fire. The study has been based on the text of Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer. The paper contains a short theoretical introduction and a discussion of different linguistic and psychological approaches to issues related to figurative and literal, conventional language use. The analytical part focuses on the detailed contextual study of the cognitive metaphorical concepts. It is argued that many apparently similar concepts can evoke semantically conflicting metaphors, while concepts that appear to be mutually exclusive can sometimes evoke common associations and thereby similar metaphors.

The article is concerned with reconstructing the cultural meanings included in the Polish signs “inny” (“different”) and “obcy” (“foreign”) and comparing them with their Russian and German counterparts, i.e. “другой” and “чужой”, “der Andere” and “der Fremde” respectively. The data for the comparative analysis were collected by means of the free association method. The features indicated by the respondents reflected culture-specific and language-specific associative profiles of images of the lexical items “different” and “foreign”, characteristic of the representatives of the Polish, Russian and German cultures. The results of the association test confirm that there exist numerous criteria which the Polish, Russian and German respondents referred to while specifying the meaning of “different” and “foreign”. The questionnaire allowed for establishing a hierarchy of the criteria as well as for indicating significant similarities and differences between the Polish, Russian and German associative definitions of both terms.

This study explores English for specific purposes learners’ understanding of technical words in a previously-developed technical word list in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The principal aim was to estimate what kind of technical terms pose problems to TCM learners and might therefore merit special attention in instruction. Of particular interest was the question whether there is a divergence in the understanding of technical vocabulary in TCM between Chinese and Western background learners. To achieve these aims, a combination of word association tasks and retrospective interviews was implemented with 11 Chinese and 10 Western background TCM learners. The data showed that both Chinese and Western learners encountered certain difficulties in understanding technical vocabulary in their study. However, their sources of difficulty were different. Comparisons of typical word associations between Chinese and Western learners indicated that there was a degree of divergence in the way these two participant groups understood TCM terms.

The aim of the present study was the evaluation of habitual physical activity in adult members of health promoting associations in compliance with selected health recommendations. Physical activity was monitored for 7 consecutive days using accelerometer ActiGraph GT3X+. It was observed that the percentages of individuals with sufficient physical activity differ depending on healthoriented recommendation used in the evaluation. The results indicated that despite appropriate weekly volume of physical activity expressed in energy expenditure (on the average, twice as high as the recommended minimum) and the number of steps taken daily, the prevailing majority of participants (60%) demonstrated an inadequate level of it when assessed in the context of recommendation by World Health Organization.

Opis:
Effective interpretation of the data on breeding programs is important at all stages of plant improvement and the genotype by trait (GT) biplot was used for two-way wheat dataset as genotypes with multiple traits. For this propose, 18 rye genotypes with specific characteristics were evaluated in randomized block design with four replications. The GT biplot for rye dataset explained 61% of the total variation of the standardized data (the first two principal components explained 40 and 21% respectively). The polygon view of GT presented for 11 different traits of rye cultivars showed six vertex cultivars as G1, G3, G6, G8, G11 and G13 whose genotype G8 had the highest values for most of the measured traits. Generally based on vector view, ideal genotype and ideal tester biplots, it was demonstrated that the selection of high seed yield will be performed via seed number per spike, first internode weight, number of spike per area and harvest index. These traits should be considered simultaneously as effective selection criteria evolving high yielding rye cultivars because of their large contribution to seed yield. The genotypes G8 and G7 following to genotypes G3, G18 and G19 could be considered for the developing of desirable progenies in the selection strategy of rye improvement programs.

