Opis:
From the macroeconomic point of view, the stock index is the best indicator of the behavior of the stock market. Stock indices fulfill different functions. One of their most important functions is to observe developments of the stock market situation. Therefore, it is crucial to describe the long-term development of indices and also to find moments of abrupt changes. Another interesting aspect is to find those indices that have evolved in a similar way over time. In this article, using trend analysis, we will uncover the global evolution of selected indices. After evaluating the global trend in the series we compare the results with local trend analysis. Other goal is to detect the moments in which this development suddenly changed using the change-point analysis. By means of cluster analysis, we find those indices that are most similar in long-term development. In each analysis, we select the most appropriate methods and compare their results.

Opis:
The Malacca River basin experienced river water pollution which caused a major deterioration to the ecosystems and environmental health. This study is carried out to assess the water quality data and identify the pattern of water pollution sources in the study area, and also to develop a predictive performance of water quality in the Malacca River basin. A chemometric approach using a combination of HCA, DA, PCA, and MLR, was applied into twenty water quality variables from nine sampling stations that were collected from January until December of 2015 in the river basin. HCA pointed out three clusters, namely Cluster 1 (C1) with low pollution source, Cluster 2 (C2) with moderate pollution source, and Cluster 3 (C3) with high pollution source. In the DA analysis, the results showed 21 variables, 12 variables, and 9 variables for standard mode, forward stepwise mode, and backward stepwise mode, respectively. Meanwhile, the PCA indicated that the main source of pollutants is detected from residential, industrial, commercial, agricultural, animal livestock, as well as forest land. Among the three models developed from MLR analysis, C3 with a high pollution source is detected to be the most suitable model to be used for the prediction of Water Quality Index in the Malacca River basin. This study proposed for an effective river water quality management by having new water quality monitoring network to be designed for more practical use in order to reduce time and effort, as well as cost saving purposes.

Marine information is an important way for us to know and study more about the ocean. Marine data makes the basic of marine information. Because of the huge quantity and diversity of marine data, and at the same time marine data is polyatomic variable, we start with statistical analysis methods to search for the regularity of the marine data. On one hand, we get the aggregate variation functions of the marine data by factor analyzing in aspect of the spatiality. Then we visually describe the marine status of the studied sea area with pre variogram function and post variogram function. On the other hand, we used cluster analysis method to get the verifying rule in time and make visible graphs of the marine data. In this way, we can also supply with the suggestions in classifying the sea seawater quality. The data processing result shows that the suggested methods in this article are both operable and effective. At the same time some reasonable suggestions are given in the article.

Opis:
The essay presents the attempt to examine selected macroeconomic risk factors of portfolio Investments in Polish capital market as well as to build investment portfolios sensitive to particular risk profiles. With this objective in view, quoted companies at WSE were classified in accordance lo selected macroeconomic risk factor, applying the multidimensional statistic analysis. On the basis of the classification the shares portfolios of different risk profiles were built. The principal components analysis was applied to specify the main macroeconomic risk factors. Next, for all assets individually multifactor regression models were built to describe relations between the return rates of the assets and the macroeconomic risk factors. As a result of the regression analysis the sensitivity risk measures were received. The clustering analysis was applied in order to classify the assets in accordance to the sensitivity risk measures. The result of classification was used to build the portfolios that are sensitive to specific of macroeconomic risks. Finally the influence of the specific macroeconomic risks on total investment risk was examined.
Do specyfikacji ryzyka wykorzystano analizę głównych składowych. Wyznaczone składowe główne potraktowano jako czynniki ryzyka makroekonomicznego. Następnie oszacowano funkcje regresji opisujące stopy zwrotu akcji z wyznaczonymi czynnikami ryzyka. W wyniku analizy n presji otrzymano miary ryzyka wrażliwości stóp zwrotu spółek na poszczególne czynniki ryzyka makroekonomicznego. Następnie wykorzystano analizę skupień i dokonano klasyfikacji spółek ze względu na wyznaczone miary wrażliwości. Na podstawie wyników klasyfikacji zbudowano portfele akcji o określonych profilach makroekonomicznego ryzyka a następnie przeprowadzono analizę dywersyfikacji ryzyka portfeli. Ostatecznie zbadano wpływ poszczególnych czynników ryzyka na całkowite ryzyko inwestycji.

