Opis:
The author aims at presenting mercy in the letters of St. Paul in the aspect of the enriching relation of God towards man. He analyses the most representative texts, containing the semantic base: ἔλεος–ἐλεέω and οἰκτιρμός–οἰκτίρω. He takes the personal experience of God’s mercy in the apostle’s life as the starting point. Then, he attempts to deduce how it has influenced the development of the doctrine of mercy and how it has reflected in the practice of the Christian life. Finally, he enquires about the maturity of the Pauline doctrine of God’s mercy.
Autor stawia sobie za cel prezentację miłosierdzia w listach św. Pawła w aspekcie ubogacającej relacji Boga do człowieka. Poddaje analizie najbardziej reprezentatywne teksty, które zawierają bazę semantyczną: ἔλεος–ἐλεέω i οἰκτιρμός–οἰκτίρω.

Opis:
The paper uses a set of international data to analyze the impact of countries’ resource abundance on their long-term economic growth. In particular, the author focuses on explaining the essence of what is known as the "resource curse". He uses two groups of determinants, geographical and institutional. The paper begins with a look at the gist of the problem, with the author discussing the rationale behind the research. This is followed by a discussion of other research reports on the subject and a short description of other authors’ findings. In the next part of the paper, Kożuchowski describes his own research method and the set of variables that he uses for his OLS-regression model. The parameters are estimated with the use of geographical and institutional variables, separately for each group, and the final versions of the models are selected on the basis of a set of reliable statistical tests, Kożuchowski says. The author makes several assumptions about "the resource curse". His research shows that key factors of growth include economic openness and political stability, while most geographical factors are not statistically or intuitively significant, Kożuchowski says. The author emphasizes the role of soft data for that kind of research. The results show that such variables adequately reflect the institutional position of countries, Kożuchowski concludes.

Based on a three-year field experiment under controlled condition in Ji’nan, China, the effects of peanut growth on the variation in the abundance and community structure of ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB) and archaea (AOA) before and after peanut growth were investigated through quantitative PCR and cluster analysis of terminal-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Our results show that the community composition of AOA and AOB was greatly affected by the peanut growth leading to the decreased abundance of AOA and increased abundance of AOB. Furthermore, AOA and AOB community structures varied before and after peanut growth. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that all AOA and AOB community sequences were clustered into the uncultured group. Altogether, the results suggested that the abundance of AOA and AOB in soil and their community compositions can be greatly affected by the peanut growth.

Study on the distribution and abundance of kob (Kobus kob) in Borgu Sector Kainji Lake National Park was carried out. The studies was undertaken to derive information on the abundance of kob in Kainji Lake National Park and also determine the distribution of kob, in the area. The methodology employed in the study includes the use of direct method of census. Line transects was established using a stratified random sampling procedure. The data collected were analyzed using the formula - Total Population Ý = R·Z and the program DISTANCE. The result gathered revealed that each of these habitats contains ample number of kob throughout the year. The total estimated population of kobs censured in all the unit area = 9432 kobs /3970.02 km2, while the mean estimated population density is 0.09 ± 0.05 per km2, and the mean estimated population was 392 ± 210.11. There is therefore a 95% certainty that the true population size lies between 109.78 and 107.15 confidence limit. There is a high significant different at (P < 0.05) between the habitat types on kob abundance between the various habitat types in KLNP. The distribution of the kobs indicates that they are clumped in distribution, having an average cluster size of 14.617 in wet season and 18.067 in the dry season,. In a nut shell if the kobs herd is maintained in the reserve. Eco-tourism based on kobs watching to yield economic benefit to Kainji Lake National Park, Niger state and the Nation at large will be achieved. Therefore there should be extended mentoring programme to all the sectors of the park. This will go a long way to check illegal activities such as over grazing, poaching and tree logging that is affecting kobs population in Kainji Lake National Park.

Sea urchin is one of the key biota of coral reef stability. Research on the abundance and distribution of urchins was carried out from January-August 2019 and field data retrieval occurred in March 2019 on Latondu Island, Taka Bonerate. This study aims to determine the relationship between sea urchin abundance with coral reef conditions and sea urchin distribution patterns in the waters of Latondu Island, Taka Bonerate. Observation of coral reefs and sea urchins was carried out at 3 stations with different criteria of coral reef conditions. Retrieval of coral reef data was done using the Point Intercept Transect (PIT) method, while sea urchin observation came about via a transect belt method. The results showed that in the waters of the island of Latondu, there were 133 sea urchins from 7 species of the Echinoidea class, namely Diadema setosum, Diadema antillarum, Echinometra mathaei, Echinotrix calamaris, Mespillia globulus, Heterocentrotus mammillatus and Echinotrix diadema. The largest abundance of sea urchins was found in Station 3 on the southern part of Latondu Island with 12 ind / 50m2, while Station 1 in the northeast and Station 2 in the northwest part showed 5 ind / 50m2. Sea urchin distribution at Station 1 with a value of 0.79 was uniform, Station 2 with a value of 0.80 was also uniform and Station 3 with a value of 0.91 was uniform as well. The relationship between Sea urchin and coral reef was 0.56, which meant the relationship was moderate and directly proportional.

