Opis:
Precise Point Positioning (PPP) is a technique used to determine high accuracy position with a single GNSS receiver. May be an alternative solution to differential measurements, where maintaining a connection with a single Real Time Kinematic (RTK) station or a regional Real Time Network (RTN) of reference stations is necessary. This situation is especially common in areas with poorly developed infrastructure of ground stations. This paper presents the results of a comparative analysis of accuracy of absolute determination of position from observations which last between 0,5 to 6 hours with the use of four permanent free online web services which execute calculations with PPP technique such as: Automatic Precise Positioning Service (APPS), Canadian Spatial Reference System Precise Point Positioning (CSRS-PPP), GNSS Analysis and Positioning Software (GAPS) and magicPPP - Precise Point Positioning Solution (magicGNSS). For each point of test network, calculations were made using solely GPS observations and taking into account Final products. An evaluation of the impact on the accuracy of simultaneous positioning of three points test network on the change of the horizontal distance and the relative height difference between measured triangle vertices was also conducted.

Opis:
This study investigated EFL learners’ perspectives about their vocabulary learning experiences via a smartphone application. An online demographic questionnaire was used for recruiting 50 EFL learners from a language teaching channel in Telegram messenger required to use a smartphone application called Vocabulary Flashcards 2016 for a month. After finishing the sampling procedure, the participants were asked to take part in Dialang online diagnostic test to specify their vocabulary level proficiency based on CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). The quantitative and qualitative data were collected utilizing evaluation questionnaires and semi-structured interviews respectively. The evaluation questionnaire adapted from Chapelle’s (2001) evaluation criterion was used to evaluate the application from the users’ perspectives. This study investigated the effects of learners’ proficiency level and gender differences on using the application, and their perspectives on the negative and positive aspects of the application were also uncovered. The findings showed that the users held positive attitudes towards the application because it influenced their learning positively and provided them with both form and meaning-focused instruction, but they were dissatisfied with the app’s levels and authenticity. Results of independent t-test and ANOVA respectively showed that gender and vocabulary proficiency level did not make significant difference on participants’ app usage patterns. The findings of this study highlighted the users’ localized needs which could be used as guidelines for customized vocabulary apps’ development purposes. The study’s implications for learners, teachers, and app developers are discussed in detail.

Opis:
This analysis aims to describe the main features of hypermedia literary apps for children by considering a corpus of adaptations of classic and contemporary picturebooks. In particular, it highlights the multimodal nature that defines hypermedia texts and their meanings, as well as the interactivity that programs different degrees of readers’ involvement and the various ways of using and exploring the virtual space of touchscreens. By describing some hypermedia features deployed in a selection of classic texts, I focus on the hypermedia adaptations of three contemporary Italian picturebooks: Iole, la balena mangiaparole by Gioia Marchegiani, Amico ragnolo by gloria francella, and Love, the App by Alberto Vanni. These were chosen to illustrate the significant literary use of several textual materials, the implementation of different types of interactivity, and the recreation of the material characteristics of the print edition through the virtual page. Founded on the appropriation and re-interpretation of the source, the adaptations considered here show a mix of literary intents and digital technologies, while highlighting the substantial homogeneity of the hypermedia strategies used in adapting classic and contemporary texts.

The travel and tourism industry is one of the largest and fastest-growing sectors in the world. In the case of countries like Georgia, where tourism is a priority sector of the economy, innovation is crucial for a tourism-based development strategy — and this has become particularly important in the post-pandemic realities. This paper proposes a certain framework for understanding the possibilities for harnessing technological innovations in the travel industry (particularly apps and websites). It then considers the specific example of the country of Georgia, outlining the state's measures meant to foster IT innovation in tourism and also certain moderate successes to date in this respect. Next, the paper looks to Russian tourist-sector start-ups as models for operation that be successfully harnessed in the Georgian tourism industry, examining several such Russian start-ups in closer detail.

This article focuses on the mobile app called “Google Opinion Rewards” (GOR), which is used as a data collection tool in market research and academic research. Developed by Google Surveys, GOR deals with voluntary participation of app users in data sharing in return for rewards. In this context, a test account was created in the GOR app to analyze the surveys, the app sent to the account for a period of three years. In-depth interviews were conducted with 12 participants from the USA, the UK and Turkey to gain comprehensive knowledge about the app ecosystem. The aim of the interviews was to understand the motivations of GOR users for using the app, and explore the counter-surveillance strategies users have developed to avoid surveillance. The findings indicate that most GOR users share their information recklessly even if they have security concerns and that users who are actively involved in surveillance, knowingly or unknowingly, and who want to maximise their income develop masking strategies against surveillance.

A 2-year longitudinal study examined how dating app use (N = 82, 36 women) affects changes in personality (i.e., the Dark Triad and Big Five traits), and visual social media use (i.e., dating apps, Instagram). Dating app users were higher in narcissism and Machiavellianism after two years but not in the Big Five traits. Early time and sessions on dating apps were associated with more sessions on dating apps, more time on Instagram, and higher narcissism later. Men increased in narcissism, women decreased in extraversion, openness, conscientiousness, and increased in agreeableness. The use of dating apps affects personality into an antagonistic direction, especially women.