Studies concerning emotional changes following brain damage neglect the emotional responses that might arise in reaction to the stimuli used in their examination of such patients. Yet those reactions may be quite forceful often provoking feeling of anxiety or panic and dismay. A questionnaire designed to reveal associations and emotional attitudes was presented to 96 extramural students. Four categories of products and the products within those categories were selected. The categories included: sweets; alcohol; transport, and consumer electronics. In addition, 174 participants of various ages and professions produced associations linked to emotionally loaded words. A list of associations and their dominance scores were created. It revealed that transport (4.9) and consumer electronics (5) were given the highest mean scores. Also, the terms car (5.3) and mobile phone (5) aroused the highest levels of emotion. The significance of the emotional attitudes of the participants to objects were determined within particular dimensions that measured likableness, interest, goodness, and attractiveness. The terms beer, chocolate, car and mobile phone were reported to be most acceptable in all four dimensions. The above data suggests that the emotional attitude awakened by a particular object finds its expression in all of the dimensions examined. The studies revealed the significance of primary subconscious affects for creating positive or negative attitudes. This should be taken into account by therapists since objects which evoke a negative affect may trigger a patient’s reluctance to take part in the rehabilitation procedure.

The article aims at a discussion of Iosip Brodsky’s literary, artistic as well as personal connections with Poland and Poles. The poet’s admiration for Polish language and especially his fascination with the literature of the Renaissance period (Kochanowski, Sęp-Szarzyński, Rej and others) and modern poetry (Miłosz, Herbert, Szymborska and others) have been one of the main focuses of the article. The author highlights that fact that thanks to the presence of Polish motifs the poetry of Iosip Brodsky, in the times of important events in the history of Poland, had a special appeal for Polish readers. Brodsky’s eminent friends associated with the Solidarity movement, such as Barańczak, Drawicz and Woroszylski, pointed to its intertextual and, at times, documentary character. The article offers also an insight into Brodsky’s friendship with Miłosz, the friendship which greatly contributed to the Russian poet’s fascination with Polish culture.

Artykuł ma na celu przybliżenie związków wartości z emocjami utrwalonych w leksykonie mentalnym Polaków, Rosjan i Niemców. Analiza materiału językowego pozyskanego w rezultacie testu swobodnych skojarzeń, oparta na metodologii badań kognitywnych oraz psychologicznej skali PANAX-X, pokazuje, że pojęcia odsyłające do stanów afektywnych są obecne w profilach asocjacyjnych większości jednostek aksjologicznych. Najwięcej związków z emocjami pozytywnymi stwierdzono w profilach wartości odczuciowych, najmniej lub brak emocji – w profilach wartości społecznych i moralnych. Wyniki poświadczające wysoki status wartości odczuciowych w systemie aksjologicznym respondentów i związane z nimi postawy propulsywne oraz niższą pozycję innych wartości można tłumaczyć dominacją orientacji postmaterialistycznej współczesnych użytkowników trzech języków.

The topic of this article is devoted to the discussion of the ideas of cultural and social activities propounded by Professor of History, Rev. Jonas Totoraitis (1872-1941). It also deals with a question of what conditions were present for their implementation in the early twentieth century. The first idea to establish the Society to Investigate the History of Lithuania was largely predicated on his professional background as historian. Another idea was indebted to his perception of the duty of the priest. It manifested itself in the aspiration to set up a special organization (association) of Roman Catholic clergy to tackle world-view issues of society at large. Another field of Rev. Totoraitisʼ activities was organizing youth in the countryside. His most significant contribution was theoretical: a study entitled “Catholic Youth Associations”, published in the journal “Vadovas” (Leader), and some time later republished in a separate booklet “The Guardianship of Youth and Its Associations”.

The predominantly negative historical experience of Poland with those two nations, especially with the Russians, constitutes the background for a rather negative attitude towards both of them. However, the recent political changes in the Eastern European region, especially the revolution in Ukraine starting in 2013 and subsequently the Russian-Ukrainian crisis have the potential to change the light in which Poles are viewing their neighbours. Previous research has already suggested that after the aforementioned events the general attitude of Polish people towards the Ukrainians has become more positive, while towards Russians it is increasingly negative. In order to analyse the contemporary image of Russians and Ukrainians, a survey with 150 Polish university students was conducted. The results of the research show that both nations are predominantly associated with the current socio-political situation rather than with history, culture, language, tradition or other topics. While Russia and Russians are mostly associated with the current political situation and key persons, the Ukraine is linked to the socio-political changes in the state taking place during the research.