Deadwood is an important functional and structural component of forest ecosystems since it regulates nutrient cycling, serves as a carbon (C) pool, increases the C content in the soil, and is a source of resources, including water, for a wide range of saproxylic and non-saproxylic organisms. The abundance and diversity of wood-inhabiting fungi in six fallen, horizontally lying logs of Quercus petraea, in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd decay classes, in the Drawa National Park in Poland in 2015, were studied using the Illumina se- quencing technique. The total number of OTUs obtained (264 307) included sequences of culturable fungi (242 369 = 91.70%) and non-culturable fungi (7 056 = 2.66%). The dead oak wood was colonized by 277 taxa. Culturable fungi of Zygomycota, Ascomycota and Basidiomycota comprised 75% of taxa detected and were represented by 14, 139 and 53 taxa respectively. Non-culturable organisms were represented by 70 taxa. Fungi were classified into 18 groups: (i) typical soft rot fungi, (ii) phytopathogens potentially hazard- ous to trees, (iii) epiphytes and endophytes or weak, opportunistic pathogens, (iv) ectomycorrhizal species, (v) ericoid mycorrhizal species, (vi) crust fungi, (vii) resupinate basidiomycetes, (viii) saprotrophs and soil fungi, (ix) opportunistic human pathogens causing superficial or systemic mycoses, (x) pathogens of warm- or cold-blooded animals, (xi) ascomycetous yeasts, (xii) basidiomycetous yeasts, (xiii) antagonists of fungi, (xiv) producers of metabolites effective against pathogens, (xv) hyperparasites, (xvi) lichen-form- ing species, (xvii) partners of other fungi, (xviii) species rare or uncommon in nature. It was shown that: (i) coarse, woody debris of oak is host to abundant and diverse mycobiota, (ii) abundance and diversity of fungi increase with the decay continuum, (iii) oak logs can be a habitat of phytopathogens potentially haz- ardous to forest health, (iv) different phytopathogens favour wood in different decay classes, (v) abundance of pathogens decreases, and of ericoid mycorrhizal (or soil) species increases with the decay continuum. Maintaining different types of deadwood increases fungal diversity, but also the risk of diseases.

Opis:
The aim of this paper is to determine the current biological state of life in the pelagic zone of the Gulf of Gdańsk in relation to the planned start-up of an underwater outfall which will discharge sewage from the Gdańsk–Wschód (Gdańsk–East) sewage treatment plant. The plankton material was collected during two research cruises in July and October 1998. The samples were taken at 15 stations in four profiles located near Wyspa Sobieszewska (Sobieszewo Island), perpendicular to the coastline. Both the taxonomic and numerical structure of phytoplankton and zooplankton were typical of the coastal area of the Gulf of Gdańsk. The species diversity depends on hydrological conditions, mainly input from the River Wisła (Vistula). The abundance and biomass of phytoplankton in 1998 were several times lower than in 1994 and 1995 in the area off Górki Wschodnie, the profile located closest to the planned construction site. This could have been caused by generally lower temperatures in 1998 in comparison to previous years. In the investigated area only traces of algal eutrophication indicator species were noted. However, potentially toxic species were confirmed and were most abundant near the Wisła mouth. The highest concentrations of pelagic fauna occur in the shallowest area closest to the shoreline. Long-term observations of the dynamics of the variations in abundance and species composition indicate the increasing significance of one particular species – Acartia bifilosa.

Over recent decades, the Arctic region has been subjected to rapid climate change stemming from global warming. The advance of Atlantic waters to high latitudes is notable. The increased abundance of fish, such as cod (Gadus morhua) and haddock (Melanogrammus aeglefinus), has been reported near the western coast of Spitsbergen and entering fjords together with Atlantic waters. This study used multifrequency acoustics to measure fish distribution and abundance in 2013–2014 in two Arctic fjords, the colder Hornsund, which is typically of Arctic character, and the warmer Kongsfjorden, which is more of Atlantic character. The study revealed a bimodal fish size distribution with larger fish in the deep parts of fjords, and smaller fish distributed in more shallow waters. An evident increase in the abundance of large fish, most probably Atlantic cod, was observed in Hornsund and especially in Kongsfjorden in 2014 in comparison to 2013. The intense inflow of Atlantic water on the shelf in 2014 is suggested as the explanation for this phenomenon.

This study investigated insect pest infestation of maize, millet, sorghum, rice and wheat grains traded in the three main markets namely Monday, Baga-Road and Custom-Park markets in Maiduguri, Borno state, Nigeria. Sampling lasted from January to June 2012. Samples per grain type, each weighing one kilogram, were obtained every two weeks from ten randomly selected traders per market. Each sample was sieved in the laboratory to recover all adult insects present, both at sampling and also after one month stay (laid out in a completely randomized design). In each market, Sitophilus zeamais Motschulsky and Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) followed by Tribolium castaneum Herbst, Sitophilus oryzae (Linnaeus), Trogoderma granarium (Everts) or Cryptolestes sp. were the insect pests commonly found attacking more (between two to five) grain types. Observed highest and lowest mean insect numbers were respectively by S. zeamais in maize grains (12.13 individuals in Monday market) and T. granarium in wheat grains (0.13 individuals in Baga-Road market). Results unveil that among three markets, higher mean total numbers of insects were present in maize, rice or wheat (18-33). For all grain types, the mean numbers of damaged grains were significantly higher in Monday (53-357) and Custom-Park (46-302) than in Baga-Road (17-109) markets. Furthermore, the mean total number of damaged grains across markets was significantly higher maize, followed by rice and wheat (55-231) than in other grain types (37-41). The implications of all these results on insect infestation of different cereal grain types sold in these markets are discussed.