The purpose of this paper is to examine how effective mobile devices are in the process of teaching and learning English through the perspective of university students. The research is aimed at finding out whether using mobile apps for learning purposes, in particular, for learning English is of interest for students and look at potential ways of learning the language. It also aims at exploring potential of educational applications downloaded to students’ mobile phones in terms of their integration into the classroom activities at university for the purposes of learning English. To fully conceptualize the research in mobile teaching and learning, the authors addressed the mentioned problem by using Google Forms. An online questionnaire was created and sent to students with responses collected in an online spreadsheet and was further analyzed by the authors. 102 representatives from 16 countries who study at 4 universities located in Poland and Ukraine took part in the survey. To link the reported mobile device use obtained from the questionnaire and its actual use for language learning the follow-up interviews for the subset of students were conducted with the relevant conclusions drawn. The issue of using mobile devices in the process of university study as an educational tool was investigated and proposed to potentially expand perceptions of tutorial experience of how we view teaching and learning English.

Opis:
As the end of the album format is apparently drawing near due to the radical change in music consumption habits motivated by streaming services, artists and genres interested in creating musical works with meanings broader than those of single songs find themselves in a situation worth analysing. Despite all appearances and expectations, I argue that nowadays artists willing to create narrative, thematic or generally conceptual contexts for their songs are living in a potential second golden age of concept albums. Some attempts at keeping the (concept) album alive are more alike to an act of resistance, others creatively take advantage of the same means of communication used by their digital enemy, in order to create something unique and capable of taking the place of the supposedly doomed CD/lP format. They are often transmedial works, thus requiring an interdisciplinary analysis. In this paper, I offer an overview of the contemporary situation of the album format (and concept album more specifically) and finally propose a classification of four forms of contemporary musical world-building strategies, starting from a selection of emblematic case studies.

Opis:
For the past decade or so, internet radio, podcasts, mobile sound apps, and digital libraries of audio content have enjoyed increasing popularity among researchers and receivers of culture. Radio, similarly to other traditional media, often experiments with the opportunities offered by the new media technologies enabling the emergence of new communicational practices. As a starting point, I consider the contemporary audiosphere, which constitutes the auditory part of the audio-visual culture, and the influence of technological changes on radio communications, artists, and receivers. I attempt to answer the question, what happens at genre fringes? What are the characteristic features of the emerging forms? How, when one is faced with new technology, the multimedia world, and virtual reality, can one reach a reflection on the fiction and non-fiction genres on the radio? The expansive character of new technologies is often the source of inspiration for that which is traditional, thus renewing the object of its study. The inclusion of new phenomena within the widely understood auditoriness has a rescuing nature for traditional forms, and, at the same time, offers new opportunities for creators, and thus an area of research for literary scientists, media scientists and literary critics.

The current systems supporting navigation on board of ships are built on the classic concept for equipment: the system is developed, tested, type approved and installed; and from that time on it is used with no or little modifications. The systems are using data, but the data streams do not influence the system behavior. Looking at other industries, a regime of software and system maintenance has been established which allows more rapid updates. System development in the IT arena is moving towards a more modular approach, encapsulating individual components to ease the implementation and delivery of updates with a limited system-wide impact. This key concept is lately often referred to as the “app-concept”. In addition, more and more systems are using data to adjust system behavior to support a situational centric approach for decision support. The e-Navigation development asks for exactly that: a way to improve innovation, while ensuring system stability for the navigational components used by the navigator on the bridge, and a concept to increase situational awareness. A key aspect of the success of new systems will be the ability to convert data into information as needed in any given situation, creating the necessary knowledge for intelligent decision making and increasing the competence of a navigator. The paper will focus on the following topics: the classic monolithic equipment paradigm; modern system architecture, using components and app-concepts; advantages of using data streams to enable situational driven tool enhancements; and the app-concepts supporting the situational centric information presentation.

In this article, the author, who was a member of the Erasmus+ Count Me In Too project, endeavors to demonstrate that the assistive technology developed within the project provides effective context-aware assistance for people with learning difficulties, for whom the project was aimed. She discusses in detail the intuitive app generator created by eLearning Studios (Coventry, Great Britain), 2 (of 11) training apps designed by Teatr Grodzki (Bielsko-Biala, Poland), and the e-learning modules supplementing the apps, with theoretical foundation laid by Eldeberry AB (Hägersten, Sweden). The author shows how personalized IT tools facilitate education and improve job performance of people with disabilities, thus helping them achieve personal and professional success. The partners were, among others, motivated by the fact that European societies and job markets are gradually becoming more inclusive towards people with disabilities. The tools were successfully tested with over 300 learners in Denmark, Hungary, and Poland, and assessed by the project partners and vocational education and training specialists. The research proved that the tools, translated into national languages and forming a bank of educational resources to be followed or adapted by interested users, may inspire teachers, managers, and supervisors, and facilitate vocational training and other types of e-learning.