The operations of the Łódź Sports Club in the interwar period are an important part of the history of sport in the city of Łódź, as well as Poland. The Club’s prestige and successes should be chiefly attributed to the athletes’ and the coaches’ commitment, coupled with the activists’ organisational skills. A historical analysis of the Club’s operations indicates that, in addition to training athletes in various disciplines, the establishment was also involved in a wide range of impressive cultural and educational activities. These centred on organising reading rooms, talks, lectures, social meetings and trips as well as promoting patriotic values and the idea of fair play. Hence, the Club’s educational work was channelled into axiological models of sports competition on the one hand, and into propagating education and culture on the other.

The article presents the results of a survey conducted in 2018−2019. The research aimed to determine the opinion of the mountain guides on forest landscape management in the Polish part of the Bieszczady Mountains (SE Poland). The survey included questions related to selected aspects of forest landscape management such as: timber acquisition, engineering forest landscape management with particular regard to the communication accessibility of forests and nature protection. Statistical analyses showed that according to the investigated mountain guides excessive tree felling is carried out in the forests of the Bieszczady Mts. Most of the respondents were of the opinion that in the Bieszczady only manual timber acquisition should take place. The vast majority of the surveyed guides negatively referred to activities related to hardening of the forest roads. Most of them were against the establishing of a new national park in the region. The frequency of guides’ visits to the forests differentiates their views on the establishment of new and extension of existing landscape parks, as well as on the aspect of levelling forest road surfaces.

The article presents some archaeological observations based on recent publications and the author’s survey in situ of the so-called “House of Aion” at Nea Paphos in Cyprus. The archaeological context (coins and pottery) dates the last phase of this building to the 320s, its partial destruction to the earthquake of 332/342, and its final annihilation by another quake to 365. The much-discussed mosaic with mythological decoration in the triclinium and the newly analyzed wall paintings in one of the rooms (No. 7), preserving the figures of Apollo and three of the Muses, are typical decorative elements of late antique Roman elite houses. And yet, the layout of the building, the triclinium located at the entrance to the house, and the presence of two rooms with a wooden floor, laid over an earlier water cistern converted into a cellar, possibly a treasury, suggest that the function of the complex was not residential at all. Indeed, the close proximity of the “Villa of Theseus”, which was rebuilt in the same period and converted into the praetorium of the governor of the island in the first half of the 4th century, suggests that the so-called “House of Aion” could have been the seat of a Roman association, probably a synodos of Dionysiac artists (ex-technitai) who presented themselves in the theater of Paphos. Therefore, it would be better to call this building the Synodeion of Late Roman Cyprus.

The study regards major social associations and individual initiatives in social networks, which carry out the idea of the right to the city. The object of analysis is the multimedia material posted on the Internet, capturing an image of a virtual city created by spontaneous actions of residents. The described visible activity is an expression of an arising reflective approach toward urban space. The change in residents’ mindsets about their role is facilitated by the network connection of participants. The efficacy of these networks creates an influential environment which has a considerable impact on today’s city management.

Objective: The objective of the given work consisted in studying associations between the major indices of physical development (PD) and physical fitness, on the one hand, and the level of special work capacity of elite wrestlers of different weight categories, on the other hand. Material: 147 Ukrainian athletes engaged in Greco-Roman, free-style wrestling and judo served as the subjects. The following methods of studies were used: anthropometry, caliperometry, dynamometry, methods of testing speed-strength fitness and special work capacity of wrestlers, statistical processing and computer modelling. Results: It has been demonstrated that skill level determines ratio and associations of morphometric and speed-strength indices, level of athletes’ special work capacity. Enhancement of skill level results in augmentation of speed-strength fitness, increase of body circumferences, decrease of fat component content, gain of muscular component and muscular development index. Along with the increase of weight category the level of speed-strength fitness and special work capacity decreases. Respective mathematical models were developed. Conclusions. It is recommended to use the developed regression models for modelling, predicting and evaluating special work capacity of highly skilled wrestlers of light, middle and heavy weight categories.

