- The nineteenth century is the time of the implementation of the classical grammarschool. Its program was arrange so that high school graduates could become Latin fluentlyin speech and writing. During this time were published numerous textbooks and dictionariesfor school use. Among them The Polish-Latin Dictionary by Antoni Bielikowicz.Nowadays dictionary has forgotten, although considered to be the best of Polish-Latindictionaries (it contains the most extensive number of passwords, has a clear structure andrich exemplification). The purpose of this paper is an attempt to the general characteristicsof this dictionary and answer questions: 1) which passwords contains this dictionary;what is the principle of selection passwords; what picture of the world emerges from thisdictionary – what can say the person who will use this dictionary?; 2) if this dictionarycan be an important source of research on Polish lexicon of nineteenth century? The lexicalbackdrop, which will be the basis for analysis, were made a The Polish LanguageDictionary by Samuel Linde and The Vilnius Dictionary.