The vibration analysis is the study of the behaviour and dynamic properties of mechanical structures under actuation by harmonic vibration forces. The aim of resonance tests of the structures is the experimental delimitation of frequencies and the modes of resonance vibrations. vibration analysis, or more precisely experimental vibration analysis, is the field of measuring and analyzing the dynamic response of mechanical structures when excited by a mechanical input. The broadly applied method of research relies on the harmonic actuation of vibrations and the measurement of respective parameters. Examples would include measuring the vibration of an aircraft load bearing structure when it is attached to an electromagnetic force actuator. Current vibration testing systems are composed of actuators set with their control and powering circuits, the vibration measurement transducers (typically accelerometers), an analog-to-digital converter to digitize analog instrumentation signals) and a system host computer to analyze the data and view it. The result of researcher own accumulated experiences and those experiences knownfrom the literature create the possibility for design o f a stochastic frame model describing, what type of resonances are possible to expect in the given or other type of structure. The cases submitted below became perceived and tested in the course of research of several aircraft, glider and helicopter designs in the Resonance Tests Program of the Institute of Aviation

Opis:
Modern analytical techniques are expected to fulfil high requirements in terms of both the quality of the obtained analytical results as well as caring for the environment. The methods should be developed in accordance with the rules of so-called Green Analytical Chemistry. Flow analysis techniques meet these assumptions. Their rapid development, especially in terms of instrumental solutions has been observed in recent years. Instrumental solutions employed in the flow analysis techniques allow for shortening the time of analyses, minimization of samples and reagents consumption as well as waste production, reduction of the costs of analyses and the risk of exposure of laboratory personnel on toxic substances. Their use, in many cases, has also a beneficial effect on improving the precision and accuracy of the analytical determinations. The article presents selected instrumental solutions used in various flow analysis techniques. Flow analysis techniques can be divided, inter alia, according to: the way of sample introduction into a flow system (continuous or intermittent sampling), the type of the liquid stream (segmented (with gas) or unsegmented flow) as well as the applied elements of instrumental system. In analytical practice, the techniques of flow injection analysis and sequential injection analysis are used most often. Due to constructional reasons, the use of systems containing valves of the type: Lab-on valve and various instrumental solutions of multicommutated techniques: multicommutated flow injection analysis, multi-syringe flow injection analysis and multi-pumping flow systems deserves special attention.

The article presents the evolution of the idea of approach to conducting strategic analysis of the state’s environment, used to assess its functioning in the existing and forecasted conditions, which can also be used in the analysis conducted at lower levels of administration. The author presents one of the methods of strategic analysis used in the process of strategic planning in the field of national security. This method can also be successfully used when designing a defence strategy or police development strategy, as it precedes the process of formulating objectives and action concepts. According to the author, the advantages of the proposed method called cluster analysis are its universality, transparency and simplicity of application. The proposed method was preceded by reflections on the issues of strategic analysis related to the current practice of strategic planning in Poland, as well as similar to the presented taxonomic method, to finally focus the reader’s attention on cluster analysis, a mathematical method of data grouping, which can be a proposal to conduct strategic analysis at the level of the state and its institutions.

The article aims to look for a way to geographically delineate the notion of target culture in the language textbook “The World We Live in” by Ogasawara et al. (2013) published in Japan for Japanese students and teachers. Looking at the textbooks as cultural artefacts, we identified geographical space within the scope of the sample textbook and analysed the pedagogical context the place names appeared in. By doing that we attempt to find the spatial bias of the book, which is a manifestation of values there inscribed, often called the “hidden curriculum”. The elaborated method, following a seminal study by Risager (2018), is an attempt to adapt the proposed content analysis of the textbooks into GIS tools in order to capture the geographic dimension of the content. The method serves as a stepping stone towards the creation of a model to analyse and identify the attitudes toward the cultural content of educational materials. This will not only enable a more authentic classroom experience responding to the needs of particular groups of students and teachers but also look for ways to make the textbooks more inclusive.

Opis:
In our paper, the results concerning the research devoted to wine consumers’ preferences, obtained with the use of method called the conjoint analysis, are presented. The basis for measurements of such the preferences is the utility function that enables to assign numerical characteristics to each of available variates. The conjoint analysis is a survey-based multivariate statistical technique where respondent has different objects at the disposal, each of which is determined by the chosen set of relevant attributes, taking the given values (levels), in order to give some information about the total preferences regarding these objects. The objective of our work is to gain the knowledge about the wine consumers’ preferences and, in particular, to establish what factors are vital for them when purchasing wine. We conduct a questionnaire survey based on a sample consisting of 248 randomly chosen respondents, declaring wine consumption. The collected sample has been divided into the female and male groups, as well as into the three age categories (18–35 years, 36–55 years and 56 years or more). In our study, we have stated that the price of wine is the most decisive factor when it comes to selection of the preferred sort of wine. The wine dryness and its color turn out to be the second and the third most signifi cant factors regarding this choice, while the sort of wine and the number of awarded prizes or accolades are the least important factors for buying the specifi c kind of wine.