After World War II documentation of archive of the Konwent Polonia was dispersed. Currently, it is gathered in three institutions: The Archdiocesan Archive of Warsaw, The Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences in Vilnius and The Polish Institute and Sikorski Museum in London. This study presents a Vilnius collection - both structure of the archival fond and the information value of gathered archival units. It is extremely useful for researchers - particularly in the context of the lack of online inventories, as well as factual mistakes committed during the archival description of the records gathered there. This archival fond consists of 404 units and it is one of the most important sources for the history of both the Konwent Polonia and polish fraternities. Especially that most of fraternities archives were destroyed, and the total number of members of all academic fraternities until the outbreak of World War II was at least over a twelve thousand.

At the beginning of the 17th century the capital of Poland was moved from Kraków to Warsaw causing the former capital of the Kingdom of Poland to fall into ruin. At the end of the 18th century Kraków, a small town of approximately 11 000 people, was in a severely deteriorated state. The author of the paper recalls the history of activities undertaken by so-called “burzymurkowie” (demolition men, literally “wall-destroyers”) who at the turn of the 18th century took charge of the process of demolishing the walls of the City of Kraków and who devastated many historic temples and secular buildings. However, in the first years of the 19th century, such defenders of historic monuments as Feliks Radwański and Florian Straszewski started to act in Kraków. Their contribution was to save the remaining walls of the town and many of its historic edifices. Very soon a host of other “old Kraków” lovers joined the aforementioned group. In the second part of the 19th century defenders of the monuments began to be active in a number of organizations. At the beginning of the 20th century these  organizations, as well as some cultural and artistic associations, entered into “The Union of Eleven Cultural Associations” which became spectacularly successful, for example saving the ‘Pod Krzysztofory’ Palace and two historic houses near the Saint Giles church. In this way the organization, which was concerned with the protection of city heirlooms, was created in Kraków before World War I. The organization was unique in Europe at the time, bringing together scholars, artists, and publicists.

This article has the goal to present the development of Catholic journeyman organizations in Warmia from 1848 until the outbreak of the First World War. He relies primarily on reports in the press of the 19th Century as well as archival material. In this paper wasdescribed the history of these associations, and then the social organizations in Warmia, taking into account their education, their governing bodies, as well as the time and place of the meetings held and the development of initiatives in favor of the intellectual, moral, and professional development of young men. Soon the extent of the popularity of this organization has been lit among the young craftsmen and among believers of local parishes. Furthermore, the role of the Catholic clergy in the establishment of journeymen associations was examined. Finally, structural bonds of Warmia organizations with headquarters in Germany were analyzed.

According to one of the famous foundresses of the French Federation of Eclaireuses (FFE), Marguerite Walther, it had to a be a female movement where “any little French girl would be comfortable” – comfortable to learn about moral values and about freedom. The FFE was very successful during the 1930s, achieving a high number of enrolments which were maintained after World War II. But the 1960s resulted in some fatal consequences for the FFE due to several reasons. There were financial problems, personality clashes, changes of attitude, and, eventually, co-education. Nevertheless, undertaking the analysis ofthe impact ofthe Eclaireuses’ movement one may clearly see its contribution to women’s empowerment in France. The question is to determine the particularities of this kind of feminism and how the women participating in the movement became more engaged in civil society.

A person who learns a foreign language should get acquainted with associations of the studied words since they belong to the (passive or active) lexicon of the representatives of the culture of the studied language. Word associations which are stored in the memory (consciousness) of every representative of any language and culture are registered in the dictionary of associations as an associative norm. Learners of Russian are able to get to know such associations through mini-texts appropriately chosen by their teachers (poems, songs, riddles, fixed expressions, proverbs). Such texts constitute a linguistic-culturological commentary which allows learners to “immerse” themselves in the Russian reality and culture, which is the main assumption of any teacher of Russian as a foreign language who adheres to the trend of applied linguistics and culturology. Classes when the described commentary is used help students to develop their socio-cultural competence, which in turn should prevent a cultural conflict during intercultural communication. It seems that in the next decade the attention of teacher trainers will be focused on this aspect of teaching.

The purpose of this article is to attempt to reconstruct the concept слобода (freedom) in the Serbian language. The analysis is based on survey data and their interpretation in relation to a broad context of culture, history and language. The starting point for the analysis are responses gathered in the Associative Dictionary of the Serbian Language. Associations are classified according to formal types, such as contrastive, metaphorical and metonymic associations. In terms of meaning, the responses were divided into the following conceptualizations: слобода personal freedom, слобода as struggle for independence, слобода as a bird, слобода as a boundless space, слобода as blue and white colors, слобода as a white horse, слобода as a place where we feel at ease, слобода as nature, слобода as a bridge, слобода as free will, слобода as the highest value. Presented associative fields have been documented with examples of idioms, proverbs, dictionary definitions, lyrics, and literary texts.
Celem artykułu jest rekonstrukcja konceptu слобода (wolność) w języku serbskim w oparciu o dane ankietowe i ich interpretację w nawiązaniu do szerokiego kontekstu kulturowego, historycznego i językowego. Punktem wyjścia dla analizy są odpowiedzi respondentów zebrane w Słowniku skojarzeń języka serbskiego. Asocjacje zostały podzielone pod względem formalnym na kontrastywne, metaforyczne i metonimiczne. Pod względem znaczeniowym dokonano podziału na następujące konceptualizacje: слобода jako wolność osobista, слобода jako niezależność, слобода jako walka, слобода jako ptak, слобода jako bezgraniczna przestrzeń, слобода jako błękit i biel, слобода jako biały koń, слобода jako miejsce, gdzie czujemy się swobodnie, слобода jako przyroda, слобода jako most, слобода jako wolna wola, слобода jako najwyższa wartość. Prezentowane pola asocjacyjne zostały udokumentowane przykładami frazeologizmów, przysłów, definicji słownikowych, słów piosenek czy tekstów literackich.

The internal structure of the religious fraternities shows that it was, if not exemplary, certainly well thought out and carried out with full awareness. It reflects well on fraternities, even though they were very common organizations and had a large number of people with different social status as well as educational and intellectual levels, because they were open to all those willing to join them. Perhaps that is why, in addition to the devotional and religious reasons given by the Church, they were so commonplace. All of this undoubtedly affected the role that fraternities, or more broadly, religious associations played in the history of the Church, the entire societies and local communities of those times.

This article examines the Church’s teaching on the associations of the lay faithful from the perspective of criteria of ecclesiality. First, documents of a universal scope are discussed: Evangelii nuntiandi by Paul VI, Christifideles laici by John Paul II and Iuvenescit Ecclesia, a letter of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Following that is a detailed presentation of a document by the Commission for the Doctrine of the Faith of the Polish Bishops’ Conference developed in 2022, Kryteria eklezjalności wspólnot katolickich (Criteria of ecclesiality of Catholic communities), from which the elements for the local situation can be read, through concrete examples of the practices undertaken.

Jest to jednostka organizacyjna nienastawiona na osiąganie zysku, której cel stanowi gromadzenie i trwała ochrona dóbr naturalnego i kulturalnego dziedzictwa ludzkości o charakterze materialnym i niematerialnym, informowanie o wartościach i treściach gromadzonych zbiorów, upowszechnianie podstawowych wartości historii, nauki i kultury polskiej oraz światowej, kształtowanie wrażliwości poznawczej i estetycznej oraz umożliwianie korzystania ze zgromadzonych zbiorów. Niemniej jednak może prowadzić dodatkową działalność, z której uzyskane środki będą wykorzystywane na realizację zadań statutowych.
The purpose of the article is to analyze the legal provisions governing the functioning of local government cultural institutions on the example of the Jacek Malczewski Museum in Radom. The Jacek Malczewski Museum as a local government institution of culture fulfills public tasks. It is a non-profit organizational unit whose aim is to collect and permanently protect tangible and intangible goods of natural and cultural heritage of humanity, to inform about the values and contents of the gathered collections, to popularize the basic values of Polish and world history, science and culture, to shape cognitive and aesthetic sensitivity and to enable the use of the gathered collections. Nevertheless, it may carry out additional activities, the proceeds from which will be used for the implementation of statutory task.

The article entitled Education of NGO’s members on the basis of research in third sector in the Nowosądecki district, is focusing on needs which has got the members of associations and foundations. In the text besides theoretical considerations about the third sector are presented the results of author’s research which were taken in 2012 on Nowosądecki district. Authors draw attention how important for adult education are training which are organized by non-governmental organizations. From the quality of the training- the selection of the content, form, duration, size and composition of the group - depends not only on the functioning of the organization but also regional development and consequently the development of the country.

This article explores the urban elites of Lviv during its autonomous era under Habsburg rule. The elites included not only state and municipal officials but also ‘self-proclaimed’ groups of local patriots, whose main point of reference was their city and maintaining its respectability. The issue of the preservation of secular monuments in the city (mainly the Old Town) is dealt with, as well as the history of selected grassroots associations, like the Society of the Friends of Old Lviv and the Society for the Embellishment of the City of Lviv and Its Surroundings. The author argues that by investigating the institutions which took care of the physical space of the city and its buildings, it is possible to delve into the identity of the elites in question. He further argues that it was not only the imperial and national identity that was reflected in the sources, but also a purely local one, which points to the issue of localness as an important category of research.

The article focuses on the contemporary images and associations of Polish university students with their Eastern neighbours – Belarus and Belarusians. At the beginning of the article I argue that Belarusians for a long time remained a relatively unknown nation, not only for the distant Western Europeans or Americans, but also for the neighbouring states. An overview of Polish public opinion research concerning the national stereotypes and attitudes towards Belarusians is provided. 150 surveys with Polish university students in Warsaw and Krakow have been conducted. The analysis of the results shows that an overwhelming majority of university students associate Belarus and Belarusians with its contemporary political situation. Associations with people, their culture and customs are marginal. Moreover, Belarusians were neither familiar, nor interesting, to the majority of Polish students. Thus, the stereotypical image of Belarusians is not well shaped in Poland – until today they remain rather unknown and vague to Poles.  
Artykuł jest poświęcony współczesnym obrazom i skojarzeniom polskich studentów z ich wschodnimi sąsiadami – Białorusinami. Na początku artykułu zwracam uwagę na to, iż Białorusini przez długi czas pozostawali stosunkowo nieznani jako naród nie tylko dla odległej Europy Zachodniej czy Ameryki, ale również dla państw sąsiednich. Dalej jest przytoczony przegląd polskich badań opinii publicznej, dotyczących stereotypów narodowych i postaw wobec Białorusinów. Badanie własne zawiera analizę 150 ankiet przeprowadzonych ze studentami w Warszawie i Krakowie. Analiza wyników pokazuje, że zdecydowanej większości polskich studentów Białoruś i Białorusini kojarzą się ze współczesną sytuacją polityczną w tym kraju. Skojarzenia z ludźmi, ich kulturą oraz obyczajami są bardzo nieliczne. Ponadto dla większości polskich studentów Białoruś oraz Białorusini nie są ani dobrze znani, ani interesujący. W ten sposób można stwierdzić, że stereotypowy obraz Białorusinów nie jest dobrze ukształtowany w Polsce. Do dziś Białorusini pozostają raczej mało znani Polakom.

The aim of this article is to analyse the legal status of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences, an entity operating within the system of higher education and science. The study explores the Academy’s origins, its legal form and role it plays within the system of higher education and science, and its rights and obligations under the law. The findings presented in the paper allow for drawing conclusions on the legal status of the Academy, in particular recognising that it is a legal person functioning in the legal form of a (registered) association, and at the same time an organisation directly included by the legislator in the category of entities of the system of higher education and science. The study indicates the reasons justifying the Academy’s inclusion in the catalogue of entities of this system, primarily its exceptional achievements in the field of scientific activities and popularising their results, as well as the universality of undertaken activities, tradition and reputation within the scientific community.

The paper looks at the selected issues related to the Polish migrants in Iceland. Since the beginning of the 21st century, the number of the Polish migrants there grew nearly tenfold and exceeded 17,000 in 2018. As a result, Poles are the most numerous national minority in Iceland. The author discusses demographics, including size of the community and its distribution, migration patterns, occupational careers and position in the labour market, integration and activities of Polish associations, both formal and informal ones.

Part 1: Universities Run by non-Catholic Churches and Religious Associations.” Part 2 explores the legal and extralegal sources governing the operation of Catholic church universities in Poland. Additionally, it proposes a systematic categorization of these higher education institutions, providing descriptions and highlighting differences in their legal statuses. The “Summary” at the end of this text encompasses both the analyses presented in Part 1 and Part 2.

Związki między cultores deorum a ich patronami wydają się spełniać wszystkie kryteria klasycznej definicji rzymskiego patronatu przedstawionej przez A. Wallace-Hadrilla. Po pierwsze, nie ma wątpliwości, że istniała „wzajemna wymiana towarów i usług” między patronem a stowarzyszeniem. Wymiana ta miała miejsce na wielu poziomach, zaś aspekt ekonomiczny niekoniecznie był najważniejszy. Po drugie, wymiana była niesymetryczna i ciągła. W zamian za materialne i niematerialne wsparcie stowarzyszenia obdarowywały patronów zaszczytami, co umacniało ich społeczny prestiż, równocześnie kreując pozytywny wizerunek samych stowarzyszeń. Obie strony starały się nadać swym relacjom stały, sformalizowany i publiczny charakter. Ślady tych prób są widoczne nie tylko w dobrze udokumentowanym zwyczaju ujawniania tabulae patronatus w siedzibie stowarzyszenia oraz w domu patrona. Patron często zamieszczał informację na temat korporacyjnego patronatu w cursus honorum, zaś stowarzyszenia mogły uhonorować urodziny swego patrona jedną z oficjalnych uroczystości korporacyjnych. W ten sposób relacje między patronem a stowarzyszeniem nabierały cech, które wyraźnie odróżniały je od aktów energetyzmu, nie wspominając już o regularnych transakcjach ekonomicznych. Zamożny, szczodry i, co najważniejsze, wpływowy patron był nie tylko pożądanym symbolem prestiżu dla każdej korporacji, lecz także gwarancją efektywnego funkcjonowania organizacji, która mogła polegać na jego/jej wsparciu nie tylko w czasie codziennych działań, lecz także w sytuacjach kryzysowych. Stowarzyszenia religijne musiały pogodzić się z homines novi lokalnych elit. Patron cultores Herculis w Interamna Nahars, T. Flavius T.f. Isidorus, który wyraźnie dumnie podkreśla awans na ordo equester, będący szczytem jego miejskiej kariery, jest wspaniałym przykładem tego zjawiska. Co ciekawe, cultores deorum, szukając patronów dla swych stowarzyszeń, wyraźnie usiłowali znaleźć ingenui. Chociaż wśród patronów stowarzyszeń religijnych było trochę liberti, są to rzadkie przypadki. Bogaci wyzwoleńcy bywali dobroczyńcami stowarzyszeń, ale patronat ten nie był stały. Jest to zrozumiałe, zważywszy na fakt, iż jednym z głównych zadań patrona było reprezentowanie stowarzyszenia w kontaktach z lokalnymi władzami.

The relationships between the cultores deorum and their patrons seem to meet all the criteria of the classic definition of Roman patronage put forward by A. Wallace-Hadrill. Firstly, there is no doubt that there was a ‘reciprocal exchange of goods and services’ between the patron and the college. The exchange took place on many levels, and the economic aspect was not necessarily the most important one. Secondly, the exchange was asymmetrical and permanent. In exchange for material and non-material support, colleges bestowed honours on their patrons, which strengthened the social prestige of the latter, at the same time creating a positive image of the colleges themselves. Both sides tried to give their relationship a permanent, formalised, and public character. Traces of these attempts are left not only in the well-documented custom of displaying tabulae patronatus in the collegial seat and the patron’s house. The patron frequently included information about the corporate patronage in his cursus honorum, whereas colleges could honour their patron’s birthday with one of the official corporate celebrations. In this way, the relationships between the patron and the college took on features which clearly differentiated them from acts of euergetism, not to mention regular economic transactions. A wealthy, generous, and most importantly influential patron was not only a desirable symbol of prestige for every corporation, but also a guarantee of the efficient functioning of the organisation that could rely on his or her support not only in its daily activity but also in crisis situations. Religious associations had to reconcile themselves to the homines novi of the local elites. The patron of the cultores Herculis in Interamna Nahars, T. Flavius T.f. Isidorus, who evidently proudly emphasises his promotion to the ordo equester, which was the pinnacle of his municipal career, is an excellent example of this phenomenon. Interestingly, the cultores deorum looking for patrons for their associations clearly tried to find ingenui. Although patrons of religious colleges include some liberti, these are rare cases. Wealthy freedmen are usually benefactors of colleges, but the latter did not attach themselves in a permanent way by means of the institution of patronage. This is understandable considering the fact that one of the main tasks of a patron was to represent the college in its contacts with the local authorities. The servile background of the patron lowered not only the college’s prestige but also its chances of successfully defending its interests. The cultores deorum were certainly aware of the mechanisms operating in the public life of the community in which they lived. An analysis of how the institution of patronage functioned in religious associations reveals evidence that their members not only knew the traditional system of values, but also completely identified themselves with this system.

The Cieszyn Beds (Jurassic/Cretaceous) in the Flysch Carpathians (Southern Poland) contain limestones, which create favourable conditions enabling the preservation of the Holocene mollusc shells in the overlying soils. The malacofauna found at the Tul Hill in the soil underlain by the limestones, and containig their fragments, confirms the conditions enabling migration of the species between the regions located south of the Carpathian range and the lowlands to the north. The dominating species are represented by the mollusc associations living in the woodlands. This study reports the presence of a unique species Orcula doliolum (Brug.) in the Tuł Hill area. Detailed biometric measurements on the shells of this species show no variation by comparison with similar studies conducted by previous authors at other isolated localities throughout Europe.

The article is about the memories of Prof. Olga Czerniawska who is a recognized humanist, educator, and professor of andragogy and gerontology. Professor Olga Czerniawska was a long-standing university teacher, as well as the professor at the University of Lodz. After the retirement she was also the professor at the Academy of Humanities and Economics in Lodz. In her memories, professor Czerniawska goes back to her school and student years. She especially kept in mind the period of her activities related to associations and her first professional work. From narration of Professor Olga Czerniawska we learn about crucial moments in her life as well as the people whom she has met on her academic and personal path.
Artykuł przedstawia wspomnienia Profesor Olgi Czerniawskiej, wielkiej humanistki, pedagoga, profesor zwyczajnej andragogiki i gerontologii. Profesor Olga Czerniawska była wieloletnim nauczycielem akademickim, profesorem zwyczajnym na Uniwersytetu Łódzkim, a po przejściu na emeryturę Akademii Humanistyczno-Ekonomicznej w Łodzi. W swoich wspomnieniach wraca Pani Profesor do lat szkolnych i studenckich. Szczególnie zachowała w pamięci okres działalności w stowarzyszeniach i pierwszej pracy. Z narracji Profesor Czerniawskiej dowiadujemy się o znaczących momentach w jej życiu oraz osobach, które spotkała na swoje drodze naukowej i osobistej.
